What websites do you recommend to buy laptops?

Encycloped

I am looking for an affordable, quality laptop that will last me 4 years. Please specify the laptop you would recommend and why. Also, I'm on a budget so a laptop under $1000 would be nice. Remember, I'm also asking what websites you would recommend to buy quality laptops at a cheaper price. (Much like when you buy furniture from a warehouse) Thank you for your help!

Answer
For sites, I would suggest:
www.newegg.com
www.mwave.com

For laptops that is affordable and that will get you through a few years, I would suggest a lower name brand like fujitsu or acer. My sister bought a HP a few weeks ago and she loves it. She paid around $650 for it at Best Buy. It only has a Celeron Processor, but all she does is do Word Documents, surf the net, and watch movies. Those laptops are good for that purpose and they will last a long time as long as you take care of them. If you want performance with a budget, get a low brand. If you just want one to surf and watch movies, get an HP or Toshiba with a Celeron. On those, just make sure you have at least 512MB of memory and probably around 60 - 80 gigs of HDD space (depending on what you plan on using it for). But if you want a laptop that will not be outdated for 4 years, your looking at twice your budget. Unless you get lucky at auctions. The one thing I suggest, whatever you decide, take the preinstalled trial software and non microsoft games that come with a new laptop, out. They usually tend to use up alot of HDD space and memory, and it usually slows down your laptop. Hopefully this can help you decide.

I need a decent gaming laptop ( something that could handle WoW without too much lag) that would suffice for high school projects. Any suggestions? Alienware comes to mind but they don't come equipped without microsoft word or anything else really.

Answer
The Dell XPS series is a good model. You can get a 13, 15, or 17" screen with many customizable options. A solid state drive isn't necessary, but a good graphics card is if you want to play some games. Dell uses nVidia in their laptops, anywhere from 128MB to 1GB I believe. 4GB of ram should suffice for anything you're trying to do, and a high resolution screen would be nice for games. A Dell rep could help you pick what you want on the website.

I've been searching for a while now for a gaming laptop in the price range of 2000-3000 US dollars with at least the option to have a 4 year parts/labor warranty on it. I have looked at Ibuypower and Alienware but both look a little less than optimal on repairs and warranties. Any suggestions?

Answer
Try dell xps laptops. They are much cheaper than2000-3000 dollars but have the option for a great 4 year warranty.

Answer
I want to infrom you that "gaming laptops" are really un realistic for extended use as most will last 2-3 years if that. I would how ever recommend getting a nice gaming desktop for that budget.

although if you are dead set on a nice gaming laptop I would recommend:

www.alienware.com

if you decide to go with a desktop instead you can look at these:

What is a reasonably priced gaming laptop?

Joshua of

My old laptop reaching the end of its life and I am due for a new laptop, and I'd like a gaming laptop (as that is what I do mostly on my laptop now).
I am looking for a reasonably priced one it possible; I do know gaming laptops are more pricy that most. I'd prefer to not spend more than $1500 on one, but if need be I am willing. If you know f a good one cheaper than that that's better!
Thanks in advanced!

Answer
These are all good options:

**Lenovo IdeaPad Y580** (i7-3610QM, NVIDIA GTX 660M, 15.6" 1920x1080 glossy display) - **$949 + tax**
- Sign up and sign in here: http://shoplenovo.i2.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/na/StdAffinityPortal/en_US/Lenovo:EnterStdAffinity?affinity=barnesnoblegold (Barnes and Noble Gold discount page)

- These models come with the 1920x1080 display. There are other models that come instead with a 1366x768 display, but those models are not recommended unless you need the larger text. 1366x768 resolution in a 15.6" display makes things onscreen large, and 15.6" displays that have 1366x768 resolution tend to have very poor image quality due to low contrast.
- Click the green "Activate eCoupon" button in the cart.
- Note: the GTX 660M is not significantly faster than the GT 650M.

**MSI GE60** (i7-3610QM, NVIDIA GT 650M, 15.6" 1920x1080 matte display) - **$1099 no tax**

- Select Windows 7 under Operating System if you cannot acquire your own copy for cheaper.
- Recommended: Matte display option.
- Note: the GTX 660M is not significantly faster than the GT 650M.

