Oh man, for 800 dollars you can get SO much! You need to pick out more options though... 13" screen? 14'? 15"? 17"? 15" is pretty standard.

I personally really like Dell laptops a lot. I've had a number of them and haven't had any issues. They almost always come with webcams too.

For $800 you could probably even get a 15" laptop that *does* have a dedicated video card so you could definitely play Sims. (I could probably even build one that could play Sims 3 for that price.)

I'm in the market for a new laptop, but I need a fast processor, lots of ram, and an excellent graphics card. I do play games, but also I'm a digital artist and large documents in Photoshop with tons of layers (which is pretty typical for what I do) all but kills my current computer (my games DO kill it) - which is admittedly little more than an expensive paperweight. If possible, I would like to find one for under 800 dollars, but I do understand that it may not be feasible. Any advice?

Go for the Sony VAIO E Series. It's highly recommended. for all your artist needs, it is the best/ I'm an individual music producer and I use it a lot. Dual boot Linux Ubuntu for more options in your Photoshop work!

I am in the market for a gaming laptop for a semi-serious gamer. I am looking to play games such as Battlefield 2 on medium quality settings and Oblivion. I have looked into several of the graphics cards that come integrated and dedicated in laptops. I know that the possibility of upgradable graphic card upgrades in laptops is still a few years away. I am looking for a laptop with graphics that can handle the games I listed. I don't need any of that Vista crap neither. It's too early to upgrade OS. Buy a Rosewill case and power supply for best for the money. Buy a case with 3 fans(120mm), a power supply(psu) with 700 watts. ASRock extreme 3 motherboard with the same socket number as your processor for compatibility. Core i5 Intel processor-you don't need an i7 cpu for gaming. I use an AMD FX-4170 which works for me and costs less than the i5 although many gamers like the i5. 8GB of DDR3 ram 1600MHz. Sony optical drive dvd reader and burner for about 20 dollars. SATA 500GB or 1TB hard drive 7200 rpm 32MB cache or 64MB cache. I just bought a Radeon 7870 2GB video card at Newegg.com for $214 and it is great for the cost. Most people upgrade the video card every 2 years or so like I do. Thats why I stay in the 200 dollar range since in 2 years the 200 dollar one then will be twice as fast as the 200 dollar one is now. And an OS, get Windows7 for about 100 dollars-Home Premium is good for gaming- as W8 doesn't have the bugs worked out yet, you can upgrade in the future. I bought W8 for only 40 dollars but went back to Windows7 for now till w8 gets a service pack. You should be able to build a good one for under 900 to 1000 dollars.
All the parts and wires go into the only place they fit. There are 7 tiny wires from the front of the case to the mobo that have to be exactly right for it to start. The mobo manual will have a diagram that shows how to get them right, this is the trickiest part of pc building. Put the optical drive(dvd) in the case and the hard drive b4 you put in the mobo. Then install the power box and ram and video card.

How to stop my samsung laptop from overheating?

I bought this laptop (Samsung RV511) in october 2012. It's ran pretty well since then, but recently (in the last month or so), it's been running hot, especially when playing games; the CPU was reaching 95°C, and the game would freeze up for a few seconds. I think the problem is the fan since I can't feel much air coming out of the vent.

Any way to solve this? I want to try cleaning the fan, but It's buried pretty deep and I'm afraid I'll mess something up if I open it. Will just blowing compressed air into the vents do anything or is that bad for the laptop?

95°C is really bad for your CPU and computer in general. I guess you use the computer for a fairly long period of time per use so that is probably why it is firing up so high.

It is a good idea to invest in a cooling pad, these things raise your computer, allowing more heat to escape and to cool it down at the same time with a fan blowing underneath. I suggest getting one from coolermaster, since my friend has one and it works well

For demanding games (and that budget), you are better off with a desktop!

For less demanding games (Java Web kind or such), everyday (AKA low-end) laptops with an AMD/ATI combo (CPU/GPU) are actually better than an Intel (with the older GMA).

my gaming computer I built costed about $1300 AU dollars and it plays BF3 at 60 fps ultra, but if your looking for something pre built and just shipped to you ready to set up id say origin pc you can choose everything including a customised case that would probably set you back about $5000 with about 2 graphics cards and a nice CPU with water cooling and a good overclock

I'm looking for gaming laptop able to do over 400MB of fast paced gaming with good internet. Like halo fast only less graphics Combat arms, mabingoi, AVA, and still have space left. But it needs to be less then 500 dollars. I'm not sure if that's hard to ask but that's what i want. no saying i have all of those games. like i said handle over 400MB and quick. please answer.

a little overbudget, yes. but you are getting a huge 'ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870' capable of handling any damn game. Maybe the higher games at reduced settings, but it will play nevertheless

What laptop should I get? Or what kind should I be looking for?

