what is a good gaming laptop for a semi-cheap price?

hawk_skate

I'm looking for a gaming laptop and this will be my first time purchasing one so I'm not sure what would be the ideal type for what I want to use it for. The only disc-based game I plan on using is the Sims 2 (with every extension pack and a lot of mods) and then I'll mainly use it for online gaming
I'd like for it to be pretty cheap, maybe around $500 if possible, if not I can go over that but I'm not able to pay above $1000. So any help in what laptop I should get will be appreciated thanks in advance

Answer
What to look for:
Intel Dual Core or Core 2 duo
DEDICATED GRAPHICS CARD (not integrated, built in, shared)
at least 4 gig of ram.

Sims doesnt take alot of computer power so i wouldnt get a gaming laptop. You should be fine with any computer that fits what i listed above. Avoid Dell, Hp, Compaq, or you will be looking for a new computer within 2 years. I would suggest Toshiba, Sony, or Gateway.

Question about GTA 5 and pc laptops.?

Lsa

I just have few questions to ask i hope you don't mind :)

Now i have heard rumors that GTA 5 will come out to pc gamers is that true? And if that is true can my new laptop handle it? And if not can i buy something or download something to make the game work?

I don't have much technical detail on my laptop, it's new and it's an Asus design.
(I know nothing about computer technology ha ha)
Like i said i am not a computer geek, if you want me to remove a bullet from someones body or stop a bleeding or what not i can do that but me and computers don't see eye to eye.

I bought a laptop that for the purpose of studying, not gaming but i am wondering if there is some memory chip i can attach to it or something like that.

Answer
You don't have any technical detail at all. All you show is a brand name.
To make a guess as to whether it is expected to be playable on your laptop, you will need to list the CPU as Intel or AMD something, and if it uses the CPU graphics or has a separate graphics card, and what the card is, if it has one, and how much DRAM memory sticks from 2 to 8 gigabytes.

You can download Belarc Adviser that provides a system inventory.

They think you would need a graphics card or maybe AMD A10 cpu and its graphics.
They think inexpensive laptops woul dnot play minimum.

Best laptop on the maket right now '13?

michael

Its March 2013. If i were to go buy a new laptop tomorrow, i want to buy the best available one for under $1500. I want to know why it is the best for that price.
Here is what im into:
- college student (Many Papers and researching)
- video making
- Adobe products (Photoshop/Dreamweaver)
- Minor programming (programs/web development)

I am not that big into gaming. So with all this what should I buy? Can be a mac or pc. Whatever will do what i want fast, and last long.

Answer
W.. T.. F.. is that one guy talking about??? haha!!!

For $1500, I'd say get a macbook pro 13 Retina. It's light, portable, stylish, and the Core i5 dual core proc in it should be able to handle everything you plan to do with it. Plus that screen is ridiculously clear and beautiful. There's nothing in the Windows world like it.

Obviously it's not a value machine though. You are paying through the nose because of what it is. For me, it's worth it because it does what I need it to do perfectly (I actually use a Retina 15). That's a value decision you need to make for yourself.

Another plus is an OS that is designed to work with just a few hardware configurations so you are much less likely to have crashes due to driver issues for example.

If you're looking more for value, there are suitable $600 windows machines that would work too- lots of options. I personally like Dells, HP's, and Lenovo's but there are literally hundreds of options.

Simple laptop video card question.?

Saveth

So i got a new laptop its a sony viao f series custom and i was wondering if i could get a new video card on a laptop and if i could get one what would anyone recommend? I'm using a NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M (1GB) dedicated graphics right now and the rest of the computer specs are down below.

Computer Specs:

Sony Viao F Series Customized
8GB (4GBx2) DDR3-SDRAM-1333
750GB (7200rpm) hard drive
Intel® Core⢠i7-2760QM quad-core processor (2.40GHz / 3.50GHz with Turbo Boost)
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit
16.4" 2D Full HD LCD display (1920x1080) with LED backlight
NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M (1GB) dedicated graphics
how do i check if its a dedicated video card?

