Gaming Laptop Processor?

Adam

I am about to purchase a laptop for gaming and want to know whether MORE CORES or HIGHER GHz is better for gaming? The laptop im thinking of purchasing has AMD Quad-Core A-Series A8-3500M(1.5GHz) with AMD Radeon HD 6750M Dedicated Graphics Card. Will that run current games?

Answer
Don't get a laptop for gaming. Laptops are notorious for bogging down under a load. For games more speed is better but this is only half of the power needed. You also need a good video card. Only a desktop can provide enough power in the video card to run the games good. They can run on a laptop but very poorly.

gaming laptop please?

i want a gaming laptop with the same specs as this or near the same,
but with a dedicated nvidia graphics card, where can i buy one in stores?

Thanks!

Answer
Gaming and laptop doesn't go together, in my honest opinion.

I have an ASUS G73JH-BST7 I will sell you for 700 dollars. Here is a link of it playing Crysis on High settings with fraps. Without fraps it will max crysis.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnF7r1GlPBw&feature=channel_video_title

Asus G73 series Laptop
Intel i7 Quad-Core @ 1.73GHz
6GB DDR3 Memory
ATI Mobility Radeon HD5870
640GB HDD

I will put it on Ebay with a buy now price of 700, free shipping if you want it. I will offer money back if you don't like it - but you will!

It is in mint condition, and comes with a case. I even have Crysis 2, and a bunch of other games I will leave on it for you.

Answer
When people tell you to update your video card, they assume you have a desktop. Unfortunately laptop video cards can not be updated yet.

The best solution to help with lagging in games is to get the most up to date video card drivers.

is the GeForce GTX 460 video card old for June 2012?

Pierre

If so what would you recommend upgrading to, that is quick? Im looking for a really fast video card for Diablo III and Guild Wars 2 I just want to know if mine is old and if it should be swapped since it feels like its performance has been diminishing. I got it along with my notebook/laptop in mid 2011. Thanks!
Oh and im sorry i misstyped this but its a GeForce GTX 460M.
apparantly the 485m is the fastest out right now but i cant find a seller..what else would you recommend? I wouldnt be able to install the card that you just mentioned into my laptop Harin right?

Answer
The gtx 460m is still good for gaming it's just amd took off and jump two series above nvidia and nvidia followed by coming out with the kepler series , the gtx 675m is the fastest graphic card which will be followed by the gtx 680m which will hit the market soon, the minimum nvidia graphic card is the gtx 560m , now unless your laptop is custom made the graphic card in your laptop can't be changed

Answer

There is a detailed review of your video chipset.
Here are their benchmark results for Skyrim.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011)
low:38 fps Compare
med.:25 fps Compare
high:17 fps Compare
ultra:12 fps Compare
» With all tested laptops playable in detail settings low.

Now, I'm sure this makes no sense to you... so I'll spell it out. You can play the game with that video chipset at LOW settings. Otherwise, it will be laggy.

World of Warcraft gaming computer?

Judah S

http://www.ibuypower.com/Store/Gamer_Mage_D235

i am trying to buy a computer for my son but I don't know too much about computers. I was wondering if this computer would good for World of Warcraft and if you know a better computer thats around $600 then please put a link to it

Answer
I would say no because World of Warcraft is a pretty low graphic game. You don't need something like that to play it a normal business laptop or desktop will be perfectly fine. Secondly, don't buy computers that is not main stream. The chance of you running into troubles and the cost to fix it would be a lot high than if you were to buy from Dell or Sony. Now my suggestion are for WOW specifically. If you want to also play others games like Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, or other high end games then maybe a gaming computer might be more suitable for you. I hope this help. Good luck picking your computer.

Laptop/World of Warcraft help?

aaron

I've been looking for laptops pretty extensively lately, but I'm not computer savvy. I enjoy playing World of Warcraft, I don't really enjoy playing on my family PC, too much clutter-doesn't run smooth.
So I just want to migrate over to my own laptop that I can recreationally use and play my game at an ideal speed and play it comfortably.

I'm looking to spend up to 900$ really since I'm not a hardcore gamer, I just play one game so I'm just not really trying to buy an overly expensive gaming laptop that holds a crazy amount of space that won't be used properly.

I was looking at a couple models that consist of:

Dell Inspiron 17R SE:
3rd Generation Intel® Core⢠i5-3210M processor (3M Cache, up to 3.1 GHz)
8GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 Memory
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M GDDR5 2GB

Acer Aspire V3-571G-6407(15 inch laptop):
Intel Core i5 3210M 2.5 GHz (3 MB Cache)
4 GB SDRAM
500 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M

If you have any other suggestions I would greatly appreciate it, thank you.

Answer
Actually, Laptops can't really compare against a desktop in terms of power but that ain't much.

I've been playing with my laptop which is three years old now and yet i can still play guild wars 2, battlefield 3, Modern warfare 3 and Age of Conan.

Lenovo G560 for $900 with specs:

Intel i3 2.3 ghz
6gb ram ddr3
Nvidia GForce 310m 512mb

Ok, not the best laptop out there but I can still play games at low-med settings.

