Cheapest Laptop with backlit keyboard?

DA BOMB

I Hopefully want to spend less than $500 but I definitely need backlit keyboard. I would probably have a standard/base model. I am upgrading from a 10 year old Dell laptop, so I don't need those new features.

Answer
I have good news and bad news.

First the bad. Back-lit keyboards (decent ones that don't crap out after a few months) are generally only built into gaming grade laptops. This means it's wildly unlikely you'll find one under 500 dollars that is of decent quality or is even real (Think credit card scam).

But now the good news. So because of this you need to find a gaming grade laptop. Lucky for you it's well known among PC Hardware enthusiasts and PC gamers (I consider myself both) that the Alienware M11x has by far one of the best price to performance ratio and yes has a back-lit keyboard (of excellent build quality). The base model will cost you at least 800 dollars but Dell has really shaped up in the past few years (Also you should be aware Alienware customers are treated like royalty compared to the normal Dell customer) and they offer pretty decent payment plans. The totally base model is a VERY nice laptop that will cost you $800 or $24 a month.

What you should be aware of:

1. The speed of your new laptop might shock you considering your using a 10 year old Dell at this point but you will love it. I guarantee it.

2. Right now there is a 200 dollar instant rebate/discount on all M11x models but IT EXPIRES ON JANUARY 16th. I just want to make sure your aware of this because after that the base price goes back to $1000.

3. Don't worry about the color of the back lighting. It can be changed to many different colors.

4. As your friendly yahoo answers computer geek it is my duty to inform you that the $800 base model is great BUT you should note that the $950 model gives you double the hard drive capacity (you can put twice as much stuff on your computer) and the speed of the hard drive is significantly better. Not to mention the processor is newer/faster. What all of this comes down to: $950 model will be more useful for longer. Also if you decide to use the payment plan it's only a $5 increase per month.

5. Don't let the site intimidate you with all the benchmarks, performance tests, etc. With Alienware (and computers in general) you will get what you pay for.

6. This laptops small, fast, light, and has great battery life.

7. If you do buy this laptop I will be jealous :)

If you do buy one of these laptops:

Dell try's to confuse you with stuff you don't need/want. It's great for gamers but for your purpose the following options are the only ones you need when customizing your system.

1. You will be greeted with a screen that basically asks if you want your computer to be black or silver. Choose.

2. Next, disregard all the other options in the performance section. Anything you change here will tack on about another 200 dollars. Look above and go to the personalization tab. Look through each section here. You'll probably want to deselect the preinstalled games. The name plate is a nice permanent place to provide contact information. You can also change the default keyboard color but it can also be changed once you get it so don't worry about it. The OS customization isn't important just leave it as it is or select some wall papers you like. You can skip the gear store.

3. If you don't want to spend more money than skip directly to the checkout tab. Everything else will just cost you more money.

Finished!

I hope this helps. I'm sorry there really aren't a lot of good options for back-lit keyboards on laptops but this really is a great price/value. I have no doubt you'll love this.

Which gaming laptops under $1000 have backlit keyboards?

Black Keyb

I was looking for a good gaming laptop under 1k but most seem to not feature backlit keyboards. This is one feature I really really need. Does anyone know of any such gaming laptops? Only the even more expensive ones seem to have it. Thanks.
I've tried building it on Cyberpower pc, I can't get that feature under 1k. Same for Ibuypower but it is even less value than Cyberpower pc. Maybe some other gaming laptop brands??

Answer
I would go to custom builders, there are some good ones out there.

I used cyberpowerpc, but there are a lot of better ones. Make sure to read lots of reviews!

A lot of people say that they are not worth it, but it really depends on the case. I game a lot, but I also travel very frequently so having a lappy made sense. It was a great investment for ME as I could not take my beautiful (PINK! :D) gaming rig with me.

<3 good luck.

A best gaming laptop for 500-900 dollars?

Nawzad T

i want it to handle game like
bf3
gta
cod...etc
and maybe future games because for me this is alot of money

Answer
Not going to happen for that price

In order to get good performance on a laptop you need to shell out over $1200 or so, however if you spent $800-900 on a desktop then you could get a powerful gaming desktop from ibuypower or something.

Where can i find a gaming laptop for around 900 dollars?

STARBUCKS

I just want to get some ideas and look around before i buy.

Answer
You should get a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092. It's great for gaming! I have one, and I love it. I would highly recommend it.

Gaming laptop around or under 1,000?

yesyesitsm

They stopped making the upgrade to my 6831fx which has been AWESOME for gaming. I'm looking for something else that will be durable, and last a while. Ideas?

Answer
For gaming laptops, I would really consider Acer: http://www.acer.ca/acer/product.do?link=oln85e.redirect&changedAlts=&kcond48e.c2att101=-1&CRC=2759084358#wrAjaxHistory=0

or if you are willing to spend a little more, Gateway is as good as it gets! (Gateway laptops are made by Ferarri) : http://www.gateway.com/programs/idseries/index.php?cmpid=topnav_computers

The laptops I've mentioned here are just examples of good ones, but the companies both make great laptops in general. Especially for gaming!

Can anyone find a gaming laptop for under $1,000?

solvo

I'm looking for something like...
2.5 ghz dual-core
at least 4gigs of ram
dont really care about HD size
17'' screen or around there with one of the highest resolutions
and a newer video card
If theres no such thing as a laptop like this then i will consider getting an entertainment laptop, but how well are entertainment laptops able to play games compaired to gaming?

Will all PS3 games turn 3d in 2010?

Will I need to buy the games again or will there be an update. Will the update cost £££ and will it work on the old PS3 not just the slim

Answer
At the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show, Sony showed off PlayStation 3 games running in 3D (See below) at its booth on the expo floor. Though attendants stressed that the footage was for demonstration purposes only, it did show Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and MotorStorm running in three full dimensions on a large HDTV. (Like with the 3D movies currently being screened in theaters, special glasses were required to view it.)

WipeOut HD in 3D...without the glasses.

Now, Sony has confirmed that the first HDTVs to support PS3 3D gaming will likely hit the market next year. Last week at the IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung, or International Radio Exhibition) in Berlin, Sony reps told GameSpot sibling site CNET that the company is aiming to bring a PS3-compatible 3D Bravia HDTV into full production by the end of 2010.

To further tease the possibilities of the technology, Sony set up the prototype unit with a PS3 on the IFA show floor, showing off existing games, like WipeOut HD, being played in 3D. Company reps said the technology on display was built into the HDTV itself, meaning it would work with preexisting PS3 games and consoles.

