Cooper

It needs nvidia GeForce 650m graphics or better, a DVD Drive, and 1920x1080 screen resolution. Everything else needs to be of the quality to run games at near high settings

Gaming laptop around or under 1,000?

yesyesitsm

They stopped making the upgrade to my 6831fx which has been AWESOME for gaming. I'm looking for something else that will be durable, and last a while. Ideas?

Answer
For gaming laptops, I would really consider Acer: http://www.acer.ca/acer/product.do?link=oln85e.redirect&changedAlts=&kcond48e.c2att101=-1&CRC=2759084358#wrAjaxHistory=0

or if you are willing to spend a little more, Gateway is as good as it gets! (Gateway laptops are made by Ferarri) : http://www.gateway.com/programs/idseries/index.php?cmpid=topnav_computers

The laptops I've mentioned here are just examples of good ones, but the companies both make great laptops in general. Especially for gaming!

Opinions on alienware laptops?

Flo

I really want one, but I keep getting mixed reviews about it, some say its the best gaming laptop as well as can be used for other things like web browsing, and others completely bash it primarley on the keys and the fan. I heared it was really loud while gaming? I primarley want to use it for gaming, but i dont game THAT much but id like for it to run fast and stuff, and ive been meaning to get a new laptop as i already have a mac, but anyways, opinions on them?

Answer
I have an alienware laptop. Its about 6 years old, and runs like one from 2010! Its amazing. And how much technology has advance since then is alot. But at the same time, if you want it gaming. Its the one for you. I use it alot! And ive never had too have it be worked on.

Recommend a laptop for the clueless?

*Sombra*

We are wanting to replace our fried desktop PC (R.I.P.) with a laptop. Unfortunately we know nothing about laptops and I feel like the more I research the topic, the more confused I get!

I have read and heard good things about HP and Asus. Not so good about Dell. Have heard that Toshiba and Acer are OK but not great. Sony seems overpriced. Never had a Mac, so not particularly interested in that brand.

Am I getting the right information? The salesmen (kids, actually) at Best Buy are gaga for Asus, I suspect because it is considered the best for gaming?

I don't need a gaming computer. I need something for internet browsing, email, etc. In other words, a computer that will get a LOT of daily use by 3 family members, but not HARD use.

What features are most important and worth paying for?
Which brand(s) are considered good?
Which brand(s) to avoid?

Reliability, speed, and value for the $ are my main concerns. Tech support is a consideration too. I'm not locked into a particular price point, but don't want to overspend for features I don't need. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated ... as you can see, I need all the help I can get!

Thanks.

Answer
When buying a laptop, always look for the following specifications:

Processor
Video chipset
RAM
Expandability
Operating System
Hard disk size
Battery life
Video screen size (resolution)
Wireless networking
DVD/CD/Blu-Ray options
Webcam availability

You can find detailed computer specifications directly on the manufacturerâs website (hp.com, Toshiba.com, dell.com, etc.)

Obviously, the deciding factor, all things being equal, is the price, warranty, plus the manufacturerâs and/or sellerâs reputation. User reviews are also useful to gauge how popular or unpopular a laptop is.

Processor â The most current processors as of this writing are the Intel i3, i5 and i7, that just came out around January 2010. The higher the processor number, the faster it is, but also, the more expensive. I3 processors are great for casual to power users. The i5 is kind of the best choice if you also do some gaming and power usage (development, video creation), although the i3 is also great for those too. For hard-core users (developers, gamers and such) the i7 is the best choice.

Video chipset - Regardless of the processor, consider obtaining a video card if you plan to do hard-core gaming. A mobile Intel chipset with shared memory (it takes part of your RAM to operate) is usually enough for casual to power users but not for intense 3d games (Fallout, Bioshock, etc.). An Nvidia (or similar) video card with 512Mb to 1Gb of dedicated memory is what you should consider for hard-core gaming.

RAM â Current laptops have a minimum of 3Gb of RAM. But the recommended is to have at least 4Gb.

Expandability â Your laptopâs memory should be expandable beyond 3-4Gb. 8Gb or more of maximum memory expandability should last you a long time.

Operating System â Windows 7 is the latest OS. You should obtain the 64-bit edition. To take advantage of faster and more efficient applications. Also if you decide to expand your RAM later, 64-bit allows expansion beyond 4Gb, whereas 32-bit limits you to a maximum of 3Gb of RAM. Windows Home Premium (32 and 64-bit) is enough for casual to most power users. Windows 7 Ultimate is the choice for hard-core users, but is also much more expensive.

Hard Disk size â The more hard disk space, the more storage will be available for photos, videos, programs and overall data. A hard disk with 250-320Gb is ok for casual use, but 500Gb is kind of the latest trend. Thereâs always the option of buying external storage, but remember that people buy laptops for portability, and you donât want to carry an external drive with you too soon.

Battery life â The most common are the six-cell batteries, which last about 2-3 hours under optimal conditions of use. If you require a longer battery life, you can obtain an 8-12 cell battery, which will give you additional hours of use but will also add bulk to your laptop as they are also larger in size.

Video screen size â They come between 10â to 20â (inches). A larger screen offers the best resolution, but also makes for a larger laptop.

Wireless networking â To make a laptop truly portable, you will need wireless connectivity. The laptop should be capable of connecting to a wireless b/g/n network. Older laptops are only capable of b/g wireless. Obviously, you will also require a wireless router to connect to a wireless network.

DVD/CD/Blu-Ray options (Optical drive) â It should include at least a DVD/RW (read writable) to allow you to play DVD movies, read music and data CDs and create your own data DVDs / CDs. Blu-Ray drives are nice to have but they are pricier obviously.

Webcam availabilityâ A must for those Youtube, Facebook fans, or for anyone who wants to communicate face to face through the Internet.

Your selected laptop may be fast, but consider other external factors that may affect the overall performance:

Internet connection â You may have a super laptop, but it wonât help if you are still using dial-up to browse the Internet.

Older programs â Programs designed for older operating systems may affect your computerâs performance. Look for the latest software upgrades on the Internet.

Too many background programs â The Yahoo, Google, AVG antivirus, Norton toolbars are great, but too many of these types of applications slow your computer down. Be careful and choose only the options that you need when installing new applications to avoid overloading your computerâs memory with unnecessary programs.