I've had previous laptops that I use to play recent games and do my work and all I can say is that the life of your laptop depends on how you actually take care of them.

Laptop and desktop lifespan are almost the same but upgrading a laptop is really limited. Where desktop are a bit longer. And desktop are easier to repair.

The only reason laptop gamers uses a laptop is I can bring it anywhere I want. Of course, if we want better graphics and super cool rendering then we let the desktop do that.

It all depends on what you want to do. Mine rather than buying an expensive high end gaming laptop I always pick the ones with dedicated graphics at lower price range and build a desktop with the remaining funds. But hey, everyone got a different viewpoint in life. (",)

For WOW, that laptop is ok.

I was looking into the Alienware M11x, but I see alot of people trash talk it. Does anyone on here have any good suggestions for gaming laptops around 800-1100$? People say that alienware is over priced trash but from looking around I cannot find a laptop that has the same specs for the same price. Please help!

11 inch laptop capable of basic gaming?

Nuclear_Un

Hi, I have been looking for an 11 inch laptop with a long battery life and is capable of basic gaming (everything up to saints row: the third on medium). It also has to be under $1000. Good luck and thank you in advance

Answer
Well usually the specs are laid out for you to check out. And commonly the laptops which were designed for gaming have separate GPU( Graphic Precessing units) for eg. Nvidia,ATI etc..
Bigger RAMs and a 'Fast' Processor.

Now in my experience, These usually don't come with 11 inch screens, Because well, usually gamers tends to see their games better with bigger screens.

There are well performing 11 inchers out there though, although i think they would better suited for basic gaming only. I recommend MSI and some Dell models.
Good Luck.

Question about GTA 5 and pc laptops.?

Lsa

I just have few questions to ask i hope you don't mind :)

Now i have heard rumors that GTA 5 will come out to pc gamers is that true? And if that is true can my new laptop handle it? And if not can i buy something or download something to make the game work?

I don't have much technical detail on my laptop, it's new and it's an Asus design.
(I know nothing about computer technology ha ha)
Like i said i am not a computer geek, if you want me to remove a bullet from someones body or stop a bleeding or what not i can do that but me and computers don't see eye to eye.

I bought a laptop that for the purpose of studying, not gaming but i am wondering if there is some memory chip i can attach to it or something like that.

Answer
You don't have any technical detail at all. All you show is a brand name.
To make a guess as to whether it is expected to be playable on your laptop, you will need to list the CPU as Intel or AMD something, and if it uses the CPU graphics or has a separate graphics card, and what the card is, if it has one, and how much DRAM memory sticks from 2 to 8 gigabytes.

You can download Belarc Adviser that provides a system inventory.

Answer
Laptop or PC?

To run all the modern games today you need intel i5 > 2.5 GHZ boost up to 3.0+ GHZ (Or AMD equivalent), and a graphic card > Nvidia 9600M-GT or AMD Radeon HD 6470M and above.
The 1 GIG or 2 GIG GT640M appears to be a decent mobile video card.
Oh and 6 GIG 1333MHZ/1600MHZ DDR3 RAM, although you can add this your self.

Gaming Laptop Vs. Gaming Desktop -- Pros/Cons?

Twistedbla

Background: So I'm considering getting a $1,500 gaming laptop come this June. I'll be using it for college coming up so I really needed a laptop as well as an upgrade for my current rig.

Pt. 1: What I'm wondering is what am I suffering in buying a gaming laptop rather than a gaming desktop. List pros and cons.

Pt. 2: Being a hardcore gamer (40+ hrs/week) can a laptop handle my lengthy gaming periods?

Answer
Gaming Desktop:

Pros: Cheaper than a similar performing laptop, upgradeable, newer parts/technology always come out for the desktop first

Cons: Not portable.

Gaming Laptop:

Pros: Portable, can offer same performance as a desktop if you have money.

Cons: More expensive than a similar performing desktop, not upgradeable (except for the hard drive), newer parts/technology come out later than a desktop.

A laptop will never on a battery, handle your gaming periods. If you plug it into the wall socket using the provided charger/AC adapter, you'll be fine, of course.

Unless you plan on gaming on the go, I recommend that you just get a mid-level laptop ($500-$700 US) for college and use the rest of your cash to upgrade your current rig or build a new one.

Portable Gaming Laptop?!?

Hello, I'm trying to find a light laptop that can run computer games on high graphics, I am using an asus g73 right now and it is just to big to be carrying around all day. My price range is between 600-1300$ any help?
The kinds of games I'll be running are SC2, SWTOR, and WoW preferably on the highest graphics

Thanks!

Answer
Toshiba has some nice laptops, so does Asus. Try to find something with a dedicated video card so you are not sharing RAM. 4GB of RAM if you can manage to find one get 8GB. Something in the 2.50Ghz+ range. Good transfer rate on the hard drive is a good thing to.

Whats a good gaming LAPTOP?

