What would be a good gaming desktop/laptop at a lower price?

Q. I have been spending most of my years playing games on console, but I would like to try and play some games on a Desktop PC/ Laptop. I would most likely play some rpg/mmo or FPS games. But Im not rich at all so I am looking for something cheaper that can also run games at a medium/low quality with no lag. Any ideas? Im not very smart on computers either so try to dumb it down for me a bit too.

I found a pretty great laptop for you. It can even run Skyrim on low settings. Counter Strike on High settings with 100+ FPS (Runs great pretty much)

I found a site to show how good it plays games. Scroll down to Game Benchmarks. If you see anything that's 30 or more FPS, That means it's playable

Low price gaming laptops?

Right now I have $600, and I'm looking for a laptop. It doesn't need to be a full on gaming laptop, but it has to be able to games smoothly. I'm looking to play Final Fantasy XIV, which is about the same as World of Warcraft, or your average MMORPG. I also animate using Flash, so it should be able to run that smoothly to. I want some good ram, and around a 15 or 16 inch screen. Please help, thanks.

but anyways you should flip through amazon.com or newegg.com

they generally have have nicely rated laptops.

what you should look for is 4gb+ ram
atleast a i3 processor

I like the dell inspiron but i don't now whether it is good for gaming. I like playing total war games which need high graphic cards and a good sized hard drive space. Just want to now if you now any good laptops for a low price or if the dell inspiron is good enough for my uses ?

This answer takes Inspiron and Studio (both from Dell) 15" laptops as examples ( Bigger (or smaller) screen models have different hardware ).

The graphics chip inside the Inspiron AKA the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) is only an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD.

There lies the weak link ( or Achilles heel ) for those systems.

It is only a class 3 or Low-Midrange Graphics - Lower end of Graphics Chips for users who want to play games.

New games should run on these cards, but only with decreased details and mediocre resolution.


For what you want (high graphics), you need a class 2 or (even better) class 1 GPU.


A class 2 or Midrange Graphics chip should be able to display all current games with fluent framerates but not all with high detail settings.

Especially demanding games like Crysis, Age of Conan, or Mass Effect are only playable with lower settings.

Less demanding (and older) games, like Fifa 08, Command & Conquer 3, or Battlefield 2142 can be played with higher detail levels.


A class 1 or High End Graphics Chip is compareable to enthusiasm desktop graphics cards, like the 9800M GT.

The cards have a similar core, as their desktop counterparts, but are clocked lower and often have less shader processors.

Modern games like Age of Conan, Race Driver Grid, Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect, or Gothic 3 should run fluently with high details (Crysis should run in medium to high details).

What gaming laptop is good for me?

I've been looking into some gaming laptops, and I can't really seem to find one that's right for me. I've looked into alienware, but people say that alienware isn't worth buying at all, and that they are overpriced. I've also looked into iBuyPower and Cyberpower gaming laptops, but it seems like that they don't have many options for me. I'm looking for a laptop that has performance that can play games like battlefield 3 and crysis 3 on at least high settings, and obviously for the lowest price i can find.

can anyone recommend a good, low priced, gaming laptop that is below the $1200 area?

I highly recommend Sager laptops. You can get one that's part-for-part the same as an alienware (down to the steelseries keyboard) but costs $500 less, and is a sturdier build.