Why do my games STILL lag even with my laptop being brand new with great RAM and hard drive space?

Sem1990

I'm trying to run WoW at maximum graphics with 0 lag, as in 50+ FPS, however when I'm in combat situations or in populated cities it drops to around 20-30. I don't understand this considering how great the machine is, am I doing something wrong? Is there something I can do to fix it?

Don't just say to lower the graphic settings in game... It's a 5 year old game on a brand new fast laptop, it should run perfectly with 50+ FPS minimum. Here is my system information.

Vista Home Premium
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU, P7350 @ 2.00GHz 2.00 GHz
4 GB of Ram
64-bit OS

Video Card - NVIDIA GeForce GTX260M with 2815 MB of total graphics memory

Shouldn't this laptop be running games flawlessly? What am I doing wrong?
Forgot to add- I have 204 GB of free space on a 286 GB Hard Drive.

Answer
Well...

#1 More hard drive space is only half the hard drive battle, the speed of the drive is arguably more important.

#2 Your CPU is rather low end, ESPECIALLY for a gaming rig.

#3 Your GPU totally doesn't match your CPU, and to have only one of them be pretty good and not other other will bring down your total performance.

#4 Battle situations will ALWAY lower your FPS because it takes more out of your system because more is happening on the screen than just running, all systems see FPS drops in action environments.

#5 Doesn't matter how old a game is, matters how well the graphics are rendered.

#6 Your RAM is only 4GB, and probably only DDR2 800MHz/DDR3 1066MHz...most gaming rigs have 6GB of DDR3 1333MHz

20-30 FPS still isn't anything to complain about...if you really want it doing more then you will have to disable/close more background programs, take out services and programs you don't need from booting with your computer, tweak your OS, and run the game at slightly lower settings.

whats the better hard drive for a gaming laptop?

Carl M

im playing on geting a laptop from alien ware and idk what kinda harddrive to get just a single hard drive or a raid 0 or raid 1...i dont know much about raid so plz help and thx

Answer
Raid 1 is for security, don't bother with that. Raid 0 increases speed but you need two identical hard drives. Gaming performance is uneffected by the hard drive, only the initial load up times and save times will be faster. Also, I don't believe you can use raid arrays on laptops. If you can, it's the type of laptop that might as well be a desktop, that gets 10 minutes of battery power.

Is this a good gaming laptop for under 750$?

Brendan

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230798
Its the best i can find

Answer
Acer laptops are really good as well as Toshiba, I highly don;t recommend HP for gaming on it is slow and they make sure that the laptop only lasts two years before it crashes... by applying all these unnecessary apps that Windows 7 already does, therefor taking up more RAM, which you'll need.

I want a gaming laptop that can play things like Dragon age origins, skyrim, world of Warcraft, without lag. What would be a good laptop for those games for under 800$?

Answer
Gaming needs really good speed so you can play games without any delay. The laptop which I think has good processing speed and comes under your budget is Acer Aspire V3-571G-9686. It has a good combination of superior features and also affordable price.

It has Screen Size of1 5.6 inches which is really ideal size to have. The most important is its Processor2.2 GHz Core i7-3615QM which is really fast and efficient and will be helpful in playing games. It RAM6 GB SDRAM and Hard Drive 500 GB SATA. It has Graphics Coprocessor NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M which will give you superior graphics and It has Average Battery Life of 4.5 hours. So overall it is really good laptop.

Look at it for further details:

Gaming laptop suggestions?

Joey

Hi there. It's time to purchase a new computer and I want to buy my first laptop, so I can bring it with me where ever I go. With that said, I've looked at some options from Walmart (and anything is better than my four year old computer). My budget is $300-400. I know it's not much to work with, but I'm not looking to max out my settings in games I play, either.

World of Warcraft is what I play most of the time. Well as other games like Rift, TERA and Aion. I usually only lag when there's a large amount of people, with my current setup that is. For example, if a group consist of twenty to forty players, than I'll have problems. Not so bad that I can't adjust myself, though. If someone would be kind enough to suggestion what I should maybe get, then that would be awesome.

Answer
A gaming laptop with your budget.... my god that seems impossible. But heres the closest thing to possibly being able to play World of Warcraft (on low settings of course). http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-K55N-DB81-15-6-Inch-Laptop-Black/dp/B00COR29XI/ref=br_lf_m_1001058601_1_1_ttl?ie=UTF8&s=pc&pf_rd_p=1636061902&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_i=1001058601&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1YGV66CF987QM8GQC05N#productDetails

Best gaming-laptop for the price?

Hugo

I'm looking for a laptop, preferably an ultrabook. It should be able to hande games like bioshock, dead island and absolutely minecraft without lag. It shouldn't cost more than 7000kr (1000$). I realize it will be hard to find a great laptop for that price, but what is the best thing to focus on when buying a laptop when it's for gaming? Could you recommend a computer? Sorry for cluttery question.

Answer
For a gaming laptop, you will definitely need a machine that has a good processor, graphics card and Memory/RAM as well as your screen resolution (ideal screen resolution for gaming =1920_x_1080). For graphics card, you will want to ensure that your laptop has a dedicated graphics card and not integrated graphics. The two best brands of graphics card are Navida and AMD Radeon.
I personally recommend to you based on your budget, the Lenovo IdeaPad Y500. It is simple an awesome built gaming machine and runs the latest games.
It has the intel i7 processor which is an excellent processor (probably the best available for gaming). It also has the NVIDIA Dual SLI GT650M 2GB graphics card which is very good and will work awesomely with that i7 processor. Memory is very essential to a gaming machine- and this gaming laptop has 8 GB DDR3 which is ideal for gaming. The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 also comes with a 1000 GB hard drive as well as a 1920_x_1080 screen resolution which is excellent.
Comes with built in webcam and microphone as well as wi-fi. Windows 8..
It is sold for $999 >> http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ATANUT4/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00ATANUT4&linkCode=as2&tag=cheonlsto-20

You will just not find a better gaming laptop in that price range. This machine has proven t run all those games you have listed below in addition to crysis 3, COD 3, Skyrim, etc

What would be and good gaming laptop and what would be the price?