Khrylis

I really need it to be under £200

Answer
Under 200 pouds british sterling? They don't exist. Gaming machines, by definition require high end video and high end processors and preferably, lots of RAM. You cannot find those things for that price.

Lenovo and Asus make gaming laptops which are about as reasonable as any on the market and they are ranked number one and two among Windows laptop mfgs. (See: http://blog.laptopmag.com/best-worst-notebook-brands-2013/3)

Go to their sites and search for gaming machines and you will find what you are after, but what you are saying is your spending limit is about 1/3 of a bottom end gaming machine.

If you go to Newegg.com, you can find a good selection of refurbished laptops, but even there, what you are saying is your spending limit is a bottom of the barrel machine period, let alone a gaming machine

Answer
Most reliable laptop brands: the results

Apple tops the list, as might be expected from such a premium PC builder. Apple products are far from cheap, but they do offer a quality experience. Runner up Dell has a very different business model. It, like other high-ranking brands HP and Asus, operates as a volume laptop maker, selling many thousands of laptops every week. We would expect to see them, and Lenovo, high up in our list because they sell so many PCs: but their higher ranking suggests a lot of satisfied customers.

Apple: 19%
Dell: 12%
Asus: 11%
HP: 11%
Acer: 9%
Lenovo: 9%
Toshiba: 9%
Samsung: 7%
Sony: 6%
Alienware: 3%
Fujitsu: 1%
MSI: 1%
Panasonic: 1%
I do not agree with this. But this was the results of a large survey...

That is a great question, hope I was able to help. Good Luck...

How to connect my laptop, monitor, and a graphics card for a game?

TimidNight

I have a laptop with an integrated gpu (Intel GMA x3100) and a hdtv monitor (Samsung SyncMaster p2370HD). It's a Dell Studio 1735 that I got for Christmas in '09. I originally bought the monitor because the screen is destroyed on my laptop, and I needed a fix. Also, I love to play the sims 3 (which is the only pc game I play), but the game crashes on me. I thought getting an external monitor would fix that problem too but it hasn't really. The picture is now crystal clear, but it still crashes sometimes maybe after an hour of playing. I have all the requirements for the game, but my graphics card is just meeting the requirements (yougamers says my processor is optimized but my video card is on the minimum line so it brings my overall performance to the minimum line).

From what I think I understand about computers, I have to have a graphics card that can handle the monitor and the graphics cards in laptops can't be switched out unless it's discrete. So I think my only options are to open my laptop (which I did only once to see how the screen was connected when it broke) and see if I have a pci or agp port to connect a discrete gpu or to connect a discrete gpu to the monitor. My computer connects to my monitor through the hdmi port. The monitor also has a dvi port.

My questions are
Is it possible to connect my laptop to the monitor via the hdmi while another graphics card (external) is connected to my monitor via the dvi?

and

If yes, what graphics card to you recommend (I'm a student who wants something good that could even play sims 4, if and when it comes out, but not considered expensive)?
If no, are there any guides for opening up my laptop model and what other options do I have besides buying another laptop?

Thank You ^-^
I meant pci-e... My books that came with my computer say it has a 32 bits pci-e x16 graphics bus, but it also says I have a Radeon HD 3650 which I'm almost certain I don't have because I have the Intel. So I think I'm going to have to open it to make sure I have the bus for a graphics card.

Answer
1st off no there is no way you can upgrade the intergraded graphics chip in your laptop. Besides maybe adding some system RAM there is no way to upgrade ANYTHING in your laptop.
It sounds like your laptop is overheating & crashing after gaming for an hour & thats normal for a laptop, they were never designed to game in the 1st place.
If you want to do some hardcore gaming for hours at a time get a desktop PC. They can be built to game for hours, cooled with extra fans & can be upgraded quite easily.

Is this graphics card good enough to game on my laptop?

Mohammed F

I've got this graphics card on my laptop, a mobile intel 4 series express chipset family and i want to know if it's good enough to game with on my laptop. I've got 3gb ram, 2.2 ghz and i've got vista basic 32 bit. If it isn't could you tell me how to upgrade the card, if there is any way. Thanks in advance.
Got any ideas how to upgrade the graphics card on it?
Got any ideas how to upgrade the grapgics card on it?

Answer
Game?

Like.. Starcraft? Sure. Original Quake and Quake 2? Sure.
How about running a Nintendo SNES emulator... that would work great. Railroad Tycoon? Sure. Well... there are all different versions... the game has existed since the Commodore64...

So yeah. It would work for games.

unless you mean new games.. or graphics intensive games... then that card would suck and it would not allow you to play games. Like the newest Railroad Tycoon. No way. Crysis? Nope. Farcry? Nope.

So what kind of games? There have been computer games as long as there has been a computer.

Unless you are one of those people who just has no clue, and you think games are games.

Some games, yes. Some games, no.

THIS IS WHY THE BOX FOR THE GAME HAS MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS WRITTEN ON IT!!!!!

Upgrade the card? AHHAHAHAH.. sorry. You should have paid more attention to what you were buying.

