Best gaming laptops under $1000?

Whoop

Also, should I avoid Windows 8? Would I be better off with a desktop (portability isn't too important to me)?

Most reliable laptop brands: the results

Apple tops the list, as might be expected from such a premium PC builder. Apple products are far from cheap, but they do offer a quality experience. Runner up Dell has a very different business model. It, like other high-ranking brands HP and Asus, operates as a volume laptop maker, selling many thousands of laptops every week. We would expect to see them, and Lenovo, high up in our list because they sell so many PCs: but their higher ranking suggests a lot of satisfied customers.

Laptop Recommendations?

shmedric

Hi, I've been looking into buying a laptop... Now, seeing that I'm 16, i don't need much... Here's a list of what i do on the computer pretty much:

-About 800 songs on itunes with a season of a tv show
-Internet browsing (facebook, twitter, youtube etc)
-Fl Studio 10 (music production software that's about 700 or 900MBs)
-Some very small games. And i mean small.. (None take more than 200MBs of space)
-Possibly Netflix (I usually don't watch netflix but i may at some points)
-Microsoft office

That's basically it.. The games I use are so small that my 8 year old desktop that is a piece of crap can handle it no problem. The main think i want is speed. I want my computer to be pretty fast. It doesn't need to be unbelievable fast, but just enough that i'm not pulling my hair out when i try to open a program and it won't open.

If possible I'd like to have windows 7.... but i can deal with windows 8 if absolutely need be. I do not want a mac.

I'd like to spend from about $300-$450 if that's possible. I really am not looking for anything special... Just something to fit the list of requirements above. Thanks!

Hard Drive needs to be check for consistency?

adrian

I got that message saying my c drive needs to be checked for consistency. I followed some internet steps to fix it. However, even though the message is gone, the error seems to still be there. I can't launch VLC player, some computer games, photoshop, etc. They just don't launch and some crash instantly. For example, google chrome will say there is a problem causing google chrome to stop working.

What do I do? I'm using windows 7 laptop with an SSD.
Also, scanning the C drive, the scan results could not be completed for a lot of files because " the device is not ready" . What is going on here? :S
OK things are getting worse. Now remote procedure call has failed and I can't access the drive at all. Only Skype and Firefox seem to be the unaffected program. Help, what do I do???

Answer
Probably there are viruses in your system. Download Kaspersky Antivirus 2013, install it and launch a full scan:

Laptop for college? Any advice?? 10 points best answer!!!!?

Dark A

I'm starting college in the fall and need a strong and durable laptop. I won't be using it for gaming so the features I will need will be basic: microsoft, a lot of web searching, downloading music, etc. Mostly school and personal use so a fast laptop would be really great. I'm an economics major but I'm not sure if I'll need any special programs. If any of you guys know about this, please let me know.

So yeah, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Things I'm looking for in a laptop are these:

Long battery life
Intel processor
decent memory
Something that would last me 4 years (if possible)
Something not too heavy
Something with windows 7 perhaps? I'm not a big fan of windows 8

Also any input on MacBooks or ultrabooks would be great. Is it worth it or no?

Thank you so much!

How do I increase battery life in Linux?

CamTheSaxM

I have an Acer Aspire 5920 laptop with Linux Mint 15 Xfce 64-bit. And my battery life sucks. When it ran Windows Vista, I remember getting a good 3-4 hours of battery life, even when watching movies or playing games. Vista died, so I installed Linux Mint. Now, my battery life is only 2-2.5 hours. And that's when it's just sitting idle. My fan runs at high speed all the time and it sounds like an aircraft taking off when I boot up the computer. The cpu temperature hovers somewhere around 37 degrees Celcius, which I believe is typical for a laptop. I don't know if these problems are a driver issue or what, but it's pretty pathetic. The laptop's hardware specs can be found here: http://www.cnet.com/laptops/acer-aspire-5920/4507-3121_7-32461074.html

jupiter is one of the easiest methods. for linux mint 15:

if you get desperate, install and try lighter desktop environments in your system. lxde for instance.

I really want/need a laptop. I can only afford anything under $300, maybe up to $400 but that's it. What is the best laptop to get close to what I'm looking for?

500gb hard drive or more
CD drive
Good for gaming
Has atleast Microsoft PowerPoint or something for school projects (typing essays, etc.)
Good battery
Good reviews
Won't break or crash within a year or two

Laptop or desktop or notebook I don't know the difference between them. I mean I'm 17 anything that would be good for me works. Please don't list anything over $400. Thanks.

Please help? My external hard drive is not recognized by any of my devices?

k80

ok so I have tried plugging it into my pc, the laptop and I tired it with the hard reader (to watch movies on my TV) and it's not recognized by any of them. It happened all of a sudden. it used to work fine. I mean sometimes (but very rarely) the laptop didn't detect it but now none of the devices recognize it.
I have very important documents in it. Does anyone know what I can do? even temporarily so I could copy my stuff somewhere else?
I'm not very smart when it comes to computers either so please explain everything I need to do step by step.
I would really appreciate it
Hi Bob,
Thank you so much for answering. Unfortunately your email is not mentioned in your profile and I'm not sure if you will get back to my question but my external hard drive is not listed in the disk management, even though it's connected to the pc.
any idea what I should do? :(
