What is a good affordable gaming LAPTOP?

Killingu53

I want to buy a new laptop, mainly to game on. I will be playing bf3, minecraft, and maybe cod. So is there a good reliable laptop i can game on for at or under 1000 dollars. Is hp good?

Answer
Gaming laptops are very expensive, prone to overheating, and have a terrible battery life. Most true PC gamer use desktops. For the 1000$ you could build a superior gaming desktop than to buy a gaming laptop for the equal amount.

Also, laptops are very difficult to upgrade and most people won't bother upgrading it anyways. Buying a laptop means you are locked with what you got without the chance of upgrading the hardware, by time it becomes outdated, your only choice would be to throw it away and have to buy a new laptop all together. Desktops on the other hand are future proof, when hardware becomes outdated, swap it out and put in new hardware. Sorry for not answering your question I just don't want you to make a choice you will regret afterwards.

whats good for gaming? LAPTOP or a PC?

Sam

hey i am think to buy a new computer soon. so i was thinking what to buy a PC or a laptop, i mean i play games sometimes but not that much so what wub be better?

Answer
A PC. Laptops aren't made for games. Every laptop I ever had would go nuts if I played games on them, or even installed them. My PC hasn't ever had any of those problems I used to get with my laptops. I think it's because PCs are normally built with more video card power and RAM and all that stuff.

Opinions on alienware laptops?

Flo

I really want one, but I keep getting mixed reviews about it, some say its the best gaming laptop as well as can be used for other things like web browsing, and others completely bash it primarley on the keys and the fan. I heared it was really loud while gaming? I primarley want to use it for gaming, but i dont game THAT much but id like for it to run fast and stuff, and ive been meaning to get a new laptop as i already have a mac, but anyways, opinions on them?

Answer
I have an alienware laptop. Its about 6 years old, and runs like one from 2010! Its amazing. And how much technology has advance since then is alot. But at the same time, if you want it gaming. Its the one for you. I use it alot! And ive never had too have it be worked on.

Recommend a laptop for the clueless?

*Sombra*

We are wanting to replace our fried desktop PC (R.I.P.) with a laptop. Unfortunately we know nothing about laptops and I feel like the more I research the topic, the more confused I get!

I have read and heard good things about HP and Asus. Not so good about Dell. Have heard that Toshiba and Acer are OK but not great. Sony seems overpriced. Never had a Mac, so not particularly interested in that brand.

Am I getting the right information? The salesmen (kids, actually) at Best Buy are gaga for Asus, I suspect because it is considered the best for gaming?

I don't need a gaming computer. I need something for internet browsing, email, etc. In other words, a computer that will get a LOT of daily use by 3 family members, but not HARD use.

What features are most important and worth paying for?
Which brand(s) are considered good?
Which brand(s) to avoid?

Reliability, speed, and value for the $ are my main concerns. Tech support is a consideration too. I'm not locked into a particular price point, but don't want to overspend for features I don't need. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated ... as you can see, I need all the help I can get!

Thanks.

Answer
When buying a laptop, always look for the following specifications:

Processor
Video chipset
RAM
Expandability
Operating System
Hard disk size
Battery life
Video screen size (resolution)
Wireless networking
DVD/CD/Blu-Ray options
Webcam availability

You can find detailed computer specifications directly on the manufacturerâs website (hp.com, Toshiba.com, dell.com, etc.)

Obviously, the deciding factor, all things being equal, is the price, warranty, plus the manufacturerâs and/or sellerâs reputation. User reviews are also useful to gauge how popular or unpopular a laptop is.

Processor â The most current processors as of this writing are the Intel i3, i5 and i7, that just came out around January 2010. The higher the processor number, the faster it is, but also, the more expensive. I3 processors are great for casual to power users. The i5 is kind of the best choice if you also do some gaming and power usage (development, video creation), although the i3 is also great for those too. For hard-core users (developers, gamers and such) the i7 is the best choice.

Video chipset - Regardless of the processor, consider obtaining a video card if you plan to do hard-core gaming. A mobile Intel chipset with shared memory (it takes part of your RAM to operate) is usually enough for casual to power users but not for intense 3d games (Fallout, Bioshock, etc.). An Nvidia (or similar) video card with 512Mb to 1Gb of dedicated memory is what you should consider for hard-core gaming.

RAM â Current laptops have a minimum of 3Gb of RAM. But the recommended is to have at least 4Gb.