Let me spell it out for you. There are laptops that are gaming laptops.. then there is everything else. A laptop designed to play games will be able to do EVERYTHING ELSE a laptop or desktop could do. This is why gaming laptops cost so much. Because if you can't do it (whatever it is, edit video, use as a portable recording studio, play games, etc) with a gaming laptop, you can't do it. So. You have right there, for all intents and purposes, a NON GAMING LAPTOP. You want a laptop that plays "games", you will need to replace the entire laptop. That video card is built into it.

Best Windows 8 Laptop?

Michael

I am looking to buy a Windows 8 laptop. My budget is $1800 but I prefer not to go that high and would like to stay in the $1500 range. I am going to be doing the regular things on my laptop along with gaming. Here is what I'm looking for in a new laptop:
- Intel i7 Processor
- 8 gb RAM
- Good graphics card (At least NVIDIA GT 640m, more is preferred and 2gb wouldn't hurt :))
- Stylish (I don't want a bulky computer, ultrabook is preferred if possible)
- Good Battery Life (About 4 hours is enough)
- For storage, 500 gb is more than enough

I had been looking at the Dell XPS 15 because it met all my specifications and it was very stylish even though it was a little pricey. However, I read many reports of people having problems so I'm not considering that anymore. Although, if these problems have been fixed by Dell, it would definitely be back in my list.

Answer
There are no gaming ultrabooks, because powerful GPUs like GT 640M cannot be cooled iside such a small chassis. If you want a midrange/high-end GPU with a regular core i7 you have to get a normal laptop.
Take a look at Sony Vaio S : http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SYCTOProcess?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&LBomId=8198552921666495150&categoryId=8198552921644768015
It has all your requirements, looks sleek and on top of it all has a full HD IPS screen !!, IPS screens are very hard to find in Windows laptops. And they look gorgeous.

Do torrent games low fps ?

Dime

I downloaded skyrim and nfs mw 2012 "on my laptop having i5 3210M And Gt650m which according to notebook check game both run on high settings with 35-40 fps but they are giving only 15-25 fps i dont get it :/ and its using the nvidia gpu. plz help

Answer
if you're torrenting something while playing the game yes it will in fact cause your FPS to drop.in some cases significantly.and on older machines you may not even play a game at all while using a torrent (and before people get on my back about torrenting games some sites like Indie Humble Bundle allow you to use torrents to get the installers)

laptop brand with THE BEST quality?

Tony Boeld

In the coming months I am looking to buy a new laptop. I would like to know which company has the best build quality, longevity and repair ability that rivals all other brands. I know personally to stay away from Acer, Gateway, Emachines, and Apple since in my experience, that have poor build quality, don't last very long and have a distinct lack of repair ability so those are already out of the question. So is there any good suggestions?

Answer
Listening to a single opinion will not do any good unless they are in the laptop repair business, and even at that, warranty is handled by the manufacturer and sales volumes may skew percentages.
Apple MacBooks, being cultlike and highly reliable in the first 18 months gets skewed high results, but the rest is valid:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2020725/apple-macbooks-lead-in-laptop-features-and-reliability.html

http://www.pcworld.com/article/211402/laptops.html
Three years 2012, 11, 10.

Now, I worked in Procurement Engineering for Thinkpad components for many years. I also worked with the actual manufacturers and true designers of the industry, as almost zero design work is at Acer, and very limited at HP, and now also limited at Dell. Lenovo G series "essentials" are the same industry products as those. Gateway is now a low end of Acer as is Packard Bell in Europe. Compaq is now another HP brand.
Lenovo's three lines are very distinct as Thinkpad, Ideapad, and Essentials. Thinkpad T and X series are the premium of the industry, but you will not find high end gaming graphics. Thinkpad in general is good. Samsung is shifting from internal assembly to OEM on more models. Toshiba low end also are the same generics while their business levels copy some Thinkpad features.
In general, try to avoid the very cheapest laptops as usually you are getting approximately what you pay for at the low end.
Asus, Samsung, Sony, Lenovo Ideapad Z and Y series and Thinkpads are generally the more reliable set of laptops as a whole.
According to surveys, Acer-Gateway, HP-Compaq, Dell tend to be more problematic, but it does not mean every one made is bad.
Performance for the money should be factored in.
Graphics strength is judged by gaming ability:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html
CPU strength by a passmark score is OK to use:
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php

Try to ignore adjective words like "stunning, lush, thin, light, smooth, fast, etc." and look for clear data. "up to" for a battery life between charges is not very helpful, but understand higher performance with the same battery is shorter battery life. The "up to" is with wireless off, screen set low, lowest CPU and graphics of a series, application running minimum. An HP customized with choices of CPU and graphics will show a very high "up to" hours.

