What is the bes laptop for under 700 dollars ?

I'm looking for a very portable laptop either 13 or 15 inch for under 700 dollars Im going to be using it to surf the web and do some video editing and using photo shop so I want it to be really fast and have a long battery life I won't be using it for gaming

Answer
i would go for this one, I am an environmental science major and i use it for some demanding programs. This has an AMD A6 processor and graphics, it is quad core with a 1 gb dedicated Graphics card(up to 4 gb total,3 shared). This also has turbo boost. it normally works at a slow speed, but when a program needs it, it boosts from 1.4 to 2.5 ghz. this saves battery life/power. the speed is more then enough,it will be ok for 5 or 6 years as this is a quad core. it also has a good size hard drive and it is 15 inches. The processor just came out like 3 months ago, it is much better then the intel i5 and much cheaper. This laptop costs 450, I have had it about a week and i love it. The only thing i dont like about it is the screen size, i prefer a 13 inch but everything else is great on it. This laptop technology is brand new, so it isnt like half of the laptops on the market now, 5 or 6 year old technology. so not only is it cheap comparatively( an intel i5 with the same specs would be at least three hundred dollar more) but you dont have to worry about the technology being outdated any time soon.

Gaming Laptop Questions?

TheCanata2

Now it is 2010, and .5 GB Ram and 1-2 GB Ram are looked down upon.
And please don't tell me to get a desktop, YES I KNOW IT's BETTER, but Im not addicted into gaming and its not as convenient.

I want to play games on at least medium graphics like
-Warrock
-StarCraft 2
-Wolf Team
My current laptop is HP 1 gb ram 1.6 GHZ Intel Mobile chipset
dv 4155 cl (hp pavillion)
for some reason this computer SUCKS, it was so good nwhen i got it, now i can't even run the most simple games in lowest graphics and settings (windows xp btw)
it has no viruses, im sure cuz i just backed up, its a BIT faster, but nonetheless
is this staples computer a good one? Remember I just want to be able to play those games up there
without any inconviniences

is the graphic card in that good? if not try to find me a >$1000 LAPTOP please! thanks

Answer
For gaming laptops the best gaming laptop which is known for its functionality and reliability is Alienware, but they are bit expensive.

On other hand I will also suggest that as your budget is $1000 you should give a look at Dell Studio XPS laptops they are also good for gaming purposes too.

Gaming laptop for $500?

phgHunter

What would be the best choice for $500? I know, you can't really get a laptop for $500 that will run a game very well. My little cousin is dead set on it though and I hate to see him waste his money. I almost want to give him a hundred more bucks to put towards a better laptop. So, anything much better for $600? And what would be the best choice for $500? Thanks.

Answer
Hi, i have no idea about laptop for games under $500. But if the price is $600, i know a good gaming laptop.
It is Dell Alienware M11x : * Overclockable Intel® Core Duo SU7300 1.3GHz (3MB Cache), 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 335M, 160GB SATAII 5400RPM HDD, 2GB Dual Channel DDR3 RAM
Its price is $599.

Gaming Performance of the GT 335M is fast enough for all games in 2010. Demanding games like Metro 2033, Battlefield BC2 or Crysis run only in low-medium details fluently. Less demanding games like Call of Duty MW2 or Sims 3 can be played in high detail settings

Which laptop-selling company provides the best customer support?

Nonny

I currently have a Dell and because of my terrible experiences with their customer support, i will not be purchasing my next laptop from them. One of my top priorities in my search for a new laptop is the quality of customer service. I'd appreciate specific examples rather than general statements, if possible. Thanks.

Support ranking (March 2010), from #1 on down:
Apple (score=86); Lenovo (63), Toshiba (60), Dell (56), HP/Compaq (53), Acer/Gateway (39)

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2400797,00.asp

I have also read many reviews that the Genius Bar at the Apple Stores is the most knowledgeable of tech support offered in a retail store setting. However, their Tech Support is not cheap, unless you buy a 3-years Service Agreement from Apple.

If Tech Support is your top concern, you may want to look into a Mac. Apple is the biggest personal computer and have the volume to get the best suppliers. Well. Maybe not the suppliers who are best to their own employees.

If you want to stay with Windows, I'd recommend Lenovo because their Thinkpads are still better made than most. Sony as a corporation has lost a lot of business in TV, music players and game consoles and hasn't really put out anything special in computers.

will the new alienware m17x with the 675m graphics card play skyrim at high res? and other shooting games bf3?

