I need something cheap. Im not going to buy lots of games for it at all. Im just want to play Guild Wars, (Which I have Guild Wars Platinum) I need a gaming laptop that is cheap. Please please can someone help me out. I would like a name of the laptop and a link to where I can buy it.

Answer
For gaming, you should get one with at least 2 GB Ram and a decent processor. I think the Toshiba Satellite L305-S5921 or eMachine eMD620-5133 would work great for you.

The eMachine can be a good gaming laptop and is quite cheap - $369

There are other laptop deals on the site too. I think the deal is through buy.com and the shipping is free.

What is the best cheap gaming laptop for crysis 3?

Anisur

I want to buy a cheap gaming laptop under 400-500 us.so please give me some gaming laptop model.oh i want to play crysis 3 in medium or low settings.

Answer
Crysis 3 and other games will be played with no disruption in a laptop which has good processor and good memory which means it should have good memory. So by considering both of them Dell Inspiron 15 i15RV is one option for which you can go for and also it is of less than $500. It has technical features which include 3rd Generation Intel Core i5-3337U Processor (3M Cache, up to 2.7 GHz) which is really efficient. It has 4 GB DDR3 and 500 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive of storage. It has 15.6-Inch Screen and Windows 8. Lastly it has 6-cell battery which means you are going to have battery life of almost 3.30 hours.

Comment from an actual user can be really helpful in this regard because it will explain that how it actually performs. Here is a comment from an actual user:

Besides that there are other options as well from which you can decide as well. Here is a list which are popular and best selling:

How do i go about getting a new graphic card for my computer?

Samantha

I've been looking through the other answers, and i can't quite understand what i need to do. I have windows xp, not a laptop and my card is not integrated. Right now, i have some form of an intel card, and it really doesn't make gaming very easy. I don't know how or if i can get something like the NVIDIA GeForce series, because that seems to be what i need. I really am a noob here with this kind of stuff, so can any one help me?

Answer
Chances are your computer has a PCI slot in it. You can install the card there. If you've never opened your computer up though I'd recommend taking it to a local computer shop. I haven't heard good things about the Geek Squad at Best Buy so I'd avoid them if I were you.

If you want to go DIY on this project it's pretty simple to do. Just make sure you ground yourself before touching any of the innards of your machine. When you buy the card the manual usually has pretty easy instructions on how to install it.

Tom's Hardware is a good resource for which is a good gaming graphics card. You can also check Shack News for which card to get. Both of those sites might have a good guide as to which card to buy. You'll probably end up spending around $300 for the card. I think that Nvidia is a good way to go. They seem to have won the war between them and ATi but I haven't looked lately.

What's the best processor/cpu in the intel and amd range?

Hayden

I am NOT asking which is better, but you may tell me your opinion on which is.

What is the best CPU/Processor in the Intel Series? And roughly how much?

What is the best CPU/Processor in the AMD Series? And roughly how much?

The computer I am building is for gaming purposes but also for editing and everyday usage.

It's optional but preferred that you say what the CPU/Processor is capable of as well. Also I would like to do my own research, so what are some good websites to do just that?

Answer
The best consumer Intel CPU is the new Core i7 4770K, which is slightly better than the 3770K.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116901

AMD's best processor is the FX-8350.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113284

Note that for gaming builds, you're better off with a Core i5 instead of a Core i7 because of the substantially lower price.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116899
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115234

Core i5 and i7 perform about identically in games and everday tasks, so you're much better off with a Core i5 and spending anther $100 on your GPU instead. For professional rendering/animation/design programs and video editing, Core i7 is much better than i5 because i7's support hyperthreading. But not for gaming.

