Hi All, Which laptop would be best to purchase in these days (SONY, DELL, HP etc.). It should be good enough to play games like splinter cell conviction, arkham asylum 2, metro 2033, mafia 2 etc. and should be good enough to run multimedia applications as well. thanks
My budget: 40000 INR.
All answers appreciated :)

Answer
YOU NEED TO GO TO A MAJOR STORE, AND TRY THEM OUT YOURSELF. FEEL FREE TO TAKE AND LOAD UP A COUPLE OF THE GAMES AND APPS YOU MENTIONED, BEING SURE TO PLAY A FEW ROUNDS TO GET A FEEL FOR THE QUALITY AND HANDLING OF THE DEVICES...ALSO, BE SURE TO UNINSTALL THEM WHEN YOU ARE DONE TO AVOID LICENSING RIGHTS ISSUES. ANY MAJOR AND REPUTABLE STORE SHOULD LET YOU DO THIS...AND IF THEY DON'T, DON'T BUY FROM THEM...IT IS A SAFE BET THAT THERE ARE AT LEAST TEN PLACES WITHIN TWENTY MILES OF YOU THAT SHOULD LET YOU TRY OUT ANY LAPTOPS YOU WOULD BE INTERESTED IN.

Suggest me a better laptop?

If you're looking for an affordable, not so big, yet best in performance gaming laptop?
LOOK NO FURTHER.
Like me, get the MSI GT680R 15.6"-full HD GAMING NOTEBOOK which comes with the 2nd Generation Core i7 Processor 2630QM, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB Hard Disk Drive (2 x 500GB 7200rpm SATA HDD) & a powerful Class 1, 1.5GB NVIDIA GTX460M DDR5 dedicated graphics card that can handle DirectX 11 enhancing the 3D detail effects from FRYS.com (SKU#: 6547393).
I was free for the day so I hung around the store and got to use the laptop first hand.
I came back to check out the laptop every hour for 6 hrs and found out that the air from the vent of the laptop remained cool compared to any other laptops on display there, meaning this laptop has proper heat management, that means this laptop can handle long hours of gruelling play. Now, I'm all stewed up saving to buy this b4 Blizzard releases Diablo 3.
The MSI GT680R 15.6" Gaming Notebook w/ the Intel® Core⢠i-7 retails for $1,499.99 (+ tax & other sur-charges). I chose to pay more to have the newest technology so that I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT GETTING OUTDATED WITHIN THE NEXT 11 YRS.
click here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152239

Are you a game enthusiasts playing for long hours? Get a COOLER MASTER U2 Notebook Cooler w/c has dual purposes. Cool thing about it is that you can position the fans on the right spot for better ventialation. When travelling, detach the easily detacheable dual fan, & you can use the aluminum frame as a protection for your laptop's LCD screen when inside the bag. I got mine from MicroCenter.com for 48% cheaper than the regular $24.99 tag (FRYS.com SKU#: 6344931).
click here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834997730

If you're a lil' bit low on budget, get the next best thing. The msi GE620-021 15.6" Gaming Notebook also features a 2nd Generation Intel Core i7 Processor 2630QM & 8GB DDR3 RAM, just 640GB HDD, but only a Class 2, 1GB NVIDIA GT540M dedicated graphics card that can also handle DirectX 11 effects from FRYS.com (SKU#: 6539123).
The ASUS N53SV-XR1 for $949.99 sounds 150dollars cheaper, but comes with only 4GB of memory.
click here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152258