Jessica

I'm thinking of buying one and I wanna know how much for a GOOD gaming laptop. I already have $310 saved (It was for a new iPod Touch)
Should I even change my mind? Or stick to a Touch? I have the OLD Shuffle and I want a new iPod but I don't know anymore!
Plz help. Thanks :)
I plan on getting more money...lol

Answer
well ailienware are "overkill" gaming laptops. there laptops are 2-3 thousand dollars and can do way more then you need for games, but if you have allot of money, there great computers. if you have a thousand dollars you could look into there min spec configurments. i think its kinda funny that there computer are so expensive, they offer financing on them. i look at one of there desktop, and fully customized to its max it was 14000$.

a good gaming laptop is gonna be around 800$. for gaming laptops, besides custom laptop makers like ailienware, asus is a great brand. they have great quality computer that are very fast and great at gaming (there one of the only brands that have graphics cards in the laptop). there my favorite laptop brand and have great customer service.

for a gaming laptop, you want at least 2.4ghz dual core processor, 3gb of ram and a good graphics card. if you see "graphics accelerator chip" or "graphics chipset" the computer will be horrible at games and you shouldnt buy it.

heres some good gaming laptops at newegg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220560
as far as gaming laptops go, this is great. it can do almost any game including crysis. its got a very very fast processor, 320 gb of memory and 4gb of ram. with this your set for games, th downside is its 1000$. allitle expensive and the 800$ one below is almost as good.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220564
this one is pretty good at gaming. it can do newer games like sims 3 or gta 4. its 700$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834146585
heres a great deal. its got almost the specs of the first 1000$ laptop, but its only 800$. it has teh same processor 4gb of ram and 320gb, but its smaller and is a tiny bit slower in some other areas. i perosnally would go with this one.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834107032
here i tried to find you the cheapest one i could, its ok and can do some games, mabey gta 4, and probebly sims 3, no crysis or super high graphics games.

Good laptop that plays battlefeild minecraft call of duty games and some other good games?

Answer
Good gaming laptop needs to have strong processor with good short term memory and combination of both makes a good performing laptop. As you have mentioned about different games which you want to play so by seeing those I would recommend you to see Acer aspire v3-571g which has good specs in terms technicality and also it can play all of the games as well which you have mentioned.

It has good specs which includes:

It has Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor - 2.4 GHz (6 MB Cache) which is perfect processor for gaming and other tasks.
It also has good memory which is 6 GB DDR3 RAM which helps you in performing multitasking real fast.
They both are important for for the overall performance of the laptop. And in this laptop they both are really good.

Other features are also nice which includes:

It has 500 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive for storage of data files
It has 15.6-Inch Screen with NVIDIA GeForce GT 730M
Windows 8
4.5-hour of long battery life

So it is a good combination of good technical features and good performance. For your further help in deciding here is a comment which an actual user has given which you can see and decide for yourself:

Answer
Those specs would be sufficient to play BF3 but i suggest dont play it on HIGH details so your laptop wont fry due to the heat. and please dont overclock it. laptops are not capable of handling the additional heat created by an overclocked processor.

also go get a laptop cooler your laptop will be getting very hot. :) Goodluck on playing BF3.

Gaming Lab Top Under 1000$?

David Robi

I am looking for a gaming lab top under 1000$. I do not play games like Battlefield, but I want something that can at least play Sim games. It has to be a Windows 8 computer and can't make a lot of noise. When answering you might have to simplify it a little. Can't be a Mac.
BTW under 1000$ does not mean 999$
Did I really misspell Laptop -.-
I'm smarter than that I SWEAR
I would vote Alex for best answer but I need to be level 2
Question Solved
Thanks internet

Answer
Good Gaming laptop needs to have strong technical capability to play games. I have one in my mind from Acer which is really good for gaming and other tasks. You'll be interested on this actual user review, which explains its superior value to the gaming:

http://www.amazon.com/review/RJ8XL43GR46WP/ref=cm_cr_pr_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00AVYPPHI&linkCode=&nodeID=&tag=daieom-20

You can see its technical features which includes Intel Core i5-3230M 2.6 GHz (3 MB Cache) and 6 GB DDR3 RAM for playing games efficiently. It has 750 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive for storage. It has 17.3-Inch Screen with NVIDIA GeForce GT 730M. It has Windows 8 and 4-hour battery life. And has the price of under $700. So overall it is a good one from both technical and performance aspect. But if you want to see other options in the market then see the list here for most popular laptops under the price of $1000:

Can This Laptop run Arma 3?

Gavin

Ok Im alredy thinking about what to get for Christmas 6 months away I know weird but I wanted a gamer laptop. I wanted one that could play Arma 3. Could this run Arma 3-->> http://www.techradar.com/us/reviews/pc-mac/laptops-portable-pcs/laptops-and-netbooks/scan-3xs-graphite-lg5-1111369/review The Graphite LG5 is an ultra-portable gaming laptop that weighs just 1.8kg thanks to its compact dimensions. The high resolution 11.6in screen is fed by a powerful 2GB Nvidia GeForce GT 650M graphics card, accompanied by a range of Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors, plus your choice of SSD or hard disk, making the Graphite LG5 the ultimate in mobile gaming. Thanks In advance
Everyone I dont have the laptop I wanted to buy it so I cant go to Site Can you run it LOL

Answer
A much better option would be the PCSpecialist Optimus V 13. What it is, is essentially the successor to the model you're looking at. Still made by Clevo, and intended to be their highly portable gaming-oriented system, just sold by a different reseller and branded differently. And a tad different of an overall system. It's also not priced significantly higher.

The key points that make this the better option are the significantly better GPU and significantly better display.

The GPU in the Optimus V 13 is the NVIDIA GTX 765M GDDR5, whereas the one in the model you're looking at is the GT 650M GDDR3. Even without the faster GDDR5 memory of this laptop's GPU, you'd still be looking at a substantial increase in the amount of games you'll be able to run on decent settings, and in the settings under which you'll be able to run games.

The Optimus V's 13.3" 1920x1080 display is in a whole different class than the 11.6" 1366x768 display in the laptop you're looking at. Not only does the resolution itself let you fit a lot more onscreen, the actual quality of the two LCD panels is worlds apart. The 11.6" 1366x768 display is a low-grade LCD panel with very poor image quality due to low contrast (which means grayish blacks and washed out colors), while the Optimus V 13's display has excellent contrast (deep blacks) as well as a high color gamut (for saturated colors) and wide viewing angles (tilting your display back doesn't invert the image).

http://pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/optimusV-13/
- I would suggest changing the memory to 4GB (you can put more in later if you need to, but 4GB should be fine. 2GB is on the low side for a 64-bit OS)
- HDD: I'd go for one of the 7200RPM drives. The 500GB or 750GB if you don't know which one to pick.