**Sager NP9130** (i5-3210M, NVIDIA GTX 670M, 15.6" 1920x1080 matte display) - **$1095 no tax**
- http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np9130-clevo-p151em1-p-4340.html?wconfigure=yes
- Select Windows 7 under Operating System if you cannot acquire your own copy for cheaper.
- Downgrade the memory to 8GB 1333MHz, unless you have a particular need for 8GB 1600MHz memory. (Only available on XoticPC configuration page).

**Sager NP9150** (i7-3610QM, NVIDIA GTX 675M, 15.6" 1920x1080 glossy display) - **$1405 no tax** (w/ GTX 670M: $1308)

- Take note of the GPU options, and note that the stock GTX 670M is available in the cheaper NP9130.
- Recommended: Matte display option.
- Downgrade the memory to 8GB 1333MHz, unless you have a particular need for 8GB 1600MHz memory.
- Note: comes with a colored backlit keyboard unlike the NP9130.
- 17.3" version: http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np9170-gaming-laptop-clevo-p170em-p-4342.html?wconfigure=yes

------------------------------

Note: Another answer here recommended the "ASUS N56VZ-ES71". This model is not a good option, because it comes with a 15.6" 1366x768 display. 1366x768 resolution in a 15.6" display makes things onscreen large, and 15.6" displays that have 1366x768 resolution tend to have very poor image quality due to low contrast. It also has the slower GDDR3 version of the GT 650M instead of the GDDR5 version, but it's still a decent GPU.

The N56VZ is a good option if you buy the N56VZ-RB71 which comes with a 15.6" 1920x1080 matte display, but the N56VZ-ES71 is a bad option.

What is the best budget gaming laptop for my uses?

Dadad

I've been wanting a reasonable laptop for studies and also a lot of gaming. I have around 500-800 dollars to spend on this laptop. I would like to play games such as Minecraft, League of Legends, BF3, at at least a consistent 60 fps, with an exception to BF3, and I don't mind playing on the lowest settings. Any good budget gaming laptops out there?

Answer
I am not sure how well these will play BF3 but they come close to your price range.

Brand buying advice

You get what you pay for. Systems with high end parts with low prices are to be viewed with suspicion. They have to cut corners somewhere to get the price down. What cost you less today is going to cost you more tomorrow.

Apple makes a good quality laptop. The problem comes when it requires service or minor upgrades. It is near impossible to do anything with them. They even glue the battery and hard drive down so you can not change it. They solder the ram to the logic board so you can not increase it. They lock up most of the software so your stuck with what they approve.

Lenovo has serious stand behind their product problems. They bought IBM PC division and proceeded to drive the quality of the system into the ground. Their customer service is well below par. They even makes Dell customer service look good. Lenovo will not allow people to read instruction on how to access the BIOS menu or to get info on their puters on their web site unless you connect to them thru Facebook. They do this so they can spy on their users. The last and final thing to remember about them is they are a Chinese Government own company. It is up to you if you want to trust them.

Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony should be avoided because of their heavy modification of Windows and the drivers. If you remove some of the bloat they install, you can cripple the system.

Acer, Gateway, and eMachines should be avoided period. Low end system that are driving the race to the bottom.

Dell once made a good system and fell from grace. They are now struggling to regain their place in the market. Customer service is one of many problems with this company.

Alienware are glorified Dells and are more name then product. Priced extremely high for what you get. They do perform but you can get the same for less by looking around, just not packaged to be eye candy to the gamers.

Samsung has a history of using cheap parts in critical areas. Capacitors has been one area Samsung has a known history of going cheap, causing units to fail early. For that reason I would avoid them.

ASUS and HP do not modify Windows as bad as the other manufacturers. They have excellent build quality. They might add a lot of bloat but they also makes it easy to get rid of it.

Ultrabooks are the higher end of Wintel laptops but they have some of the same concerns as Apple. They make it next to impossible to change any hardware in them. Service of them will have to be done by the manufacturers. With most of them, you can not change your own battery or hard drive. They are designed to catch your eye but they are not any more special then other laptops except for the fact that they are slim or thin. Your paying for it being thin and slim. For the money your going to spend on it you can buy a much better laptop with more power.