Just remember these: The 1st thing you should look for on the computer surface is A LOGO STICKER for NVIDIA or ATI MOBILITY RADEON just below the keyboard. This SHOWS that the laptop has A DEDICATED GRAPHICS CARD (for AutoCAD & Adobe Photoshop). Diablo III, the game I would love most to play runs on 3D graphics & is rumored to need at least 1GB GRAPHICS MEMORY (lower graphics memory = CHEAPER laptop price),
so always check the system requirement specs on the game's box (ex. SIMS 3; see if your laptop meets all the requirements).
For gamers, make sure the GRAPHICS CARD on the laptop IS ONLY from the HIGH END or MIDRANGE:
click the link: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html
Next important aspect is the RAM (memory). If you're in designing & you need to run applications like AutoCAD or softwares for editing photos & videos, just make sure that the laptop has AT LEAST 2GB DDR2 RAM modules in it (HIGHER IS BETTER; DDR3 & DDR5 are faster & newer types of memory modules that came out).
But what makes a computer really run fast? It is it's processor! So if you really want your processor to have computing prowess & you're able to run different applications simultaneously, make sure it's AS EFFICIENT AS an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor (Centrino 2 is a Core 2 Duo featuring power saving capabilities; Quad Core is for gaming fanatics). A Core 2 Duo is like having 2 motors running the computer each independent of the other w/c means for a Quad Core, it's like 4 motors are running the machine (that means it will run faster & more efficient even if its frequency is lower to that of a Core 2 Duo). Intel: Core 2 Duo, Centrino 2, Quad Core, Core i-3, Core i-5 & Core i-7 are all very much faster & better than an Intel: DUAL CORE, PENTIUM, CELERON, ATOM & their more affordable AMD counterparts. Just make sure you have AT LEAST 2GHz of speed on your processor.
The HDD (Hard Disc Drive) should be at least 320GB.
The average laptop LCD screen size is 15.4". If you want something smaller than that w/ these facts I just shed some light on, expect the price to go higher (ex. for 13.3" & 14.1" LCD screens).

Apple makes a good quality laptop. The problem comes when it requires service or minor upgrades. It is near impossible to do anything with them. They even glue the battery and hard drive down so you can not change it. They solder the ram to the logic board so you can not increase it. They lock up most of the software so your stuck with what they approve.

Lenovo has serious stand behind their product problems. They bought IBM PC division and proceeded to drive the quality of the system into the ground. Their customer service is well below par. They even makes Dell customer service look good. The last and final thing to remember about them is they are a Chinese Government own company. It is up to you if you want to trust them.

Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony should be avoided because of their heavy modification of Windows and the drivers. If you remove some of the bloat they install, you can cripple the system.

Acer, Gateway, and eMachines should be avoided period. Low end system that are driving the race to the bottom.

Dell once made a good system and fell from grace. They are now struggling to regain their place in the market. Customer service is one of many problems with this company.

Alienware are glorified Dells and are more name then product. Priced extremely high for what you get. They do perform but you can get the same for less by looking around, just not packaged to be eye candy to the gamers.

Samsung has a history of using cheap parts in critical areas. Capacitors has been one area Samsung has a known history of going cheap, causing units to fail early. For that reason I would avoid them.

ASUS and HP do not modify Windows as bad as the other manufacturers. They have excellent build quality. They might add a lot of bloat but they also makes it easy to get rid of it.

Ultrabooks are the higher end of Wintel laptops but they have some of the same concerns as Apple. They make it next to impossible to change any hardware in them. Service of them will have to be done by the manufacturers. With most of them, you can not change your own battery or hard drive. They are designed to catch your eye but they are not any more special then other laptops except for the fact that they are slim or thin. Your paying for it being thin and slim. For the money your going to spend on it you can buy a much better laptop with more power.

Tablets are just toys to me. They can not handle the work load like Laptops and Desktops and do not have the storage capacity you will end up needing.

Hybrids are the worse of the worse. The flip or detachable touch screens are just a disaster waiting to happen.

Never buy an All In One. They are far worst then laptops of any kind to service and they have a higher failure rate. My experience with them are limited because the few I worked on made me think they were designed in such a way as it would take a blow torch and a jack hammer just to disassemble them.

Choose wisely.

What laptop should I get? Or what kind should I be looking for?

Ken

I mainly use my current laptop for browsing the internet with anywhere from one to 30 tabs open on a browser. I would like to use it as a minor gaming laptop where I'll probably have three games on it at a time. I also have a ton of photos, music, documents for school, etc; thus, I'm guessing I'll need one with plenty of gigabytes in the hard drive.

If that really doesn't help, just tell me which recently released/current laptop is great for lasting long and for leisure use around for 4 hours a day.
I can't believe I forgot this part, at most I'll be paying around $600 or $700. So most Macbooks, if I were to even think about getting one, would be out of my wallet's range.