However, more importantly for gamers, Sony reps said the company is aiming to integrate the 3D technology into the PS3 hardware itself starting in 2011 and 2012. If that plan comes to fruition, those PS3s could turn any HDTV into a 3D display without any modification. The company said similar plans are under way for Blu-ray players and VAIO laptops.

short answer, they will have an update for all ps3s for this technology

and i dont know what to get my spending limit is $1,400 im thinking of getting the higher reselution do i need anything eles?
i dont need anymore help i bought a dell E1705 with a nvidia GEforce go 7900 graphics card and toons of other stuff

Answer
Ok, for a gaming rig, i advise you get a desktop.

A laptop will only play the latest and greatest games for about the next year or 2 if you're lucky.

DirectX10 is on the verge of debuting "nextGen" games, so next year, your laptop will not be able to play games very well.

But, if you must...

You will need AT LEAST!!!:
the Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz processor
Vista Home PREMIUM - (basic wont play much)
2 GB of high frequency RAM
the ATI X1900 video accelerator

That ups the price quite a bit.

Gaming laptop for 1000$?

Leesin

Hey, guys so i am looking to upgrade my laptop since there were some games on steam that ive really been wanting to play for a while and i bought 2~3 games on sale. The problem is i cant play them at all. My computer is way too old and cant hand minecraft or league of legends, and those are really non intensive games. Anyways i have a low budget of 1000$~, Please keep it as close to 1000$ as you possibly can. I have heard good things about lenovo,Asus and MSI. If you were to get me one of these brands ill be even happier, but the problem is im not sure if they are good brands, so please stick to whatever you think will be the best bang for my buck. The main games im playing right now are minecraft, league of legends and i do want to be able to play Bf4 when it comes out and some other games that will come out. If you really can not find a laptop that will run these games in medium~high settings try a little bit higher but only if it is really worth it. Thanks a lot guys i appreciate it.
Ps. I am going to get a lot of hate for trying to game on a laptop so let me get it straight. I need it to be mobile because i use it for school. So i absolutley can not get a desktop since i need to take notes in class with my laptop. Again thanks for everything

Answer
You know i'm referring you to lenovo. In my personal opinion they are the best out there. I have owned dell, acer, hp and lenovo. By far lenovo is the best out there. You have the right idea and have heard the right things about lenovo. They are a magnificent brand. Lenovo has what you need, the y510p it's an excellent machine, ( http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y510p/ ) i would reccomend it over any other brand. I know it is $999.00 right on the verge of $1,000 but i think it is worth the extra doe $$$$. Lenovo also has a desktop gaming desktops, like alienware except there called Lenovo erazer and they have one button overclock, here is the link to them, ( http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/desktops/erazer/x-series/ ) I think the smart choice would be to get lenovo there excellent, that's why i own 3 lenovo laptops and a tablet.

+Around 1000$
+Disk drive
+Built in web cam

Those are just things that whould be better than not having it so if they are missing one of the features
or two.If you have any suggestions just answer the question

Answer
Sager sells gaming laptops. They're not as flashy as Alienwares, but they're a better deal.

Here's a couple of tips, though.

After 6GB of RAM, you won't get a boost in gaming performance. It's not worth getting any more than that, and even 4GB is enough to play 90% of modern games. Unless your working with video editing and encoding, large images in Photoshop, or big projects in CAD applications like Blender, you don't need more than 8GB. Also remember that you can always buy more RAM and upgrade it yourself, which is super easy :)

A hard drive can also be upgraded. You can always change this later, so don't pay too much more for a bigger hard drive.

What you want to look for is an i5 processor. An i3 will work well for most games, but an i5 is best. I don't suggest getting i7 processors in a laptop because they get very hot, and and i5 is enough for gaming anyway.

You'll want to look for dedicated graphics as well, or an AMD APU. An AMD A6 or A8 APU will be fine for most gaming, but the best gaming performance comes in the NVIDIA GTX cards.

If you have any questions, you can email me at whowantscake@lavabit.com.

Good luck! :)

is this a good Laptop for Gaming?

xXGRiMXx

I would get a desktop but i already have a desktop and its a gaming laptop that was $879.99 and i don't want to pay that again. i know laptops cost more then Desktops because many reasons, but i need a laptop below a $500 limit. Really all i want to know is if the processor is a good one for gaming. And also i need it under a $500 limit cause i will also be buying a graphics card for a laptop in witch i have none. i have Desktop graphics cards. Okay well i have many questions actually.

Question 1, Do you know a place where i can get what im asking for. (Cheap Gaming Laptops)
Question 2, Is that a fine laptop for gaming? (Im going to put a graphics card in it)
Question 3, Can i get a better deal?

