I'm looking for a laptop that will be if not top-notch, then at least very formidable in four years.
Things I'm looking for:
* Very quick and able to multi-task engineering software.
* Ability to cope with and dominate games like Crysis and games in the near future.
* Preferably 18" or 16" 16:9 display ratio with high HD capabilities.
* Very high end graphics card.
* Very high end sound card.
* At least 4 GB (preferably more) RAM.
* At least 350 GB Hard Drive.
* Bluetooth ready.
* Wireless card ready.
*Anything else you can think of that's beneficial.
I look forward to your responses and expertise.
Thank You.
* Forgot to mention, Blue Ray drive is a must.
I have been researching quite a bit. Please help me out if you know a lot about what you're talking about. It would be really appreciated.
Some of these recommendations are from manufactures such as Sager and Toshiba. Are these good names in laptop OEM's, or should I stick with HP, Dell or Sony?
Answer
The HP HDX16T series has everything you have listed plus more, and is a VERY good laptop. I have one, and 8 other computers in my household. I like it and my 17 inch macbook pro the best. You can get the hdx with 8 gigs of ram, 500 gig hard drive, blue ray, bluetooth, hi def wide screen, and much more for around 2,500.

For MW3 on low you need Intel HD Graphics 3000 or better even without dedicated RAM. Some try to fool you with a bad dedicated graphics card.

There is what I found between Newegg, Tigerdirect, BHPHOTO, and Best Buy
The 7670M is slightly better than the 6650M, but 6GB and 500GB is better than 4GB and 320GB
It would be nice to have a stronger CPU.

They agree it will run on either system. The 7670M would get high settings on MW3 if the CPU doesn't bottleneck it. 6650M would be just a little lower in frame rate, and there are a few games that might fall between these chips as running or now. You might be able to change a ram card in the 4GB model. pop out a 2GB and put in a 4GB. The Acer has gigabit ethernet in hardwire connect
