What is a current good gaming laptop for under $1,000?

Brendan Ry

I'm looking for the best gaming laptop i can get for cheap. Its ok if its a little over 1000 but im not looking to go too much higher than that. If you could post the link to the laptop i would appreciate it.

thanks

Answer
All of these laptops come with decent GPUs and decent displays at the same time.

**Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p** (NVIDIA GT 750M GDDR5, 15.6" 1920x1080 display w/ matte finish and good contrast) - **$929 tax**
- Sign up and sign in for the Barnes and Noble Gold discount: http://lenovo.com/barnesnoblegold/
- Take this model: http://shop.lenovo.com/barnesnoblegold/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y510p/?sb=:000001C9:0000ECB3: ($929 model)
-Or: http://shop.lenovo.com/barnesnoblegold/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y510p/?sb=:000001C9:0000ECB0: ($999 model w/ 24GB cache SSD)
- Avoid the cheapest model, as it comes with a 15.6" 1366x768 display. 1366x768 resolution in a 15.6" display makes things onscreen rather large, the resolution itself doesn't let you fit much onscreen, and 15.6" displays that have 1366x768 resolution are almost always low-grade LCD panels with very poor image quality due to low contrast.

What is a good gaming laptop for $900 and under (READ DESC.)?

Aanderu

I am just wondering that because the HP I wanted is no longer for sale ;(
I want a laptop with GeForce GT-GTX graphics (NONE OTHER THEN THOSE). I REALLY like GTX. I can use it for a lot of games. If you find a laptop with a better graphics card, please tell me and give me the link.

On notebookcheck, I recommend a laptop with a CLASS 1 CARD.

Is this a good gaming laptop FOR THE PRICE?

Ryan

Hey I'm looking for a cheap gaming laptop, and I've heard this one is good for the price. I'm not too good with laptop specs and such, so could someone tell me if this laptop is good for gaming for the price it's being sold? Thanks
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00B7K11MI

Answer
/For the price/ yes. The Radeon 7640G GPU integrated into the AMD A8-4500M is one of the better-performing GPUs you'll be able to get for ~$400.

If the price goes back up to $500, then no. Check out some of the "Gamer's Choice" laptops listed under the "Budget" section of the "Quick Picks" in the sidebar on http://reddit.com/r/SuggestALaptop/

Does anyone know an affordable, cheap, gaming laptop?

Herp

Please do not tell me to get a desktop, those are useless to me since I'm always traveling.

The thing is, I don't know nothing of computers, I only know basic things.

Anyways, I'm looking for a laptop, Windows 7 (any edition from Professional and up) 64-Bit, able to run games that need hardcore requirements like Skyrim, CoD, Battlefield, and GTA at the highest graphic settings with satisfactory FPS. Fast processor speed with a good amount of RAM.

If it's not much I'd also like it to be cool-looking like a Mac, or something that doesn't look like an old Dell laptop. Example, I was going to get this but It didn't satisfy me with it's specs (again, I only know basic things about computers so please correct me if I'm wrong).

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2393060,00.asp

I can only get something below 1000 USD since I have the cheapest parents in the world and I don't have a job.

Remember any answer is a good answer! Thank you for reading!

Answer
> Fast processor speed with a good amount of RAM.
Don't set baseless requirements on CPU and RAM. Most concern for CPU and RAM comes from false marketing. Actual relevance for concern for these specs isn't a general-case thing. What most computers come with in these areas is more than enough for most users.

> Remember any answer is a good answer!
I wouldn't be so quick to make that call on this site :P. We're talking about Yahoo Answers: Laptops & Notebooks. It isn't uncommon for many of the answers you get to be lacking consideration of necessary factors, lacking enough information, or just flat out 180-degrees wrong. Places such as http://reddit.com/r/SuggestALaptop have a much better track record for quality answers on this subject.