Adam

I was wondering if the new alienware m17x was good enough to play skyrim, bf3 and all other shooting games at high res. Im looking for a portable gaming pc. the graphics card is nvidia 675m and the processor is a 3160qm at around 2.5ghz maybe .1 more or .1 less.

Answer
Yes, sure! The video card, nVidia 675M is the fastest single-GPU laptop graphics card as of March 2012. It should runs Skyrim at Ultra detail setting (FPS= 40.5) also Diablo at Ultra (73.9 FPS), Battlefield 3 at high (54 FPS) and current games as of 2011 should therefore run fluently in Full HD resolution and maximum details.

Budget Gaming Laptop?

Aidan

Hello, I am looking for a budget gaming laptop. Size is irrelevant, though it should be over 10 inches. I want to play games on it, mostly Grand Theft Auto IV and Garry's Mod. I also don't mind running it on the lowest settings, as long as there is absolutely no lag. Battery life also does not matter. I would like it to be no more than $500, but slightly over is fine. And also, I prefer the normal dell setup (Homescreen with icons, taskbar and start menu).
Thanks, Aidan.
I also forgot to mention I prefer new, but I will have no hesitation purchasing a reused one depending on the reliability of the site.

Answer
For gaming the laptop needs at least the Intel i5 or best i7 processor and a discrete graphic card with dedicated graphic memory.
Look at these and the spec's. http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/customlanding.to?page=Gaming_Laptops

what is a good gaming laptop for a low budget?

Ramrod

my budget is $400 im not expecting an amazing laptop, please find me the best i can get for my money.
please include a link

Answer
Acer AS5742Z-4685 is an amazing laptop. Screen is crystal clear and very bright. The top cover and spots where your wrist sit have a nice texture to them making fingerprints and smudges hard to see. The p6100 is a great budget processor. This beats down the similar price athlon II mobile processors and seems to be ahead of the old core 2's in benchmarks. The Battery life seems to be about 3.2hours while browsing the net and working with outlook and word. Keys have a great feel and the way it is designed, you really cant get food or other small objects caught under them. This laptop does have 3 usb, 1 on the left and 2 on the right.

Highly recommended!

Gaming laptop around or under 1,000?

yesyesitsm

They stopped making the upgrade to my 6831fx which has been AWESOME for gaming. I'm looking for something else that will be durable, and last a while. Ideas?

Answer
For gaming laptops, I would really consider Acer: http://www.acer.ca/acer/product.do?link=oln85e.redirect&changedAlts=&kcond48e.c2att101=-1&CRC=2759084358#wrAjaxHistory=0

or if you are willing to spend a little more, Gateway is as good as it gets! (Gateway laptops are made by Ferarri) : http://www.gateway.com/programs/idseries/index.php?cmpid=topnav_computers

The laptops I've mentioned here are just examples of good ones, but the companies both make great laptops in general. Especially for gaming!

Can anyone find a gaming laptop for under $1,000?

solvo

I'm looking for something like...
2.5 ghz dual-core
at least 4gigs of ram
dont really care about HD size
17'' screen or around there with one of the highest resolutions
and a newer video card
If theres no such thing as a laptop like this then i will consider getting an entertainment laptop, but how well are entertainment laptops able to play games compaired to gaming?

GAMING LAPTOP QUESTION?

I want the Alienware M11X what is the framerate per second on the laptop?

Answer
Impossible to answer. The framerate will be different in every game, and within a particular game, different with every combination of settings.
It also will vary with how you configure the laptop (which you haven't given any details about)

The #1 determinant of gaming performance is the GPU. Here are two benchmark sites for mobile GPUs for you to start your research with

ok so we got an
HP Pavilion dv6z Quad:
AMD Quad-Core A8-3530MX Accelerated Processor (2.6GHz/1.9GHz, 4MB L2 Cache
1GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6750M Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
750GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive
$835

VS!

ASUS N53SV-EH72:
2nd generation Intel Core i7-2670QM processor (2.2 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.1 GHz)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M graphics with 1GB DDR3 VRAM and NVIDIA Optimus Technology
6GB DDR3 SDRAM, 2 x SODIMM socket (expandable to 16GB SDRAM)
500GB 7200RPM hard drive
$950

what would better for gaming?

Answer
The 6750M scored a 1,131 on Passmark while the 540M scored a even lower 732. You won't be able to enjoy any game with the 540M and the 6750M isn't all that great either. Go here http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html and look for a card that has M after the number that scores better and find a laptop with that. With that being said, although the HP has the faster GPU, it will GUARANTEED break. I repeat GUARANTEED. Don't believe me google HP reliability and you will see it is the worst computer to possibly get, so I would just get the ASUS if you can't get a better one than those two.