Expandability â Your laptopâs memory should be expandable beyond 3-4Gb. 8Gb or more of maximum memory expandability should last you a long time.

Operating System â Windows 7 is the latest OS. You should obtain the 64-bit edition. To take advantage of faster and more efficient applications. Also if you decide to expand your RAM later, 64-bit allows expansion beyond 4Gb, whereas 32-bit limits you to a maximum of 3Gb of RAM. Windows Home Premium (32 and 64-bit) is enough for casual to most power users. Windows 7 Ultimate is the choice for hard-core users, but is also much more expensive.

Hard Disk size â The more hard disk space, the more storage will be available for photos, videos, programs and overall data. A hard disk with 250-320Gb is ok for casual use, but 500Gb is kind of the latest trend. Thereâs always the option of buying external storage, but remember that people buy laptops for portability, and you donât want to carry an external drive with you too soon.

Battery life â The most common are the six-cell batteries, which last about 2-3 hours under optimal conditions of use. If you require a longer battery life, you can obtain an 8-12 cell battery, which will give you additional hours of use but will also add bulk to your laptop as they are also larger in size.

Video screen size â They come between 10â to 20â (inches). A larger screen offers the best resolution, but also makes for a larger laptop.

Wireless networking â To make a laptop truly portable, you will need wireless connectivity. The laptop should be capable of connecting to a wireless b/g/n network. Older laptops are only capable of b/g wireless. Obviously, you will also require a wireless router to connect to a wireless network.

DVD/CD/Blu-Ray options (Optical drive) â It should include at least a DVD/RW (read writable) to allow you to play DVD movies, read music and data CDs and create your own data DVDs / CDs. Blu-Ray drives are nice to have but they are pricier obviously.

Webcam availabilityâ A must for those Youtube, Facebook fans, or for anyone who wants to communicate face to face through the Internet.

Your selected laptop may be fast, but consider other external factors that may affect the overall performance:

Internet connection â You may have a super laptop, but it wonât help if you are still using dial-up to browse the Internet.

Older programs â Programs designed for older operating systems may affect your computerâs performance. Look for the latest software upgrades on the Internet.

Too many background programs â The Yahoo, Google, AVG antivirus, Norton toolbars are great, but too many of these types of applications slow your computer down. Be careful and choose only the options that you need when installing new applications to avoid overloading your computerâs memory with unnecessary programs.

Choice between laptops for light gaming?

Okay so both laptops are 400 pounds and I'm looking for the one that will perform best with light gaming the one with more ram but less powerful cpu/gpu or the one with less ram but better cpu/gpu

I'm not looking for a notebook and I asked which of these is better in terms of gaming or something better that can be bought in the uk for about the same price.

lenovo G575 (43833CU) Notebook AMD Dual-Core Processor E-350(1.6GHz) 15.6" 3GB Memory DDR3 1066 320GB HDD 5400rpm DVD±R/RW AMD Radeon HD 6310

I have owned one for over a year now and it's excellent. Good build, Wide screen, full keyboard with numeric keypad (handy) and has enough power to play some decent games (I play World Of Warcraft on it no problem). Price is very reasonable too for it's class.

Here is the full spec and a few reviews... (Ignore the comment about the lid closing - that must be the person's own laptop - mine has never had a problem).

lightest, best looking gaming laptop that isn't alienware?

j

Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a thin light weight 15 inch laptop that is aesthetically pleasing with a good graphics card. Does such a thing exist?? No alienware suggestions please, as they are heavy and look awful!
Thanks very much

Answer
Gaming laptops are always beefy, because they require extra cooling, and more powerful components. Honestly, the only computer I can think of that can game and is thin and light is the 15 in retina MacBook Pro. It has a 650m, which is decent. You might want to wait for a refresh soon though.

intel Core i5-2400 3.10GHz custom gaming pc?

king ging

I would like a pc with this
Intel Core i5-2400 3.10GHz processor
1TB of hard drive space
4GB/8GB of RAM
1024MB graphics card, core clock around 800Mhz and memory clock around 4500Mhz
And a cool case ;D

I would like this to all run on Windows 7 (64 bit)

Can someone 'give me' a set up, like all the parts? Aiming for £450, £500 if you think the extra £50 if it's really worth it,

Cheers :)

Answer
Don't buy Sandy Bridge until it is safe to do so.
There is a huge recall going on because of a chipset flaw.

http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/31/intel-finds-sandy-bridge-chipset-design-flaw-shipments-stopped/

It bears repeating that this is a chipset issue, not a Sandy Bridge processor problem. The chipset--or companion chip to the Sandy Bridge processor--is codenamed "Cougar Point." That's where the flaw resides. Chipsets, generally speaking, are conduits that allow the main processor to communicate with hardware in a PC.

