I am about to purchase a laptop for gaming and want to know whether MORE CORES or HIGHER GHz is better for gaming? The laptop im thinking of purchasing has AMD Quad-Core A-Series A8-3500M(1.5GHz) with AMD Radeon HD 6750M Dedicated Graphics Card. Will that run current games?

Don't get a laptop for gaming. Laptops are notorious for bogging down under a load. For games more speed is better but this is only half of the power needed. You also need a good video card. Only a desktop can provide enough power in the video card to run the games good. They can run on a laptop but very poorly.

Gaming and laptop doesn't go together, in my honest opinion.

Your processor is ok it will be better if it's over 3.0 GHz
you forget to mention your video card, you need to have a good video card in order to play games like MW2 or any new games.

Gaming Laptop Processor Speeds?

I am trying to buy a gaming laptop that's good enough to run games that recommend or require 3.2 Ghz processors (Arkham Asylum & Modern Warfare 2) but I am wondering if I actually have to buy a laptop that has a 3.2 Ghz processor. During my research some people's processors that were less than 3.2 overclocked and could run Arkham Asylum. I'm not trying to overdo it and get more than I really have to obviously for pricing reasons. Any help would be great!! Also suggestions on great laptops that would run these games at full speed are more than welcome!

Overclocking a laptop is like playing Russian Roulette with a (Semi-Automatic) Pistol instead of a Revolver...

As for the term "Gaming Laptop" it is an oxymoron...no laptop is a Gaming Machine...and any laptop listed as such, likely will cost you about $1000 more than it needs to.

But, if you're set on a laptop...look for one with discrete graphics cards, and either HD4xxx series cards, or 9800GTX or better.

You will then be looking for a 3.0 gHz or better dual core processor, or quad (overkill, but if you're in it for the status...).

Once you've done that, you'll need a 17" or so screen.


You may find it easier to have someone build you a semi-high-end LAN box and buy a decent LCD screen. It's as portable as a laptop, and almost as convenient to transport if you have the "backpack" rig to do so

I'm looking into buying a gaming laptop, and I've narrowed the search down to :
-Alienware
-iBuypower
-Asus
-Origin
First, I'm wondering if there are any other brand names out there that could hold a candle to these. if so let me know in the response.
Next, I'm looking at getting a laptop with these stats:
i7 processor
1gb video mem
8-18 gb ram
500gb+ 7200 rpm hard drive, possibly a SSD.

Lastly, I'm aware I can create my own computer for possibly a cheaper price, I'd rather not go through that hassle because I'm technologically impaired. Thank you for any useful input in advance!

I actually don't believe that those are the best, but you may disagree with me. I think MSI offers great gaming laptops. They are tough, are designed well, and also very powerful.

Also, I'm just going to put it out there that if you're not MLG or a very serious gamer, you probably don't need a gaming laptop. There are very powerful laptops out there with the specifications that you want, that are much thinner, much better designed, and are more reliable. The MacBook Pro with Retina display meets all of your standards. (MBP retina is a mac though, you probably want a PC for gaming). HP, Lenovo, and Samsung also have great powerful computers.

Sorry for actually widening the range of laptops for you to search from, but I really don't believe that gaming laptops are necessary. I hope it helped though! :)

try and amd c-60 processor. these processor are not crappy,they are just designed for lower end uses. not everyone needs a super processor and for your games a nd needs you dont. need one. in exchange for being low end, you get a few advantages. first is battery life. not only do you have less charges,but that leads to a longer overall battery life. second becuase it uses alot less energy you get less heat stress on your laptop. you could run it for hours and it would barely warm up.that will save on the life of your laptop as well. you dont need a laptop cooling fan which not only saves money but if you need to carry it around with you it saves you the aggravation of carrying around the fan. so power isnt the only important thing in a laptop. you shouldnt pay for more then what you need.feel free to contact me if you need help finding a good laptop or need more info

Im planning on buying an HP Gaming Laptop with Core i7 processor and atleast 6 GB RAM. Could any computer tech tell me which VGA Card brand is best in my case. And please give any recommendations too.

P.S : Price range isnt a problem and I gave the specs of my PC because people say that a good VGA Card should have other good PC Specs to cope with the VGA Card too.

The Laptop graphics go to nVidia. something like a 660M will do fine.

**However currently the 7970 is the leading Desktop graphics due to a nice new driver update putting it ahead of the 680GTX.

I am buying a gaming laptop, and I was wondering how long these specs will last me, and if I will be able to run games like call of duty modern warfare 2 and crysis. The specs are

Its alright. Another question I'd ask about it is if the hard drive is 5400RPM or 7200RPM. Laptop drives normally come 5400, which is obviously slower than the 7200RPM. Where this effects performance is the loading of texture files from the hard drive (background graphics in games). Without seeing further specs on the laptop its hard to generate a good opinion of it. If the Nvidia mobile chipset it has is GTX and in add-on form its great. If its integrated and drawing from the 4 gbs of memory, not so much. All and all I advise people to try to stick with desktops for gaming. Easier to upgrade when games start demanding more, and they can be built small for hauling over to lan parties as well. Lot less heat issues with gaming desktops compared to laptops as well.