New laptop has Windows 8. We bought laptop for Minecraft but W8 doesn't support it?

Michelle

We bought a new laptop on a special deal over Thanksgiving. It is an HP Envy and runs Windows 8. We know nothing about computers (keep this in mind). Our old computer was too old and would not run Minecraft (not even a demo version). We specifically bought the laptop for Minecraft (and iTune). What do we do? Do we return the laptop and find one with Windows 7 on it? Is there a way to put Windows 7 on our new laptop and get rid of Windows 8 altogether? Our old laptop is XP and we just want that back haha So recap, we just want to be able to run Minecraft. Help?!
Dominic, what about Windows 8 not supporting Minecraft? Everywhere I read they talk about Minecraft not working correctly, shutting down after a few minutes, etc on Windows 8.

We bought a card at Target for Minecraft and that is how we were going to download it.
Is that how you put Minecraft on your desktop?

honestly, I'm still trying to figure out how to shut the computer down without having a "tool bar".
I don't understand the touchscreen laptop and Minecraft apparently doesn't work with touchscreen computers? CONFUSED!

Answer
Minecraft works fine on Windows 8. Heck, I was just playing Minecraft on my Windows 8 desktop before I saw your question.

Make sure to install Java from http://www.java.com

Download Minecraft and run it. Report back with any error messages.

Edit: Yeah, people upgrading to Windows 8 often find that Windows has installed a basic driver instead of the latest driver for their video card. Thus they can't run Minecraft because the basic driver doesn't have OpenGL support which is something Minecraft needs to work. So updating the driver fixes that problem.

Your new PC won't have that issue because you'll have a driver installed by the manufacturer. It won't be the basic driver used by Microsoft.

I can't really say anything about the restart issue. There are so many factors involved in a PC that can cause a sudden restart. It could be that it overheated. Laptops are built pretty tight and they can overheat if they're in an already warm environment. It could be a driver related issue that causes the PC to reset. It might be something entirely unrelated such as a program crashing in the background and taking down the PC.

Just because your laptop has a touch screen doesn't mean you have to use it exclusively. Input methods have evolved over time. The first computers only had a bank of switches and lights. As they matured we got keyboards, mice, track/touch pads, and touch screens. A new input method doesn't necessarily make an old one obsolete.

Touch is good for somethings but not everything. I suggest playing Minecraft using the keyboard and track/touch pad or a mouse if you have one.

Yup, you you can use your Minecraft card to get the game running on your computer.

The whole shut down thing has confused a lot of people. The fastest way to shut down a Windows 8 computer is to press the power button instead of going though those menus. Laptops are sometimes configured to go to sleep instead of shut down when you push the power button but you can totally change that.

Put your pointer in the bottom left corner of the screen and right click. From the quick access menu, click power options. Then click the link on the left side that says "Choose what the power buttons do." Look to where it says "When I press the power button:" and make sure it's set to shut down instead of sleep.

Now you can use the power button to turn your computer on and off. It's a lot simpler than navigating menus. It's also more logical than the old way of clicking Start to stop. :-)

Here's a link of useful tip that helped me get acclimated to Windows 8. I hope they help you as well.

gaming laptop!!!?

Philosophi

hi. im interested in buying a laptop for pc games. i dont want a flashy one, because im not willing to shell out 1000 bucks for one. im looking for a laptop that will support the minimum requirements for games like call of duty4, halo, etc.
im looking to spend around 400-500 bucks
thanks

Answer
no way....or maybe a used decent gaming laptop would cost more, I would suggest buying parts and build a gaming pc like every month save and buy 1 part cause high end parts are pretty expensive, a good graphics card will cost u $200 to $300 bucks, then the sli enabled quad core motherboards also cost $200... dell xps series notebooks are ok for gaming but they start from £890 dunno maybe thats $1600?

Affordable gaming laptop.?

Scott

I'm looking to buy a gaming laptop and have around $1000 to spend. Any recommendations? I'd be playing Skyrim, blizzard, and steam games.

Thanks.

Answer
Blizzard games have fairly decent requirements, Skyrim is a little heavy, and steam games vary a lot. Skyrim is the main concern here. If you want to run on high or ultra settings, good luck finding a laptop below 1k. Medium-high, you might need to spend a bit more but not a whole lot more. Low-medium, you're in luck. The Acer Aspire Timelinex for one can play it in native resolution 768p on medium settings (no AA or stuff like that). Look for the 4830TG on amazon, it should be 730 bucks.

Here are other examples having similar specs to the 4830TG, varying prices:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215261

Search for anything with an i5 i7 processor with graphics card (Radeon 56xxM or higher, 6550M or higher 6xxxM; or the Geforce 540M or higher 5xxM, 630M or higher 6xxM)

Need a gaming laptop for under or at $700?

The main thing I need is a laptop that can run Dawn of War II, and Counter Strike Source, and if those games can run I take it my Civ IV, Defcon, Starcraft and Diablo can run. I am going on a road trip across US this summer so it has to be a laptop. Thanks guys.
I am not running all the games at once, I am looking at tiger direct and finding laptops that can run the games I want, I just need some advice on which one to get.

Answer
There is no such thing as a gaming laptop for under $700. If you want a laptop capable of handling games without having to run everything at ultra low settings, consider the Alienware series. Otherwise stick to desktops. But having said that, the games that you mention here don't really need a high end video card. Any laptop with a mediocre discrete graphics card will get the job done.

Looking for a good gaming laptop, at an affordable price?

Tiff

I'm planning on asking for a laptop for christmas, and wanted to start shopping around now. My family pc is not very good at running games, it can barely run the sims on lowest settings. I'm going to be using my laptop to play alot of games, and so, I need something thats going to run most games on atleast medium settings preferably. Games such as Dragon Age Origins, The Witcher, Crysis, etc, are the types of games that I am looking to play.

No set budget is in mind in terms of price, but around 6 or 7 hundred dollars would be ideal. What are some good gaming laptops around that price?