Bottom line: if you are a consumer who's run out and grabbed a high-end laptop or desktop gaming rig in the last few weeks with an Intel quad-core processor billed as Intel's Second Generation Intel Core Processor, then you potentially have a problem.

Affordable gaming laptop?

Christian

Im taking a trip to Croatia, Europe this summer, and I want a new laptop for the trip. I already own a Mac, but I cant play anything im interested on that. I want to be able to run games like Fallout New Vegas and Borderlands. Is there anything in the $1000 price range for me?

Answer
The Lenovo Y510p at Newegg for $1000 has a quad core i7 and GT 750M SLI, which is dual graphics cards working together and 1080p display. The second GT 750M is a module that replaces the DVDRW. There are occassional issues reported with the trackpad, but most gamers use external mice anyway.
You can also go to Lenovo.com to see their weekly specials.
If you are a student, you can google for the student portal small discount.
You might also get a popup in visiting Lenovo.com for a 10% discount on first order by signing up with an email address.
The model similar to the newegg one is $1,199.00 plus tax before any extra discount, but raises DRAM from 8 to 16GB (normally not needed), uses a newer stronger battery, the 8.1 Windows already installed instead of free upgrade at Microsoft.com, and another 16GB in HDD cache. They also did a display upgrade with an anti-glare coating. These things are all nice, but are not major improvements.

The $900 offering is a single GT 755M and DVDRW and there appears to be a delivery delay in the new anti-glare screen model of that.

Gaming capability is here:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html
GT 750M SLI at rank number 43
GT 755M at rank 85
These are strong gaming laptops that generate a lot of heat so a laptop cooling pad is helpful or at least always play on a hard surface. The graphics cards of gaming laptops generally are active plugged into wall power and you probably need an adaptor plug for Croatia wall current.
The GT 750M SLI Reports Borderlands 2 at 75 frames per second on ultra settings.
The GT 755M should play a decent 40 to 45 frames per second on ultra, and that is Borderlands 2.

Fallout New Vegas and Borderlands I should play maximum that the display can handle.
You can enter specs into the CAN I RUN of game debate

if you choose a lower performance cheaper one.

Budget upto 40,000 rs.

Answer
get to a computer shop..
demand them you want
1.intel core i5 processor
2.ram 2gb
3.graphics card 512mb
4.14inch screen..
they will show you some models..
ask them the price..
if you find the price to be less than 40000,ask them to show models with 4gb ram and 1gb graphics card..it wil exceed 40k...choose as your requirements..

you need good 4gb RAM and 1gb graphics card...if you gonna use graphics softwares like photoshop or high end games which are released now..and better dispaly quality..
if you dont have above uses..you can very well get below 40k..ram 2gb graphics card (nvidia) 512mb

Gaming laptop under 700?

Any good gaming laptops from for around 600? Strategy games most of the time don't need as much to run and that's what i'll mostly be playing

Answer
Best gaming laptop for under $700
If you can't find a cheap Lenovo Y570 anywhere, then consider getting an affordable Acer Aspire V3-571G-6602. This Acer also has the NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M graphics card like the Lenovo Z580, but Acer has minimally weaker CPU. Although other specs are slightly worse than Lenovo Y570 and Lenovo IdeaPad Z580, it's still a fast gaming laptop for the price.

Need a gaming laptop for under or at $700?

The main thing I need is a laptop that can run Dawn of War II, and Counter Strike Source, and if those games can run I take it my Civ IV, Defcon, Starcraft and Diablo can run. I am going on a road trip across US this summer so it has to be a laptop. Thanks guys.
I am not running all the games at once, I am looking at tiger direct and finding laptops that can run the games I want, I just need some advice on which one to get.

Answer
There is no such thing as a gaming laptop for under $700. If you want a laptop capable of handling games without having to run everything at ultra low settings, consider the Alienware series. Otherwise stick to desktops. But having said that, the games that you mention here don't really need a high end video card. Any laptop with a mediocre discrete graphics card will get the job done.