Answer
Going for gaming I see. Amazon is a very good place to shop for almost anything online, and they have some good gaming laptops, the ones I like myself would be the Asus brand. They perform so well and I've never had one problem with this brand. It's just plain out nice and all my games run excellent on it.
I went and found an Asus Gaming Laptop at Amazon for you, It's just above $1000 but you should check it out. Check out the specs, it's definitely worth the money.

Saw this laptop on QVC, just wondering if it is capable of running the Sims 3 & expansions smoothly. Thanks in advance!

1.80GHz AMD Phenom II quad-core mobile processor P960 (2MB L2 Cache)
8GB DDR3 RAM; maximum 16GB supported
640GB 5400RPM SATA hard drive
Radeon HD 4250 graphics with 128MB DDR3 RAM, up to 3195MB total memory

Answer
It should run fine, and smooth, but I wouldn't put it on max settings, you might be able to get away with mid-high settings.
Your processor is a little slow too, but it makes up for the speed a little bit because its a quad core. Sometimes you have to be careful with games with lots of Artificial Intelligence, like The Sims, they will use a lot of your processor's resources. But I am 99% sure it will be playable
Hope this helps

i mainly want it so i can play starcraft 2 and napoleon total war....does anyone know of a laptop within that price range that can play those 2 games without having any problems

Answer
I just recently purchased a HP Pavilion DV7-4177NR on QVC.com.

Specs Below
VISION technology from AMD with 2.9GHz AMD Phenom II dual-core mobile processor N640
17.3" diagonal high-def+ HP BrightView LED display, 1600x900 resolution
6GB DDR3 RAM
640GB 7200RPM SATA hard drive with ProtectSmart hard drive protection
LightScribe Blu-ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-RW drive, 2-layer support
802.11b/g/n wireless LAN
Bluetooth technology
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 switchable graphics with 512MB DDR3 RAM, up to 3197MB total memory
Beats Audio and HP triple bass-reflex subwoofer
Webcam, digital mic
HP SimplePass, integrated fingerprint reader
HP Clickpad
5-in-1 digital media reader: SD, MMC, MS, MS Pro, xD
Battery life up to 7.5 hours
3 USB 2.0 ports
HDMI, eSATA/USB, VGA, RJ-45 ports
Headphone/mic jacks

What makes this computer such an easy buy is that you can get it for 6 payments of $166.50 (Thats the before tax number...its more like 6 payments of $180.00. The computer comes to about $1,081 after tax... I have had this laptop since February 4th and so far I love it.

EDIT: The person that said "Don't even think about getting a Dell..." then they said "Get an AlienWare..." that person is retarded because Dell is the company that manufactures AlienWare.... Ignore that person. They obviously have no clue what they are talking about.

Ive been trying really hard to find a gaming laptop lately but I'm no computer genius haha. I would love a laptop that can run skyrim on at least medium settings and minecraft on high setting with no lag. I'm not amazing with computers so a lot of help would be incredible. Sadly though I can't go over 900 dollars. Thanks! :)

Answer
Choosing a laptop computer can depend on whether youâre looking for a cheap computer or if youâre looking for the best performance. I will focus on looking for the best computer according to its performance without taking into account its price. There are many factors that can be considered when choosing a laptop, but the most important features to pay attention to are processor speed and amount of RAM, CD-ROM, USB and floppy drives, and hard disk space.

I know that I want a PC but not sure what to look for. I just want a computer that will work and that I can do my school work on. I was recommended the Sony F series, can anyone comment if this is a good computer line to look into?
Budget (Max around $1500)

Answer
for 1500$ i could recommend anything lol. What i need are uses, whether or not u will be heavy gaming. Things like COD, crysis, starcraft........ not sims 3, sheesh, about every computer out there now can play that game.

But yeah, u shouldnt be paying over 900$ for a laptop without dedicated graphics, that means all it says is that it has intel hd 3000.

