Whats a good gaming laptop under 600?

Im looking for a laptop I could play battlefield 3 and World of warcraft.

"Good gaming laptop" and "under $600" do not belong in the same sentence.

You can barely get a good laptop for under $600 and the hardware needed to play modern games like Battlefield 3 is expensive. WOW is not graphically demanding so a cheap laptop will probably be fine, but BF3 is a completely different beast which requires a video card with dedicated memory, not the shared system memory you find in $600 laptops.

You get what you pay for, and can pay upwards of $2000 for a good gaming laptop. However, Asus 'Republic of Gaming' laptops are good, lower priced gaming laptops that start around $1100 new. Sager laptops would be my next choice and Alienware is good but bulky. Next choice would be to look for older, second-hand or refurbished laptops. But not too old because of BF3.

The things to look out for are the components - Nvidia video card with dedicated 1Gb RAM or better (660M is a good one), i7 CPU, and at minimum 4Gb system RAM, but more is better. I5 CPU will have trouble with BF3 during intense parts if you have anything other than the minimum graphics turned on, and forget anything with an i3.

Recently, my notebook had crack on the hinge and everytime i would flip it open, it would make that crack bigger...and yea it happened. I cant open the lid anymore without the hinge bending,decoloring,and stretching the screen, cant have that right? soo i went to go see how much the repairs would be worthh and they said they couldnt fix it, and since its an older model, finding the parts for it would be pricey, and considering the age of the comp, its completely outdated and would better used for parts. So i wanna get a new one, but i do alot on it so what would be best for multitasking, like videos from youtube, while playing a web game without and computer lag, i also want good graphics card for playing games for example at most, GTA 4, or COD:MW. and i wanna stay under the price of 1000$, a lil over is ok but not like another 200$. I did a bit of research myself and found the Sony Vaio, never used one, never seen one in use, never thought of buying one. so im not to confident about buying it. someone give me some ideas, and for a comp more then 1000$, i want it to last obviously. Ok, Alienware is awesome, no doubt, but i dont want something thats made to sit in one spot and every once in awhile be moved. I want something that i can carry with me all the time, and maybe if im lucky, have time to play a game or two,web games, a quick game of a Downloaded Pvp game, you know, something like that. Alienware, In the top 3 brand of computer to choose from.

Best multitasking gaming laptop that I would recommend is the Asus G73. I have had one for about a year and it has everything you need for gaming and multitasking. It is a little over your price range but you can definitely buy a refurbished one for around that price. I multitask all the time on mine and plays games on steam ALL OF THE TIME and it runs games like left 4 dead, portal, call of duty flawlessly!

It comes with 8 gigs of memory and depending on the model you get it comes with two 500 gig hard drives or two 320 gig hard drives.1920x1080p screen and a built in camera, I7 processor killer graphics card. Mines came with a ATI 5870 graphics card, but I think the newer ones come with Nvidia cards. HDMI port, and plenty usb ports

Asus warranty is good too. 1 year accidental (yes accidental) warranty and a two year hardware malfunction warranty. It also covers the charger too. This laptop/gaming rig is all you need right now and you will be very satisfied with it because I know I am and I'm a electronic junkie! Hope this helps. O yea I had a sony vaio brand new and I'm not trying to downgrade them but mines had failed me out of the box. I was upset that I had to send a 900 dollar lemon back to tigerdirect.com (which is a awesome site to look at) but I am glad I did because I added a little more money and purchased the asus g73-jh model.

For the record this is the best laptop/gaming rig for the price HANDS DOWN You will pay about a thousand dollars more for an alienware laptop with the same specs so this would be considered a steal.

Cheap Gaming Laptops?

I would like to get a laptop that can handle most games and run them smoothly, it doesn't have to be able to run them at the highest resolution but the highest would be preferable. I'm also gonna use a lot of photoshop and video editing software. My budget is around $800-$1500.

Brand buying advise

Always avoid refurbished units. They only come with a 90 day warranty and have a higher failure rate. The service contacts are normally just a one time replace contract.

You get what you pay for. Systems with high end parts with low prices are to be viewed with suspicion. They have to cut corners somewhere to get the price down. What cost you less today is going to cost you more tomorrow.

Apple makes a good quality laptop. The problem comes when it requires service or minor upgrades. It is near impossible to do anything with them. They even glue the battery and hard drive down so you can not change it. They solder the ram to the logic board so you can not increase it. They lock up most of the software so your stuck with what they approve.

Lenovo has serious stand behind their product problems. They bought IBM PC division and proceeded to drive the quality of the system into the ground. Their customer service is well below par. They even makes Dell customer service look good. Lenovo will not allow people to read instruction on how to access the BIOS menu or to get info on their puters on their web site unless you connect to them thru Facebook. They do this so they can spy on their users. The last and final thing to remember about them is they are a Chinese Government own company. It is up to you if you want to trust them.

Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony should be avoided because of their heavy modification of Windows and the drivers. If you remove some of the bloat they install, you can cripple the system.

Acer, Gateway, and eMachines should be avoided period. Low end system that are driving the race to the bottom.

Dell once made a good system and fell from grace. They are now struggling to regain their place in the market. Customer service is one of many problems with this company.

Alienware are glorified Dells and are more name than product. Priced extremely high for what you get. They do perform but you can get the same for less by looking around, just not packaged to be eye candy to the gamers.

Samsung has a history of using cheap parts in critical areas. Capacitors has been one area Samsung has a known history of going cheap, causing units to fail early. For that reason I would avoid them.

ASUS and HP do not modify Windows as bad as the other manufacturers. They have excellent build quality. They might add a lot of bloat but they also makes it easy to get rid of it.

Ultrabooks are the higher end of Wintel laptops but they have some of the same concerns as Apple. They make it next to impossible to change any hardware in them. Service of them will have to be done by the manufacturers. With most of them, you can not change your own battery or hard drive. They are designed to catch your eye but they are not any more special then other laptops except for the fact that they are slim or thin. Your paying for it being thin and slim. For the money your going to spend on it you can buy a much better laptop with more power.

Chrome books are useless. They are designed by Google to make you dependent on Google. If you can not access the web then you can not do anything.

Hybrids are the worse of the worse. The flip or detachable touch screens are just a disaster waiting to happen.

Never buy an All In One. They are far worst then laptops of any kind to service and they have a higher failure rate.

Choose wisely.

Gaming laptops are very expensive, prone to overheating, and have a terrible battery life. Most true PC gamer use desktops. For the 1000$ you could build a superior gaming desktop than to buy a gaming laptop for the equal amount.

Also, laptops are very difficult to upgrade and most people won't bother upgrading it anyways. Buying a laptop means you are locked with what you got without the chance of upgrading the hardware, by time it becomes outdated, your only choice would be to throw it away and have to buy a new laptop all together. Desktops on the other hand are future proof, when hardware becomes outdated, swap it out and put in new hardware. Sorry for not answering your question I just don't want you to make a choice you will regret afterwards.

I am going to get a laptop in about 1 year (long time but if i reasearch a lot my dad my buy it and i only pay him half)

I am into computer gaming and I need a LAPTOP so i can play my games anywhere i go (coffe shops, other places with wireless internet for online games) Normally the games I play have some pretty high req.

First things first, Mac laptops cannot game. Some of the more expensive and higher end Macbooks may have gaming-grade hardware, but they were not made for that purpose, and are usually very overpriced. So, you'll definitely want a gaming laptop running Windows.

You probably don't want to game on Vista either, as most benchmarks show that games perform better on XP. Only get Vista if you want to play DirectX 10 games, but there is nothing wrong with gaming on Vista, so the choice is yours.

hi there! i recently bought a vaio laptop with a 2.67gb of dual core cpu and 1gb of dedicated graphic memory and 4gb of ram, and i installed my favorite game, need for speed carbon! but suddenly i noticed a very warm wind from my laptop's fan... and i started to worry about its hardware, so i came here to ask you guys whether it is any harm to my laptop or not?

This is entirely a 'natural' process. You'll most likely - so long as you have the volume turned down when you are playing the game - hear a fan going off somewhere inside the laptop. The warm wind is the result of the fan dispersing the heat from your system's processor to prevent overheating. If it weren't for the fan, your CPU would overheat, and then your laptop would essentially die a death. Whilst not something to be immediately concerned about, it is advisable not to do heavy hardcore gaming on your laptop - take a break from it religiously with laptops because they don't really like that kind of thing, regardless of whether or not they're built for it; on the principal that it's always better to be safe than sorry. Typically my CPU will reach around 59 degrees before the fan kicks in to cool the CPU down to anything between 39 to 47 - the longer the fan is active, the more the heat is dispersed from the CPU and the more the CPU cools down, but it is a gradual process, so you will likely feel that warm wind from your laptop's fan for a good minute or so the hotter the CPU is. Also, it goes without saying that you should never block the vent from where the air is escaping from within the laptop. It'll mess it up no end if you do.

How difficult is it to upgrade parts in a laptop?

I have a pretty new Sony Vaio (F series). It's got decent specs, but not quite good enough to run games like Battlefield 3 on the specs I want. I've built desktops and had extensive experience with that, but never much with laptop hardware. Is it difficult, or even possible to upgrade processor and/or graphics card in a laptop?

It is possible to upgrade the processor but it's NOT possible to upgrade the graphics card. The graphics card is built in on the motherboard. The processor in some laptops is easy and in some it's hard. In most laptops it's under the keyboard.

You can upgrade the hard drive, the optical drive and add ram. You might find a useful PCMCIA card- perhaps one that has a serial port. That's about it. You will not change the CPU. Maybe there's an overclocking hack, but it will shorten the CPU life with extra heat.