Answer
If you mean GTA IV, then you won't find any laptops (or desktops for that matter) that can run it well under $1000 (USD, look up conversions to Euros). You can get a gaming desktop that will run other games well for around $700-$900, but if you want a laptop, start thinking around $1000 and up.

Is MSI a good laptop?

Florian

So i was searching for a normal gaiming pc for normal games(not massive ones).I found this msi gp60 with intel core i5 dual core,750 GB hard drive 8 GB ram ,2x2.50 ghz for 600 euro which would be about 900 $-950$.Should i get it.I have never heard of msi.

Answer
MSI is a well known manufacturer of high quality gaming computer parts. But on a sidenote this laptop does not have a dedicated gpu(most computers under 1000 don't), so gaming performance will not be great. I found you a slightly more expensive option, but is a lot better for your gaming needs. It will run most modern games like titanfall, bf4 on med-high settings at very high framerates(40-60fps). http://www.amazon.com/MSI-GE60-2OE-003US-9S7-16GC11-003-15-6-Inch/dp/B00CU9GKTO/ref=pd_sim_sbs_pc_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=18N6VCQ4PFH0H18N6H6W#productDetails

Dime

I downloaded skyrim and nfs mw 2012 "on my laptop having i5 3210M And Gt650m which according to notebook check game both run on high settings with 35-40 fps but they are giving only 15-25 fps i dont get it :/ and its using the nvidia gpu. plz help

Answer
if you're torrenting something while playing the game yes it will in fact cause your FPS to drop.in some cases significantly.and on older machines you may not even play a game at all while using a torrent (and before people get on my back about torrenting games some sites like Indie Humble Bundle allow you to use torrents to get the installers)

Answer
So you are looking for a second hand one..... for new, you need to spend at least $NZ400. At that price you are getting Intel atom 1.55GHz at best. Not exactly a gaming laptop. check out PriceSpy:- http://pricespy.co.nz/category.php?k=353&o=produkt_pris_inkmoms#prodlista

What is the best gaming laptop for 2011?

Nathan Wal

A lot of people say that Alienwares are the best, however some say you don't get good value for the money you pay for them. I just want to know what to Alienwares lack and what is the best gaming laptop I can get?

Answer
ASUS G74SX-3DE 17.3-Inch Gaming Laptop - Republic of Gamers. The screen looks very good and the 3D looks as good or better than any I have seen. Even older games like Titan Quest IM that were not programmed specifically for this technology look pretty cool with it. I am pretty busy and do not play many games so I can not tell you about more recent games. But with the look of the demo shots that came with it, I would say they should look pretty good.

What is a decent priced Gaming Laptop out on the market? I would like to run Starcraft 2 on Normal Settings. My price range is around 1k. Is Alienware really worth the cost?
To Clarify: I will also be using the laptop for uni so a desktop is out of the question.
Im interested in the Lenovo Z560, is this a decent laptop?

Answer
want to game? GET a desktop!!!!! simple. Alienware laptops are not worth it. IF you really want to game. build your own custom gaming PC. no matter how much you spend for a laptop it will never be a nice gaming platform ...

then get a netbook for uni (200$) and build your cutom gaming desktop for 600-700$ if you build it yourself you will save alot. I built mine for 700$ and on teh market (DELL / alienware) sell it for 1300+) I got a phenom II x6 / 64 SSD / 1 TB 7200 / GTX 470 / 8 GIG of ram DDR3 .. and it was under 750$) oh and a 700WATT PSU.

honestly... who wants to carry around a 17 inch "gaming" laptop? it will be bulky!! and a waste as you can never tinker with it and upgrade as you want.

if you insist then you need one with dedicated graphics not integrated. here is one:

here is another:

very tough to find one with dedicated graphics in that price range.. you should up it to 1500 if you want a decent gaming laptop!!

Im looking to get a new, reasonably priced, gaming laptop. Ive looked at a few and was wondering what someone who knows more about gaming, and computers thought about the Toshiba Satellite X205-SLi5. I know there are better, more powerful, computers for gaming but this one fits in my price range.

Answer
Agree with what warren said. laptops are not good for gaming.

if you seriously consider gaming, 2000 dollars will get you a much better desktop. I have to admit that even the laptops with the most powerful GPU and CPU processors are in the middle end of desktops. Although the Toshiba Satellite X205-SLi5 will be a very good choice, I highly recommend you buying a 2000 dollar desktop and you would be getting a much more powerful set-up.