I recommend a laptop with a speedy dual core i5 2nd gen, 4gb ram, 320gb + hdd but make sure its 7200 rpm not 5400 rpm, nice screen, and possible blu-ray. Battery takes care of itself, most laptops with the i5/i3 sandy bridge dual cores get +4 hours and even more with a bigger battery.

try to aim for 13-14 inch laptops, cuz for me, i like to bring my laptop everywhere.

There are plenty of laptops that fit this bill,

inspiron 14r, hp dv4t, hp probooks, errrr asus is a really good brand. number one in the world.

Answer
I'm guessing you meant to type 400.00? if you're talking about here in the USA then $400 isn't much to be honest but if you are just planning on using for surfing the web and doing microsoft word then this would suit your budget HP - Pavilion 17.3" Laptop - 4GB Memory - 500GB Hard Drive - Sparkling Black check it out however if you plan on using for gaming or doing program editing or recording you need something better try the i5 or i7 proccessor I personally have a laptop with i5 processor its really nice your looking around $400-$1,000.

Please suggest some laptops with windows7, n i'm interested in gaming so suggest best one.....thanks

Answer
The most important thing in gaming is the graphics card and laptops suggested by VenuG are all lacking in good graphics. Its not possible to get a true gaming laptop for less than 40k ( desktop its possible) ..Here are two very good laptops though..they will play all games in medium..dont expect high / ultra in this price..some games may play high though..

What's a good gaming laptop under 900 dollars?

Joey

I want a laptop can run wow and battle field 3 and other demanding games for under 900 dollars

Answer
Wow is not a demanding game: you should be able to run it on almost any rig. Also, remember that there really is no such thing as a 'gaming' laptop. Any desktop of the same quality will be half the price, and you cannot easily upgrade bottle necking components over the years like you can on a desktop. Laptops are far less 'future proof' than a desktop is and cost more. If you want to do serious gaming, you should choose a desktop. If a laptop is a must, consider also getting a nice desktop (for games) and a cheap laptop (for work or college or whyever you need one).

If you're insistent on a gaming laptop, make sure it has at least 4 gigabytes of RAM, a video graphics card in the ATI 6000 series or Nvidia 500 series, and a good CPU, such as the Intel 2500k or higher.

How to connect my laptop to a 5ghz wireless connection?

best gaming laptops at best buy on Are sub-$200 laptops too basic to be useful? | PCWorld
best gaming laptops at best buy image

I ordered a great gaming laptop buy I now know that the wireless network card that is in it does not support a 5ghz connection with my router. What network card can I buy and install myself that would allow me to do this? The 5ghz connection is faster and better for wireless gaming.

Answer
EDIT: ok fine i guess N can run on 5ghz too(i thought it was only 2.4). But still i stand by my point that 5ghz doesn't mean the best/fastest, its the frequency. I knew 802.11a ran on 5ghz and was the slowest.

Well w/e, if you have 802.11N, you have the fastest wireless, just leave it at 2.4ghz, 5ghz wont make any difference. And i dont believe you need a wired connection for gaming. i havent played games on a wired connection in a while.

your ping is based on more then your connection speed (yes if you have lots of people torrent-ing on your connection it will lag). you actually dont even need a very good connection speed to play games. wireless g/n (with a good signal and no packet loss, with no other wireless interference) is more then enough to play any game or host a 16player match like it was nothing.

-the distance from you to your ISP
-the distance from you/your isp to the server client you are connecting to
-and in some games where players host (like alot of FPS), the distance from you to the server client to the game host.

thats basically the main factors of any game lag. and you can really do anything about those.

what gaming laptop should i buy 1500 budget?

Grim

I cant decide what gaming laptop to buy,i need something that i can game and record my gaming, please leave me suggestion.

Answer
First, you need to make sure you REALLY have a budget of $1500. Most people start off saying that they want to buy a laptop or computer, and they have a budget of $xxxx.xx, but then after a short conversation on the subject, they start whittling away at it... saying things like "well, I want to also buy this xxxxx with that money, and I would *like* to only spend $1000.00 if I can get away with it" etc. This means that their budget is not as large as they initially said.