Generally, the best you can buy is Lenovo T or X series. They are a business laptop. I know how they are designed, produced, and tested. Many have roll cages to minimize dropping damage, spill trays to reduce liquid damage, carbon fiber or fiberglass impregnated with resins instead of a painted plastic, premium keyboards and screens, lid latching, metal hinges, shock absorbers, battery management features with the AC/DC circuit designed at the Japan labs formerly IBM. They do not price as high as Apple Macbooks, but they are not cheap. They are milspec design found on the space shuttle/station and in military use. They have some tablets with gorilla glass, and even the Ideapad Yoga is a neat design coming off of the Thinkpad Twist.

A laptop is not upgradable for CPU and graphics after you buy it generally. Typically look at the high end of the pricing range you have in mind first, and then compare to cheaper models of various companies.

General PC sales global as a total have HP and Lenovo near tied for #1,2, Dell and Acer near tied 3,4, Asus #5 as the major players, but note that companies like Toshiba and Samsung are not selling Desktop PCs.

Consider also that Windows 8 is very much designed for touch screens, though there is software available that makes to look closer to Win 7

Trying to play Arma 2 on high, War Z, and Shogun total war

Answer
IdeaPad Y480 Laptop - 20938RU at Lenovo.com as a 14" has i7-3630QM and GT 650M 2GB and 8GB system ram for $750 plus tax. The Y580 with the GTX 660M is better but is $850 and up.
Quality survey shown here:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/244419/laptop_reliability_and_satisfaction_macbooks_rule.html
HP and Dell disappoint.
Acer with a 2nd generation i7 and GT 640M:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215541
Samsung with a 3rd generation i5 and 7730M:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834131394&name=Laptops-Notebooks

Some games are listed here that show directly what each can do:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html
Arma 2 is only shown Ultra, but should be similar in performance to Dirt 3 or Skyrim.
GT 650M is sufficient for high settings. GT 640M and HD 7730M are borderline high settings. Anything lower would be totally unacceptable.
warZ is not clearly defined, but should play very well on all three.
Shogun 2: Total war shows recommended GeForce GTS 240 HD 6570. G3D about 850 or higher to achieve very high settings.
GT 650M is a 1242. GT 640M should be about 1000 and are acceptable.

Also note, should have at least the CPU of a good i5.
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php
A10-4600M and Intel Core i3's are too low.

So, look for GT 650M, GT 640M, HD 7730M plus Intel Core i5M or better to achieve what you want.

Best gaming laptop for under $800?

Vivi

I need a gaming laptop that's as good as i can get for up to $800, no higher. It can not be a dell, gateway, or hp. The screen has to be 15 inches or more. A webcam is preferred but not required.

Can anyone give me some suggestions?
Ps - No, i cant build one myself.
I know 800 isn't alot to work with but its not my money and i'm not the one buying it so i cant complain.

Answer
The best gaming laptops are alot more than 800 but come with great hardware, there may be ok laptops for 999 or so,but you have to understand hardware is expensive a gtx 580 gpu goes for 1000 bucks alone on ebay even good amd 69 series arent cheap. If you want to see alot of eye candy 800 wont do it..A good ssd around 300 to 500.You say no dell or gateway, the asus g51 is a great laptop you may find reman or on sale in your range. My laptop has a 2960 cpu and dual gtx 580s its far from overkill as games get more demanding.I play battlefield3 mostly max.But next year mine could be middle of the road.I would ck outlets and sales.Good luck,a true gaming laptop with at least a gtx 560m to 580gtx with core i7 good ram etc is more than 800.Cheapest good gamer Ive seen was about 1200 on sale an asus.Maybe soon prices will drop as newer tech arrives.

Answer
hi there.

Minecraft is a big CPU/RAM hog, so we know you need as much combined CPU power as possible, therefore we know you need quadcore and as much ram as possible.

We know your budget is 900$ and we know you just want the straight up dope with none of that fanboy bull.

The options for CPU's are High end AMD A8 or any quadcore i7 processors.

Since you also want the option to play demanding games, I think a mid range Video card will fit into the 900$ budget, I.E. enough GPU power to play the most demanding games at medium settings with atleast 28 FPS.

I also want to note, that notebookcheck, is no longer reliable/accurate as they are now a little bit more then heavily Biased against anything AMD, I think their writers may be taking bribes from Intel, its also a proven fact, that Intel has in the past done the same things and is now barred from selling certain hardware in Europe due to court rulings against them.
now since this isnt about them but about finding a good laptop, I will show you proof if you contact me via email.

