Help choosing a laptop?

John

I am trying to choose a gaming laptop (NOT A PC) that will run Planetside 2 on max settings (and other games such as COD Black Ops 2, Day Z, Warframe, Metro: Last Light, etc), but I don't know which one to get without spending over $1,500. Can anyone help me? My spending limit is $1,000.

Requirements for my Laptop:

Intel i5 duo or i7 duo (4th generation)
10 GB ram or more (need a minimum of 8gb usable)
Nvidia Ge-force 500 series or better
15 or 17 inch screen
Windows 8 (7 will work, if necessary)
Over 3 hour battery life
NO TOUCH SCREEN!!!!

I am getting a laptop so it can be used on the go for essays,

Answer
You can go for A.M.D apu's. They are value for money gaming pcs. You can play most of the new games 2013 with medium settings. I own a similar config hp laptop A10 processor. But Mine has 7660G graphics card. Now they have released the new A.M.D Richland processors. They are faster than the previous generation processors and come with better gpus( Radeon HD 8550G)

Is this a good laptop for gaming?

Laura

I want to play MMORPG online games like Metin2 and Wartunes and so. Based on this info, what do you think?

Laptop Pavilion g6
E2 Vision AMD 1800 APU with Radeon
6GB
Windows 8 64-bit
x64 based-processor
(2CPUs)HD Graphics 1.70 GHz
6144MB Ram
Not even close? O_O But... but... but... how comes that?! T_T
LOL! What kind of source is that?! XD
But I'll be able to play games released before 2012/2011/1010, right?

Answer
not even close, it would probably struggle with low requirement games :/

If you want to get a laptop and play games on it, i wouldnt recommend anything less then like an amd A8-4500m tbh. You should be able to find laptops with that for $320-400 price range.

EDIT: an amd E-series apu playing games on med lol? ummm maybe the sims3 at 800x600 resolution...
The E-series is the econemy series apus which are NOT made for ANY gaming at all.

It can play really old games, since those games were based on really old hardware which arnt close the the performance of todays hardware, even low end ones.

The games you want to play have like no requirements at all. But dont buy a computer just to play games you may be playing right now, as that will limit you on playing anything else.

I mean that computer would struggle with any modern f2p mmorpgs, even though they have very low requirements by todays hardware standards.

EDIT2: the amd e-series sucks

Get one of these
(in order from lowest to highest performance)

they all destroy that laptop in performance

EDIT3: the source is meant for other answer who always has that as their source, which is ridiculous

2012/2011 is ehhh.... 2010 is like a "maybe", it should be able to play 2009 and earlier games ok at lower settings.

the amd a8-4500m can play most all 2013 games, and a laptop with an E-series is like $300-350ish, and an A8-4500m is like $350-400 so....

which is best gaming laptop?

Cristian

It is an HP Envy 15t-j100, about $860. (My budget is under $900)

I'm not a heavy PC gamer, but I do want to be able to run some games at a good frame rate and nice graphics. I want to be able to play games like Skyrim, Modern Warfare, Saints Row, Left 4 Dead, and some MMOs.
(Specs)
Operating system: Windows 8.1 64

Processor: 4th generation Intel® Core⢠i7-4700MQ

Graphics card: NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 740M Graphics with 2048MB of dedicated video memory

Display: 15.6-inch diagonal HD BrightView LED-backlit Display (1366x768)
Memory: 8GB DDR3 System Memory (1 Dimm)

Hard drive: 1TB 5400 rpm Hard Drive

Answer

Brand buying advise

You get what you pay for. Systems with high end parts with low prices are to be viewed with suspicion. They have to cut corners somewhere to get the price down. What cost you less today is going to cost you more tomorrow.

Apple makes a good quality laptop. The problem comes when it requires service or minor upgrades. It is near impossible to do anything with them. They even glue the battery and hard drive down so you can not change it. They solder the ram to the logic board so you can not increase it. They lock up most of the software so your stuck with what they approve.

Lenovo has serious stand behind their product problems. They bought IBM PC division and proceeded to drive the quality of the system into the ground. Their customer service is well below par. They even makes Dell customer service look good. The last and final thing to remember about them is they are a Chinese Government own company. It is up to you if you want to trust them.

Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony should be avoided because of their heavy modification of Windows and the drivers. If you remove some of the bloat they install, you can cripple the system.

Acer, Gateway, and eMachines should be avoided period. Low end system that are driving the race to the bottom.

Dell once made a good system and fell from grace. They are now struggling to regain their place in the market. Customer service is one of many problems with this company.

Alienware are glorified Dells and are more name then product. Priced extremely high for what you get. They do perform but you can get the same for less by looking around, just not packaged to be eye candy to the gamers.

Samsung has a history of using cheap parts in critical areas. Capacitors has been one area Samsung has a known history of going cheap, causing units to fail early. For that reason I would avoid them.

ASUS and HP do not modify Windows as bad as the other manufacturers. They have excellent build quality. They might add a lot of bloat but they also makes it easy to get rid of it.

Ultrabooks are the higher end of Wintel laptops but they have some of the same concerns as Apple. Your paying for it being thin and slim. For the money your going to spend on it you can buy a much better laptop with more power.

Hybrids are the worse of the worse. The flip or detachable touch screens are just a disaster waiting to happen.

Never buy an All In One. They are far worst then laptops of any kind to service and they have a higher failure rate.

Choose wisely.

decent and cheap low to mid range gaming laptop?

I know there is no real good cheap "gaming laptop" , but I was wondering if anyone knew of a a decent low to mid range type with at least a dedicated graphics card for around $500-600. I'd like something that can at least run minecraft maxed, and maybe some other newer games. Thanks for the input!