Thanks so much :)

Customize this to a 5650 and the Dual-core 2.5 or 2.8 Ghx cpu. More cores are useless. Included with this laptop is a nice 4 GB of memory however this is a special offer I think.

It'll be 750 bucks for the 2.5 and 780 for the 2.8 This laptop should be able to handle most games and low-medium or medium-high settings. If you're mainly playing crysis don't go cheaper than this.

If you dont want to spend that much then:

http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do;HHOJSID=VpJJMC2hQw2yW0r7Zp3dlL9rV41LgJYprXcyN32shtMt11NzY3yH!1315784150?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&a1=Category&v1=Everyday+computing&series_name=CQ62Z_series&jumpid=in_R329_prodexp/hhoslp/psg/notebooks/Everyday_computing/CQ62Z_series

Customize it to a 2.8 Ghz and a Radeon 545v and 3-4 GB of memory. The 3GB config is 614 bucks and the 4GB 664 bucks. This laptop can handle most games at low-medium settings. Crysis is playable.

HP laptops have awesome performance and quality with an excpetioanally low price. Check Sony if you want.

Laptop shuts down when playing video games?

Ghostofmet

I have a Dell Inspiron and it keeps shutting down when I play on Steam. I've had this laptop since the end of May 2013 and I've had no problems with Steam before but as of November it started to shut down when I'm playing games on Steam ( mainly Saints Row ) I've did a scan on it and i have no viruses and everything is updated, what can I do?

I have windows 8 and 4.00 GB of RAM.
I'm 15 and I bought the Dell with my own money, it was the only thing I could afford, if I had enough money I would of bought a better laptop.....or just built my own PC.

Answer
you can test your laptops capability to run any game you want to test at http://systemrequirementslab.com/cyri

but please don't try to force your laptop to play something that it will struggle to play

otherwise all that money you've invested will just disappear

Yes I know you did what you could with the money you had and you want to play games... I understand that but listen to an old wise man.. don't destroy what you've got - go tap on your friends shoulder and ask to use his desktop gaming rig

Which laptops are good for gaming?

Reatanks

I am buying a new laptop around November and I am wondering what good gaming laptops to buy. I also want it to have class 1 video cards ( go to notebookcheck.net). The laptop should have Windows 7, 6-8g of mem, around 500gb of storage, 14-16 inch, and ya.
It can be 17in maybe im not sure yet.

And i kind of dont want an alienware. I was going to buy some people had some issues so im afraid i might have some issues to. If u believe other wise, feel free to post

Most reliable laptop and tablet brands: the results

Apple tops the list, as might be expected from such a premium PC builder. Apple products are far from cheap, but they do offer a quality experience. Runner up Dell has a very different business model. It, like other high-ranking brands HP and Asus, operates as a volume laptop maker, selling many thousands of laptops and tablets every week. We would expect to see them, and Lenovo, high up in our list because they sell so many units: but their higher ranking suggests a lot of satisfied customers.

Apple: 19%
Dell: 12%
Asus: 11%
HP: 11%
Acer: 9%
Lenovo: 9%
Toshiba: 9%
Samsung: 7%
Sony: 6%
Alienware: 3%
Fujitsu: 1%
MSI: 1%
Panasonic: 1%
I do not agree with this. But this was the results of a large survey...

Hard Drive needs to be check for consistency?

adrian

I got that message saying my c drive needs to be checked for consistency. I followed some internet steps to fix it. However, even though the message is gone, the error seems to still be there. I can't launch VLC player, some computer games, photoshop, etc. They just don't launch and some crash instantly. For example, google chrome will say there is a problem causing google chrome to stop working.

What do I do? I'm using windows 7 laptop with an SSD.
Also, scanning the C drive, the scan results could not be completed for a lot of files because " the device is not ready" . What is going on here? :S
OK things are getting worse. Now remote procedure call has failed and I can't access the drive at all. Only Skype and Firefox seem to be the unaffected program. Help, what do I do???

Probably there are viruses in your system. Download Kaspersky Antivirus 2013, install it and launch a full scan:

Answer
You're looking for an affordable, not so big, yet best in performance gaming laptop?
LOOK NO FURTHER.
Like me, get the MSI GT680R 15.6"-full HD GAMING NOTEBOOK which comes with the 2nd Generation Core i7 Processor 2630QM, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB Hard Disk Drive (2 x 500GB 7200rpm SATA HDD) & a powerful Class 1, 1.5GB NVIDIA GTX460M DDR5 dedicated graphics card that can handle DirectX 11 enhancing the 3D detail effects from FRYS.com (SKU#: 6547393).
I was free for the day so I hung around the store and got to use the laptop first hand.
I came back to check out the laptop every hour for 6 hrs and found out that the air from the vent of the laptop remained cool compared to any other laptops on display there, meaning this laptop has proper heat management, that means this laptop can handle long hours of gruelling play. Now, I'm all stewed up saving to buy this b4 Blizzard releases Diablo 3.
The MSI GT680R 15.6" Gaming Notebook w/ the Intel® Core⢠i-7 retails for $1,499.99 (+ tax & other sur-charges). I chose to pay more to have the newest technology so that I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT GETTING OUTDATED WITHIN THE NEXT 11 YRS.
click here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152239
Are you a game enthusiasts playing for long hours? Get a COOLER MASTER U2 Notebook Cooler w/c has dual purposes. Cool thing about it is that you can position the fans on the right spot for better ventialation. When travelling, detach the easily detacheable dual fan, & you can use the aluminum frame as a protection for your laptop's LCD screen when inside the bag. I got mine from MicroCenter.com for 48% cheaper than the regular $24.99 tag (FRYS.com SKU#: 6344931).
click here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834997730

If you're a lil' bit low on budget, get the next best thing. The msi GE620-021 15.6" Gaming Notebook also features a 2nd Generation Intel Core i7 Processor 2630QM & 8GB DDR3 RAM, just 640GB HDD, but only a Class 2, 1GB NVIDIA GT540M dedicated graphics card that can also handle DirectX 11 effects from FRYS.com (SKU#: 6539123).
The ASUS N53SV-XR1 for $949.99 sounds 150dollars cheaper, but comes with only 4GB of memory.