However, if your budget is really $1500, consider getting a Sager. Why? I'll tell you.
Start with http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=product_info&model_name=NP8275 the 8275 for $1449.
What you get
-17.3" screen
-Nvidia GeForce GTX 770M GPU with 3GB GDDR5
-Intel® Core⢠i7-4700MQ Processor (2.40GHz), 6MB L3 Cache
-8GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz - 2 X 4GB
-750GB 7200rpm drive
-8X DVD±R/RW/4X +DL Super-Multi Drive
Etc....

Ok. I'm sure it all looks nice enough, but why the $1449 price tag? You can upgrade it. Sager notebooks are built on the Clevo notebook design, in that they are built to be upgraded. The video cards are all MXM standard, so they can be swapped out and replaced. That in and of itself is very important with a gaming laptop. But here's the deal.
What you can upgrade to in the future...
-Nvidia GeForce GTX 780M GPU with 4GB GDDR5 (or better... since when new MXM cards come out, you can use one of those)
-Intel® Core⢠i7-4930MX Processor Extreme Edition ( 8MB L3 Cache, 3.0GHz ) (again, you are just limited by the processor socket)
-32GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz - 4 X 8GB (that's a lot of Ram...).

.. and of course, you can drop a blu-ray drive in there, a second hard drive, or even use two SSD drives, etc. The point is, that rather than looking at replacing the laptop in a couple of years because you need better video, or a better processor... you can buy into the base line NP series Sager, and then just upgrade it like a desktop. In fact, if you wanted to, you could even consder the NP9500 series http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=product_info&model_name=NP9570 that uses desktop processors instead of laptop processors... if you really wanted to have mobile power.

So, for your budget, buy into Sager.

Q. Well, i wanted MW3 or BF3 on my laptop but it seems its too small. 11 inch and i always thought that when playing games on a monitor will boost up the game movements. True Or False?

Answer
False.

All that matters is screen resolution. Screen size really makes no difference (though, if there's a decent size difference, then you will lose performance).

What is the point of these windows 8 tablets?

Moon

I just think they are really overpriced and not necessary

I can get a $500 windows 8 laptop with better specs and performance and better keyboard than a windows 8 tablet

People had no problem with carrying around 11 inch laptops before so I don't see why these windows 8 tablets are valid when you get terrible specs for the price

look at the surface pro, for $900 I can get a gaming laptop and it comes with the keyboard

What is the best cheap gaming laptop for crysis 3?

Anisur

I want to buy a cheap gaming laptop under 400-500 us.so please give me some gaming laptop model.oh i want to play crysis 3 in medium or low settings.

Answer
Crysis 3 and other games will be played with no disruption in a laptop which has good processor and good memory which means it should have good memory. So by considering both of them Dell Inspiron 15 i15RV is one option for which you can go for and also it is of less than $500. It has technical features which include 3rd Generation Intel Core i5-3337U Processor (3M Cache, up to 2.7 GHz) which is really efficient. It has 4 GB DDR3 and 500 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive of storage. It has 15.6-Inch Screen and Windows 8. Lastly it has 6-cell battery which means you are going to have battery life of almost 3.30 hours.

Comment from an actual user can be really helpful in this regard because it will explain that how it actually performs. Here is a comment from an actual user:

Tilo

I am turning 14 and getting a job soon. What would be a good gaming laptop or desktop with a lot of memory for playing Warcraft 3, WoW, CoD, and many other RPG and shooting games?

Answer
With about 6-700 dollars you can buy a customized desktop that can play pretty much any game on at least high settings, people who really want the best benchmarks pay 1000+. For laptops, it will be much more expensive, for starters I would aim for at the minimum 4gb's of ram laptop and desktop, at least dual core 2.8+ or quad 2.5+, a nVidia 8800 card+, and go for at least a 700watt power supply if you're using a desktop.

What's all the parts needed to build a gaming desktop/laptop?

Ominious

I need a list of all the parts needed to build a computer. Preferably specific reccommendations of any parts you feel work really well.

I already have a laptop but I have to play World of warcraft with all settings on minimum an I still get lag sometimes, avg 14 fps and alot of the times 7-9 fps. It's simply horrid.

So I want to buy w.e parts I need for a gaming laptop or desktop. It will be just for gaming and nothingelse, no internet browsing, no music, no movies, nothing but gaming.