Answer
Put a graphics card on a laptop??
If you're at the store looking at the display laptops, the 1st thing you should look for on the computer surface is A LOGO STICKER FOR NVIDIA OR ATI MOBILITY RADEON just below the keyboard. This SHOWS that the laptop has A DEDICATED GRAPHICS CARD. Diablo III, the game I would love most to play is said to run on 3D graphics & is rumored to need at least 1GB (if you're a little into gaming like myself) graphics memory (a lower graphics memory = CHEAPER laptop price), so always check the system requirement specs of the game's packaging (ex. SIMS 3; see if your laptop meets all the requirements).
Next important aspect is the RAM (memory). If you're in designing & you need to ran applications like AutoCAD 2007 or softwares used for editing photos and videos, you have to make sure that the laptop has AT LEAST 2GB DDR2 memory modules in it (the more, the better; DDR3 the fastest and newest type of memory modules that came out last October).
But what makes a computer really run fast? It is it's processor! So if you really want your processor to have computing prowess & for you to be able to run different applications simultaneously, make sure it's AS EFFICIENT AS an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor (Centrino 2 is a Core 2 Duo that features power saving capabilities; Quad Core is for gaming fanatics). A Core 2 Duo is like having 2 motors running your machine each independent of the other w/c means for a Quad Core, it's like 4 motors are running the machine (that means it will run faster & more efficient even if its frequency is lower to that of a Core 2 Duo). Intel: Core 2 Duo, Centrino 2, Quad Core & Core i-7 (Core i-5 for desktops only as of now) are all very much faster and better than an Intel: ATOM, CELERON & PENTIUM (and their more affordable AMD counterparts). Just make sure that you have AT LEAST 2GHz of speed on your processor. For my computer, I chose an Intel® Core⢠i7-720QM Processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB; newest type just came out this Nov) w/c is just the right stuff for the applications I use & games I play.
The average laptop LCD screen size is 15.4". If you want something smaller than that w/ these 3 features I just shed some light on, expect the price to go higher (ex. for 13.3" & 14.1" LCD screens).
The HDD (Hard Disc Drive) should have at least 320GB {I would have loved it if my HP came w/ 2 HDD bays like a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6979: 1st one for a 128GB SSD (Solid State Drive) & a 500GB (72000rpm) 2nd HDD}.
If you've thought of a small, portable and affordable laptop, the new Sony CW13FX/B Jet Black glossy notebook went on sale @ Fry's about 3 weeks ago (for only $699.99). I checked out the price they had in other stores, and Fry's was cheaper by about $200 {go to Fry's Electronics (www.Fry's.com) then type in this # 6029078 (or 6029138 for white & 6029108 for pink) in the search box under Notebooks/Tablets before you click on GO}. After the sale, the price went up by $100, so we are waiting for it to go on sale again after Thanksgiving. Let's say you are on 9th grade.. when buying a computer, you have to consider if you will still be able to use the one you bought for college? For this particular Sony model, I would assure you, you can still use it for college as long as you take good care of it & not break it (for the technology installed on this computer will not be outdated & still be good in 10 years to come, but this is just an example). There are a lot of good brand of computers out there Toshiba, Dell, HP and ACER (w/c owns Asus & Gateway; has affordable computers w/ the newest technology installed), you just need to look for the ones on sale (try display computers on Clearance Sale inside stores like Micro Center, Best Buy and Office Depot). Try http://www.newegg.com/ look for Pavilion dv6-1362nr (sale @ $649.99).
Microsoft Office is an office productivity software (so you would need to buy the retail version after the 60-day Free Trial Version that comes with all brand new computers expires, to be able to use the Word, Excel and Power Point applications). Retail version is about $159, but you can get a discounted price of $99 w/ a configured Dell laptop (www.dell.com).
MacBooks, that is on a totally different aspect for Apple has their own OS (Operating System) unlike the common Windows OS (XP, Vista and THE NEWEST WINDOWS 7) that most computers come with.
For the best prices, go to Fry's, CostCo, MicroCenter and BestBuy's web sites for updates & comparison. There are a lot of options and different combinations you can try in customizing your own laptop, just STICK TO THE BARE ESSENTIALS first (www.HP.com). The 15.6" HP laptop I customized and had configured with the Intel® Core⢠i-7 came to a total amount of $1,455.80 ($136 tax + other sur-charges already included). I chose to pay more to have the newest technology installed so that I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT GETTING OUTDATED WITHIN THE NEXT 11 YRS.

Good Gaming Laptops Under 500-600 Euros ?

Dragon

Hi, im looking for a good gaming laptop under 500, 600 euros... Mainly because if I were to go on long journey or such I could play games on the laptop. I dont know any good brands or anything... Thanks

Answer
I don't usually work with Euros, but Lenovo's Y series has always been a cheap and reliable gaming laptop. I am not sure about their new graphics cards, but those in their previous model, the y580, could run every game on the market at medium settings.

Here are some links to the prices. Now, I know they are in german, but it is only because I don't know of any website domains for countries that speak english and use euros (England uses pounds). So here we have the lenovo y500 and y580. Both are over your budget, but practically any laptop with a discrete graphics card (required for gaming at above minimum settings. Intel graphics are not discrete because they are built into the CPU) will. The y500 comes with an HD 7670, which I guess is passable but is nowhere near the performance of the gtx 660M found in the y580.

Personally, I own an MSI gaming laptop and am perfectly happy with it. I only paid a little over $1000 US dollars (~760 euros), and it can play all games on high-ultra settings in HD resoltuion (1920x1080).

If you are a computer geek such as myself, I'll list below the specs of my computer:

matte 1920 x 1080 screen 15.6" or 39.6 cm
intel i7 3630qm quad core processor
4 usb inputs
blu ray drive
12 gb of RAM
Nvidia gtx 675m graphics card with 2 gb GDDR5 memory
back lit steel keyboard
750 gb 7200 RPM Hard Drive
Windows 8

Desktop or Gaming laptop?

Evan

Hello, I have been looking for a good gaming PC for a while now and I was wondering what other people had in mind. I am looking at either getting a gaming desktop or a gaming laptop. My budget is around $1700. I would like something that is able to play any game at high settings at 35+ fps. If anyone has any suggestion please post them, also if you know of any gaming PC sites please post them. Also I have been looking at 2 gaming laptops particularly. The ASUS G74sx-A1 and the Sager np8810 (It's the one with dual GTX 560m's). So if you have any sites/suggestions/ or builds please post them.

Answer
It's good to choose what you want first: A gaming laptop or a gaming desktop.

Get a laptop if you want to take it a lot to other places, like school e.g. But if you're just gonna plant somewhere and barely move it then it's better to get a desktop. Gaming laptops are more expensive, get hotter and obviously have smaller screens than gaming desktops. Choose wisely.

For desktops: For that money you can get any high-end video card from ati or nvidia, like the 6970 or gtx570. Get a high end amd processor or something like an intel i7 and 4-8gb ram with it. That will run any game perfectly.

For notebooks: The laptop with the dual gtx 560m's sounds good to me. Any gaming laptop around 1700 dollars should run any game fine.

If you want to see how a notebook graphics card performs, check this site, it's great:

Which laptop has the best graphic card and battery life? I will be using it as a "gaming laptop" to take on long trips.

Answer
It's hard to find the right balance of Graphics Card power VS Battery Life, getting more out of one generally means losing out on the other.

If you're looking for a small laptop for long trips then i'd also have to recommend the Dell XPS m1330, it's a decent laptop for gaming and has a good battery life depending on what you're doing.

Now if you really want to blow you're socks off you should go with the Killer Notebook's Executioner SR, the battery life ain't so hot BUT it's easily the best value for money with it's massive screen and powerful graphics card. There's also the Killer Notebooks Odachi which is coming out sometime this month that sports Dual nVidia GeForce Go 7950 GTX in SLi configuration if you're really into having a bleeding edge gaming laptop ;)

But then again if you'll be using the laptop for "long trips" the Killer Notebook options, although awesome, will never last more than an hour off mains power so it might be best to stick with the Dell m1330 (on average 3 hours depending on what you're doing) :)

What gaming laptop should I get next 2013?

Shadomaste

Right now I have a lenovo y580. It has an i7, gtx 660m, 8gb of ram, 1tb hard drive. I have had this laptop for about a year and a half and at about every two years I buy a new computer. My computer right now is great but it is getting a little old. I use it for gaming and school purposes. What laptop should I get next? My "requirements" are that it has at least a gtx 760m and an i5. My price range is from 1000 to about 1750. Thanks so much.

Answer
Laptops are not for gaming. I'd keep the one I have for school and build my own PC.