AMD's FX processors are excellent for file compression/decompression and live streaming, but they generally trail Intel's Core i5 otherwise. Note that the new Vishera-based Piledriver FX line (FX-4300, FX-6300, FX-8320 and FX-8350) has greatly improved gaming performance compared to the original Bulldozer FX line (FX-4100, FX-6100-FX-8120 and FX-8150)

Review sites like Anandtech, Bit-Tech, Xbitlabs, Tom's Hardware and Techspot are your best resource for getting real performance information about CPUs and GPUs.
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/amd-fx-8120-6100-4100_2.html#sect0
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4083/the-sandy-bridge-review-intel-core-i7-2600k-i5-2500k-core-i3-2100-tested
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106.html
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6396/the-vishera-review-amd-fx8350-fx8320-fx6300-and-fx4300-tested/5

Synthetic benchmarks like the rankings from cpubenchmark.net and videocardbenchmark.net aren't as good. Those only show you which CPUs scored higher on artificial tests, not in real-world usage. Moreover, Passmark scores are heavily weighted in favor of CPUs with a higher core count- basically they multiply a base score by the number of cores a CPU has, which really doesn't reflect how cores are used. In most games it's per-core performance that really matters, since over 70% of game titles aren't coded to utilize more than 2 cores, and the highest-end titles are optimized for 4 cores. A couple of exceptions exist like Crysis 3 and Metro which can actually benefit from 8 cores, but they're very much the exception. In most titles like Battlefield 3, Arma II, Far Cry 3 etc you'll find that 6-core and 8-core processors don't perform any better than a quad-core of the same architecture running at the same clock speed. For editing, additional cores are always good.

Anandtech has a head-to-head comparison link which shows performance in actual applications and games:
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/102?vs=109

However I recommend reading full reviews to get the details on what features each generation of CPUs introduce, and how they compare to the competition.

For laptop/notebook CPUs and GPUs Notebookcheck is a great resource, although it has the same basic limitations as cpubenchmark.net.

how could I get more into soccer?

Amon a boa

The only time that I really follow soccer is during the world cup, But after the South africa one, i have been wanting to get more involved. Can you guys tell me where to watch the leagues ( premier league,BBVA League, and mls) also the national teams ( I tend to follow spain, the usa, portugal and brazil). Thanks

Answer
You can stream the games for free through espn3.com. That's what I did during the World Cup this year when I wasn't at home and had my laptop with me. They also stream the league games and such,

I am thinking of buying myself an Alienware laptop, but!!!?

OK, well I am wanting to buy the "alienware xm920", but you see I live in South Africa, if it gets delivered to South Africa, from the U.S.A will it be able to work in South Africa (we use EU adapters, and our systems runs on PAL & games) Will the alienware laptop still work in South Africa? If not, how do i change it?

Regards

Answer
I would assume that all your have to do is possibly get a "universal power adapter" set so that the plug will match the socket. Most laptops can use 100-240 volts, and 50/60hz. As far as the pal thing you will probably need to just set region that you are in using the region/language settings in control panel. But just to be sure I would get the 1-800 (toll free) number for Dell (they sell the alienware line) and ask before you spend that much money. I was in the US Navy and a lot of us used to take our laptops overseas with us. NOTE: I do know that in windows there was a "limited" number of times that you could change the region before it became a permanent thing and we bought our movies on base so that we didn't have to worry about the PAL format. However, with a "travel valet" power adapter so that we could plug them into the wall they ran fine. Anyway it is probably best to call dell and ask if the cd/dvd drives are different on their overseas models so that they can support PAL if they are then I am sure that they sell European versions of the computer they are an international seller so they must get this question often.

I am fairly certain on the specs I need for a gaming laptop, I'm just asking what company would be the best choice OTHER THAN ALIENWARE (can't afford). For example, Samsung, HP, Sony, Toshiba, Acer, etc.

Thanks
I heard that HP has overheating problems, but that's all I know in regards to advice on what brand to buy from
@Yasin
Thanks for the advice. It does need to be a laptop though, because I'm going to be living in another country in 6 months, otherwise I would have preferred a desktop

Answer
Razr, only kidding.

Acer Tombstone, but don't get a laptop. Get a custom built desktop anything from £50 - £700.00, it will last for life, and provide one of the best computing experiences of your life. Alienware isn't worth it anyway.