Need help choosing a Gaming Laptop to run skyrim?

Owned F

Hi, im looking to buy a gaming laptop (as im always out and about and need something that is portable) to run skyrim on Ultra or High settings. I've come across two laptops that I really like, but im having a hard time comparing them in terms of performance, in particular the gpu and the cpu. They are http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/computers⦠and http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/computers⦠. My question is, which would be better for gaming (skyrim, crisis 2 etc)and in particular i want to know which has better gpu/cpu. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx :)

Answer
Both of your links take me to the same page, which is not a specific product description for anything. Alienware does make good laptops, but you will be paying an incredible premium for it. If you have 1500 dollars to spend on a laptop go ahead. But you would be better off spending 1,200 on a good gaming desktop and 300 on a laptop. Do you really need to play games when you're not at home? If not, go with a cheap laptop and a good gaming desktop at home. That solves both your problems.

Edit: By the way, it will take 1,500 dollars for a laptop that can max out Skyrim. So if that wasn't your budget then there's no answer.

I am looking for a sub $850 gaming laptop that can run skyrim at its max settings?

I want to get into pc gaming I don't know much about and would prefer to buy the laptop from a known site and I am not really looking into building it. The laptop also needs to work well for school and have at least a 14 inch screen. (I don't have any extra parts like a screen, mouse, keyboard etc.) any help is appreciated thanks.

Answer
COMPLETELY maxing skyrim on a laptop will be dang near impossible. I have a desktop with 2 6850s in crossfire and an overclocked phenom that are faster than any laptop could ever hope to be... yet even at 1360x768, Skyrim STILL gets choppy for me. I have to turn down AA to 4x and shadow quality to high.

On the other end of the spectrum, my $579 HP dv6-6140us will play Skyrim on high settings with a few mods like a champ. Visually, it's hard to tell the difference between high on my laptop and ultra on my desktop (until you install texture mods, of course).

A lenovo Y570 would do the trick. Thier build quality is legendary (which they inherited from IBM), and the speakers, graphics, and screen in the Y570 are great for gaming. You can get the Y470 if you prefer a 14" screen (15.6" and bigger is a pain to lug around).

If you need more horsepower, you'll have to get a 17.3" monster

How do the CPU and GPU in laptops differ from those in desktops?

Q. I am currently a college student and have always preferred a desktop. It also appears that it is possible to get more for your money with a desktop, but I am also wondering what the difference is when an I core 5 or 7 is found in a desktop in comparison to a laptop, as well as the difference in graphics cards...also is this laptop a good deal for the money?

Answer
I will give you some pointers but do your own research,
(1) You don't need the i7 for your needs, because it is a quad core hyper threading processor, and you will never scratch the surface of it's power.

(2) Windows 7 Home Premium was never developed for the i processor
(3) Most of the software you will be using will be 32 bit applications
(4) You will need to buy 64 bit application software in the future

If you must go for the i processor then the i5 is the one to go for, it's cheaper and will do the more than you will ever need to do. Next use an alternative operating that is years a head of MS that have already got the drivers for the i processors and capabilities for hyper threading.

Microsoft will not have these capabilities until the release of windows 8 at the end of this year or sometime in 2012, My advice to you is do your research on the Free Linux kernel (operating system). It is supported and developed by Intel, IBM, AMD, Nvidia, ATI,

Linux runs the worlds fastest HPC (High Powered Computers) It runs it Internet, Check out these web links for your research
http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/newss/7262/1/
Like I said Linux is years ahead of Microsoft's kernel (operating system)

To download the most upto date Linux operating distributions December 2010 and January 2011 then look here

oh you get all the professional application software that you will ever need or want free . including Office applications

What would you like to get as an x-mas gift from your wife/girlfriend? (an item, not something sexual). For $300 or under..

A nice watch? A bicycle for commuting? A remote control car? (Not the toy breakable kind, the kind i've seen some "older" men use at the beach for instance), etc.?

I can't decide what to get my boyfriend of 2 years.. He doesn't really have any hobbies he's really into. All he does is work mostly. He's into technology, but doesn't really have time to use it and he hasn't really invested in any besides a Mac laptop that he uses occasionally.
I said nothing sexual. Are there no mature males here?

Answer
How about any of these to think about for your boyfriend. You don't have to get any of them as a gift IF you don't want to, but it might give you ideas or something comes to mind.

Gaming laptop vs Gaming desktop?

Sean Jones

Hi, I'm wanting to spend around a thousand dollars for a new computer. I'm a high school student, just to let you guys know.
The problem is, I cannot choose between a desktop and a laptop.
I know the pros and cons of both, but the problem is, I am a foreigner, and I go back to my country once or twice every year.
I stay in my country for about a 3 months, and I honestly can't find anything better than gaming to do.