What gaming laptop should i buy for games like guild wars 2,the elder scrolls online and WOW?

As of April 2013 what would be the best gaming laptop for the games i listed?
I know TES online is not out yet but could someone make a good guess of what specs i need?
looking to spend around $800 but i will pay more if it is worth it.

Answer
Lenovo.com
IdeaPad Y500 Laptop- 59371965 - at $850 plus tax. The GT 730M seems to be a little better than the GTX 660M. The link is long but not hard to navigate Lenovo.com

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834312438
The down level Y500 with the pair of GT 650M in sli. With an i5 processor, a few games will CPU bottleneck. It is $900 and taxed in California.
Both in 1080p

Now, hunt the stores, Amazon, Newegg, Tigerdirect, Fry's, Best Buy.

Come up with a GTX 660M or better at these prices.

TES:

Requirements will be fairly low.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152377
AT $800 is enough.
You can go cheap, and it is probably enough to play, even with weak build quality of Acer:

Gaming on NVIDIA Graphics Card GeForce GT 230M ?

Shila

I hav just got my sisters laptop which was bought 2 years back. It is HP pavilion DV7t-3000 laptop with following features:
⢠Genuine Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
⢠Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB)
⢠4GB DDR3 Samsung 1333Mhz System Memory
⢠1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M

I want to know how good this laptop is for gaming purpose? Will it support the new games like NFS Run and others. Is the graphics card good enough for gaming purposes. If not is there any way of updating/replacing it with newer ones.

Answer
The laptop was bought as an end of the model sold mostly 2008 and 2009, and the GT 230M was a lower-mid class release in June 2009. It is at 273 in this GPU to gaming web site:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html
It ranks between Intel Integrated graphics HD 3000 Mobility and HD 4000 Mobility
It cannot play the highest graphics new games and is not considered gaming level. NFS Run was released in late 2011 and it appears that GT 230M is just above the game manufacturer minimum so should play on the x768 screen at low settings.
Graphics cards of laptops cannot generally be upgraded. There are cases in newer laptops using standard laptop graphics cards and if a similar model laptop exists, you might be able to use that card.
I don't know what the configurable HP DV7t-3000 offered, but might be another in the GT 2x0M series if it can be found. It is generally not worth trying. I could not find any indication of a higher level card compatible on the internet. You could not upgrade with a newer card. If socketed, only a higher level of the same GPU family.

can i install a graphics card in my laptop?

Mustafa Fa

my laptop is toshiba l510 -01s00r.it has a celeron d t300 processor,a mobile intel 4 series express chipset family or intel gl40 express chipset with a 4500mhd graphics which has a core clock of 400.everyone knows that intel integrated graphics are slow.mine is too.that's why i can't play new games of 2011 in this.i want to install a nvidia graphics card in it so that it can replace my integrated graphics. can you please help me and tell me which one is the best nvidia graphics card that my mobo can support and how can i install it?
@computer_surplus2005 can i change my mobo?but i have found an empty place in my mobo for installing gfx card.

Answer
You said LAPTOP and they are all built on the graphics are built on to the mobo. You can change some of the laptops out there but 99.9% of the time you can not change the graphics without changing to a new mobo or different mobo. They are not like a desktop jus tbuy a graphics card and change it out. These are hardwired (soldered to the mobo). You might be able to find a external graphics card for laptops but that would be a waste.

Gaming Laptop Processor Speeds?

CJ

I am trying to buy a gaming laptop that's good enough to run games that recommend or require 3.2 Ghz processors (Arkham Asylum & Modern Warfare 2) but I am wondering if I actually have to buy a laptop that has a 3.2 Ghz processor. During my research some people's processors that were less than 3.2 overclocked and could run Arkham Asylum. I'm not trying to overdo it and get more than I really have to obviously for pricing reasons. Any help would be great!! Also suggestions on great laptops that would run these games at full speed are more than welcome!

Thanks!

Answer
Overclocking a laptop is like playing Russian Roulette with a (Semi-Automatic) Pistol instead of a Revolver...

As for the term "Gaming Laptop" it is an oxymoron...no laptop is a Gaming Machine...and any laptop listed as such, likely will cost you about $1000 more than it needs to.

But, if you're set on a laptop...look for one with discrete graphics cards, and either HD4xxx series cards, or 9800GTX or better.

You will then be looking for a 3.0 gHz or better dual core processor, or quad (overkill, but if you're in it for the status...).

Once you've done that, you'll need a 17" or so screen.

You may find it easier to have someone build you a semi-high-end LAN box and buy a decent LCD screen. It's as portable as a laptop, and almost as convenient to transport if you have the "backpack" rig to do so

Good Luck!

EDIT - Yes all revolvers are pistols, but not all pistols are revolvers ;)...I'll edit that line. :D The problem with a large vocabulary...you can't always pick exactly the right word/term! lol

Gaming Laptop Processor?

Adam

I am about to purchase a laptop for gaming and want to know whether MORE CORES or HIGHER GHz is better for gaming? The laptop im thinking of purchasing has AMD Quad-Core A-Series A8-3500M(1.5GHz) with AMD Radeon HD 6750M Dedicated Graphics Card. Will that run current games?

Answer
Don't get a laptop for gaming. Laptops are notorious for bogging down under a load. For games more speed is better but this is only half of the power needed. You also need a good video card. Only a desktop can provide enough power in the video card to run the games good. They can run on a laptop but very poorly.

Gaming Laptop (MIssissauga,Canada)?

Q. I live in mississauga, Ontario in Canada obv and im looking for a good laptop that can ply fifa 13 ,pes 13 and almost any game with no lag at all and at a high quality , can anyone recommend some good laptops/?

Answer
If you like Windows and you want to use it for gaming go ahead and buy an Alienware they deliver it directly to your door. Alienware is a dedicated brand for gamers owned by Dell so you are going to have good quality http://www.alienware.ca there you can find laptops, desktops and computer accessories. I would recommend not to buy the 11 inch if you like to enjoy your computers screen even it has a good image the screen is too small only buy that model if you like portability... One detail these computers are heavy and big but for their price it is kinda difficult to find something similar

Can you help me choose a laptop?

Mcgrufer

here are all the details i would like for my laptop. Please review them then if you could answer the question with a link to the laptop's website.

1) What is your budget?
$1500 or lower

2) What size notebook would you prefer?
15"-17"

3) What country (and state) are you buying this in?
USA

4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
I like MSI and Sager and i dont like dell, asus, and alienware

5) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
Gaming, Surfing the web, Homework for College, and possible video chat

6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
Taking it with me to different places but most of the time it will probably be on the desk

7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
Yes. Skyrim, BF3, Modern Warfare 3, Assassins Creed, etc.

