What is the best gaming laptop for 2011?

A lot of people say that Alienwares are the best, however some say you don't get good value for the money you pay for them. I just want to know what to Alienwares lack and what is the best gaming laptop I can get?

ASUS G74SX-3DE 17.3-Inch Gaming Laptop - Republic of Gamers. The screen looks very good and the 3D looks as good or better than any I have seen. Even older games like Titan Quest IM that were not programmed specifically for this technology look pretty cool with it. I am pretty busy and do not play many games so I can not tell you about more recent games. But with the look of the demo shots that came with it, I would say they should look pretty good.

Decent Gaming Laptop?

What is a decent priced Gaming Laptop out on the market? I would like to run Starcraft 2 on Normal Settings. My price range is around 1k. Is Alienware really worth the cost?
To Clarify: I will also be using the laptop for uni so a desktop is out of the question.
Im interested in the Lenovo Z560, is this a decent laptop?

want to game? GET a desktop!!!!! simple. Alienware laptops are not worth it. IF you really want to game. build your own custom gaming PC. no matter how much you spend for a laptop it will never be a nice gaming platform ...

then get a netbook for uni (200$) and build your cutom gaming desktop for 600-700$ if you build it yourself you will save alot. I built mine for 700$ and on teh market (DELL / alienware) sell it for 1300+) I got a phenom II x6 / 64 SSD / 1 TB 7200 / GTX 470 / 8 GIG of ram DDR3 .. and it was under 750$) oh and a 700WATT PSU.

honestly... who wants to carry around a 17 inch "gaming" laptop? it will be bulky!! and a waste as you can never tinker with it and upgrade as you want.

if you insist then you need one with dedicated graphics not integrated. here is one:

very tough to find one with dedicated graphics in that price range.. you should up it to 1500 if you want a decent gaming laptop!!

"laptop" and "gaming" are opposites my friend, and no gaming desktop (or any decent desktop for that matter) will cost under 500. If you want a decent gaming desktop, 600 is MINIMUM.

What would make a better gaming laptop?

Im in the market for a new laptop this christmas, and id like it to be a gaming laptop that also is used for school etc. I currently have a vaio, and i really like the brand so im leaning toward another vaio but with way better specs. The two im looking for is one that has 15.5 inch screen (1366x768), 8 GB of RAM, i7 2.10 GHz CPU, AMD Radeon HD 7550M 2GB GPU, and 500 GB 5400 rpm hard drive for $885, and the other that has a 15.5 inch screen (1920x1080), 8 GB of RAM, i7 2.1 GHz CPU, Nvidia GeForce GT 640M LE 2GB GPU, and 500 GB 7200 rpm hard drive for $1050. Which is the better deal, or should i even get a vaio in the first place? it would be my main gaming computer. Thank you for all answers
it cant be a desktop because I live in a dorm, and i also need it to be portable to be able to take it anywhere if i need to

I'm looking to buy a 17 inch laptop, I use laptops mostly on beds and sometimes take it to places, I watch movies and videos and play games on it. I don't mind the weight, so would it be too big? I can get a 15 inch and 2gb less ram for 100 dollars less, which one should I go for?

It's a matter of personal preference.

I would never get a 17-inch laptop; something that big defeats the whole purpose of a laptop, which is using it on the top of your lap. I'd go with the 15 inch machine and throw in the 2 GB of missing RAM (unless it already has 4 gigs, in which case it's fine).

Alienware m15x or Dell XPS.
Alienware has very good internal parts in it, so it will last a long time. I have an alienware m15x. Its is 2 years old, and it's performing GREAT! It can easily handle the games I play. Its also very good with school work. The best thing about alienware is that it doesn't have integrated graphics! :D

Dell XPS is also good. However the low end of Dell XPS has integrated graphics. :( So if you want to buy a Dell XPS, you have to buy one without integrated graphics.

I think you should get an alienware area m15x though. It's built to last. I spend more on hardware and less on software. :D If you need software, youtube is a great site to look for them. lol

while alienwares are indeed overpriced, with a large budget like your they offer the best mobile performance computers available. check out the m18x as its the highest upgradeable platform available.remember that with thick gaming laptops a specialized bag is required as a regular 17 inch laptop bag will not fit a 17 inch gaming laptop let alone an 18 inch if you get the m18x.
if you are not going to use up all your budget then i'd go with an asus g75 with an SSD. this will offer the best performance with price in mind.

Portable DVD player + 7 movies
2 cell phones and iPod
And my purse.


Should I use a carry on suitcase to put my laptop in??? Or should I purchase a separate laptop case for the laptop and put the DVD player in my purse?

You will have to remove all your electronics to go through every
security checkpoint. You may be questioned on entering the
country why you have so many duplicate electronics - certain
countries are very strict with ideas that you will resell these items.
Long flights have individual movie screens, and you can choose
from recent releases, classics, TV shows, news, games etc.

Personally, l would just get one wheelie carryon to organize
all your stuff (and when you get to security, put your purse in
the carryon, that way it is much less likely to be stolen off the belt)
