graphics card is? What do you look for when choosing a graphics card? When buying a desktop or laptop to play some of the most popular video games, what graphics card specs should you look for? What CPU and system memory do you need? Is 4GB of system memory enough for Windows 7 or Windows 8? How much more would a new computer cost if you want a dedicated graphics card with 512 MB or 1 TB of ram?

Answer
A dedicated graphics card will have its own video memory and its own GPU

A 1 GB graphics card goes from $75 to $250 depending on what speed you want.

Not possible to say how much that would change the price of a new computer without knowing what computer or what price.

Laptops are not great gaming machines. You have to pay a lot for a laptop with a good discrete graphics card for gaming.

4 GB is just adequate for Win7 and Win8. 8 GB would be better, and modern RAM is cheap, you are only looking at $40 more to go to 8 GB

Can a graphics card alone improve the gaming performance on my laptop?

Tashmania

I have a really crappy laptop. It has intel 965 chipset family with Intel graphics media accelator(REALLY old i know). I've came to know that any games that came after 2009-10 don't work on my lappy, and are a lot laggy e.g. Nfs MW 2012, fifa 10, 11,12(all are demos), amnesia(demo) and a lot more. My laptop has 3gb ram. So, can graphics card alone will improve the gaming performance or is getting a new laptop is an only option.

Answer
You would have to have a laptop that has a graphics card that's replaceable, but Intel graphics chips are part of the motherboard (or the processor itself) and can't be replaced, so really your only option is to replace your laptop.

Answer
By just knowing the OS and the date I really know nothing, but I'll try.
Excellent games than can be played on middle-of-the-road or lower computers

Terraria (Available on steam)
Team Fortress 2 (Free to play on steam)
Portal/Portal 2 and Half Life 2 are fun, (though rather short) single player games.
Skyrim is incredibly fun, can be played on low graphics on most computers.

I want to buy a new gaming laptop for collage.I have this year an 1+ from high school and I am going to go in 2011-2012 in collage. I want a top gaming laptop of 3500-5500$
Will there be a new CPU, Graphic card, Ram that will be much faster then ?

Answer
This is sort of a pointless question.

Of course there will be new CPU's, new GPU's, faster and higher capacity RAM and hard drives. They are in a constant state of change, and new additions to each of those categories come out at least once a year, so you're looking at at least 2 generations better than what we have now.

But you might want to rethink your strategy, as a super powerful gaming laptop is not very portable and it's battery life will suck. And as a college student myself, you are going to want a laptop that you can take where ever you need, easily (both weight and size) and something that wont die in an hour. Come back to Yahoo Answers when you are ready to buy a gaming laptop, as any advice as to parts is pure speculation and will lead you astray.