8) How many hours of battery life do you need?
I would prefer around 5-6 at least but more is always better

9) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
I dont mind buying online as long as I can see the specs

10) Which OS do you prefer?
Windows 7 Ultimate/Professional or Windows 8

Screen Specifics

11) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non glossy screen?
Im okay with either but would prefer it not to be reflective

Build Quality and Design

12) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
Not as much but i would definitely prefer a good looking laptop

14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?
around at least 3-4 years before replacement of components or the entire thing

Notebook Components

15) How much hard drive space do you want; 250GB, 320GB, 500GB, 750GB, 1TB, or 1.5TB?
750GB or higher

16) Would you prefer a SSD Hard Drive? How much space do you want?
Yes. As much as space as I can get for my budget (see first question and answer)

17) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, CD/DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive?
Yes I do. Im okay with just the CDRW/DVD-ROM but I would prefer a Blu-Ray if it is not over my budget. (see first question and answer)

18) What speed CPU/Processor would you like? Dual core or Quad Core CPU?
I would like a third gen ivy bridge i7 processor. So whatever is the fastest speed for that processor under my budget. (see first question and answer) Im okay with either dual or quad core but would prefer whichever one is faster.

19) Do you use wireless, or do you plan on using it? Do you use Bluetooth, or do you plan on using it?
I will and do use wireless. I don't use Bluetooth now but I may use it in the future.

Hopefully this is enough information to go on so you can find a laptop suitable for me.

Thanks Again for your help. And Best Answer gets 10 points!

*Note I got the questions from XoticPC.com forums: http://xoticpcforums.com/showthread.php?702-Which-laptop-should-I-buy-UPDATED-7-30-11

Answer
Ah, I love helping people with high budgets choose laptops. Okay, so mainstream laptop manufacturers like HP, Lenovo, etc only make gaming laptops to a certain point. So serious gamers with a decent budget will have to look to gaming-specific laptop manufacturers. MSI and Sager are your best bet as Alienwares are wayyyy overpriced for what you get. I see you're familiar with xoticpc, good because that's probably the best place to buy gaming laptops. This is actually great timing, because they're having a 100$ sale on the models I think you should get.

The best graphics card for you, imho, is the AMD Radeon 7970m. This being this is powerful enough to max out most games (even battlefield 3), and the only Nvidia competitor is the 680m which is far more expensive.

There are only a few models that have this card in your price range, and these are the Sager NP9150, and the 17 inch equivalent that comes with a second hard drive slot, the NP9170 (and the GX60 which you should not think about, stop thinking about this now, NOW). These laptops have an option for the GTX 675mx, which is slightly less powerful than the 7970 but 100$ cheaper. This difference, however will make the difference from whether you can max out bf3 or not, so I'd go with the 7970.
I highly recommend Windows 8, don't listen to all the BS that it's bad for gamers, it's overall a better operating system. So including this in your laptop will cost another 80$ and bring you up to 1500$ on the dot if you pick the 15 inch one. So if you're not willing to pay over 1500$, you'll have to downgrade the 17inch one to a GTX 670mx if you want it. Personally, if this is a laptop and you want to take it around, I'd recommend the 15 inch. 17 inch laptops are just impractical imo, you might as well buy a desktop if you want a 100 pound laptop.
So, my recommendation is the 9150 with Win8.

Okay this isn't what you ask, but what I highly recommend is that you get a gaming desktop and then get a 500$ laptop to carry around. You can easily get a desktop that runs all current games in max setting for around 900-1000$ including Win8. If you travel often and want to game in hotel rooms, that's different and you can ignore this part. This is only if you want to mainly game at home, but still want the option of portability occasionally. If you want help with picking parts for a desktop, feel free to email me.

TL;DR Sager NP9150 with Win8 from XoticPC.

Can someone recommend me a decent mid-range gaming laptop?

Akif

I fear that my ancient HP laptop will die soon so I am looking for a replacement. The games I usually play aren't too demanding--things like Team Fortress, L4D2, League of Legends, Borderlands 2, CS:GO etc. I also use my laptop in college frequently, so models with decent weight and battery life are definitely a plus. Price isn't a big issue, but I hope I can find one near or under $900.

One laptop I have my eye on is a Lenovo T430 with an i5 and nvidia NVS 5400m. What I like about this laptop is that it weights slightly less than 5 pounds and has an insane battery life! The only caveat is that I've heard the 5400m is roughly equal to Intel 4600 in terms of performance so I might be better off with a newer model--can anyone confirm if this is true?

Good gaming PC/Laptop?

Creampie

Hi guys, I have been looking around on various websites for a good gaming computer, all I really need it to do is run World of warcraft (At a good Framerate on medium-low settings), Stream music off internet, Have MSN up, Ventrilo running, and maybe a couple internet pages open. My current computer does that fine right now, just the framerate in World of Warcraft kinda sucks :/. I want one hopefully under $500 and preferably a laptop. Thanks

Creampie
@Ya Hoo, I know I'm dreaming :) But I've still seen some out there

@Other answerer, thanks for the advice, I 'll look. :)

Answer
There are alot of laptops and computers out there that can run great with games or in other words gaming laptops.
But seriously... $500 is unrealistic.
I know one computer that sells around my area that costs $898 and is pretty damn good.

Specs: (you can later google this)

HP- Pavilion DV7 - 3060US
17.3 inch screen
Processor: AMD Turion Dual Core II
Processor Speed: 2.4GHZ
6gb of RAM
Graphic Card: ATI Radeon HD 4870

Graphic Card is very good and loads of RAM!

Best Laptop from PC World?

bob B

Need a pc, prefably from pc world, and it need sto be future proof, could somepne help me compile a top 3, gonna be using it for games, watching video etc so needs good ram. thanks in advance

http://www.pcworld.co.uk
btw screen size 14 - 15 "

Answer
I would not buy a computer from PC World. No software discs provided - that's why they sound cheap. The staff don't know much at all about Computers - they are there, (not unnaturally), to sell. Find a small computer business near where you live - ask around for recommendations on reliability, knowledge etc. You can easily get something for the same sort of price. If not better. Most of the well known makes (if you want to go for a brand) are good. If you are playing games etc. you will need a more expensive model for the processor. No PC is future -proof.They change by the week! Just tell your supplier what you need it for and ask for suggestions and the reasons why they are suggesting any model.

Good laptop games....?

Got a question for those pc gamers...
I've always been a console gamer... however in about a week and a half, I'm going to Japan and need something to entertain me on the plane

What are some good laptop games that will run on these specs:
intel i3, 2.something Ghz
4gb ram (1066Mhz)
1.5 gb shared video mem.