I mainly use my current laptop for browsing the internet with anywhere from one to 30 tabs open on a browser. I would like to use it as a minor gaming laptop where I'll probably have three games on it at a time. I also have a ton of photos, music, documents for school, etc; thus, I'm guessing I'll need one with plenty of gigabytes in the hard drive.

If that really doesn't help, just tell me which recently released/current laptop is great for lasting long and for leisure use around for 4 hours a day.
I can't believe I forgot this part, at most I'll be paying around $600 or $700. So most Macbooks, if I were to even think about getting one, would be out of my wallet's range.

Buying advice

Apple makes a good quality laptop. The problem comes when it requires service or minor upgrades. It is near impossible to do anything with them. They even glue the battery and hard drive down so you can not change it. They solder the ram to the logic board so you can not increase it. They lock up most of the software so your stuck with what they approve.

Lenovo has serious stand behind their product problems. They bought IBM PC division and proceeded to drive the quality of the system into the ground. Their customer service is well below par. They even makes Dell customer service look good. The last and final thing to remember about them is they are a Chinese Government own company. It is up to you if you want to trust them.

Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony should be avoided because of their heavy modification of Windows and the drivers. If you remove some of the bloat they install, you can cripple the system.

Acer, Gateway, and eMachines should be avoided period. Low end system that are driving the race to the bottom.

Dell once made a good system and fell from grace. They are now struggling to regain their place in the market. Customer service is one of many problems with this company.

Alienware are glorified Dells and are more name then product. Priced extremely high for what you get. They do perform but you can get the same for less by looking around, just not packaged to be eye candy to the gamers.

Samsung has a history of using cheap parts in critical areas. Capacitors has been one area Samsung has a known history of going cheap, causing units to fail early. For that reason I would avoid them.

ASUS and HP do not modify Windows as bad as the other manufacturers. They have excellent build quality. They might add a lot of bloat but they also makes it easy to get rid of it.

Ultrabooks are the higher end of Wintel laptops but they have some of the same concerns as Apple. They make it next to impossible to change any hardware in them. Service of them will have to be done by the manufacturers. With most of them, you can not change your own battery or hard drive. They are designed to catch your eye but they are not any more special then other laptops except for the fact that they are slim or thin. Your paying for it being thin and slim. For the money your going to spend on it you can buy a much better laptop with more power.

Tablets are just toys to me. They can not handle the work load like Laptops and Desktops and do not have the storage capacity you will end up needing.

Hybrids are the worse of the worse. The flip or detachable touch screens are just a disaster waiting to happen.

Never buy an All In One. They are far worst then laptops of any kind to service and they have a higher failure rate. My experience with them are limited because the few I worked on made me think they were designed in such a way as it would take a blow torch and a jack hammer just to disassemble them.

Choose wisely.

i have a dell vostro 1520, its 4gb RAm and 500gb hard drive with windows 7 ultimate on it, i dont know what the graphic card is but i would like to try and turn it into a gaming laptop to play (LOTRO) lord of the rings online. or just sell the computer to get a gaming one?

It is one of the easiest questions even but it does have a very long answer. It is easy because it is basically a matter of upgrading certain components. But you have to know exactly which part to upgrade and why it needs upgrading. We are going to go through the basics of gaming notebook components,Before you start doing any upgrading there are 2 things that you need to pay attention to. First, you have to make sure that the parts you want to change are not soldered to the motherboard. In some cases, components like processors are attached to the motherboard and replacing them basically means you have to replace two components instead of just one. Second, before you open up the unit, you have to make sure that you do not void the warranty if your laptop is still in the warranty period. There is usually a sticker that covers one of the screws that you normally need to remove in order to upgrade and once you remove that sticker, the warranty is no longer available. Also keep in mind that buying new laptop components means there is some investment to be done. Laptop components are more expensive that desktop computer parts.