Hybrids are the worse of the worse. The flip or detachable touch screens are just a disaster waiting to happen.

Never buy an All In One. They are far worst then laptops of any kind to service and they have a higher failure rate.

Choose wisely.

I bought this laptop (Samsung RV511) in october 2012. It's ran pretty well since then, but recently (in the last month or so), it's been running hot, especially when playing games; the CPU was reaching 95°C, and the game would freeze up for a few seconds. I think the problem is the fan since I can't feel much air coming out of the vent.

Any way to solve this? I want to try cleaning the fan, but It's buried pretty deep and I'm afraid I'll mess something up if I open it. Will just blowing compressed air into the vents do anything or is that bad for the laptop?

Answer
95°C is really bad for your CPU and computer in general. I guess you use the computer for a fairly long period of time per use so that is probably why it is firing up so high.

It is a good idea to invest in a cooling pad, these things raise your computer, allowing more heat to escape and to cool it down at the same time with a fan blowing underneath. I suggest getting one from coolermaster, since my friend has one and it works well

I have got a laptop in gift but with no windows. So what to do and is this a good gaming laptop?

What is a better gaming laptop, toshiba, alienware or asus?

Epic

More specific, I have been searching for the best laptops. I have stumbled across a website http://computers.toptenreviews.com/gaming-laptops/ and I had an eye on toshiba, since I have great trust in it not crashing down (unlike dells or hp's)But the review on the toshiba is not nearly as great compared to alienware, although it seems to be double as good! so what is better,
http://computers.toptenreviews.com/gaming-laptops/toshiba/toshiba-qosmio-x-series-review.html
or
http://computers.toptenreviews.com/gaming-laptops/alienware-corporation/alienware-m17x-review.html
And why do they wright such a bad review for the toshiba?
Ps: I want a computer for both gaming, animations and general browsing.
I don't want to build my own laptop.

Answer
When it comes to laptops I would recommend buying them not building them like desktops, and the Alienware is better, it has a better graphics card and a better processor. The only downfall is the 2GB of ram instead of 3, although you definetly do not need 3 as it is a single screen. Go with the Alienware.

Should I get a Gaming Laptop or Desktop?

Arbiter

Hi. I've had this laptop for 3 years now and I was thinking of getting a new laptop but my uncle, who works in IT, has offered to go out and build a desktop with me. I'm heading to college shortly and if need be, I can use this laptop for college but it's quiet old and slow. So, I'm wondering, should I get a custom made Desktop or a Laptop? Let me expand a bit.
I have a budget of in or around â¬1000 and I will be using the laptop/desktop for gaming as well as running and installing other minor programs for my college course. To my knowledge, a custom built desktop would be much more powerful in terms of gaming and overall performance and you can get better specs for your money. At the same time, the mobility of the laptop is something I'm not too keen on giving up. I plan to use the laptop for college but If I do get a desktop I can use this laptop instead. I will be playing games like the Total War series and Chivalry, but I don't plan on playing any games that have heavy requirements (Battlefield 3, Tomb Raider).
So, I suppose there are a two questions in this...
1) Can I get a powerful laptop for â¬1000 euro that can run games like Chivalry and the Total War series on the highest settings (Ultra)?
2) If not, should I just custom build a desktop?

Answer
Stating your country and mentioning some online shopping for computer parts would help to give a better assessment. I do believe that importing from the UK should approximately equal locally sourced.
PCPARTPICKER has expanded and is now UK, Spain, Germany, France, and Italy, but is not as effective in showing all the best prices and available stores in each country.
I will use the UK as guidance of availability as 1.18 â¬/£ and try to account for shipping. Looking at about 800£ total to work with.
The requirements of the latest Total War and Chivalry are mid-grade and a GT 650M or GT 750M and core i5 in a laptop should handle them well, also allowing the newer games at lower settings. Desktop/Tower PC performance in the price range is substantially higher. For lowest prices of computers, laptops are stronger in performance, but in best value shopping, the break even is about â¬500 where Desktops can substantially outperform, the higher in price you go. If you are going away to a university, certainly a modern laptop is useful, but can be a supplement to a better desktop/tower. The only question is dormitory room space and whether you travel by air about desktop PC shipping convenience.
Build your own:

This leaves funds for keyboard, mouse, speakers, and an HDMI cable plus differences in shipping, but does not include a monitor.
Certainly, you max out anything at your current gaming level, and all new releases from the series for years to come. It is approximately a top tier gaming PC, with slight weakness in the CPU performance, but the best AMD has to offer. Intel Core i5 builds seem to take too much away from the graphics performance of a balanced complete reliable stable build.

GTX 660 as overclocked I selected approaches GTX 660 TI, playing just about every game on ultra in 1080p, except as bottlenecked by the CPU, so Far Cry 3, Planetside 2, 64 man Battlefield-3 may be high settings instead. It is about optimizing choices. With a monitor/display added you lose some performance. A system like this can set plans on top level games.

The MSI with GTX 660M, just crosses ultra settings, so that is the level you need as GT 750M/GTX 660M in a laptop. These are below GTX 550 Ti level, and as you can see, you get substantially higher gaming in a desktop at your price point.

It can do >100FPS in Bioshock and manage to play Crysis (most graphics intensive game) at medium settings but low resolution.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/23/alienware-m11x-review/

The M11X should have an easy time with WoW. And you would enjoy a lot with many other exciting games on that laptop.

What would be the specs I would need for these things I would like to do on a laptop?

Dan

I want a laptop that will be reliable and will not slow over me running several applications. Im buying a new laptop because I want to use editing programs and watch HD videos. So I want it to run these things with ease. I don't want to play games on it because I figured that would add a whole lot more money on to the price.

Answer
"reliable and will slow over me running several applications"
so you want a reliable brand, with good RAM and a decent processor.

Toshiba, Sony, and Dell make the most reliable laptops, HP makes the most unreliable (there was a study, i'll post a link)

you will want a Core 2 Duo (specifically that type, they are built for performance) with the speed of at least 2.0GHz (2.1 or 2.2GHz are available for about 20 bucks more expensive)

you will also want 3GB of RAM at a minimum, 4GB+ is better.

here's the link to the study i was talking about:

I want to know what is the best gaming laptop for the money. I am sick of reading good and bad reviews online. Please tell me which laptop is best OVERALL! (tech support, warranty, everything and of course max settings for games!)

Answer
I would have to say go with a custom gaming notebook company. These companies are almost unheard of and not over hyped like alienware, Dell and etc. and they don't make junk. I definitely rec mend checking these brands out: Sager, Cyber Power, and especially Malibal all provide amazing laptops and at really good prices(much better computers then alienware in general). They have superb tech support, warranty, and processors and graphics card that will last at least 5 years for you. **** but like any laptops just make sure you do good maintenance on them such as clean fans, good anti virus, and de frag regularly.

What is the best gaming laptop money can buy as of today?

Alex

I'm 16 and I just got a job. I would like to save up to buy a super-powerful gaming laptop. I only care about power, not screen size or hard drive space.

Answer
Since it is going to be a while before you buy, take a look at this ASUS. It will give you an idea of what you should look for. Nividia just released their new graphics chip series 7xx. AMD is gearing up to release their 78xx series. A i7 or i5 Intel CPU should do just fine. You will want a 256 GB SSD for your C drive and a 500GB to a 1TB D drive. In the higher end system a 1080 screen is common. Your choice on it being a 15 or 17 inch.

Alienware are glorified Dells and are more name then product. Priced extremely high for what you get. They do perform but you can get the same for less by looking around, just not packaged to be eye candy to the gamers.

Ive been trying really hard to find a gaming laptop lately but I'm no computer genius haha. I would love a laptop that can run skyrim on at least medium settings and minecraft on high setting with no lag. I'm not amazing with computers so a lot of help would be incredible. Sadly though I can't go over 900 dollars. Thanks! :)

Answer
Choosing a laptop computer can depend on whether youâre looking for a cheap computer or if youâre looking for the best performance. I will focus on looking for the best computer according to its performance without taking into account its price. There are many factors that can be considered when choosing a laptop, but the most important features to pay attention to are processor speed and amount of RAM, CD-ROM, USB and floppy drives, and hard disk space.