Core i-3, better than Core 2 Duo
Core i-5, better than Core i-3
Core i-7, better than Core i-5

Just remember these: The 1st thing you should look for on the computer surface is A LOGO STICKER for NVIDIA or ATI MOBILITY RADEON just below the keyboard. This SHOWS that the laptop has A DEDICATED GRAPHICS CARD (for AutoCAD & Adobe Photoshop). Diablo III, the game I would love most to play runs on 3D graphics & is rumored to need at least 1GB GRAPHICS MEMORY (lower graphics memory = CHEAPER laptop price),
so always check the system requirement specs on the game's box (ex. SIMS 3; see if your laptop meets all the requirements).
Gamers, make sure the GRAPHICS CARD on the laptop IS ONLY from the HIGH END or MIDRANGE.

Next important aspect is the RAM (memory). If you're in designing & you need to run applications like AutoCAD or softwares for editing photos & videos, just make sure that the laptop has AT LEAST 2GB DDR2 RAM modules in it (HIGHER IS BETTER; DDR3 & DDR5 are faster & newer types of memory modules that came out).
But what makes a computer really run fast? It is it's processor! So if you really want your processor to have computing prowess & you're able to run different applications simultaneously, make sure it's AS EFFICIENT AS an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor (Centrino 2 is a Core 2 Duo featuring power saving capabilities; Quad Core is for gaming fanatics). A Core 2 Duo is like having 2 motors running the computer each independent of the other w/c means for a Quad Core, it's like 4 motors are running the machine (that means it will run faster & more efficient even if its frequency is lower to that of a Core 2 Duo). Intel: Core 2 Duo, Centrino 2, Quad Core, Core i-3, Core i-5 & Core i-7 are all very much faster & better than an Intel: DUAL CORE, PENTIUM, CELERON, ATOM & their more affordable AMD counterparts. Just make sure you have AT LEAST 2GHz of speed on your processor.
The HDD (Hard Disc Drive) should be at least 320GB.
The average laptop LCD screen size is 15.4". If you want something smaller than that w/ these facts I just shed some light on, expect the price to go higher (ex. for 13.3" & 14.1" LCD screens).

FYI: I always tell my customers, a laptop's battery is similar to a cell phone's. You charge it when it's depleted & you unplug the adapter when it is already fully charge (this will prevent the battery from getting overcharged & extend the life of the battery). So for less hassle, I always advice my customers to just remove the battery if they plan to use the computer for long hours straight (more than 1 hour) and just run it on AC power alone so as not to overcharge it & shorten the battery life.

Buying advice

Apple makes a good quality laptop. The problem comes when it requires service or minor upgrades. It is near impossible to do anything with them. They even glue the battery and hard drive down so you can not change it. They solder the ram to the logic board so you can not increase it. They lock up most of the software so your stuck with what they approve.

Lenovo has serious stand behind their product problems. They bought IBM PC division and proceeded to drive the quality of the system into the ground. Their customer service is well below par. They even makes Dell customer service look good. The last and final thing to remember about them is they are a Chinese Government own company. It is up to you if you want to trust them.

Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony should be avoided because of their heavy modification of Windows and the drivers. If you remove some of the bloat they install, you can cripple the system.

Acer, Gateway, and eMachines should be avoided period. Low end system that are driving the race to the bottom.

Dell once made a good system and fell from grace. They are now struggling to regain their place in the market. Customer service is one of many problems with this company.

Alienware are glorified Dells and are more name then product. Priced extremely high for what you get. They do perform but you can get the same for less by looking around, just not packaged to be eye candy to the gamers.

Samsung has a history of using cheap parts in critical areas. Capacitors has been one area Samsung has a known history of going cheap, causing units to fail early. For that reason I would avoid them.

ASUS and HP do not modify Windows as bad as the other manufacturers. They have excellent build quality. They might add a lot of bloat but they also makes it easy to get rid of it.

Ultrabooks are the higher end of Wintel laptops but they have some of the same concerns as Apple. They make it next to impossible to change any hardware in them. Service of them will have to be done by the manufacturers. With most of them, you can not change your own battery or hard drive. They are designed to catch your eye but they are not any more special then other laptops except for the fact that they are slim or thin. Your paying for it being thin and slim. For the money your going to spend on it you can buy a much better laptop with more power.

Tablets are just toys to me. They can not handle the work load like Laptops and Desktops and do not have the storage capacity you will end up needing.

Hybrids are the worse of the worse. The flip or detachable touch screens are just a disaster waiting to happen.

Never buy an All In One. They are far worst then laptops of any kind to service and they have a higher failure rate. My experience with them are limited because the few I worked on made me think they were designed in such a way as it would take a blow torch and a jack hammer just to disassemble them.

Choose wisely.

List of good gaming laptops?

Raul

Hey,

Could anybody send me like a list of good gaming laptops of now?

Going to college and I'm not planning on getting a desktop. So please don't start whining about laptops being horrible gaming machines- I don't care :D

Just suggest some laptops (and add links!) that you personally like or of which you heard a lot of.

Thanks!
Raul.
-would want to add that I'll be in the UK, so I would best want to order notebooks from within the UK :d -

Answer
There are plenty of sites that have good gaming laptops, here's a few:

Best Buy has a Gateway FX laptop that is a really good deal:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9172511&type=product&id=1218043606827

Or you could find one from newegg.com, they have a good variety of price ranges and products, way too many to get specific:
http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=32&name=Laptops-Notebooks

Or ibuypower lets you get a little more customized to what you want, its prices are also fair and as a company, it is very reliable:
http://www.ibuypower.com/mall/notebook.asp

Alienware in the past was a dominant breed of gaming laptops, but nowadays, after getting bought out by Dell, they are very overpriced.

budget gaming laptop?

John

I want to buy a new laptop.
I'll use it to play games like skyrim or crysis2 and a little photo editing.(and browsing th web etc.)

I have found those ones: TURBO-X (a reliable greek company)
-intel core i3 2350(upgradeable to i5,i7)
-RAM 4GB
-gpu nvidia GT540m 2GB with optimus(no option of 1GB for less money)
-HDD 500GB(5400rpm)
-1366 x 768 15,6" LCD screen for 570 euros and with an i5 2450 for 610 euros

HP Pavilion dv7-6010 ev
which has an -i3 2310
-4GB RAM
-AMD Radeon HD 6770M
-320GB HDD(7200rpm)
-1600 x 900 17,3" LED screen for 670 euros
I only have 590-600 euros max to spend right now. So,will the 540m be enough for demanding games for the next 2-3 years even in low setts or will I have to save up to get the 6770? any other more pricey package or good gpu in that price rage?