I know that a desktop will provide me a better gaming computer, but I need my computer with me just for that time of the year of traveling.

So what do you guys think? Should I get a desktop with everything better but portability, or a laptop with more price but same specs as the pc?

Do you think I should just pause gaming for a few months, and get a great PC? Or should I just get the laptop for portability, (like I told you, I don't travel a lot, but I travel once or twice for long periods of time)?

Please, could you guys help me choose? I'm really stuck on which one to get, and I haven't gotten my Christmas gift yet.

Thanks :)
Oh yeah, I don't really care much for upgrading, as long as the laptop lasts 2 to 3 years, I'm fine. But it needs to run SC2 and Crysis on Highest settings.

Answer
Well, if you are willing to sacrifice the portability, I would definitely go with the desktop. Even if you get a REALLY advanced, expensive, "so-called" gaming laptop, the games will never EVER run as smoothly or as efficiently. Complex CD-ROM based games (like the Sims 3) run much slower and crash a lot, and Internet games (like WOW) are INCREDIBLY slow even with a perfect Internet connection.

If it's Internet games you're into, then take into account that you won't be able to play them for a few months. Things might change, updates might be put in place, etc. Would that be okay with you?

If you're more into CD-ROM based games, then suck it up and give them up for a few months. They'll be there when you get back. It will just make it so more satisfying when you play them when you get back.

All in all, if you're looking for better gaming experience, I would opt for the desktop. But if you can't live without your internet games for a month or two, and you can deal with the lowered gameplay ALL the time, go for the laptop.

Ultimately, it's your money and your decision.

Gaming PCs: Laptop vs. Desktop?

Mythic

I'll be going to college here pretty soon and I am planning on getting a high end gaming computer and currently have a desktop. I know that desktops are normally much better for gaming, the only con is that you have to buy seperate keyboards and monitors and such and they are a pain to lug around although if i was to get a desktop, i would keep it in my dorm obviously. Say i get a $1500+ gaming laptop and play the crap out of it and running high-end games on ultra settings with max resolution (and i do have a very good laptop cooling pad ) and play new games constantly every day. Will it wear out after a while and burn up the processors easier than a desktop would? Price isn't a problem for me and i know where to get a good pc i just need to know overall which is better, a desktop or a laptop. :p thanks

Answer
Even a gtx680M will NOT max demanding games like BF3, farcry3, etc

If you wish to be maxing current games, you will either need atleast a gtx680MX or 2x gtx670/675M in sli.
That probably isnt going to happen for under $1500.
Also even though that setup may play games out now on max settings, id say in 6months, games released then wont be able to be maxed.

Desktops are always better then laptops for gaming and any other demanding tasks.
To get a good gaming laptop to max games out now, $1800-2200+
To get a good desktop that will max games for probably a year+, $1200-1500

If you are dead set on getting a laptop, i would suggest
http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=category_browse&selected_cat=11

They definitely have the best price/performance. Go with the $1749 one ( http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=product_info&model_name=NP9370 ), and get the dual gtx670MX gpus, and you should be able to max games fairly well. id suggest the thermal compound upgrade aswell, it will help with temps.

Also id suggest getting a SSD+HDD combo (like 120GB SSD + 750GB 7200rpm hdd).
And i believe they are giving a free wifi upgrade aswell, so why not.

8GB of ram is more then enough for gaming in 5years lol. Even hardcore gaming and multitasking at the same time, ive never broke the 4GB mark. so having more then 8 does literally nothing for performance.
and cpu upgrades will only provide marginal performance increases to gaming.

Is it recommended to Play games on Laptops?

Hi there,

I was planning to buy a laptop, I've 2 options in consideration. There prices have a minor difference, specifications are also almost same, but the only thing different is an AMD Radeon HD 7450M (1 GB DDR3 dedicated)

Other Specs are:
Ci5 2.5 Sandy Bridge
640 GB HDD
4GB DDR3 Ram

I was thinking since the prices are almost same, why shouldn't I Buy the one with Dedicated Graphics card, so I can even play games on it, BUT I've a few questions Please answers all.

1). Is it recommended to play games on laptops?

2). Is that correct, that laptops with dedicated graphics card produce a lot of heat & they get more hotter, then other laptops without dedicated graphics card. And when laptop is heated, fans needs to run fast & battery drains so quickly?

3). Will the above specs laptop will be good enough to play games like GTA IV, Resident Evil 6 (Upcoming), Need For Speed Most Wanted 2012 (Upcoming) & Hotman Absolution (Upcoming)?

