Why can't my laptop run Empire: Total War?

monkeysgal

Ok, I recently bought a new laptop. It's a Sony Vaio, Windows 7, 4Gig RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.1 GHz processor. I was thinking about buying Empire: Total War but wanted to check it out first, so I downloaded a demo off of Steam. The video that plays when you first run the game is very choppy and constantly blinks on and off. When I try to play, the graphics cannot be set on high, only on medium or low, also the gameplay itself runs somewhat slow and choppy, and the graphics are pretty bad.

What's the deal? I have a the standard graphics card (Mobile Intel 45 Express Chipset Family), and I don't know much about it, but I'm assuming that since the computer is pretty good, the graphics card must be halfway decent. I ran dxdiag.exe and it said it has an approximate total memory of 1759 MB, that doesn't seem that bad....

I've been able to run Counterstrike: Source, Rome: Total War, World of Warcraft, and Warcraft III: Frozen Throne on it so far without any problems. Someone please explain to me what the problem is, and if it has to do with the graphics card, please suggest a decent one which would not make games fail so epically. Thanks!

Answer
Your problem is with the integrated graphics card. Intel graphics cards are the lowest of the low in performance and there are only a handful of games that will run on them from this era. Upgrading the GPU on a laptop is not possible 99% of the time. On the other hand you could attempt to install patches for the game which are delivered through steam. Patch 1.30 improves performance for multi-core processors. There may be other patches as well.

Can I play games like WoW and Empire: Total war and counter strike on Lenovo laptop?

Akarsh

So I wanted to get a PC so I could play games like WoW, total war, counter-strike and diablo. But my dad wouldn't let me get a PC and I asked my friend and he said that I could play those on a laptop, and all I had to do to play it was just put the disk in the laptop. I'm not sure if I can so...can I or can I not?

Answer
You can if it is a windows laptop, if it is then you can play all the games you want on it.

What would be a good laptop for playing Empire: Total War?

J-dizzle

I'm pretty new to gaming on computers and i was wondering what might be a good laptop to play Empire: Total war, Napoleon total war and other games like these. I want a nice computer that can also do some basic stuff like microsoft word and such. Also, i'm looking for a low price, no more than $1,500 if at all possible.
Thank You

Answer
ok first off as a pc gamer i wouldnt recommend you getting a laptop for playing games like empire, napoleon, and other pc games. laptops are generally more expensive and are much harder to upgrade. lets just say u were to buy a laptop now and the time came when u needed to upgrade in order to play the lastest games it would cost u double to upgrade parts proccesor, graphics card, memory, etc etc and you have to find parts that will fit in ur laptop not all graphics cards and parts will fit in there. A $1,500 laptop will get u decent one thats ok but not that good for gaming. if ur looking for a laptop thats powerful ur looking at 2k at least. my pc for example is very good i got mine for $1,100 if i wanted to get the same specs on a laptop it would cost me alot more.

so i personly recommand getting a desktop instead it will be much cheaper and easier to upgrade future parts. and for a $1,500 gaming destop you will be getting a very good one.that will play any game on the market maxxed out.

good luck m8 on choosing!

What type of laptop should i get if i want to play games like Rome Total War and Empire Total War?

Luke

I would like it to be reasonably cheap(under 1000) would be nice. I will use it for other things to not just for gaming.

Does anyone know which laptop is best suited for gaming? I mean games like Empire: Total War etc......?

hitmontop

Answer
Laptops are really "iffy" when it comes to gaming. Even though Empire is not an incredibly demanding game graphically you will still need a "high end" notebook that is specifically for gaming if you want it work right for whatever game you decide to play on it. Try the link below.

Answer
system requirements:

2.4Ghz single core processor
256MB Graphics card (DX9 compatible)
1GB RAM (For XP, 2GB if using Vista)

so yes ur laptop can run the game on low-med settings but the problem is ur OS ,win 7 has some compatibility issues with some games even if u run them on win xp or vista compatibility mode .

hope that helps :)

AMD Radeon 6620G graphics card. It's in a HP laptop that I want to use for light gaming such as Stronghold 2 and Empire Total War. Is this graphics card any good? The rest of the specs on the computer are great but I don't know much about graphics cards.

Answer
The AMD Radeon 6620G is a midrange laptop graphics cards... bordering on low-midrange. It's good enough to handle strategy games like those, along with not-too-demanding titles like the Sims 3, World of Warcraft, Aion etc.

In ranks #125 overall among laptop graphics cards.