Here we see the same laptop you have found on Amazon except this one comes fully loaded with 16 gigs of ram a blueray drive, the GPU is on the lower end of Medium But, it will do the job you seek.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-HP-DV6T-QUAD-CORE-LAPTOP-NOTEBOOK-I7-750GB-16-GB-LOADED-BLU-RAY-/170830502446?pt=Laptops_Nov05&hash=item27c64a9a2e

Here is a laptop with 8 gigs of ram but a much better GPU then the first choice also NEW
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-HP-dv6tqc-i7-2670QM-AMD-7690-BluRay-BT-FR-8GB-750HD-15-6-/221005475674?pt=Laptops_Nov05&hash=item3374f3ef5a

This is an HP ENVY, their top of the line highest quality everything, but its refurbished, notice the screen resolution:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-ENVY-15-Core-i7-1080p-8GB-DDR3-HDMI-1GB-ATI-HD-7690M-BEATS-AUDIO-Notebook-PC-/110868565736?pt=Laptops_Nov05&hash=item19d0480ee8

The next place I would recommend you visit is HP Business outlet, the refurbished laptops are mostly canceled orders, I.E. they never even left the factory, but cannot be sold legally in USA as new:
http://h71016.www7.hp.com/html/hpremarketing/daily.asp
Click on High performance notebooks
Click on "Outlet List price" to sort the items by price, from cheapest top costly bottom.
The laptops you are searching for must be AMD A8 and the number at the end must have MX, MX simply means its their higher end APU's, easy to identify, Example:
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/AMD-A8-Series%20A8-3550MX.html
Or i7 chips the listing also has to have a 7690 ATi GPU
At the moment it looks like they have none available, if you really want to wait, every so often they refill the list.
Another option is to Configure your own laptop, you can get away with a DV6 by adding A8 3550MX CPU and 7690 GPU upgrades, add a 25$ coupon code that you can google and come out about 700$ total (basically what I did)
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&a1=Category&v1=High+performance&series_name=dv6zqe_series&jumpid=in_R329_prodexp/hhoslp/psg/notebooks/High_performance/dv6zqe_series

The reason I recommend HP is because their quality is above average, the quality of the internal components is above average and their laptops, like ASUS tend to come with multiple USB 3.0 slots, this is a very big sign of higher quality components and Quality control competence.
they also have regular good deals, I.E. you have a good chance of getting the best bang for the buck with them.

The reason other companies did not fall into my answer was because it looks like HP has the laptop hardware you seek within the price range.

the only other company that came close was Dell, BUT, they have a horible BBB track record
http://www.google.com/#hl=en&sclient=psy-ab&q=dell+bbb+complaints&oq=Dell+BBB+com&aq=1v&aqi=g-l1g-v1g-j1&aql=&gs_nf=1&gs_l=hp.1.1.0i13j0i15j0i18.947.3361.0.6078.12.12.0.0.0.0.460.4816.3-5j7.12.0.bR49L9kMnrM&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=fe2819027d67eb6c&biw=1920&bih=858
I personally had a problem with them, they made a massive blunder with the design of their XPS 13 inch laptops where opening the lid to the very end causes heat to stop exiting the laptop, in turn causing the bottom plate to become very hot, their quality control is as if doesnt exist.

any one is welcome to contact me if assistance is required regarding notebooks and laptops.

Is there any gaming laptop with a cool outside shape like Alienware under 900$?

Desktop or Gaming laptop?

Evan

Hello, I have been looking for a good gaming PC for a while now and I was wondering what other people had in mind. I am looking at either getting a gaming desktop or a gaming laptop. My budget is around $1700. I would like something that is able to play any game at high settings at 35+ fps. If anyone has any suggestion please post them, also if you know of any gaming PC sites please post them. Also I have been looking at 2 gaming laptops particularly. The ASUS G74sx-A1 and the Sager np8810 (It's the one with dual GTX 560m's). So if you have any sites/suggestions/ or builds please post them.

Answer
It's good to choose what you want first: A gaming laptop or a gaming desktop.

Get a laptop if you want to take it a lot to other places, like school e.g. But if you're just gonna plant somewhere and barely move it then it's better to get a desktop. Gaming laptops are more expensive, get hotter and obviously have smaller screens than gaming desktops. Choose wisely.

For desktops: For that money you can get any high-end video card from ati or nvidia, like the 6970 or gtx570. Get a high end amd processor or something like an intel i7 and 4-8gb ram with it. That will run any game perfectly.

For notebooks: The laptop with the dual gtx 560m's sounds good to me. Any gaming laptop around 1700 dollars should run any game fine.

If you want to see how a notebook graphics card performs, check this site, it's great:

Which laptop has the best graphic card and battery life? I will be using it as a "gaming laptop" to take on long trips.

Answer
It's hard to find the right balance of Graphics Card power VS Battery Life, getting more out of one generally means losing out on the other.

If you're looking for a small laptop for long trips then i'd also have to recommend the Dell XPS m1330, it's a decent laptop for gaming and has a good battery life depending on what you're doing.

Now if you really want to blow you're socks off you should go with the Killer Notebook's Executioner SR, the battery life ain't so hot BUT it's easily the best value for money with it's massive screen and powerful graphics card. There's also the Killer Notebooks Odachi which is coming out sometime this month that sports Dual nVidia GeForce Go 7950 GTX in SLi configuration if you're really into having a bleeding edge gaming laptop ;)

But then again if you'll be using the laptop for "long trips" the Killer Notebook options, although awesome, will never last more than an hour off mains power so it might be best to stick with the Dell m1330 (on average 3 hours depending on what you're doing) :)

Which type of Laptop Cooler is best?