Thank you so much.
Well, the thing is, laptops are so sleek & smart, they are so sensitive, can they really afford to run hard core games like I mentioned above? And how you recommended to play?

Using Keyboard or I should get a Joystick or something?

Answer
1. your battery may drain a bit faster like a 5 minute difference with dedicated
2. may be a bit hotter but its well worth it if your gaming
3. as long as you treat your laptop well games should work just fine on them as long as u keep quality settings at medium
4. buy an external mouse but the keyboard on the laptop is good
overall.... your good to play games on it

I have questions about gaming laptops?

William

3 questions / opinions.

-Give me a few of your favorite computer gaming brands like Alienware and razer(If the brand is desktop only don't mention because I'm getting a laptop :D).

- What parts I should upgrade like adding more ram. (Only thing I know that makes it faster.) Parts that make a lag free experience for gaming.

- Are there any special parts that make rendering videos on Sony Vegas faster? Thank you

I have questions about gaming laptops?

Answer
Personally, gaming laptops are great, but if you can, get a desktop; they are much better and don't over heat as well. But if you really want or need a gaming laptop here are some suggestions;

There are many companies that are great at making gaming laptops. Here are some that you might want to check out: CyberPowerPC, Malibal, Lenovo, ASUS, Sagernotebook, MSi, PowerPro, Powernotebooks, iBuyPower and OriginPC. I would also compare many of the products available.

You should check out all the parts on the computer. If you really want to get great graphics, check out the graphics processor, the CPU, the hard drive and the motherboard. In computer technology, you really get what you pay for and you rarely find very, very good deals. For better graphics, try to invest in the GTX 600 or 700 series, or the Radeon 7000 series, depending on the games you play (The Crysis series, for example, are good with the ATI 7000 series GPUs). You should check out what games are good with what graphics card. Also, I would not recommend integrated GPUs, such as Intel GPU, since they tend to be less powerful. As for CPU, try to find an Intel i5 or i7 quad-core CPU, preferably from the 3rd or 4th generation series. As for the hard drive, you should get two drives, one that is a hard drive and one that is a solid state drive. For the hard drive, try to find one that is at least 750 GB, preferably 1 TB and at 7200 for a lot of memory and speed. Although the Solid State Drive might be unnecessary, it speeds up the game a bit more and is not as loud as a hard drive, but has less memory and more expensive. If you can't get an SSD, you should get a good hard drive, because SSDs don't have as much memory as a hard drive, unless you plan to play only a few games.as for the motherboard, try to find reviews of the motherboard and see the benchmarks of the motherboard as well. Of course, you should get some good RAM, preferably 8 GB of DDR3 RAM, but the more, the merrier. If you plan on getting more than 16 GB of RAM, you need to get Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate, or Windows 8, since Windows 7 Home Premium can't support too much RAM. I would HIGHLY recommend getting a gaming mouse because trackpads are not good for gaming. Also, you should get a travel bag or backpack for your laptop, since gaming laptops can be pretty heavy. A cooling pad or something similar is recommended because the CPU can get really hot while playing.

As for Sony Vegas, a good CPU and GPU should do the trick, as well as a good amount of RAM.

There you have it. I hope this helps.

I'm looking for a long lasting laptop, mainly for gaming and music.. suggestions?

Ken

I'm looking for a new laptop, my current laptop is an ASUS laptop which was purchased in 2011.. it cost $1300 and it's starting to crap out after only 2 years.. I'm looking for a laptop under $1500 (not from ASUS) that has longetivty and high performance in my price range. I'm also a university student so I need it for word etc. (I'd expect every laptop to have this anyway). Thankyou! Will rate 5 stars for helpful info.

Answer
Microsoft Office is extra software, though laptops generally have Wordpad. Free office suites that are Microsoft compatible are OpenOffice, Kingsoft Office, and LibreOffice

Laptop Reliability:
http://www.rescuecom.com/news-press-releases/computer-reliability-report-2013-Q3.aspx
1. Samsung (694)
2. Apple (259)
3. Lenovo/IBM (250)
4. ASUS (212)
5. Toshiba (69)
6. HP (66)
7. Dell (50)
8. Acer (19)
Asus is normally pretty good. Long lasting laptops generally do not have the strongest graphics because they are the professional models like Lenovo Thinkpads and Dell Vostro
Lenovo Y510p is not bad. Make sure 1080p. It is cheaper
http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y510p/
There are small discounts for students by entering through a student portal or Barnes and Noble Gold (google them)
There are models that replace the optical drive with a second graphics card module in SLI
There have been touchpad issues, but often gamers prefer to use mice anyway.