Answer
Depends of the graphic card. You need to mention that because that's what matters the most.

If the v/c is from ATI or Nvidia then Sims 3. :)

Trading old laptops in Japan?

Crayon Toe

I've been living in Japan for 2 months now, and I bought a laptop when I got here that I thought was okay. I want to play graphics-intensive games and unfortunately I didn't realize this laptop had an integrated graphics card when i bought it, as I was desperate for something at the time.

I have obviously encountered problems opening lots and lots of games, and I'm wondering if there's any trading system set up in Japan where you can trade in an old Laptop to get a new Laptop a bit cheaper. There is nothing actually -wrong- with this laptop, except it isn't what I wanted and because of the language barrier I couldn't properly explain what I wanted.

Any info would be greatly appreciated, or if anyone knows any other way I could possibly get a better laptop without just buying a new one and owning two. Thanks in advance!

Answer
I don't think there is trading system in Japan. But you can sell the old one at an used computer shop or online auctions to get money to buy a new one.

Looking for gaming laptop?

Q. Hi my price range is about 800-1000 can anyone recommend and link me to good gaming laptops for this price range. I want it to be able to handle any game i through at it like mw2, left for dead etc.
thanks

Answer
Gaming laptops are very simple.
The brand I recommend to all of my customers is Asus. As a computer tech for over 6years its the only brand that I have not had any issues with. Their gaming laptop are the G series.
But if you don't want to use a Asus because they don't have the name like Dell, HP make sure the laptop has these specs.
Core2duo or a iCore series CPU
4GB RAM or more
A dedicated Video card Nvidia 8800GTM or higher though a Nvidia GTS 360M or ATi 5000series cards.

Don't get a Apple the only way to can run a normal game like Crysis, Far Cry, Dirt2 or other would be to use a virtual machine and even then not great graphics.

If you would like more one on one help give my business partner Sean or my self Kenne a message on our web site at www.agentvpc.com

Here are a few computer on a site I like to use New Egg. I use the G73JH-A1 but I took out the 2 500GB drives and put in 2 1TB western digital drives for my games and programs.

Message me any time.
Try to stay away from Dell, HP, E Machines, COMPAQ, iBUYPOWER, Gateway, Alien Ware. They are very low quality computers/very over priced. Also you cant buy video cards like you can for a PC ATi and Nvidia don't sell just the card and even on ebay you cant just upgrade a video card.

Answer
1. Dont get a laptop for gaming. When you get tired of having a laptop for gaming and the urge to actually learn something about computers (and not be an alienware dweeb), a laptop is a total fail. upgrades are a pain and way expensive.

2. Dont get an alienware. They are total rip-offs. for desktops at least. they sell nice laptops. Get a pro tech to build you a nice desktop you can game one at highest settings. a nice $1000 desktop built right can handle any game you throw at it. if you want to future proof it, make sure you get a motherboard that supports SLI (nVidia) or Crossfire (ATI/AMD).

3. Dont get McAfee. its shit a PoS virus protection. I have tried (really, i really tested anti-virus programs to protect myself) many many anti-virus programs. from BitDefender to Norton to McAfee to Avast (and many more). the best one habds down is Sunbelt Vipre Anti-Virus. its kicks so much booty.

4. Make sure you get windows 7 ultimate 64-bit.

5. the processor in that is ok, but the whole "Turbo Boost" is for noobs. its more like crappy overclocking. i dont trust it.

I can keep going and going. but i am just saying. stop drooling over alienware. (in the computer tech forums, its for serious noobs and posers haha)

get a tech to build you a nice system and ask him if you can watch him (or her, youd be surprised, women have something to prove!), build it and give an explanation of what you are doing. I do this to my younger bros.

just dont touch the alienware unless you want a seriously mean laptop. but if you want to do some real gaming, and really be a hardcore gamer (we dont just play games), get a desktop.

EDIT: you can thumbs me down all you want, but what i say is true.

Best used/refurbished Gaming Laptop?

Brian

What is the best gaming laptop I can buy for under $300? I'll mostly be playing games such as Amnesia, Bioshock, Borderlands, Battlefield and Mirrors Edge through Steam.

Thanks!

Answer
Under $300? A gaming laptop? You can't. Not unless you find one someone is selling hot from Craigslist or such.

For $300, you should be able to get a desktop which will handle those games, although you might need to spend a bit more for a better graphics card. My guess is that you could get a refurbished desktop for about $300 and then spend another $50-$100 on a decent video card.

You will not get a laptop for that price other than a general/basic laptop, even used, that will have gaming performance. You might be able to find a gaming laptop of two or three years ago used for about $450 or $500 I would guess. Current new ones start at about $750. I just spent a few minutes looking at some previous Asus models on eBay and models from 2010 are running for $500 and up.
The two best laptop brands, other than Apple (which won't do your Windows games) are Lenovo and Asus. HP and Samsung's are about the same as Asus.
http://blog.laptopmag.com/best-worst-notebook-brands-2013/3

I would avoid Dell/Alienware (Alienware are far overpriced and their quality is not what it once was).
You would have to pay me to use Acer/Gateway.
I used Toshiba's for a long time with great success but they now rank at the bottom of the laptop mfgs.

Okay, so I do want a 12 cell battery.. and one reviewer said this only lasts about 2hrs, 30minutes when doing minimal things, but that's alright I think. I have heard there have been reported problems with this series of GFX card, but I'm not too concerned since I'll get the 3yr warranty and regularly make backups of my files. (Plus I still have my old laptop if I need to use it as a backup). I kind of wanted a bigger screen, but this one is alright I think. Before this, I wanted a HP model.

I was looking at the HP Pavilion DV9920US Widescreen notebook.. with these specs:

*17" WXGA+ BrightView LCD Screen
*AMD Turion 64 X2 dual-core TL-60 2.0 GHz, 1MB L2, 1600MHz FSB
*4GB DDR2 memory
*250GB 5400-rpm SATA hard drive
*Win Vista Home Prem 64-bit w/SP1
*LightScribe SuperMulti DVD drv
*802.11a/b/g/Draft-N wireless
*4 USB 2.0; 1 FireWire; 1 S-video
*5-in-1 card reader; bluetooth

Now, I liked that the bus speed was pretty high - 1600MHz FSB... but I think the first model I listed would run faster/better than this one, correct? The most recent model I listed - the HP - had a 3yr accidental warranty for about $480 (From Office Depot).. whereas the first one listed costs about 270 on newegg for 3yrs accidental.