Answer
Congrats on the new laptop, nicely done with the configuration.

The bad news is that you cannot upgrade the video card in a laptop. You can replace it (with one just like it) if it fails, but you cannot upgrade.

The good news is that your video card is, "...a fast middle class graphics card for laptops." "Paired with a fast CPU, demanding games of 2010 should run fluently in medium to high details and SXGA resolution. In our tests for example Call of Duty: Black Ops and StarCraft 2 ran fluently in high details and 1360x768. More gaming benchmarks can be found in the lower section of this page. Demanding games released in 2011 like Anno 2070 or Skyrim will only run fluent in low to medium detail settings."

Link to source article below.

You have a very good CPU and laptop, so you won't be hating your graphics card for a good while yet. (That is unless all you play are brand new games like BF3 or CALL OF DUTY MODERN WARFARE 3.)

My gaming laptop is running games at a low frame rate, help?

Shelton

My laptop is a 2011 Dell Inspiron 17r (N7110) 64 bit operating system, with an upgraded 8 RAM, Intel Core i5 Processor, Windows 7 Ultimate, with 2.3GHz.

My laptop was used and its somewhat old, but it gets the job done... earlier i had to get it repaired and the repair guys replaced my hard drive with a small 250 gig hard drive and i am nearly out of space due to installed games and other large files. and lately my laptop has been running slow, my games run at a low frame rate and sometimes freeze at random times... I try to clear up as much space as possible but that doesn't work. I DO have an anti-virus program and I even use a program called ccleaner to clean up my whole laptop from files i don't need... but my laptop STILL runs slowly and games run slowly... even though my laptop fits the requirements of most games, the games run at about 20 frames per second... which is WAY too low for my level of a laptop... i think i need to update my drivers or bios or whatever but i'm not sure exactly what i need, do i need a bigger hard drive? and if so, how do I transfer all my data over to a new hard drive?

Answer
you are getting low frame rates because your laptop does not have a dedicated video card. you are using intel hd 2000, which is very bad for gaming.... the only way to increase gaming performance is to buy a new laptop, since you can not add or change a gpu in a laptop

Laptop upgrade for gaming?

Ali

I have a apire 5742z-4097 ( pentium P6100). i want to upgrade for gaming ( MW3, tomb raider) in no less than Rs50,000 ($500). I live in pakistan.

Answer
Hi bro, to this moment i have not opened my laptop to make upgrages [my laptop model is acer aspire 5742G].Well, for 500$ you can make it very good.First search about buying some more RAM.
For example, if i am not in mistake, you need DDR3-SDRAM [ 2 x 4 GB ].For the processor, you do not need lot of cpu power. For games you need good graphics, so look for updates, i couldn't see anything for some new GPU for you.Clean up your hardware [ EVERYTHING ], then delete everything that you do not need. This i can tell to you. ;)

What is a decent Mid-range gaming laptop under 750$?

Brandon

I need a new laptop, and I'm a avid gamer. I have some laptops in mind, but theres just something about each of them that just dont "click" with me. I will be using the laptop pretty much all the time and it will go where I go so I need a laptop that fits me perfectly. I need a laptop because I travel a lot and I like to have something to use when I'm away from home. Im on a real tight budget so I cant go over 750$. I wont be gaming on it all the time, I will also use it for LIGHT video editing. I want to be able to play games like black ops, BF3, Far Cry 3 and GTA4 on medium-high settings. I've been looking at the acer aspire v3 571g 6622 and the acer aspire v3 771g 6622. I like them both, but theres something about them that just dont seem right to me. To me the graphics card and processor matter the most to me I can live with a 15.6 lower resolution screen and lower RAM because it is usually upgradable. So what is your recomendation to me? Please dont say "put in another 100$ to get..... "or "oh there are no gaming laptops for 750$" etc. I cant put in more money and I know there are laptops that can gae for 750$.
Ok thanks!
Remember, good graphics card and processor, I don't care about the RAM or screen res. And I want to play black ops, BF3, Far cry 3, and GTA4 on medium-high settings.
Suggestions?
BYE!