Graphics card to gaming:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html

Samsung Ativ Book 6 can be bought for $1000 at Microsoft Store and Adorama with a 3rd gen Quad core i7 and HD 8770M which is a little under a GT 750M
It has a finicky touchpad, but otherwise rates well.

A 17" MSI has a powerful AMD Radeon HD 8970M, but CPU a bit weak as A10-5750M
http://www.adorama.com/MSIE007US.html?gclid=CJ3Hl_C4z7sCFYN_QgodMQIAig

It is a top 5 in single graphics card performance in a laptop.
The CPU bottlenecks gaming in high need CPU games like Far Cry 3
http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=883&game=Far+Cry+3&p_make=AMD&p_deriv=APU+A10-5750M+Quad-Core&gc_make=ATI&gc_deriv=Radeon+HD+8970M&ram=8&checkSubmit=#systemRequirements
Also, Battlefield-4, Rome 2 Total War, and any other high CPU need game.
But ones like Battlefield-3 do great

Can a laptop with two graphics cards swap to use for display?

bloodhorde

I have an Asus laptop and when I bought it it had Intel graphics HD 3000 and a NVIDIA Geforce GT 540m. Naturally I would want it to be on the Geforce card but when I right click my desktop and go to screen resolution and advanced settings it shows that my monitor and my laptop screen both are running off the Intel graphics HD card.

Answer
This shows how to add your games to the list in Nvidia Control Panel
Open Nvidia Control Panel by typing it in start/search then click on it.
Click on 'Manage 3D Settings'
http://netbooknetwork.net/2010/force-nvidia-processor-on-specific-programs-for-laptops-with-nvidia-optimus/

When you are not gaming it will use the Intel graphics to save power.
Add your games "exe" to the list and the Nvidia Graphics driver will load automatically when you start the game.

Thanks!

Answer
sorry. You cant change or replace your graphics card because ur graphics adapter dac type is not external. Its internal. So you cant change or upgrade ur graphics. nd there is no way to speed up your gaming performance a bit higher. Dont worry, u have a hd graphics then why r u askin for a upgrade. U should be happy with ur lappie.

How bad of an investment is a gaming laptop compared to a gaming desktop?

Don't knoc

In other words, can an $800 desktop outperform a $2000 laptop or is a $2000 laptop = $2000 desktop? If the previous is true, why don't I just by a cheap notebook and settle for a gaming desktop right?

Anyway, how BAD IS IT REALLY?

Answer
It's quite bad.... A $2000 laptop is about equal to a $1000 desktop, and a $900 laptop is about equal to a $500 desktop. You're losing more value because laptops aren't upgradeable other than RAM.... You can't install a newer, faster graphics card or CPU a year from now whereas on desktops you can. You can't install a better soundcard.

But no matter how much you spend, laptops cannot approach the performance of high-end desktops. Laptop components are weaker than their desktop counterparts, because they're engineered to be physically smaller, consume less power (to extend battery life) and generate less heat- absolute requirements if they're going to fit and work inside a laptop chassis.

If you look at the physical dimensions even $150ish desktop cards like the GTX 460 and Radeon HD 6850, most of the space those cards occupy is heatsink/cooling apparatus. That amount of cooling is required to run GPUs at such high clock speeds. And those cards need a spacious case with good airflow to run without overheating. Then of course you've got the power requirements- there's physically no room inside a laptop chassis for a 500W Corsair power supply. And as you progress to $250 and $350 cards, the need for power and cooling only increases.

On laptops, simple physics greatly reduces the performance of anything you can fit inside. There's no laptop you can buy which remotely approaches a $2000 desktop running dual GPUs in SLI or Crossfire. Even the highest-end laptops are fundamentally built for portability.

Powerfull gaming laptop?

i am looking for a laptop that will run need for speed shift with ease and very smooth on the top detail and that and will run alot of future games with ease thanks i am not gd at loking for stuff as i just pick one that looks good
i dont realy have allot of cash to blow on one just a basi one will do that i can upgrade every part of it

Answer
well i suggest dont get a gaming laptop due to the price low performance specs compared to a desktop because you can get some thing with 2 times more power for the same price and since its a laptop well the cooling will be bad so if you try to overclock it it will fry it and the price is just stupid for something so unstable get a nzxt alpha case and just get some good ish stuff because you can take it to a l.a.n so there sorry for spelling and no puntuaction marks

Best Windows 8 Laptop?