Spike

I have a Dell Studio 1555 Laptop that I purchased a year or two ago and lately we have noticed how hot it gets, especially when playing any form of game (flash or otherwise). During a recent trip to Staples we started thinking about getting a cooling pad to help keep it a bit more cool and improve performance. First off, are laptop coolers even a good, safe idea to use or will it create stress on the system? Secondly, there were two types available we saw, one that takes air from under the cooler and pushes it to the laptop and one that takes air from under the laptop and pushes it out from under the cooler. It seems like the vents and one near the fan on the bottom of the laptop suck air into it and push it out a fan in the back on my particular model. With that in mind would pushing air towards the laptop even cool it to begin with, would pushing air away cause a battle between the cooler and laptop for the air underneath, or would either keep it cool as to not need the internal fan as much. Finally are there any relatively cheap brands or models that anyone can suggest if it is indeed a worthy investment? Thanks in advance!

Answer
I own the one at the link below. I bought it in November 2008 when I bought my laptop. I used the laptop as a desktop. I used it up until February 2010 when i built my desktop. That and my laptop was pretty much on 24/7 that whole time. I like that it comes with an AC adapter but can be powered off a USB port on the laptop. It also has a built in 4 port USB hub which came in very handy. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

PC Strategy Games????

Hello everyone, i have a new macbook pro laptop but i happen to know that I am getting a program called Parallel which will allow me to run windows simultaneously with my mac operating system so ill be getting back into pc gaming! I dont like starcraft 2 and really used to enjoy games like Age of Empires but that game is pretty old at this point. Do people still play this game? Regardless tho, what are some of the better strategy games on the market that are like age of empires?

Best budget gaming desktop PC?

Echo1130

Ok, I know gaming computers and tight budgets donât mix, but I kinda need them to. Iâm looking for a somewhat decent desktop that is still within a somewhat limited price range. It doesnât have to be an Alienware or anything, but I kinda need something thatâs relatively powerful. In other words, whatâs the absolute best performance+price Iâm gonna get with $550? I knowâitâs pathetic. :/ Iâm just sick of my $300 laptop which can hardly play older games like Morrowind (2002), for example.

Answer
that 550 usd is perfect ;) Heres a link which has all the parts for a pc in that exact price range. http://www.gamersnexus.net/pc-builds/46/602-september-budget-pc-2011

dell and alienware do too. i think u guys should look at the asus f3 and tell me what u think as well as the asus a8

Answer
While Alienware may have been the gaming choice in past years, I would have to disagree these days. They haven't shown the ability to keep their cost down with the improving technology gamers crave. Their Aurora m9700 (starting at $1599) has only a Geforce 7900 utilizing only up to 512 mb video memory.

HP, on the other hand, has made great strides in improving their entertainment technology while continuing to keep the cost to the customer down. Check out the HP Pavilion Model dv9535nr (at Best Buy for $1399.99). It features the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS graphics with 256MB dedicated video memory and up to 1GB total video memory. You would be very hard pressed to find better mobile graphics technology than that, particularly for under $2k.

No matter which computer you prefer, as a gamer, I would recommend staying far, far away from anything with ATI video. Learn from my horrible experience and stay as far away from ATI as possible. I'm very pleased that HP figured it out and dropped ATI.

Toshiba used to be good for gaming, but they've fallen behind in the past few years, particularly when it comes to graphics. I take issue with Sony as a company - their customer support is lacking at best.

Acer is catching up as far as specs go, but I've had problems with them in the past and when I asked the guy at Best Buy today how their reliability has been he sounded just like I did years ago when I had one. They always claim it's a software problem. Odd how Acer computers seem to be the only ones with this "software" problem.

As for the Dell XPS, compare their specs with the HP I mentioned and then compare the price. Even their $2299 model only offers the NVIDIA GeForce 7900 with a measly 256MB video memory. Seriously, anybody who forks over that kind of money for something so subpar as far as gaming goes hasn't done their homework.

I haven't had personal experience with Asus laptops, but I believe even their top model is using only the Geforce 7700 with shared video ram (dedicated ram is better for graphics intense games). Asus tends to use ATI in many of their models and ATI simply does not favor gaming nearly as well as NVIDIA.

Stick with NVIDIA graphics and as much video ram as you can get. Go with a dual core processor (if you go with intell, I would recommend the 5250 or better). At about $1400, that HP I mentioned is the hottest thing in the price range.

Edit: The Sager 2090 is comparable to the HP I already mentioned except it has half the hard drive space, only a 15" monitor (active matrix - not HiDef), and still does not feature up to a full gig of video memory. It does feature the higher processor for the price range.

Gaming laptops?

b

between the laptops from sony, hp, and dell, which has the best notebook computers and which model is best? preferably under $1500

Answer
if u re looking for a gaming laptop, then it's definitely dell among the 3

do take note that most gaming laptops are not cheap, the price tag is usually more than ur budget

for those that re below that, it won't take u quite far if u play games with it

and also consider that gaming laptops are ususlly bulky and heavy, thus defeating the major purpose of a laptop, which is mobility

however, if u re still keen on looking for a gaming laptop within ur budget, i can suggest the following:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T7000 series
RAM: 2GB, especially if u run Vista
Graphic: settle for no less than an nVidia GeForce 8400M GT, anything below that is crap for gaming
Monitor: 14.1"
other parts re up to u...

perhaps u would be interested with the spec of my laptop

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220395
is it used because your ripping somebody off it will play any modern game at medium settings but not at full hd because of slow ram

Is this laptop good value for money?