I am looking for a fairly cheap gaming computer, and i need to know what company to buy from, and what to buy. i don't really want personal preference i want the facts so i get a good deal for the best price. pleas include what it will cost to ship it with UPS ground to north Dakota.
I am looking for a desktop

Answer
Complete edit since you said you want a desktop instead...

I can't really say what company to buy from, since that is up to personal preferences. However, I can tell you what you should buy.

First of all will be a good graphics card. You can find the rankings here:
http://www.overclock.net/graphics-cards-general/502403-graphics-card-ranking-5th-time-last.html

If you want to keep the price down, any card in the top 100 overall will be fine. To be more future proof, get a card that's in the top 50 overall. Of course, some of the cards on that list are old, but you should be able to match names with a newer card. Also, go to canyourunit to see the requirements of current games that you would like to run. Pick the recommended settings and try to hit at least that when you pick the graphics card.

Get a good CPU. In terms of gaming, extra cores is not as useful as higher clock speeds, for now. So if you can't decide, pick a CPU with a higher clock speed. I prefer Intel CPUs over AMDs because on the higher end cards, Intel wins.

Get good ram, and lots of it. If you are 32 bit, you want to hit 4gb (some will be wasted, but its worth it). If you are running 64 bit, current sweet spot that is affordable is around 8gb. 6gb is ok as well. The ram should be DDR3 or they are ripping you off.

Get a good harddrive. If you want to reduce load times, you might be interested in a solid state drive. Just so you know, these usually cost a lot and have much more limited read/write cycles before it breaks. You can also get a rotating harddisk that goes up to 10000rpm or above. The only issue with these are mechanical wear, but should be much more affordable than the solid state drives.

This should be a good starting point for you. I've listed the things you should focus on in the order of priority, so if you can't decide what to cut to reduce the price, cut the things lower down on the list.

That said, if you don't want to build your own, let me list some pros and cons of some big name companies:
Dell: Customer support is decent especially if you use their online chat function. Their hardware is usually subpar, so for example, they might try to give you 32bit win 7 or ddr2 ram. You should watch out for this. They also don't update their drivers as much as I would like and I've heard they're not too great. If you pick their gaming brand, Alienware, these problems shouldn't exist.

HP: Horrible customer service. Computers should be relatively cheap for the hardware.

Asus, Acer, Sony: Can't tell you too much about these since I haven't used their desktop, only laptops.

Good Luck!

That all said...this looks very promising:

Which laptop is right for me?

CookiesRGo

I need a laptop that is not very expensive, but reliable. I would use it mainly for schoolwork and surfing the web. I would also like something that will play games. I am not a hardcore computer gamer, but I do like playing games fairly often. I would like some suggestions for certain laptops, brands, or just what to look for.

Thanks in advance!
I would go for a with apple or windows. Doesn't matter to me.
Let me rephrase that a little bit.
I would use it mostly for gaming, but I do not play games that are really graphics-intensive.

Answer
Don't get a mac.

Macs are just as vulnerable to viruses as windows are.
Expensive
Compatibility issues
Also security experts predict by 2010 there will be a mac virus outbreak

Go for ASUS laptops. Most have 2 year warranty's and a free 1 year accidental coverage warranty.

Try www.newegg.com if you live in the usa for great deals on all brands including Asus.Asus laptops are gaming ones so they will be perfect for you, even if you don't game much they are still great laptops.

I recommend
ASUS(Amazing)
HP(great)
Gateway(okay)
Toshiba(Okay)
Samsung(great)
Sony(Great
Acer(good)

Don't recommend
Apple/mac
compaq
eMachines
Dell

EDIT 2:I agree cookies are so good.=)

EDIT 3: to respond to Jay.in 3 years a Macbook will be so outdated. Also tell me how a macbook lasts longer than a windows?Only difference is hardware.Considering how apple started switching suppliers to keep prices down it makes me wonder how quality their parts are.At my school we have macbooks and the wrist rests are black. So yeah..i agree the parts apple uses to make laptops are very high quality. As a bonus they let your white macbook change colors.