If you're wondering what I want the laptop for: I want it for some gaming. Mostly some older games, but it would be nice if it could run some of the newer games on a low resolution since I have gamer friends. I'd like it to last me a while in college, thus the 3yr warranty and the good GFX card. If you have any questions/suggestions/comments on it, please post them. All constructive comments are welcome. Thanks :)

Edit: The HP had a nVidia 7150 GFX card.
I will be checking back on this tonight/tomorrow morning and noon, so feel free to ask any questions with any advice you may have.
Another question: Is there a significant difference between the 1600MHz bus speed on the HP and the 667MHz bus speed on the first listed laptop? Where would it make a difference?
I don't have a problem with 64 bit, since I've read most of the games I play can be configured to run on it. Plus, 64 bit is probably the wave of the future.
For the record: my old laptop is a Dell D600 Latitude with a 1.4GHz single core intel processor... 1.2GB ram (upgraded 1gig a yr ago, was originally 512). 30GB hard-drive.
The simple answers are okay, but I was hoping for more thought. At least how much of a difference the 1600 bus speed HP would be compared to the 667 of the 1st model.

Answer
If I were you I would hunt down some Maximum PC, PC mag, Computer shopper, consumer report or other tests of this rig. You can buy it beautiful and kicking. But, when it smokes it may as well be a $10 watch when you start to look for their service center. If you find it. Try before you buy and ask questions like what their average and max turn around time is for repairs. Also ask who pays what. Ask about pixel defects. How many before you replace my screen? If you don't like the answers Keep walking. I have worked with computers for 25 years. The company may be perfectly legit and in the good ole computer bad world it may fold the day after it makes your laptop. Also check the better business bureau where their home office or manufacturing plant is. If they have a bad record, there already are other people who have purchased from them who are hot on their trail. Trying to recover their money. Any old engineer with enough money can make a PC it takes lots of money to make a PC that is well designed., especially a laptop. Next do a search for complaints on the company on the net. If you find an abnormally high one don't give them your money. Of course I am not talking about HP,Compaq, Toshiba etc. Although it is god to read everything yu can find on the models you are looking at. Sometimes complaints reach the web quickly sometimes not.. The big timers screw up as well so take nothing for granted.

On the 64 bit subject remember that with Good Ole' Vista NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING I know of in 32 bit will run with it including anything using Active X on the INternet. Here we are 3 or 4 years later and I cannot get Active X for for 64 bit Internet Explorer. Just my ramblings but remember that all Warranties and written with the same words. So be sure it acceptable to you, or you are agreeable to the risks before you buy. My 64 Bit Internet Explorer runs like a demon until it hits something that needs Active X then it keeps trying to load An active X that does not exist I am not sure what Microsoft had in mind but this is the poorest rollout of an OS I have seen since Windows ME. Oh' yeh the hype MIcrosoft has of "Mohave" with a bunch of actors or dummies they found on the street making Vista such a wonderful looking system wonderful is just a word. Those Guys know about as much about Vista as I know about A Fusion reactor I in fact may know more about a reactor than they do Vista. Vista is compatible with nothing but new Microsoft certified software don't expect anything else to work.

Also there is a big difference between processor and Front Side bus Speed . You want both high but the FSB is usually a multiple if the processor speed. If you want to know how fast a computer is get a copy of Sisoft Sandra from the web and compare the two or three you decide on. Simple processor speed means very little in the PC world anymore. ALso remember that laptop processors are made to throttle back when not presented with a challenging job throttles back to 200 Mhz or so to save battery. So be aware if you see a excessively low Processor speed that this may be the case. They must be good at saving battery as well.

Answer
You're gonna be hard pressed to find many 10-13" laptops with DVD burners inside, but 2 options come to mind:

Asus UL80vt (this is a 14")
Apple 13" MacBook Pro

Both are PC Mag Editor's Choice. I would go with the Asus between the two, and here's why: http://www.pcmag.com/compare_products/0,1943,,00.asp?sid=1565&a=245591,241226

At base configuration, the Asus' MSRP is $350 cheaper and gets you more than twice the battery, twice the RAM, twice the video memory (graphics card), twice the hard drive space, twice the manufacturer's warranty. The Asus has HDMI- and VGA-out. The Apple has a proprietary port for video out. The Asus has an 8-in-1 card reader (SD, miniSD, MMC, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick, SmartMedia, xD) and the Apple has an SD card reader. Both models have multi-touch touchpads. The apple has a native resolution of 1280x800; the Asus has a native resolution of 1366x768). It's a toss-up comparing benchmarks and weight. The Apple has a few key advantages, though: it has a superior display (color-wise), bluetooth inside, and a backlit keyboard. Note: the comparison link listed above INACCURATELY states that the UL80vt uses an external optical drive. Also misleading is the listed CPU clock speed on the Asus, which is overclocked to 1.73 GHz by default and can reach 2.13 GHz on one core (as seen in a screenshot http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5490233&postcount=238).

The MacBook Pro could be configured to match the Asus' RAM and hard drive, but it would get closer to $1500. Right now on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/UL80Vt-A1-14-Inch-Light-Black-Laptop/dp/B002Q8HK7K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1258590992&sr=8-1) the Asus comes with a free $100 gift card.

I know all of this because I've been seriously considering the Asus.

Engadget recently posted some data (http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/17/laptop-reliability-survey-asus-and-toshiba-win-hp-fails/) showing Asus and Toshiba were at the top of the reliability charts, so if you do decide on Toshiba, you know it's a good decision. However, Toshiba might be bought by Asus soon (http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/16/asus-courting-toshiba-in-bid-to-become-top-3-pc-maker/), in case you care. According to the chart, you might want to stay away from HP. Apple is right in the middle of the pack. The only Dell I would think of considering is the 14z (another 14"), which is very popular right now, but the Asus UL80vt beats it in benchmarks (http://www.anandtech.com/mobile/showdoc.aspx?i=3665). If you want to see the 14z review anyway, it is at (http://www.anandtech.com/mobile/showdoc.aspx?i=3664).

What is a good Gaming latop for £600?

Olls

I need a 'gaming' laptop for games (obviously) and also it needs to be good enough for my design work. Now before i blow £600 on a laptop i want to know if your suggestion is compatible with new high tier games like battlefield 4. I've been anticipating this game for a while now and I want to get the right laptop for the job. No, i will not want a PC as it needs to be portable. I know PC's will have better value for money but I really need this to be portable for my work. Good advise will be preferable. Also if you would like to forward me on to a gaming mouse that is around £60 I will greatly appreciate it. Many thanks
I would prefer a high end laptop. Basically, one that is as good as it can get that is nearest to £600 would be good. I would like to play my games on as best quality as I can get for £600. Also for my photography and photoshop good graphics are very helpful. But thank you to TWB for your very detailed explanation of laptops and it has helped me a lot!

