The thing about computers is that there's a pretty good correlation between how much you pay and how good it is. You're not going to be able to play new games on high settings with a $700 computer and certainly not with a pre-built one (you can get a pretty good computer for $700 if you buy the parts yourself and put them together)

How loud will the fans be on my mac?

Hi I am interested in getting the mid 2012 macbook pro, I would like to use it for gaming and since it has a Nvidia Gforce graphics card instead of ATI (which apparently get very hot) and the new ivybridge proccessors which are supposed to be cooler, I am wondering if the fan will be so loud I can't hear the gameplay propperly or if my laptop will get really hot. Also I was wondering if the higher resolution would improve the heat and noise of the fans. I don't mind it having some noise however I would like to know wether it will get so loud that if I am gaming with headphones in that it will wake my younger brother whilst he's sleeping.

The difference is the A2 has a 1080p screen while the RBBX05 has a 900p screen. The A2 also has a 2 year warrany + 1 year accident protection if you register it with Asus. There have been issues with GSODs, but apparently the latest updates have fixed that.

Why does my macbook air get so hot?

We got laptops from school, and they are the 13" macbook air 2011. Now, almost every time i do something on it, it gets really hot in the upper left area of the keyboard and most of the time it gets really really hot. I'm using on a flat surface, and i'm usually doing a simple task like typing on the internet or something with no other applications open. Why does it get this hot? I though it wasn't supposed to do that since it had and SSD.

The heat is the processor/graphics. All the graphics hardware is built into the processor.

The most common reasons for fan noise / overheating:
-- Video intensive tasks (HD video or games). Fix: Take a five minute break every 30 minutes to let the system cool.
-- Using the computer on the bed. Fix: Take it off the bed.
-- Case/cover attached. Fix: Remove the case/cover. This includes keyboard cover. The keyboard is the input channel for Air.
-- Hot room (in summer). Fix: turn on the A.C.
-- Dust bunnies build up in the fan housing. Fix: Take apart and clean the fan area.
-- Using the computer on the bed. Fix: Take it off the bed.
-- Fan is faulty. Fix: Take apart and replace the fan.

I have an Acer Aspire X3400G and would like to upgrade to the best possible graphics card I can without transplanting the whole works to a bigger case. It currently has a GeForce 9200...which I've been reading is pretty horrible, so ANY kind of upgrade would be a huge improvement. Going to or near the limit shuts it down or blows it out. As the power supply ages, it usually also wears down. There are no PCIe graphics card connectors. The CPU, fans, graphics card, disk drives get powered by the 12V rail.

Any graphics card has to be low profile. There are not many useful options. Cheap cards do not do gaming. Do you feel like trying to put in a 55 watt HD 7750 low profile? It could go a little higher in full use, as the CPU also goes to its maximum power and fan at its fullest. Do not say you were not warned. HD 7750 recommends a 400 watt good PSU.

If you compare PS3/Xbox360 consoles to high end PC's that came out at the same time the consoles did (back in 2007). There is no way the PC can handle the new games such as Crysis 3, Skyrim or Metro 2033 even on very low quality.

I have a PS3 that I bought in 2010 for $400 and also a HP ENVY laptop (with a 1GB dedicated graphics card) bought at the same time for $1500. Now the laptop can't handle any of the new games at all even on low quality but my PS3 still can.

So how is it that consoles are able to handle games much better than PCs?

Because console versions are extremely "dumbed" down on release. They tone the graphics down a lot and a bunch of other features. The reason why your laptop can't run it, is well honestly, that laptop isn't that good. It is an HP laptop NOT meant for gaming. 1 GB dedicated to graphics card is nothing in all honesty. Most people have 2-3 gb dedicated.

the right connections to allow changing video cards. Unfortunately even
these standards allow the connections to be soldered making replacement

I just bought a laptop with this video card specifically for gaming. I got it on sale for under 1000 and hope it is decent. It was either this video card or a stuped gma 950 or ati mobility radeon 1100 integrated card.

Also is this card a true dedicated video card and how much video ram does it have?

It will play most games, though on low settings.

You can check its video ram by rightclicking on the desktop, select Properties, select the Settings tab, click on Advanced, select the Adapter tab, the video ram must be there.

I have had this ASUS G73SW-3DE computer for about a week. I am verrrrrryyyyy happy with it. The build, quality, construction is the best I have seen in a laptop. The keyboard works great and the keys are spaced nicely for typing. All that student stuff aside, this thing rocks! The games are all set at ultra settings and the 3D looks amazing. When the glasses are on the screen is bright so you don't have any issues at all with the darker lenses of the Nvidia 3D glasses.Also all you World of Warcraft players out there, you wont believe how things change when you play in 3D. It blew me away to see all the flat graphics in WOW come to life in 3D.

Excellent games than can be played on middle-of-the-road or lower computers

Terraria (Available on steam)
Team Fortress 2 (Free to play on steam)
Portal/Portal 2 and Half Life 2 are fun, (though rather short) single player games.
Skyrim is incredibly fun, can be played on low graphics on most computers.

Most CPU's today can handle any game to date just fine. I would be worried about the Video card, especially when it comes to laptops, because you cannot upgrade laptop video cards so if you get something crappy, you'll have to live with it :/

I want to get the best possible gaming laptop or desktop for under 500. I would like to play black ops 2 or battlefield three on at least medium settings running smoothly. I would prefer a laptop and AMD or Intel doesn't matter to me. Also I don't have the time to build a computer.