Answer
Motherboard
CPU
RAM
Graphics Card
Hard Drive
DVD drive
Decent power supply - not the crappy ones you get bundled with cases
Computer Case

Optional:

Sound card (most motherboards today have perfectly good sound capabilities).

Monitor and peripherals are down to your tastes, but bear in mind that very high resolution monitors require beefy graphics cards to get the best from them.

I think Intel's Core2Duo CPUs offer the best bang-for-buck right now, as do Nvidia 8000 series graphics cards. The 8800 GTS 640mb is the best performer-to-price card out there (the GTX is faster but more expensive) but it might be a bit too pricey still. If you can afford it, that's the card to get.

trigam41

I have a wireless network. I don't have a network adapter for my PlayStation 2, but there are USB ports on the front. Is there any way to use a wireless USB adapter [Linksys]?

Answer
I could make it a long answer but it doesn't need to be.

The answer is NO.

The USB of the PS2 is NOT connected to the internal ethernet controller so it is IMPOSSIBLE to hook it up to work this way. If you want wireless you can go with a Wireless Bridge OR use Cross CAT5 cables and a laptop that is on a wireless system.

Here is a nice OFFICIAL page from Playstation on the topic:

Take a look at these rankings:
http://blog.laptopmag.com/best-worst-notebook-brands-2013/3

Lenovo, Asus, HP, and Samsung are the top 4 laptop brands. I wouldn't consider any other brands.

You can check Fry's and Newegg.com on top of the mfg websites where they often have direct sale specials..

Dell makes Alienware and they are not worth the money charged.
Acer makes Gateway. You'd have to pay me to use one of their machines.
Sony hardware has generally been good, but they are notorious for putting huge amounts of crapware/bloatware on machines and gathering information on their consumers without their knowledge or permission.
Toshiba has bottomed the rankings. Personally, I have used them and never had a problem, but that does not appear to be the case any more.

OutOfLuck

I've got an older model (gateway, intel centrino, windows 7...can't really remember all the stats but it's around 3-4years old). It's good enough for anything work related/going online, But I'm thinking of getting a new one for under 500$.

Found a deal where the following was at or below my range:

- Toshiba Satellite C55-A5332

I'm looking for something with some decent software/programs already installed for reports/essays/presentations, etc. but also for gaming (nothing insane like alienware, but enough to skate buy with current PC games).

If the one above is good enough, or you have some suggestions in my price range, let me know.

Answer
For preinstalled software for Office applications, most new laptops come with Microsoft Office Trial preinstalled. This will work for 30 or 60 days, but then you have to purchase. Instead, consider LibreOffice, a full featured Office suite which will do almost everything Microsoft Office does and just as well, but is completely Free! It is fully compatible with Microsoft file formats so you don't have to worry about being able to view/modify/create Office documents. And did I say it was FREE!?

Take a look at these rankings:

For something to do gaming, you will need to raise your price point a bit. Gaming machines start at around $750. You can save a bit off that if you get a factory refurb or perhaps a model from last year or such. This should give you some ideas for gaming laptops:

What is the recommended configuration to be able to play the recent titles and that will still be a good machine in the next three years?
I am sensitive to price as well.

Answer
Get a desktop. I bought a laptop for gaming and was very disappointed despite it's spec. Laptops normally have integrated gfx instead of an independant (powerful) gfx card. Laptops tend to come with about 1.6ghz duo's. You really need to be verging on the 2.0ghz duo or higher mark.

Aim for:

2.0ghz duo +
2gb ram +
Decent gfx 512mb +

That will play some, not all. (on low-medium)

Answer
I think what youre asking does not match what your question is. Your concern is average battery laptop useage.

That depends. You have processors with lower and higher power requirements, you have integrated video and workstation/gaming videocards, you can have 1 fan or multiple fans... 12" LCD or 19" LCD... list goes on and on... and there are weaker and stronger batteries... if your concern is that the battery remaining does not state the time left, I would not put too much faith in that, it is only an estimate. Think of it as the signal bars on your cell phone, its just an indicator with an estimated reading.

How can I speed up my minecraft server and keep my game from lagging so much with only one laptop?

