Hi, im looking to buy a gaming laptop (as im always out and about and need something that is portable) to run skyrim on Ultra or High settings. I've come across two laptops that I really like, but im having a hard time comparing them in terms of performance, in particular the gpu and the cpu. They are http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/computers⦠and http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/computers⦠. My question is, which would be better for gaming (skyrim, crisis 2 etc)and in particular i want to know which has better gpu/cpu. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx :)

Both of your links take me to the same page, which is not a specific product description for anything. Alienware does make good laptops, but you will be paying an incredible premium for it. If you have 1500 dollars to spend on a laptop go ahead. But you would be better off spending 1,200 on a good gaming desktop and 300 on a laptop. Do you really need to play games when you're not at home? If not, go with a cheap laptop and a good gaming desktop at home. That solves both your problems.
Edit: By the way, it will take 1,500 dollars for a laptop that can max out Skyrim. So if that wasn't your budget then there's no answer.

I am looking for a sub $850 gaming laptop that can run skyrim at its max settings?
I want to get into pc gaming I don't know much about and would prefer to buy the laptop from a known site and I am not really looking into building it. The laptop also needs to work well for school and have at least a 14 inch screen. (I don't have any extra parts like a screen, mouse, keyboard etc.) any help is appreciated thanks.
Answer
COMPLETELY maxing skyrim on a laptop will be dang near impossible. I have a desktop with 2 6850s in crossfire and an overclocked phenom that are faster than any laptop could ever hope to be... yet even at 1360x768, Skyrim STILL gets choppy for me. I have to turn down AA to 4x and shadow quality to high.
On the other end of the spectrum, my $579 HP dv6-6140us will play Skyrim on high settings with a few mods like a champ. Visually, it's hard to tell the difference between high on my laptop and ultra on my desktop (until you install texture mods, of course).
A lenovo Y570 would do the trick. Thier build quality is legendary (which they inherited from IBM), and the speakers, graphics, and screen in the Y570 are great for gaming. You can get the Y470 if you prefer a 14" screen (15.6" and bigger is a pain to lug around).

If you need more horsepower, you'll have to get a 17.3" monster
