Which laptop under $900 will play the Sims 3 smoothly without Shadow issues like ATI Radeon?

I plan on buying a laptop soon, but i heard that the ati radeon graphics have shadow issues, making the shadows all pixelly, so which laptop would you recommend, preferably under 900 dollars that doesnt use ati graphics but also does not have an integrated graphics card. please be nice i'm no expert at this.

I am 14 years old and looking to get into gaming with computers, I am looking for a laptop under 900$.
And although I will get a lot of hate for this, I can play certain M games.

I believe that once in a price range to get 1080p, that it is an important consideration in gaming. Ultra settings of games are designed for 1080p. On many games you have to choose then between the frames per second and the settings and the clarity of the image.

Lenovo.com is always a good place to start. There were prices under $900 for the Y580 with a core i7 CPU, and GTX 660M graphics and a 1080p screen. Prices are higher now than back in November for many laptops.
At Lenovo.com is Y500 and Y580.
$879 plus tax gets IdeaPad Y500 Laptop - 59360241 Core i7-3630QM, NVIDIA GeForce GT650M 2GB, 8GB 1600 speed DDR3 ram, 15.6" FHD LED Glare Wedge 1920x1080, 1TB 5400RPM+16GB SSD and other extras. 15.2 x 10.2 x 0.6 - 1.4" and about 6 pounds with a 6 cell lithium polymer battery. It is certainly a solid choice.

It has TWO crossfiring graphics chips in it! On the chart it shows better than GTX 670M
A core i5 is strong enough for gaming. It seems to have a nice red backlit keyboard and is 1080p also.
I think it is the best you can possibly do with $900, until they run out of them. It is a special build model.

here are all the details i would like for my laptop. Please review them then if you could answer the question with a link to the laptop's website.

1) What is your budget?
$1500 or lower

2) What size notebook would you prefer?
15"-17"

3) What country (and state) are you buying this in?

4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
I like MSI and Sager and i dont like dell, asus, and alienware

5) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
Gaming, Surfing the web, Homework for College, and possible video chat

Taking it with me to different places but most of the time it will probably be on the desk

Yes I do. Im okay with just the CDRW/DVD-ROM but I would prefer a Blu-Ray if it is not over my budget. (see first question and answer)

I would like a third gen ivy bridge i7 processor. So whatever is the fastest speed for that processor under my budget. (see first question and answer) Im okay with either dual or quad core but would prefer whichever one is faster.

19) Do you use wireless, or do you plan on using it? Do you use Bluetooth, or do you plan on using it?
I will and do use wireless. I don't use Bluetooth now but I may use it in the future.

Ah, I love helping people with high budgets choose laptops. Okay, so mainstream laptop manufacturers like HP, Lenovo, etc only make gaming laptops to a certain point. So serious gamers with a decent budget will have to look to gaming-specific laptop manufacturers. MSI and Sager are your best bet as Alienwares are wayyyy overpriced for what you get. I see you're familiar with xoticpc, good because that's probably the best place to buy gaming laptops. This is actually great timing, because they're having a 100$ sale on the models I think you should get.

The best graphics card for you, imho, is the AMD Radeon 7970m. This being this is powerful enough to max out most games (even battlefield 3), and the only Nvidia competitor is the 680m which is far more expensive.

There are only a few models that have this card in your price range, and these are the Sager NP9150, and the 17 inch equivalent that comes with a second hard drive slot, the NP9170 (and the GX60 which you should not think about, stop thinking about this now, NOW). These laptops have an option for the GTX 675mx, which is slightly less powerful than the 7970 but 100$ cheaper. This difference, however will make the difference from whether you can max out bf3 or not, so I'd go with the 7970.
I highly recommend Windows 8, don't listen to all the BS that it's bad for gamers, it's overall a better operating system. So including this in your laptop will cost another 80$ and bring you up to 1500$ on the dot if you pick the 15 inch one. So if you're not willing to pay over 1500$, you'll have to downgrade the 17inch one to a GTX 670mx if you want it. Personally, if this is a laptop and you want to take it around, I'd recommend the 15 inch. 17 inch laptops are just impractical imo, you might as well buy a desktop if you want a 100 pound laptop.
So, my recommendation is the 9150 with Win8.

Okay this isn't what you ask, but what I highly recommend is that you get a gaming desktop and then get a 500$ laptop to carry around. You can easily get a desktop that runs all current games in max setting for around 900-1000$ including Win8. If you travel often and want to game in hotel rooms, that's different and you can ignore this part. This is only if you want to mainly game at home, but still want the option of portability occasionally. If you want help with picking parts for a desktop, feel free to email me.

Can someone recommend me a decent mid-range gaming laptop?

I fear that my ancient HP laptop will die soon so I am looking for a replacement. The games I usually play aren't too demanding--things like Team Fortress, L4D2, League of Legends, Borderlands 2, CS:GO etc. I also use my laptop in college frequently, so models with decent weight and battery life are definitely a plus. Price isn't a big issue, but I hope I can find one near or under $900.

One laptop I have my eye on is a Lenovo T430 with an i5 and nvidia NVS 5400m. What I like about this laptop is that it weights slightly less than 5 pounds and has an insane battery life! The only caveat is that I've heard the 5400m is roughly equal to Intel 4600 in terms of performance so I might be better off with a newer model--can anyone confirm if this is true?

So, the system you show is about $425 value in a range of pricing in laptops from $300 to $2500.
If the price is under $425, it is an OK price.
The scale I use is based on the laptop's value in a competitive market of equivalent best value in the price range:
10 is $1300 and higher.
9 is $900 to $1300
8 is the $750 to $900 range
7 is $650 to $750
6 is $600 to $650
5 is $550 to $600
4 is $500 to $550
3 is $450 to $500
2 is $400 to $450
1 is the under $300-$400 laptop set, all of which are usually cheaply made for basic video functions.

I have a budget of £800 Im looking for a new laptop. I want it solely for gaming, skyping and for the internet. Unfortunately I know nothing of hardware so I don't know what Im looking for. I currently have an Acer with about a 17inch screen and a large keyboard to match. I would prefer large for both and I would also prefer a webcam and mic built in but if not then I can buy them elsewhere. If any more information is needed then I will do all I can to provide. Im just tired of my old laptop struggling to run minecraft and being unable to run pretty much any new game and overheating with youtube if I don't hold it the right way.
The problem is that I have to buy a UK version otherwise it wont have coverage and there will be problems with repairs and compatibility. I cant find a HP Envy but I can find HP Pavilion. GT 650M gaming can be looked up. The 1080p screen may slow the frame rate for low-medium-high, but I cannot find a better GPU/CPU combo at under £800

The HPs in the price range are not even close. Lenovo Y series is 15.6" not full HD

NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M on first you show is garbage compared with GT 650M
cheaper Samsung NP355V5C 7670M is similar to GT 630M, has a weaker A10-4600M CPU at 3158 score, is not full high def, is 15.6" where I thought you want a 17.3"
HP Pavilion dv7-6c01ea has a dismally slow CPU compared to everything else presented so far, and is still only HD 7670M.
At your price point, you want GT 650M, and only Dell and Lenovo show that so far, and dell is 17.3" full High def at under 800.

USA prices are irrelevent. There is no VAT here and instead prices without local sales tax of up to 8%. The competition is also higher here, so pricing is lower. Totally a waste to look at USA prices.
The 739 pound Dell ordered today is the way to go (prices go up or down later) or pay more for a Samsung of lower specs. Unless you find another GT 650M or higher graphics.