Thanks in advance!

Answer
For "all games on at least low settings", my guidance of a minimum is GT 555M at G3D rating of 1000. Lenovo Ideapad Y570 in the US is about US$700 but in Europe is VAT and also less competitiveness between companies.
You need this slow server web site with the very data intense page that will freeze sometimes, but worth waiting for the detail:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html
There are checkmarks and restrict button and game selection to see approximate gaming on laptops as long as not CPU gated. You need game-debate.com for the CPU needs of each game and match up to passmark and G3D ratings:
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php
To understand what works, you need laptop details and some web research and the tables and charts of what people have to offer you, plus your own learning of specifications and comparing things. Graphics is far more important than CPU, but you do need minimum levels of CPUs and that is why you need to look them up. A-series AMD needs web searching for the graphics sometimes. Also note that lower resolution x768 screens allow for faster gameplay and you don't get much from the pixel density of a higher resolution in a small screen. The GT 540M is insufficient at G3D 723, and you can check detail at notebookcheck. HP I don't particularly like
http://www.pcworld.com/article/244419/laptop_reliability_and_satisfaction_macbooks_rule.html
Average in the table is alphabetical and above and below is ranked. HP is low rated quality-reliability-service. Don't know about your custom greek turbo-x.
6770M meets the requirements with G3D 1357. Ivy Bridge CPUs are due out along with new graphics. The older ones may drop in price.

Make sure you have at least 4GB RAM, and up to 8GB since a system with discrete GPU can use up to 8 including its own dedicated RAM. If you had details of offerings, I could see which is best, but otherwise I give you already here what you need to look.

Low-mid budget gaming laptop?

Hiroshi

Now I know most of you will say If I want something for gaming I should go with a desktop, but I'd like to play not only in my room but when going to lan partys with my friends, I'm not going to be playing games at ultram probably at high, games like wow, dota2 and bf3. The brands I'm thinking of are Sony vaio, HP, Asus, Samsung or Lenovo. Budget between 600$-900$ and please could you say if they are reliable and can play such games with that budget? Thanks a lot

Answer
There are two primary components that you will want to focus on: The GPU (for gaming) and the display (in general).

The GPU is the primary determining factor of game performance. Marketing will try to convince you to be worried about all sorts of things (CPU, RAM, etc.) but the GPU tends to be the bottleneck for game performance before other performance-related components make their way into relevance for concern. Most computers come with more than enough in the areas of CPU, RAM, etc.

The display is key in that you want to make a point to avoid displays such as 15.6" 1366x768, 17.3" 1600x900, etc. when it is reasonable to do so. Displays these sizes, with these resolutions respectively, make things onscreen large, don't let you fit much onscreen for the size of the display, and tend to be low-grade LCD panels with very poor image quality due to things like low contrast. Look for things like 15.6" 1920x1080, 17.3" 1920x1080, etc. Displays like these are great in that they let you fit a lot onscreen, and in that they tend to be good quality LCD panels with good color/contrast. But it's not just about how good displays like this are, it's also about how poor the other class of display is.

------------

That said, here's a handful of options that do well on both fronts:

**Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 650M SLI** (NVIDIA GT 650M Dual/SLI, 15.6" 1920x1080 glossy display) - **$899**
- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834312438
- Note: No power-saving NVIDIA Optimus (switchable graphics). But its larger-than-average-capacity battery often makes up for that.
- Note: SLI models of the Y500 have no optical drive. Second GPU takes its place. Basically the best game performance you can get for the price though, in a lot of cases.

**Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 750M** (NVIDIA GT 750M, 15.6" 1920x1080 glossy display) - **$809**
- Sign up and sign in here: http://shoplenovo.i2.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/na/StdAffinityPortal/en_US/Lenovo:EnterStdAffinity?affinity=barnesnoblegold (Barnes and Noble Gold discount page)
- Take this model: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/barnesnoblegold/StdAffinityPortal/en_US/config.workflow:ConfigureMtmAsItem?mtm-item=:000001C9:0000C50A:&category-id=5B0116E237099FA0FCA012D9B20ED2FB
- Click the activate coupon button in the cart.
- Note: No power-saving NVIDIA Optimus (switchable graphics). But its larger-than-average-capacity battery often makes up for that.
- Avoid any variants/models that come with the 1366x768 display instead of the 1920x1080 display.

**MSI GE60** (NVIDIA GT 650M, 15.6" 1920x1080 matte display) - **$899**
- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152388
- Note: Only 5.3 lbs. Light for a 15.6-incher

Mostly what i would use it for would be playing games, watching movies, and things like that. I don't know a lot about computers so if you can also explain to me what i should look for when buying one that would be great.

Answer
There are some good laptops on Amazon under 300 that you can check http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_p_n_feature_two_brow_2?rh=n%3A172282%2Cn%3A541966%2Cn%3A565108%2Ck%3Alaptop%2Cp_36%3A10000-30000%2Cp_n_feature_eighteen_browse-bin%3A6819965011%2Cp_n_condition-type%3A2224371011%2Cp_72%3A1248879011%2Cp_n_feature_two_browse-bin%3A562241011|562240011|610553011&tag=dp13-20&sort=price&keywords=laptop&ie=UTF8&qid=1390514038&rnid=562234011 to make your decision.
Some are really good and have on sale for limited time like Asus X200CA-HCL1104G 11.6 inch Touch Screen Laptop. It has 4 GB Ram and 320 Hard drive and best for downloading movies, music and laying games. I like HP Pavilion 10-e010nr more at that price. But the decision is yours.

What are the best gaming laptops?

Vickleberr

I want to buy a gaming laptop but a lot of them are really expensive. I want the price range to be less than $1,500. I don't want it to be too big or too heavy because I want to be able to carry it around so maybe around 14 inches or so for the size. I also don't want to use it only for gaming. I want to do a little bit of work on it but I still want the focus to be on gaming.