Answer
Neither of the two laptops you are looking at, the Acer Aspire V3-571G-6622 or the Acer Aspire V3-771G-6622 are particularly good choices, because they come with 15.6" 1366x768 and 17.3" 1600x900 displays (respectively). 15.6" 1366x768 and 17.3" 1600x900 displays make things onscreen large, and tend to be low-grade LCD panels with very poor image quality due to low contrast. Displays like these are displays that you should make a point to avoid when it is reasonable to do so.

---------------

Where you've got your priorities set right is the GPU, and where you don't is the processor or display.

Your priorities need to be are in two areas: The GPU, and the display. It's not processor, it's not RAM, it's the GPU and the display that you need to be concerned with first. The differences in these areas are some of the most substantial differences, and are what will affect you most. You want to focus on getting a decent GPU and a decent display at the same time, before you start worrying about other things that make less of a difference.

The display is key, in that once you start getting into price ranges where it's reasonable to get a decent display, you want to try to get a decent display. Displays such as 15.6" 1366x768 and 17.3" 1600x900, as covered above, are not "decent" displays. Displays such as 15.6" 1920x1080 and 17.3" 1920x1080 are great, in that they let you fit a lot onscreen, and in that they tend to be good quality LCD panels with high contrast and solid color reproduction. But the reason you want to try to get a good display isn't just about how good the good displays are, it's also about avoiding something that's pretty bad. And it's also about more than just resolution itself.

The GPU is the primary determining factor for game performance. Usually, gaming is bottlenecked by the GPU before it really even starts to matter what type of CPU or how much memory you have. Things like CPU and RAM are more of "buff" specs than anything else, abused by manufacturers, resellers, and retailers for marketing in order to create a false impression of power and performance on the uneducated customer looking at the wrong things. Really, most CPUs and most amounts of memory that come with most non-completely-entry-level laptops are more than enough for most users. You need to put your focus on what actually matters first, not on what marketing tries to tell you matters.

A GT 645M (for example), is not a terrible GPU, and i3-3210M is not a terrible processor (it's more than enough for much of gaming, despite the marketing aura surrounding it), but a 15.6" 1366x768 display is a "terrible" display. You should be looking to improve upon a display that's pretty bad, before you start trying to improve upon something else that's already pretty good.

---------------

That said, you've got your three best choices for sub-$750 laptops, that come with decent GPUs and decent displays at the same time, right here. All come with faster GPUs and better displays than the Acer V3 models you're looking at.

**HP DV6t** (NVIDIA GT 650M, 15.6" 1920x1080 matte display) - **$687**
- Saved Configuration: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/load_configuration.do?destination=review&config_id=7974296
- Apply the coupon code: NB6382
- This configuration includes four things from the base: The 1920x1080 display, the NVIDIA GT 650M GPU, the 7200RPM HDD, and the CPU bump to the i3-3210M (one of the options that enables the NVIDIA GT 650M configuration option). You can upgrade to the i5-3210M if you feel a need, but don't do so at cost of something more important. The GPU and display are the upgrades that you need to have squared away in your configuration before you start trying to fit any of the other upgrades.
- Windows 7

**Sony Vaio Fit 15** (NVIDIA GT 740M, 15.6" 1920x1080 glossy display) - **$729**
- Configuration page: http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SYCTOProcess?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&LBomId=8198552921666564153&categoryId=8198552921644926998
- Select either the i3-3227U or i5-3337U CPU option, in order to enable the NVIDIA GT 740M GPU upgrade.
- Then, scroll down and select the NVIDIA GT 740M GPU upgrade. Take the cheaper option with 1GB of memory, because you aren't really going to see much gain from just another GB of memory on the same GPU, past an amount that's already decent.

**HP Envy 15t** (NVIDIA GT 740M, 15.6" 1920x1080 glossy display) - **$722**
- Saved Configuration: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/load_configuration.do?destination=review&config_id=7972968
- This configuration includes two upgrades from the base: The 1920x1080 display, and the NVIDIA GT 740M. Whatever you change, keep these two things in your configuration.
- Apply the coupon code: SVD8492

What laptop can I buy locally at Best Buy best for gaming and under $750?