A core 2 duo in 3 years will be so outdated.Same with a windows laptop that has a core 2 duo.

I want to build a good gaming laptop from scratch with at least 2.2 ghz processor (i think its a processor) and a really good graphics card. i am also an editor and my render times are RIDICULOUS with my current laptop.

Answer
Key word right there "laptop". What you should be asking is how can I build a desktop that will allow me to run any game and flawlessly render video faster than I can edit it. And allow me growth room for future hardware.

Then I would drop a youtube link that will teach you all you would ever need to know about building a killer desktop...
http://www.youtube.com/newegg

As far as what you asking a laptop, you will pay 3 times more for a branded name puter that will never be up to a long time/intense task of making videos.

What kind of graphics card can my laptop be upgraded to?

kleesment

I don't know much about computers but I checked underneath my laptop and there IS a removable graphics card in there. I want to play the new WoW expansion that is coming out soon, but my current graphics card is not good enough to play the game smoothly, even with low settings.
I am wondering what some good laptop graphics cards are out there that I can install into my laptop?
I have a "Dell Inspiron 15" Windows 7 ( is that enough info?)
Thanks!

Answer
No, that is not really enough.

We would need to know the exact model number, not just the family "Inspiron 15".

And how do you know there is a removable graphics adapter? just because there are slots on the bottom does not mean you have a modular adapter unless the card actually says video card.

I just bought the Sims 3 and my laptop isnt up to spec. So it needs the requirements to fit this.
I'm having a look myself but i'm absolutely clueless when it comes to gaming laptops.

best gaming laptops under 30000 image

I'm researching laptops for college and beyond, but I'm a little overwhelmed by all the options. My budget is $1200, and what I've decided so far is I need:
- A PC, not a Mac
- i7 processor
- CD/DVD drive
- USB 3.0 ports
- Windows 8
- 8GB or more RAM
- 750GB or more hard drive
- A decent graphics card (I'm not a serious gamer as far as computers go, but I want to be able to play minecraft or the sims without it lagging.)
- Long battery life (this is super important!)
- Screen no bigger than 16" diagonally
- Not super heavy
What do you recommend I get?

Answer
The features and budget you have mentioned are perfect for getting a good laptop. Asus has one option which is perfect according to your requirements.

Its features include Intel Core i7-3630QM 2.4 GHz Processor and 8 GB DDR3 SDRAM Expandable to 16 GB. It has 1TB 5400 rpm Hard Drive. A 15.6-Inch 1080P Full-HD LED Screen with Nvidia GeForce GT 635M 2GB DDR3 VRAM Graphics. Also it has Windows 8 and Backlit keyboard.

All of these features you are getting in under $1000 which means you can save around $200. Also on its performance side it is perfect as well as one of a customer describes it as a Worth the Dollar. Here is a complete comment for your ease in decision making:

So it is perfect laptop with an affordable price and also it is same as your requirements. But if you want to see other options in the market then here is a list of laptops which are popular and under $1200. This list will help you in making comparison:

Answer
Usually most of the pure gaming laptops are above $1000. But your budget is under $1000 so I would a laptop from Asus which has price of $700 and it has better features which you want.

It has Intel Core i7-3610M 2.7 GHz Processor which is powerful enough for performing tasks and gaming. It has 8 GB DDR3 and 750 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive. A good balanced 15.6-Inch LED Screen with Nvidia GT 610M 2G Graphics. And it has Windows 8. Also it performs really well while playing games as one of customer describes it a heck of deal for gaming. You can see here a complete comment for your help:

How can you improve your internet speed?

best gaming laptops australia image
Q. Hey guys! I am a serious gamer and my KDR is usually average in a match 5 kills to 1 death. But, this is at the internet cafe and i started playing games on my new PC gaming laptop. But...my parents have the worst internet modem and at home, i have a ping of aprox. 400...which sucks.
Can anyone tell me how to improve internet speed and suggest some really fast modems. I live in Australia

Answer
You're doing it wrong. Unless it's a SERIOUSLY old and crappy modem, you need to pay for a faster connection. That's about it.