Answer
Gaming systems do not need the latest bleeding edge technology to give hours of fun and satisfaction. There will be people who are going to claim that you need the highest resolution screen (1920 x 1080) and the fastest CPU and GPU with obscene amounts of ram. They think that by picking all the latest bleeding edge parts and slapping them together makes it all work. Choose what works for you in your budget. A 1366 x 768 screen with a middle of the road CPU, GPU will work just fine. You're not going to be playing the bleeding edge games with bleeding edge technology in the highest settings, but you will be having fun.

Brand buying advise

You get what you pay for. Systems with high end parts with low prices are to be viewed with suspicion. They have to cut corners somewhere to get the price down.

Apple makes a good quality laptop. The problem comes when it requires service or minor upgrades. It is near impossible to do anything with them. They even glue the battery and hard drive down so you can not change it. They solder the ram to the logic board so you can not increase it. They lock up most of the software so your stuck with what they approve.

Lenovo has serious stand behind their product problems. They bought IBM PC division and proceeded to drive the quality of the system into the ground. Their customer service is well below par. They even makes Dell customer service look good. The last and final thing to remember about them is they are a Chinese Government own company. It is up to you if you want to trust them.

Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony should be avoided because of their heavy modification of Windows and the drivers. If you remove some of the bloat they install, you can cripple the system.

Acer, Gateway, and eMachines should be avoided period. Low end system that are driving the race to the bottom.

Dell once made a good system and fell from grace. They are now struggling to regain their place in the market. Customer service is one of many problems with this company.

Alienware are glorified Dells and are more name then product. Priced extremely high for what you get. They do perform but you can get the same for less by looking around, just not packaged to be eye candy to the gamers.

Samsung has a history of using cheap parts in critical areas. Capacitors has been one area Samsung has a known history of going cheap, causing units to fail early. For that reason I would avoid them.

ASUS and HP do not modify Windows as bad as the other manufacturers. They have excellent build quality. They might add a lot of bloat but they also makes it easy to get rid of it.

Choose wisely.

Questions about gaming PC?

lspocool

OK so I want to get a gaming likey a laptop so i can use it on the go but might go for desktop. Anyway I have a few questions. I am going to be using it for new games like crysis2 but still some older games like sims 2.

Q1.Wich one is would be the best value for money but still preform well (I listed above what I will be playing on it)

Q2.Can I use it like a normal PC Like surf the web, make word documents.wach dvds

Q3.Can I run other progams on it besides game e.g windows movie maker, virual basics.

Q4. What are the Pros and Cons of getting a gaming laptop compared to a desktop

1.what is the best value for money and still work

Answer
The best gaming laptop is one that you build yourself, either by picking out the individual part and putting them together yourself or customizing a PC or laptop online from a website like Dell's Alienware. Customizing through a website will always be a bit more expensive than putting all the elements together, but it helps if you don't know how or are unsure on how to do that.

Basically any gaming PC/laptop will still be able to do anything and everything that other standard PC's/laptops do, only better.

If you think you can built it yourself, check out newegg.com. That site will provide you with everything you need to build a gaming PC (cases/towers, power supplies, hard drives, gfx cards, sound cards. etc.) If you're looking to get a gaming laptop or you don't want to deal with the hassle of building it yourself, you can always go for an Alienware gaming laptop or PC.

Keep in mind, pre-built gaming PC's/laptops will always be more expensive than if you build it yourself. Hope it helps.

Cheap Gaming Laptops?

I would like to get a laptop that can handle most games and run them smoothly, it doesn't have to be able to run them at the highest resolution but the highest would be preferable. I'm also gonna use a lot of photoshop and video editing software. My budget is around $800-$1500.

This HP can be customized to. Upgrade the Graphics to NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M 2048MB of dedicated video memory, 1080p screen and 16GB ram brings it to $1000. Do not get this lappy without the graphics upgrade. Starting at $870

Brand buying advise

Always avoid refurbished units. They only come with a 90 day warranty and have a higher failure rate. The service contacts are normally just a one time replace contract.

You get what you pay for. Systems with high end parts with low prices are to be viewed with suspicion. They have to cut corners somewhere to get the price down. What cost you less today is going to cost you more tomorrow.

Apple makes a good quality laptop. The problem comes when it requires service or minor upgrades. It is near impossible to do anything with them. Lenovo has serious stand behind their product problems. They bought IBM PC division and proceeded to drive the quality of the system into the ground. Their customer service is well below par. They even makes Dell customer service look good. Lenovo will not allow people to read instruction on how to access the BIOS menu or to get info on their puters on their web site unless you connect to them thru Facebook. They do this so they can spy on their users. The last and final thing to remember about them is they are a Chinese Government own company. It is up to you if you want to trust them.

Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony should be avoided because of their heavy modification of Windows and the drivers. If you remove some of the bloat they install, you can cripple the system.

Ultrabooks are the higher end of Wintel laptops but they have some of the same concerns as Apple. They make it next to impossible to change any hardware in them. Service of them will have to be done by the manufacturers. With most of them, you can not change your own battery or hard drive. They are designed to catch your eye but they are not any more special then other laptops except for the fact that they are slim or thin. Your paying for it being thin and slim. For the money your going to spend on it you can buy a much better laptop with more power.

Chrome books are useless. They are designed by Google to make you dependent on Google. If you can not access the web then you can not do anything.

Hybrids are the worse of the worse. The flip or detachable touch screens are just a disaster waiting to happen.

Never buy an All In One. They are far worst then laptops of any kind to service and they have a higher failure rate.

Choose wisely.

What is a good affordable gaming LAPTOP?

Killingu53

I want to buy a new laptop, mainly to game on. I will be playing bf3, minecraft, and maybe cod. So is there a good reliable laptop i can game on for at or under 1000 dollars. Is hp good?

Answer
Gaming laptops are very expensive, prone to overheating, and have a terrible battery life. Most true PC gamer use desktops. For the 1000$ you could build a superior gaming desktop than to buy a gaming laptop for the equal amount.

Also, laptops are very difficult to upgrade and most people won't bother upgrading it anyways. Buying a laptop means you are locked with what you got without the chance of upgrading the hardware, by time it becomes outdated, your only choice would be to throw it away and have to buy a new laptop all together. Desktops on the other hand are future proof, when hardware becomes outdated, swap it out and put in new hardware. Sorry for not answering your question I just don't want you to make a choice you will regret afterwards.