Jordan Wat

Thanks for the help!

Answer
Nothing at Best Buy looks worthwhile. I even opened 50 items hoping to see a dedicated graphics card laptop at under $750. Nothing.
There is the Y series at Lenovo.com that is generally above $750
This MSI laptop at Newegg is pretty good at $700
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152378
MSI CX61 0NF-257US Notebook Intel Core i5 3210M(2.50GHz) 15.6" 6GB Memory 750GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GT 645M
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html
That's an enhanced GT 640
This Acer at Tigerdirect looks OK at $700 after rebate and $730 at Newegg without rebate

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4978876&CatId=4935
Acer Aspire V3-571G-9686 NX.RZNAA.003 Notebook PC - 3rd Gen Intel Core i7-3632QM 2.2GHz, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD, DVDRW, 15.6" Display, 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M, Windows 8 64-bit
And, this 17.3" at BHPhoto out of NYC at $683.58 and $700 at Amazon:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/891057-REG/Acer_nx_ryqaa_005_I5_3210M_6GB_DDR3_750GB_HD_Windows_8.html
http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-V3-771G-6851-17-3-Inch-Laptop/dp/B009JXK17G
V3-771G-6851 Intel Core i5 3210M Dual-Core 2.5GHz Processor
Internal 6GB of DDR3 RAM Memory
Serial ATA 750GB 5400rpm Hard Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GT640M with 2GB DDR3 VRAM
CineCrystal 17.3" LED-Backlit Display
Widescreen HD+ 1600 x 900 Resolution
Gigabit Ethernet & 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi
Optical Drive, Bluetooth 4.0 & USB 3.0
Multi-in-1 Memory Card Reader
Windows 8 (64-bit) Operating System
They are three nice laptops for the price. Sorry that BestBuy offers almost all Intel Graphics or gets an AMD Hybrid situation going, but the GT 630M laptop I answered about out of Newegg and Amazon seems to be better than anything at Bestbuy for up to $750 that I could find.

Relatively inexpensive gaming laptop?

Xquardoff

I'm going to college in the fall, but I'll need a computer. I want to be able to game really well, but won't be able to lug a desktop all over the place. I'm looking for something decently priced, but I don't care about size or weight, so long as it is smaller than a desktop tower. What amazing gaming laptops would you recommend?

Answer
innexpensive/amazing gaming laptop + 2012 USA economy = nearly impossible

innexpensive/decent gaming laptop = 2012 USA economy = doable

Try looking at your local stores, best buy has some really great deals sometimes, if you catch it at the right time, it might even be under 500-600 bucks.

Dell/Toshiba (if you have the money, alienware) but one of the main things with gaming computers are RAM and Graghics card. If you want a good laptop look for one with atleast 2-4 GB of RAM and a RADEON 6000 series or up or a GFORCE 400 series and up. Find a computer with those specs for the right price and youll be set for college, beer, books, and call of duty is the life if you think about it. (dont forget the hot chicks)

Lookin for a gaming laptop for around 1000 bucks.?

Q. I see ones for more than 2 processers but not so great video cards. Should i go with the duo or should i go for a good video card

Answer
For games, the video card is much more important. Any laptop without at least a Radeon 4650/5650 or a Nvidia 250M/350M will be pretty much useless for games.

I'd suggest either the ASUS G51Jx ($1100 to 1400) or N61Jq ($1000 to 1200). They are both great gaming laptops for the price. Other options are the Acer 5470G ($800) or a properly configured HP DV6T ($950 for the one with a Radeon 5650).