Where is the cheapest place to buy a decent gaming laptop?

Either Italy, England, Malaysia, USA or Australia? One that can run Crysis 1 and Far Cry 3 on either low, or medium settings.
I wouldnt mind paying too much shipping but i would rather be able to buy it from one of the places i listed.

Answer
I would go with Tiger Direct or Newegg

I am a gamer, and I purchased a laptop in 2011. The laptop however wasn't built for gaming, but it sufficed for the time. Now 2 years later, It is out of date, and I dont have much use for it. I would like to know how much it would go for if i put it online so I can have more money for a nicer computer. Heres the specs that im aware of.

-Windows 7, DirectX 11 also
-Pentium CPU
-2048 MB RAM
-Dell computer
-It also comes with the charger

If somebody would be willing to tell me how much they think it would go for, I would really appreciate it! Thanks.

I want to buy a new gaming laptop for collage.I have this year an 1+ from high school and I am going to go in 2011-2012 in collage. I want a top gaming laptop of 3500-5500$
Will there be a new CPU, Graphic card, Ram that will be much faster then ?

Answer
This is sort of a pointless question.

Of course there will be new CPU's, new GPU's, faster and higher capacity RAM and hard drives. They are in a constant state of change, and new additions to each of those categories come out at least once a year, so you're looking at at least 2 generations better than what we have now.

But you might want to rethink your strategy, as a super powerful gaming laptop is not very portable and it's battery life will suck. And as a college student myself, you are going to want a laptop that you can take where ever you need, easily (both weight and size) and something that wont die in an hour. Come back to Yahoo Answers when you are ready to buy a gaming laptop, as any advice as to parts is pure speculation and will lead you astray.

Does HP make good gaming laptops? (in comparison to other mainstream brands of similar price)?

best gaming laptops comparison image

Anthony

I've never heard of HP when it came to talking about gaming laptops. I was wondering whether HP makes good gaming laptops, and I'm not talking about comparing HP to Alienware or other extremely expensive gaming laptops, but rather in comparison to other companies that make gaming laptops in the below-$1000 range, such as ASUS.

Answer
If I were you, I'd go with the Asus G72Gx ($999). Its the system I'm currently running and its fantastic. Also, it literally has one of the best mobile graphics card on the market. If you want a comparable HP or Dell, you should expect to spend at least twice as much.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+Laptop+with+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B2+Duo+Processor+-+Black/9556125.p?id=1218124208054&skuId=9556125

And to be honest, this computer is comparable to Alienware systems costing over $2500.

Does a laptop battery have to fully charge before turning on?

I just bought an Alienware M17X gaming laptop & the AC adapter that came with the laptop does not let the battery charge, but I'm able to use the laptop with the adapter plugged in to a wall socket. So, I purchased a new AC adapter off of eBay hoping the battery would charge with it. I've tried turning on the laptop with the new AC adapter, but it doesn't turn on. There's power to the AC adapter because I see the green light come on. Do I have to let the battery charge for a certain amount of time before I'm able to turn on the laptop or is the AC adapter not working properly? Please help!

I need a new computer for playing games on, I need some advice?

Paige Alle

Okay, so I've had two laptops in the past. A 2007 Toshiba laptop, which promptly broke within the first month of having it and didn't play a game like the Sims 2 properly. It broke properly in 2010, where it had blue screen of death, screen issues and it wouldn't turn on without the battery.

November 2010, I bought a new Dell Laptop with i3 core processor with Windows 7. I bought it as a quick replacement, but it was £300~ a bit, give or take a hundred. However, it is very fragile. The slightest bump and the screen will go. It's also beginning to FALL APART. The skin it coming away from the frame, the speakers keep blowing and every time the screen goes from the bump, it has to go back to the repair store.