Dan

Not looking for anything overly expensive or hardcore, just something that will be able to perform basic tasks and handle medium performance games (e.g. Football manager and Assassin's Creed).

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/laptops-netbooks/laptops/laptops/samsung-series-3-np3530ec-15-6-laptop-silver-17056552-pdt.html

Cheers

Answer
It will do basic tasks well, but it won't play games like Assassin's Creed. TBH, if you want to play games and don't have a big budget, buy a console.

For example, Assassin's Creed 3 specs recommend a GTX 545 GPU. That is a desktop graphics card which is fairly cheap. However, the laptop graphics chip of equivalent power is very expensive.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834313581

That is the cheapest laptop that matches the recommended specs and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834313582 is the cheapest one worth buying.

That blows your budget by 2-3x.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834312828

This one will play the original Assassin's Creed, and probably Football Manager 14

Good Gaming Computer 2011?

Eric

Hello, I am looking for a good gaming computer with an i7 processor and at least 16GB of RAM that is 1,000$ Or less. Thank you and if you could provide a link to the computer that would be great! REMEMBER Computer NOT Laptop

Answer
You can just build your own computer, by buying the parts and putting them together. That would save you LOTS of money.
parts you might want to consider:
processor: i7 2600k
GPU:GTX 560 or Radeon HD 5850
ram is really your choice, because you want 16gb. But in my own opinion you really don't need that much.
Probably 6-8gb is good for gaming.
I hope you have fun building a comp. :D

Best Gaming laptop for under $1000 dollars?

Thomas

I'm 13 year's old and I go on the computer quite often I have a crappy Acer laptop that can't run any games not even stupid flash games on miniclip.com. I am looking for a gaming laptop that will be able to run minecraft no problem with at least 4 gigabytes of ram and a hardrive with more then 500 gb. The only catch is it has to be under $1000 dollars. I only get paid $100 dollars per semester if I get strait A's in school wich will be extremely hard. Please help me and if you guys now an easy way for a 13 year old to get money id like that.
THANKS!!

Answer
Well here's a great gaming laptop for under 1000 Dollars:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dell+-+XPS+15.6%26%2334%3B+Laptop+-+8GB+Memory+-+750GB+Hard+Drive+-+Elemental+Silver/5773281.p?id=1218694833932&skuId=5773281

It can run any game that came out in 2011 and before on high graphics without lag but would probably run recent games on medium to high graphics. It's a really great laptop for its price and would really recommend you to get it. Though, if you're planing on buying a laptop in like 6 to 9 months from now, i'd say wait until then and then start looking for a laptop to buy because by then there would probably a lot of better laptops for a cheaper price than there are now. Good luck on getting good grades though and I hope you enjoy the laptop if you buy it! =)

When will the new ASUS G51VX - RX05 Gaming laptop be released in Australia?

K A

And does anybody know how much it will cost in $AU???

Answer
I would also like to know...

But what I do know is that they have the higher-end G51VX here in Australia, although it has a few differences. It has a lower resolution screen like the RX05 and it has a 16" screen (the dimensions of the chassis is still the same, just a thinner bezel), its model number is G60VX. And it sells for a ridiculous price of around $2600 - $2700. That is the only model in this series which is sold by Australian retailers.

What is the best mmo gaming laptop?

jeremy

How much does it cost, and where can i find it?
also best graphix card.

Answer
You honestly don't need a super high end gaming laptop for any MMO game, just an abled computer (maybe 4GB or ram, 512MB graphics card, DUO processor 2.2G+) and a good internet connection (If you are in Australia, thats where the price hits).

If you want an all round fucking awesome gaming laptop, which looks overdone, but cool, look at some Alienware laptops, but they are not cheap.

Lucky for you, with the US in shit right now, laptops and such are usually quite cheap, and i think you could get a great system for under $2,000, and more than what you might need.

Alienware cost more Btw.
Mentioned below is that alienware cost more than it should because people know they are power. He is totally correct, and i say use the stats of such laptops but other brands.

Dell are only up there because people buy cheap advertised shit. Avoid dell, you will regret it.

And for clarification, my recommended stats are for ideal play, should handle all MMO games 100% at full everything.

Also, buying a vista laptop now entitles you to a free upgrade to windows 7, so you dont need to wait (make sure the store supports this deal from microsoft)

Answer
That should play most of what you're looking to play. The processor is modern, the Nvidia chip is great, the 1GB dedicated to it seals the deal, the 4GB of RAM is pure awesome for gaming. The CPU actually doesn't have to be all that powerful, but is.

Game on!
