I would like to have a computer that has enough performance to download movies and play a bit of light gaming. I was thinking along the lines of a HP Pavilion or a Dell Computer. I would love to have the latest i7, but whether you can afford that for $1000 dollars is up to your knowledge. Please, I need some recommendations!

Answer
The Best Laptops Under $1000

1. Designer Looks: HP Pavilion dv2660se
Sold exclusively through Best Buy, the $949 HP Pavilion dv2660se offers strictly middling performance, but its exceptional battery life and a great design make it [our] winning laptop under $1000.

2. Got Game: Acer Aspire 5920-6954
Except for business applications, which it lacks, the $999, 7.2-pound Aspire 5920-6954 has just about everything that price-conscious home-office buyers could ask for. It includes a 250GB hard drive and both an HDMI port and an HD DVD reader. It also has a subwoofer for better-than-average sound and a handy volume wheel.

3. Built to Order: Dell Inspiron 1525
Like the excellent HP Pavilion dv2600se, this $999, 15.4-inch Dell has lots of entertainment features: an instant-on button, a Webcam, and even dual headphone jacks. The 1525's Media?Direct button also lets you view your calendar, contacts, and PowerPoint presentations--without booting into Windows.

4. Lightweight Contender: Fujitsu LifeBook S7211
This svelte $899 Windows Vista Business laptop has only two significant drawbacks: so-so speed, and an inability to burn DVDs. The S7211 notched a WorldBench 6 score of 56, putting it 14 percent behind the average of 65 earned by the five sub-$1000 laptops we tested. Aside from a minor glare problem, the 14.1-inch, 1280-by-800-resolution screen is crisp and readable.

5. Sweet Sound: Toshiba Satellite Pro A210-EZ2201
The basic $699 Toshiba Satellite Pro A210-EZ2201 is the lowest-priced laptop of our sub-$1000 group, and it's also rather slow, with short battery life too. If pinching pennies is paramount, however, this 15.4-inch, Windows Vista Basic notebook can get mainstream work done without too much fuss. The only model here using an AMD processor, and only one of two to include just 1GB of RAM, the Satellite Pro A210-EZ2201 achieved a WorldBench 6 score of just 54.

what is currently the most powerful netbook?

lawgic

is there a more powerful netbook than the msi u230 today? specs:1.6ghz AMDx2,ati HD3200 256mb graphics card, up to 4gb DDR2 memory, up to 320GB harddrive, wireless N, etc.

Answer
Yes. This February, Alienware released the M11x, the world's first gaming netbook, which weighs in at just under 4.5 pounds. With everything maxed out (it is customizable at Alienware.com), it houses a 1.3GHz Core 2 Duo, 8 GBs of DDR3 800 RAM and either a 500GB SATAII 7,200RPM Hard Drive or a 256GB Solid State Hard Drive. These, along with its 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M Video Card, make it the most powerful 11 inch laptop on the face of the planet.
It's powerful, ultra portable graphics card allows it to play such games as COD4, Left 4 Dead, Dirt 2, Need for Speed Shift and Crysis, all on medium to high settings.
Yet, one must still remember that it is a netbook, a class of computers valued for their great battery life. Here, however, Alienware has not disappointed us, giving it an amazing 8.5 hours of battery life while under normal use, and around 3.5 hours of unplugged gaming time.
Its starting price is $799; the one described above would cost $1,399 ($1,819 with the 256GB Solid State Hard Drive).

I hoped this helped.