Michael

I am looking to buy a Windows 8 laptop. My budget is $1800 but I prefer not to go that high and would like to stay in the $1500 range. I am going to be doing the regular things on my laptop along with gaming. Here is what I'm looking for in a new laptop:
- Intel i7 Processor
- 8 gb RAM
- Good graphics card (At least NVIDIA GT 640m, more is preferred and 2gb wouldn't hurt :))
- Stylish (I don't want a bulky computer, ultrabook is preferred if possible)
- Good Battery Life (About 4 hours is enough)
- For storage, 500 gb is more than enough

I had been looking at the Dell XPS 15 because it met all my specifications and it was very stylish even though it was a little pricey. However, I read many reports of people having problems so I'm not considering that anymore. Although, if these problems have been fixed by Dell, it would definitely be back in my list.

Answer
There are no gaming ultrabooks, because powerful GPUs like GT 640M cannot be cooled iside such a small chassis. If you want a midrange/high-end GPU with a regular core i7 you have to get a normal laptop.
Take a look at Sony Vaio S : http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SYCTOProcess?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&LBomId=8198552921666495150&categoryId=8198552921644768015
It has all your requirements, looks sleek and on top of it all has a full HD IPS screen !!, IPS screens are very hard to find in Windows laptops. And they look gorgeous.

Can I put a 1gb graphics card in my Macbook Pro?

miles

I would like to upgrade my NVIDIA GeForce GT graphics card with 512mb of discrete memory to something more powerful. I am using a Macbook pro with Windows Vista 64 bit installed, and I would like to play games in higher quality. Does anyone know if that is possible, and are there any recommendations?

Answer
No. Not possible.
1) As with most laptops, the GPU is highly integrated to the main logic board (motherboard for PC users). You can't change it out without breaking the board.

2) For an apple? Drivers would be horrendous for anything aftermarket. Worse than a hackintosh. Even if it were possible, you wouldn't get any support, and the MBPro already gets ridiculously hot.

If you want gaming, get a PC desktop, or spend 4000-5000 on a gaming laptop. ALSO, the new MBPro actually has a pretty powerful graphics chip, relative to what's out there. Most of the 1GB cards you'd find for a desktop are actually quite slow. You usually only get a benefit of the larger video RAM when running 1920 (a little) or more noticeably when running 30" at 2560.

You should do a little homework about video technology before you go tearing apart a 2000-3000 Apple laptop.

Should I install Hackintosh on my laptop when I get my new desktop?

Nick B

I rarely use me laptop for gaming. Thats what my desktop will be for.

This is just a poll, btw.

Never heard of switching graphics or video "cards" in a laptop, as there are none usually. The video chipset is soldered onto the motherboard.

Try disabling almost all background programs and processes you can when doing a game requiring a heavy load on the CPU or graphics.

Most reliable laptop brands: the results

Apple tops the list, as might be expected from such a premium PC builder. Apple products are far from cheap, but they do offer a quality experience. Runner up Dell has a very different business model. It, like other high-ranking brands HP and Asus, operates as a volume laptop maker, selling many thousands of laptops every week. We would expect to see them, and Lenovo, high up in our list because they sell so many PCs: but their higher ranking suggests a lot of satisfied customers.

Apple: 19%
Dell: 12%
Asus: 11%
HP: 11%
Acer: 9%
Lenovo: 9%
Toshiba: 9%
Samsung: 7%
Sony: 6%
Alienware: 3%
Fujitsu: 1%
MSI: 1%

I am going to be frequenting Craigslist to see if i can find a super speedy laptop. I hear the Alienware quad-core laptops have insane speed. Any others?

Answer
Falcon Northwest http://www.falcon-nw.com/

Voodoo http://www.voodoopc.com/

Dell makes a few good gaming PCs as well (They own Alienware now)

Go to a bookstore and browse through the computer mags, especially the PC gaming magazines. There are usually ads for plenty of gaming PC manufacturers.

Just remember, these "built for speed" machines cost a pretty penny.

Can someone recommend me a good router for gaming?

{Newreg

I'm looking around online at reviews and and I can't make up my mind. I wouldn't want to pay over $100 for one and please keep in mind that I am sharing this router at home with my family who have 1 ipad two iphones and another laptop. Currently I have the netgear wndr 3400 and I could not be more upset with it. I can't DMZ my ps3 or portforward. Terrible costumer service and useless as well, I've looked up for days how to fix the strict NAT issue with this router but I could not find a solution. so can anyone help me out on recommending me one?

Answer
Well, if you have the money, and they are legal in your area, I suggest the congro/starita XL3000, Its been shown on PC magazine, and ZD net to have a 30% higher wiggabyte thoughroput.