What is good and cheap gaming laptop?

I know TES online is not out yet but could someone make a good guess of what specs i need?

Answer
Lenovo.com
IdeaPad Y500 Laptop- 59371965 - at $850 plus tax. The GT 730M seems to be a little better than the GTX 660M. The link is long but not hard to navigate Lenovo.com

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834312438
The down level Y500 with the pair of GT 650M in sli. With an i5 processor, a few games will CPU bottleneck. It is $900 and taxed in California.
Both in 1080p

Now, hunt the stores, Amazon, Newegg, Tigerdirect, Fry's, Best Buy.

Come up with a GTX 660M or better at these prices.

TES:
http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=3734&game=The%20Elder%20Scrolls%20Online
Requirements will be fairly low.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152377
AT $800 is enough.
You can go cheap, and it is probably enough to play, even with weak build quality of Acer:

The site doesn't show any price at all for Asus gaming laptops. So i did my research and i believe that the best one they have is the Asus G74SX 3D model. Is this true? If not, can anyone please tell me the best one they have. Thank you!

Answer
Asus G74SX 3D is good laptop It is worth buying

Asus G74SX 3DE laptop arrived within 48 hours.

The unit has changed from its predecessor with better venting. The 3D Blu-Ray is most excellent indeed. The hard drive array of two 750 GBs with about equal partitions among 4 partitions is intelligent and a great boon over the older laptop that this replaces. The VRAM of Nvidia 560M is fantastically powerful and actually is faster than desktop Blu-Ray units. The Nvidia 560M has 3GBs of power. The LED screen is very brilliant and crystal clear. This certainly is another cutting edge improvement over the former stealthy laptop. The former never had 3D capability. This model has twice the graphics power too.

How much money do you reckon my laptop could sell for at the most?

Sam

Just as a note, this isn't a gaming laptop. Just an ordinary office laptop. It's been used for about 1 year and a half, not very frequently though. The keyboard has been damaged once, but it was taken to the manufacturer about 2 months ago; it came back with a completely replaced keyboard as well as a BIOS upgrade.

The laptop has a 750 GB HDD, which should be enough for a huge amount of photos, videos and also able to hold a lot of programmes without lagging. To help, it's got 6 GB of RAM, which is surprisingly huge for an office laptop. The graphics are integrated but good enough to play regular games like Diner Dash (it can also play the first few expansions of World of Warcraft), not advanced ones like Battlefield or FarCry. But, do not worry about the graphics card if you're looking for a laptop to use for editing, or just daily working or socializing. The processor is the Intel Core i5-2430M running at 2.4 GHz. This is a really good processor.

The colour of the laptop is red, a bit dark but not very. It has Windows 7 on it so you won't have to worry about getting an OS disk. It comes with its charger in the box that the manufacturer provided after its repair; otherwise it comes in a plain box, but it will be protected so it isn't damaged during travel.

How much do you reckon my laptop could sell for at the most on eBay?

£'s please.

Gaming on NVIDIA Graphics Card GeForce GT 230M ?

best gaming laptops june 2011 on Best Deal On Laptops Alienware Laptops Best Deals On Alienware Laptops ...
best gaming laptops june 2011 image

I hav just got my sisters laptop which was bought 2 years back. It is HP pavilion DV7t-3000 laptop with following features:
⢠Genuine Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
⢠Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB)
⢠4GB DDR3 Samsung 1333Mhz System Memory
⢠1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M

I want to know how good this laptop is for gaming purpose? Will it support the new games like NFS Run and others. Is the graphics card good enough for gaming purposes. If not is there any way of updating/replacing it with newer ones.