----------

@TWB: The ASUS V551LB-DB71T is not a good choice. Please avoid recommending it. The problem with the ASUS V551LB-DB71T is that it comes with a 15.6" 1366x768 display. 1366x768 resolution in a 15.6" display makes things onscreen large, and 15.6" displays that have 1366x768 resolution tend to be low-grade LCD panels with very poor image quality due to low contrast. You want to make a point to avoid displays like these when it's reasonable to do so. A 15.6" display isn't a display you want, and it frankly isn't a display that should be in a laptop costing nearly $1000 to begin with. The display is an important consideration, in that it has a huge effect on your entire user experience -- both in terms of how much you can fit onscreen due to the resolution itself, and in terms of quality that creates its impression continuously. You want to make a point to get a decent display once it starts getting to be reasonable to do so. A 15.6" 1366x768 display, for example, is not a "decent" display -- it's actually pretty bad. (If you're trying to recommend something with a touchscreen and a decent dedicated GPU for around that price, recommend this one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus---15.6%26%2334%3B-Touch-Screen-Laptop---8GB-Memory---1TB-Hard-Drive---Black/8937158.p?ci_src=11138&AID=10474050&PID=6149980&SID=13py88mjq1ivb&URL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bestbuy.com%2Fsite%2FAsus---15.6%2526%252334%253B-Touch-Screen-Laptop---8GB-Memory---1TB-Hard-Drive---Black%2F8937158.p%3Fci_src%3D11138&ref=39&loc=01&CJPID=6149980 )

In addition, your two HP recommendations are lacking consideration of necessary factors, both in terms of mentioning the upgrade to the decent display, and in terms of the nerfed 64-bit memory bus in the Envy 15t's version of the GT 740M (maybe you didn't know the second part, but... now you do).

----------

That said, for right up there or maybe a tad over, your best game performance will come from this:

**Sager NP7352** (NVIDIA GTX 765M, 15.6" 1920x1080 matte) - **$1046**
- http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np7352-clevo-w350st-p-5842.html?wconfigure=yes
- Scroll down to Operating System and select Windows. Windows 7 and Windows 8 are both offered.

----------

Or, for less money:

**Lenovo IdeaPad Y500** (NVIDIA GT 750M GDDR5, 15.6" 1920x1080) - **$809**
- Create a free account and sign in, at the Barnes and Noble Gold discount page: http://shoplenovo.i2.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/na/StdAffinityPortal/en_US/Lenovo:EnterStdAffinity?affinity=barnesnoblegold
- Take this model: http://shop.lenovo.com/barnesnoblegold/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y500/?sb=:000001C9:0000C50A:
- Avoid models that come with the 1366x768 display, and not the 1920x1080 display.
- Note: less battery life than some laptops due to lack of NVIDIA Optimus switchable graphics support, but larger than average capacity battery makes it not too bad.

**Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p** (NVIDIA GT 750M GDDR5, 15.6" 1920x1080 matte) - **$949**
- Create a free account and sign in, at the Barnes and Noble Gold discount page: http://shoplenovo.i2.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/na/StdAffinityPortal/en_US/Lenovo:EnterStdAffinity?affinity=barnesnoblegold
- Take this model: http://shop.lenovo.com/barnesnoblegold/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y510p/?sb=:000001C9:0000ECB3:
- Or this model: http://shop.lenovo.com/barnesnoblegold/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y510p/index.html?sb=:000001C9:0000ECB0: (adds 24GB mSATA SSD for HDD-Caching/Acceleration)
- Avoid models that come with the 1366x768 display, and not the 1920x1080 display.
- Reports indicate that, unlike the Y500, a solution (albeit a *manual* one) exists to switch from using the dedicated NVIDIA GT 750M to the integrated Intel HD graphics, in order to improve battery life.
- Main thing you're paying for if you get the Y510p over the Y500 is the ability to switch to integrated graphics to greatly improve battery life, and the matte/antiglare/non-glossy display.

**Toshiba Satellite P50** (NVIDIA GT 740M, 15.6" 1920x1080) - **$849**

What type of gaming laptop?

Matt

So I have a need a laptop for around 1000$ that i can use for gaming, such as league of legends, skyrim and hopefully the new elder scrolls coming out. Another thing I need is to be able to use it for everyday school work and internet surfing etc.

The biggest thing is that I need something that can have a strong connection to my wifi. I live in a rural area and I have issues with dependable all-game connection when I play league of legends, and all i want is to be able to run it at an optimal speed.

My friend owns an Asus laptop which he said he bought for around 1000$. whenever we play together he always loads into League of Legends faster than me and has a better constant ping rate than I do an my Macbook Pro even when we use the same wifi, so would that be a good option?

Answer
Look for a decent GPU and decent display at the same time, as those are what'll affect you most. The GPU for game performance, and the display as a general thing.