Hello I'm a student about to go into uni. For that my dad agreed to give my 1000 nzd plus my 1000 nzd to get a laptop
I want to play battlefield 4 and guild wars 2 on it. Right now I'm looking at the msi gx70. The one with a sdd in it. Its priced at 2100 nzd here in new zealand.
What I'm asking is. Is this worth it? my friend said I should just get like a 1000 computer cause he said his 1200nzd computer can run most good games on high. I'm just really confused on should I spent that much on a msi and is it a waste of money?

Answer
you are about to go into uni, what do you want a gaming laptop for anyways???

you will be most likely running from class to class with the laptop in tow. The lighter it will be the better for you.

get a apple mac / mac air. you'll thank me later !!

Btw, your dad is a saint... mine would've put his foot so far up my *** his shoe would be sticking outta my mouth if I asked him to buy me a laptop. At least he paid my uni tuition :D

what should i wear when i fly to beijing?

Q. I'm 15 and its my first time flying.

Im flying from New Zealand to Beijing so its going to take a long time and i'm not sure how long the stop over in singapore will be...

is wearing: skinny jeans or bootlegs, a shirt, hoodie, and sneakers ok?

what should i bring in my carry on bag?

Answer
Laural has it right! Be comfortable. If you sit for a long time at home in jeans do you get uncomfortable after a while? I usually wear a pair of the men's sleep pants, a loose shirt and carry a sweater or sweatshirt. Just look decent but comfortable!

In your purse(or laptop bag) and carry on bag> make sure you DON'T have any nail files, clippers, knives of any kind, scissors, nothing that can be considered a sharp weapon.

You can carry emory boards(soft nail file), pens, pencils, cell phone, handheld games, laptop, portable dvd player, small portable radio/cd player with headphones, etc. Make sure all your liquids(lip gloss, makeup, hand lotions, hand sanitizers, medicines, perfumes, bath products, etc.) are no more than 3 oz and in a plastic quart sized zip bag.

Bring a change or 2 of clothing, medicines, brush, comb, toothbrush, a book to read, or an activity book(word search, etc), homework, movies for the laptop or dvd player.

You can bring gum, candy, and/or snacks with you but if you want to bring a drink or two or a sandwich or other food you will have to buy it after you go thru security before getting on the plane. Which means don't forget the money as you'll probably want to get something to eat or drink at the stop over or even a souvenier.

Don't forget to put a garbage bag or two for dirty clothes in your suitcase. And when you get to where you are going remember to keep the plastic zip bags so you can reuse them on the flight back home.

Have a wonderful flight and enjoy your time in Beijing!

Answer
i am looking for the same but i have not found any good laptop for 40000 rs .

As gaming laptops means more ram , more processing power and a decent gpu.these things come with a price more than our budget.

any way you can visit dell website and see xps edition ,i am leaning towards dell xps m1530 with 256mb dedicated gfx card, but i know that it will play todays games on medium low settings but not newer games cuz its not even a semi decent gpu. but also it depends on which games you play on it, but its definately better than igps of budget laptops.

dont go for compaq, hcl or acer here they dont ofer dedicated gfx cards in here.

dont look in websites much, ask nearby retailers as it depends on area where you live.

increase your budget to atleast 50000 in order to get a low end gaming laptop .
other than dell and hp all are overpriced in my opinion .

Which gaming laptop to buy in India?

senvasn

I want to buy a latest laptop from HP/Dell. My budget is 50000 to 60000. Pls suggest me some models I should go for. Main purpose is gaming.. But I want to be within this budget..

Answer
Hp and Dell DO NOT make good gaming computers. Alienware, or Asus would be the best choice.
Alienware is owned by dell, and they make very nice computers for within your budget.
Asus also makes really nice laptops, and they look AWESOME.
Hope i helped!

I need a good gaming laptop under 500 dollars?

I am looking for a good gaming laptop under 500$. One that could play Garrys Mod, Minecraft and Black Ops with medium to high settings. I will not go over 599$. I am looking for something cheaper.
No Acer aspire 7741z, I have had bad results with it.
Minimum RAM price is 6 GB. I had a computer with 4G ram and it didn't run games fast.
No answers saying "you won't find one that good for so cheap".

Answer
6GB of RAM gives you plenty of breathing room for games, but that doesn't mean anything if it doesn't have a good graphics card. I've never seen a good integrated GPU on CPU's so youll need a dedicated card. just means to make sure it has a GPU. Finally, when shopping punch in the cards model with notebookcheck on google and that has been a wonderful source to find out what your getting with the laptop.