Answer
The laptop was bought as an end of the model sold mostly 2008 and 2009, and the GT 230M was a lower-mid class release in June 2009. It is at 273 in this GPU to gaming web site:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html
It ranks between Intel Integrated graphics HD 3000 Mobility and HD 4000 Mobility
It cannot play the highest graphics new games and is not considered gaming level. NFS Run was released in late 2011 and it appears that GT 230M is just above the game manufacturer minimum so should play on the x768 screen at low settings.
Graphics cards of laptops cannot generally be upgraded. There are cases in newer laptops using standard laptop graphics cards and if a similar model laptop exists, you might be able to use that card.
I don't know what the configurable HP DV7t-3000 offered, but might be another in the GT 2x0M series if it can be found. It is generally not worth trying. I could not find any indication of a higher level card compatible on the internet. You could not upgrade with a newer card. If socketed, only a higher level of the same GPU family.

What can I do to upgrade my laptop? (read description)?

marosam236

My laptop is Acer. (ASPIRE 4937G) (I have it since late 2008)
Processor: Inter Core 2 Duo centrino 2 P8400, 2.26 GHz, 1066 MHZ SFB, 3MB L2 cache
Ram: 3GB DDR3
Graphics: 512MB of dedicated DDR 2 VRAM, up to 1791 MB of shared system memory, NVIDIA GeForce G105M TurboCache
Operating System: Windows Vista
Hard disc: 320 GB
DVD-Super Multi

if you want more specs go to http://www.latest-price.com/latest-laptops-notebooks/acer-aspire-4937g-laptop-price-specifications-and-reviews/

In june 2011 I will buy the Valve complete pack from Steam. My laptop can run all games in the pack up to games produced after Half life 2, i.e. Half life 2 Deathmatch "high latency", CSS "high latency", Day of Defeat: Source "high latency", Team fortress 2 "high latency and a little slow" and Left 4 dead 1 & 2 "high latency and VERY slow"

Now what I want you to tell me is if I can change the processor to i3 for example, what RAM upgarde will be suitable and if I can upgrade the graphics card. I don't care for the price (as long as its cheaper than buying a new laptop of course!), and sorry if it is a long description but I want a good answer too, focus on what I can do to make the games work by improving my laptops specs and how i can decrease my latency. Thanks for the help in advance!
@Josh Courtoreille thanks for ur answer but i don't think i will buy a new laptop before i go to university after 2 years so if u can give me a temporary solution which will be enough to run the games but not necessarily at best graphics and average online latency (less than 200 "my latency is already like 170 in most servers for most Valve games except l4d 1 & 2") will be good enough (this applies to other people that will answer too)

Answer
Sorry to say but your best bet is to purchase a new laptop altogether. A laptop designed for gaming would be much better. Not to mention you can't upgrade your laptop to a Core i3 because the socket types are different. You can't upgrade the graphics card in a laptop because it's part of the motherboard.

Laptops were designed to be a *bit* upgradeable, but only to a certain extent. Your laptop is 3 years old, and therefore it's already out of date. I'm not saying it's junk, I'm saying it's out of date.

So go out and buy a gaming laptop with an i5 Sandy Bridge processor. It will give you way more bang for your buck, even if you have to fork out a larger amount of buck, so to speak. There's not much you can do with your laptop you have now to be able to give you the performance you require to play games.

So i need help im not good at picking laptops cause the sellers in the market always try to sell ppl cappy expensive ones.
I need a laptop activate ultra in Lol and wow and bf3 too plz anything higher than alien ware i dont want it and thank you.

Answer
'd never buy Alienware unless you're looking to spend extra money on a laptop with worse specs than you could get in another. This is one of the brands you'd definitely want to look into getting a gaming laptop from: http://www.sagernotebook.com/
A specific one I'd recommend is their NP7280 here: http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?pâ¦
It's normally $1999 but it says it has $320 off instantly. It has a 580M which should easily play it on Ultra.

Edit: I actually saw now that the $300 off was for the $2499 laptop. However, the one on the right from that link for $1799 will still do BF3 great, just maybe not on Ultra, but at least High.
2nd Edit: I didn't notice, but it actually has TWO 560Ms. That will VERY easily play it on Ultra.

And I'm just gunna mention that those people with $9000 PCs were probably Alienware (or another extremely overpriced pre-built), as mine with an i5 2500K and a 6950 plays BF3 on Ultra easily, and it cost me around $1300.

What's a decent gaming laptop for the money?