The biggest problem is that I'm a huge hardcore gamer. I own three xboxes, but it would seem for the small amount of PC titles I want to play (Simulation games like Sims 3, Spore and games like Skyrim and Dishonored ) will just NOT play at all. It will run something like Sims 3 for about five minutes before overheating and crashing. I bought a cooling tray for it, but that doesn't seem to help at all.

So, this prompts the question, what do I get as a replacement? Currently saving money in my bank but I'm not sure whether I want a laptop or a desktop. Laptop is more practical because I'm a student and regularly need to take it with me into college and when I visit my father on weekends. Desktop I know is more powerful and the liklihood of it breaking is smaller but it's not portable at all.

Laptop is what I'm looking for, but what kind of graphics card, ram, memory am I looking for it to play something like Skyrim with ease? My brother has a Dell laptop a model BELOW mine and it works perfectly for him, super quick but he has different graphics cards and such since we bought it for gaming.

Any ideas? I'd really appreciate decent comments and I'm not looking to spend £1,000 for a computer. Something around the £300-400 mark for a complete laptop is what I'm looking. I've heard certain models are better but... No idea what I'm looking for.
I can't build my own. I don't have the expertise or money. I'll add to it in the future.

Answer
I've got ASUS G75VW and i play the Sims 3 on it and the games work fine, and I've got this computer over 11 months now. I have skyrim, far cry 3 and other games on it and i work on my computer and the games are working fine and i don't have any problems but the problem is that it's expensive, I'd recommend you this computer but it's your choice.
Hope i helped

How can I go about finding a company, or someone to raise money or donate a computer to someone?

best gaming laptops for the money 2012 on Gaming Pc Builder Online
best gaming laptops for the money 2012 image

Shelby

My husband has Cystic Fibrosis, he is almost 24 years old and he was given about a year left to live in July of 2012.

Since then he has been trying to make a bucket list of sorts, things he wants or needs, or just would like to have before he passes. He has been an avid video gamer all his life due to his illness, he was never really able to go outside and play, and as he grew up it just got worse and worse until he's almost completely bedridden. So he has always found solace and happiness in being able to play video games, mainly PC games. I want to be able to buy him a desktop and a laptop for when he has to be admitted to the hospital, and he has to stay for a minimum of 1 month, usually more. This is the only dream he can realistically achieve due to the severity of his illness at this point. (His lung function is less than 18%, he cannot move around much without getting severely out of breath)

He was offered to make a "wish" to the Dream Foundation a few months back, but after all the hype, they haven't really been responding to him anymore, so we're starting to feel that it's a lost cause with them.

I definitely do not have the money to buy the gaming laptop/desktop that he needs, even if I were to save every extra penny, it would take more than a year and it could be too late by then.

So I would be so grateful if there is any information on any computer companies or the like, or any sort of foundation or fund that would be able to do this for him quickly, and not take 5+ months. We would be able to provide proof of his condition, doctor's letters etc as well.. Thanks

Answer
Contact the Elfin Society of GE. They are constantly donating Computer Equipment
Or contact YOUR Church and have them solicit the Gates Foundation, Game Stop, Best Buy and so on..
Also try your local library. Gate foundation is always donating new ones to libraries and olds ones are given away.

Most reliable laptop brands: the results

Apple tops the list, as might be expected from such a premium PC builder. Apple products are far from cheap, but they do offer a quality experience. Runner up Dell has a very different business model. It, like other high-ranking brands HP and Asus, operates as a volume laptop maker, selling many thousands of laptops every week. We would expect to see them, and Lenovo, high up in our list because they sell so many PCs: but their higher ranking suggests a lot of satisfied customers.

Apple: 19%
Dell: 12%
Asus: 11%
HP: 11%
Acer: 9%
Lenovo: 9%
Toshiba: 9%
Samsung: 7%
Sony: 6%
Alienware: 3%
Fujitsu: 1%
MSI: 1%
Panasonic: 1%
I do not agree with this. But this was the results of a large survey...