Please list a few suggestions as well as the link and price for the laptop. I live in Melbourne, Australia so please make sure that I'll be able to purchase it either online or in a store located in Melbourne.

Answer
Alienware has Good gaming laptops but they are Very Over-Priced. You can Look on Notebookcheck.Net and look up the video card of any laptop you find to see if it ccan play the games you have :). but I have a lenovo Laptop. and its Good. But there Are better. Look into ASUS. Or really any computer with RAM above 4GB. a i5 or i7 intel processer. and a Nvidia or ATI video card. and DO NOT GET AMD! Its old and outdated. Intel is whats In.

Recommendations for a gaming laptop (hopefully under 1000)?

Mike

I'm looking to buy a new laptop, which will primarily be used for playing vidya and browsing the internet etc.
The only requirements it needs is to be Windows 7, be capable of running new games on high or highest quality and the website obviously needs to ship to Australia.
Can anyone suggest any trustworthy brands/websites?

Answer
Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p is the top choice of gaming laptops available under $1000

This model has 4th generation Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB RAM, 1TB hard drive + 8GB SSD & Dual NVIDIA GeForce GT750M Discrete Graphics card

Open graphic card specs at http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-750M-SLI.91280.0.html
and scroll down to 'Game Benchmarks'. You can see it plays modern games like Borderlands 2, CoD: Black Ops 2, GRID 2, Guild Wars 2, etc at high to ultra settings

what is the best gaming laptop for under $600?

Ace Jackso

im looking for a cpu under 600, and idk if i can find one for cheap that will be able to run games like Crysis and Battlefield.

Answer
You just want it to run? Or do you want it to be playable? Because a $600 laptop won't make either of those games playable. Not even on the lowest settings.

You could most certainly build a desktop PC for $600 that could play those two on low settings, but a laptop is out of the question I'm afraid.

what is the best gaming and household laptop that is cheap under 600?

i really need a gaming and household laptop for my family but i cant afford an expensive one. please help me!

Answer
dont listen to the ignorant people above...
you can definitely get a good laptop for gaming for around $600... (ive seen an i5+nvidia gt730m for $629 before)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215663
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215974

are 2 pretty decent laptops that will be able to play all games, including crysis3 on low settings just fine at 30+ fps (the newest and most demanding games may require you to drop resolution below 1366x768 to keep above 30 fps tho)

If you increase your budget alittle more, you can get much better laptops
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834312431
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834314004
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215660

the i5 is far better then the a8/a10 in cpu performance, and the gt635m is a decent step up from a 7670m.

the nvidia gt730m is in between a gt640m and gt645m in performance, but the other one has an i7 cpu, so its hard to say which is better.
These 2 laptops would play all games on like med settings at 1366x768 or 1600x900 resolution or better.

these are about the specs you want to look for
CPU: core i3/i5 or amd A8/A10
gpu: amd 7670m/7730m/8730m or nvidia gt635m/640m/645m/730m

ram and hdd capacity dont matter as much, since 4GB of ram is more then enough, and also ram is easily replacable. hdd they will all likely be 5400rpm which are slow anyway, and if anything upgrade to a 7200rpm later when you can, as the hdd is also easily upgradable.

they will be on laptops in the $500-700 range, just look around you never know what kind of sales/deals you may find.

Best gaming laptop for under $800?

Vivi

I need a gaming laptop that's as good as i can get for up to $800, no higher. It can not be a dell, gateway, or hp. The screen has to be 15 inches or more. A webcam is preferred but not required.

Can anyone give me some suggestions?
Ps - No, i cant build one myself.
I know 800 isn't alot to work with but its not my money and i'm not the one buying it so i cant complain.

Answer
The best gaming laptops are alot more than 800 but come with great hardware, there may be ok laptops for 999 or so,but you have to understand hardware is expensive a gtx 580 gpu goes for 1000 bucks alone on ebay even good amd 69 series arent cheap. If you want to see alot of eye candy 800 wont do it..A good ssd around 300 to 500.You say no dell or gateway, the asus g51 is a great laptop you may find reman or on sale in your range. My laptop has a 2960 cpu and dual gtx 580s its far from overkill as games get more demanding.I play battlefield3 mostly max.But next year mine could be middle of the road.I would ck outlets and sales.Good luck,a true gaming laptop with at least a gtx 560m to 580gtx with core i7 good ram etc is more than 800.Cheapest good gamer Ive seen was about 1200 on sale an asus.Maybe soon prices will drop as newer tech arrives.

Best Laptop for gaming under 800$?

Answer
For the most affordable, not so big, yet best in performance gaming laptop,
LOOK NO FURTHER.
I got the chance to use the laptop first hand at the FRYS store. I came back to check out the laptop every hour for 6 hrs & found out that the air from the vent of the laptop remained cool compared to any other laptops on display there, meaning this laptop has proper heat management, that means this laptop can handle long hours of gruelling play. Now, I'm all stewed up saving to buy this b4 Blizzard releases Diablo 3.
The MSI GT680R 15.6" Gaming Notebook w/ the Intel® Core⢠i-7 retails for $1,499.99 (+ tax & other sur-charges; www.FRYS.com). I chose to pay more to have the newest technology so that I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT GETTING OUTDATED WITHIN THE NEXT 11 YRS.
click here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152239

If you're a lil' bit low on budget, get the next best thing. The msi GE620-021 15.6" Gaming Notebook which also has a 2nd Generation Intel Core i7 Processor 2630QM & 8GB DDR3 RAM, just 640GB HDD, but only a Class 2, 1GB NVIDIA GT540M dedicated graphics card that can also handle DirectX 11 effects from FRYS.com (SKU#: 6539123).
The ASUS N53SV-XR1 is $150 cheaper, but comes w/ ONLY 4GB of memory.

watch the video: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834997730
Playing for long hours? Get a COOLER MASTER U2 Notebook Cooler w/c has dual purposes. Cool thing about it is, you can position the fans on the right spot for better ventialation. When travelling, detach the easily detacheable dual fan, then use the aluminum frame as a protection for your laptop's screen when inside the bag. I got mine from MicroCenter.com for $15, 48% cheaper than the regular $25 tag (FRYS.com SKU#: 6344931).
click to buy: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0317850

My suggestion, just save up your money for now & then when you have saved up, on Black Friday or for Christmas buy one that you wont need to upgrade in the long run.