**Sager NP7355** (NVIDIA GTX 765M GDDR5, 15.6" 1920x1080 display w/ matte finish and good contrast) - **$999**
- http://powernotebooks.com/configure.php?special=1687
- Select Windows under Operating System, unless you can get a copy for cheaper. Default selection is No OS.

**Acer Aspire V3-772G-9653** (NVIDIA GTX 760M GDDR5, 17.3" 1920x1080 display w/ matte finish and good contrast) - **$999**
- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834314147

**MSI GE60** (NVIDIA GTX 660M GDDR5, 15.6" 1920x1080 display w/ matte finish and good contrast) - **$929**
- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152393

**MSI GE60** (NVIDIA GTX 760M GDDR5, 15.6" 1920x1080 display w/ matte finish and good contrast) - **$999**
- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152482
- Note: I'm not sure about the battery life on this one. The higher-end i7/765M version of the GE60 (not listed here) had battery life issues, but I don't know if they fixed them with this newly-released one
- Note: Windows 7.

**Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p** (NVIDIA GT 750M GDDR5, 15.6" 1920x1080 display w/ matte finish and good contrast) - **$839 tax**
- Sign up and sign in for the Barnes and Noble Gold discount: http://lenovo.com/barnesnoblegold/
- Take this model: http://shop.lenovo.com/barnesnoblegold/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y510p/?sb=:000001C9:0000ECB3:
- Or this model: http://shop.lenovo.com/barnesnoblegold/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y510p/?sb=:000001C9:0000ECB0: (adds SSD cache for hard drive acceleration)
- These are among the 1920x1080-display-equipped models. These are the models you want to be looking at, out of the Y510p line. Avoid any of the models that come with the 15.6" 1366x768 display and not the 15.6" 1920x1080 display.

**Acer Aspire V7-482PG-6662** (NVIDIA GT 750M DDR3, 14" 1920x1080 display w/ glossy finish, good contrast, and ultra-wide viewing angles, Touchscreen)

Would these configurations be alright for GTA 5 PC?

Benjamin

I know the game is not yet out for the PC and after asking to the yahoo answers i figured out it will take atleast two to three months to get on PC.
So i have a laptop which does not have good gaming graphics but here they are:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit
Intel Core i7 2670QM
RADEON Graphics 6490HD
Also 4GB of RAM(thinking of upgrading to 8GB if suggested)
So, please answer are they enough??
Humble answers are always welcomed.

Answer
Not really. There is no 6490D. The "D" generally designates on-die integrated graphics in AMD nomenclature. There is a 6490M discrete mobile video card though, which makes more sense. Unfortunately the 6490M is a weak GPU, it's only on par with the 6450 desktop card and that card doesn't play GTA IV with any grace or dignity. I would not plan to play GTA V on this computer. Adding more RAM won't help, as you're going to be severely GPU limited.

Also there has been no announcement for a PC version of GTA V. The alleged screenshots floating around reddit and other websites were hoaxes. I'm sure GTA V will hit the PC at some point, but I seriously doubt if it will be this year given that For Vice City, San Andreas, and GTA IV, Rockstar took at about 8 months in each case to get the PC version out after the initial console release.

Should I get a Ps4 or a new laptop?

Carl

I've got a ps3 that I love playing but is the ps4 really worth to buy on release? I mean i'll still be able to play the upcoming games this year on the ps3 right? My laptop is somewhat shitty and I'm not able to decide.

Any thoughts?

Answer
If you are a huge fan of gaming you should probably get a PS4. If you want it buy Launch Day order it quick! There's limited orders!

PS4 has an Internet Explorer app BTW.

If you use internet a lot and go on Youtube, Facebook, Reddit, you should probably get a laptop and wait for the PS4.

Penus Maxi

So the thing is I will be on the internet watching videos, reddit, or whatever and then all of the sudden the pages won't load, I know it can't be the internet since my internet works on my desktop, plus it will usually start working again once i restart my laptop. This is getting annoying since I like to play League of Legends a lot and it will suddenly disconnect. PLEASE HELP.

Answer
If your internet suddenly disconnects, it might be bad hardware or bad network drivers. Try to update the drivers if you can. Like shannon said, there's usually a wifi switch on most laptop. reset the switch and your network will reconnect. Otherwise, go to Start>Control panel>hardware and sound>device manager>network adapters>find your network card> right click> disconnect and then reconnect.
btw, since you like playing League of Legends, i'd suggest checking out their giveaway site http://www.leagueoflegendgiveaway.com/ for free in-game prizes :)