S3nkaku

I have a macbook pro 13 inch that I'm running a minecraft server on for my friend, brothers, and I, how can I speed up the server ans play the game on my laptop? I have a 1TB external hard drive that I was wondering if I could put my server files on and run as a live disc that would give me more computing power. I also was wondering how to fix my server so the I stop getting the [WARNING] Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the system overloaded? Any and all help here would be great, however while I pride my self on being rather tech savi and being able to fix almost any computer problem it would be most helpful if you could explain it in a s much detail and as specifically as possible since I'm new to the whole computer programming side of computers. Thanks.
My mac is running a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, has 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 of Memory, and is running Mac OS X 10.6.8.

Answer
You're overloading your system. Your system is trying to handle the server computations, your own game and the server-client interactions of four or more people. Offloading your server files to an external disk will probably only hurt your system because you aren't taking the files off your system. Your computer still has to run them, but instead of being on the 5400 RPM hard drive (unless you swapped it or upgraded it) running on your SATA II (or SATA III, doesn't matter, your hard drive is maxing out around 80MB/s regardless) you put it on USB 2.0 (Unless you JUST bought this MacBook Pro, you only have USB 2.0. Even if you have USB 3, remember the bottleneck still isn't your cable, it's your drive. Spinning media is slower than flash media every time.) and you cap your hard drive around 45MB/s. Plus, your computer still has to run those files, but now it can't access them nearly as fast. You don't fix your issue, you just exacerbate it. There's nothing you can do, code-wise, to make your computer faster. Your options are as follows, you can buy a new computer (because with a laptop you can't make many changes) or you can upgrade what two parts Apple will let you touch to make a few marginal speed improvements. Buying a new computer is clearly off the table since the laptop you just bought set you back right around a grand (fair enough, I have a 15" MacBook Pro and it's a great piece, just not as gaming oriented as my desktop).

First things first, you want to upgrade your RAM. You probably have 4GB tops, so we'll max it out. 16GB is the magic number across two sticks for 8GB a piece. Now, because I don't know exactly what model 13" MacBook you have, I'm going to go based on my own which is a late-2011 model. So 16GB is what you are looking for.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220659

That's memory I bought for my own computer. It works great and it does as advertised. Now, let me make something VERY clear. Increasing your RAM DOES NOT increase your computer's speed. It increases your computer's ability to multi-task meaning you can run more programs before you max out your computers physical memory and start to see a slow-down in overall performance. Your computer can spread CPU power a little thinner because programs can store more in the physical memory. Clearly, for the amount of multi-tasking you are doing, this is a good thing. Your only other real viable option for improvement is to upgrade your hard drive to a solid-state drive. Even then, an SSD only increases performance marginally. Access to programs is faster, rendering video would be faster and it will make your computer just run, overall, a touch faster because you are doubling or tripling access times to your drive. Let me put it this way. The Seagate drive in your computer right now will average around 80MB/s Read and about 50MB/s write. It's just slow because most people don't need wicked fast drives in order to surf the web, type essays or run Photoshop. I need a lightning quick drive because I'm rendering full HD video in real time and I need to be able to write as quick as I can read. The solid-state drive I purchased increased my read times to around 200MB/s and my write times to around 150MB/s. Double my read, triple my write. I can load Premiere Pro in half the time on my laptop because it's just quicker on the draw. The program runs worse because the CPU/GPU combo isn't as strong, but that's how it works.

Those are your only two real options for making a difference on your laptop. I'm not going to link you to the drive I bought because it cut my hard drive in half and I bought one for performance. SSD's aren't cheap. A 256GB SSD can run you anywhere from $150 to $300. Unfortunately, this is the only real route you can take. Aside from spending close a grand on some Thunderbolt external drives, you can't really do a whole lot because you don't have much space inside the computer. At the end of the day you are dealing with a laptop, and not just any laptop, but an Apple laptop. Those are the only two parts you can touch without voiding your warranty (technically, but let's see some techs argue that the upgrades I've done weren't for the good of the machine) and it's the only real way to make a performance difference. I wish you luck, but unless you offload either the server or the game onto another dedicated machine, you are pretty much SOL.