I want a laptop that has what is listed below, or similar

3rd generation intel i7 processor w/ 3ghz or more
3gb NVidia geforce GTX 670m graphics card
12gb or RAM
1080p HD
17.3" screen
750 gb hard drive (or more), 7200 rpm
windows 7 x64

the price doesn't matter to much but if possible i want it to be $2000 (maybe a bit low). the same computer from alienware is like $3000.

i was looking at a computer called a ASUS G75VW-TS72. but 2.3 ghz is a bit low to me.
Basically i want this computer to be able to run crysis 2, battlefield 3, or assassins creed revelations.

thank you!

Answer
Yes, it is a good gaming laptop for sure. Current games as of 2011 should therefore run fluently in Full HD resolution and high details. Only a few very demanding games, such as Metro 2033 or Crysis 2, may need reduced graphical settings for smoother gameplay.

Help finding a gaming laptop.?

Tyler

Ok, i posted a question a few days ago about this, but i haven't found a single laptop that i liked. What i would like to know is if anyone had any suggestions of any specific laptop for me. I have a budget of $1100 so it HAS to be under that. I want a laptop better then the one i have now, which is an HP Pavilion dm4-1265dx i bought it for $650, it has a windows experience index as follows-
Core I5 M 460 (2.53GHz)- 6.8 subscore
4 Gigs of ram- 5.9 subscore
Intel HD Graphics- 4.3 windows aero subscore
Intel HD Graphics- 5.3 gaming subscore
Harddisk (640GB)- 5.9 subscore
4.3 is the lowest so that is my overall subscore. I want something better then this, i bought this in May 2011 and i want something better for gaming. So please help. Specific models would help btw because i have been searching for weeks.

I need a Gaming laptop 2012?

Mike Raws

Hello! I'm going back to the US and I've saved money for a gaming laptop!
I'm going to be buying it June-July, so I have time to think about it.
Any suggestions? NO ALIENWARE!
Anything under 2.1 grand (USD)

Answer
The next thing that is close to gaming alienware is the Dell XPS 15 X15L-1024ELS gaming laptop. This is a truly awesome computer. For starters, it's without a doubt the fastest laptop I have ever used. I can literally hit the button to turn it on and be online within 1 minute. It never lags or slows in performance, even when handling 5 or 6 tasks at a time. All of the features on this laptop are state-of-the-art. The speakers truly stand out, they are the best sounding laptop speakers I've ever heard, bar none. Also, the camera on it records in 1080p so you can get some really good quality video just using what comes stock. This is a solid machine that is well worth the price. I strongly suggest it to anyone looking for a state-of-the-art laptop.

If you don't like it, just use the specs from the page as your foundation and go from there.

Good luck on finding your gaming laptop.

- 17.3": http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np8270-clevo-p170sm-p-5913.html
- Select the AMD Radeon 8970M GPU. Avoid the Quadro K1000M as it's not a gaming-oriented GPU.
- Select Windows under Operating System, unless you can get your own copy for cheaper than their offer. Comes by-default without an OS.

---------

And a Lenovo option -- Not quite up to the level of even the GTX 765M, but still a good option to throw in the mix.

**Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p** - **$949**
- http://lenovo.com/barnesnoblegold/ (B&N Gold Discount: Sign up and sign in)
- Take this model: http://shop.lenovo.com/barnesnoblegold/uâ¦
- Avoid any models that come with the 1366x768 display.
- Use the graphics switching feature in the NVIDIA Control Panel to switch off the GT 750M when not gaming. You'll get rather good battery life that way. There may or may not also be an automatic feature.

---------

Want cheaper but still capable?

**Toshba Satellite P50** - **$899**
- http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/cdetland.to?poid=2000098991

**Toshiba Satellite S70** - **$775**
- Start Here: http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/cdetland.to?poid=2000101467
- Scroll down to "Select Graphics Controller" and select the NVIDIA GT 740M (up from Intel HD)
- Scroll down to "Select Display" and select the 17.3" FHD 1920x1080 (up from 17.3" 1600x900)
- The laptop is only rendered a good choice if you buy a configuration that includes these two changes from the base configuration. You don't want Intel HD graphics if gaming is a primary interest of yours, and a 17.3" 1600x900 display is undesirable in general (see this answer's footnote). Don't downgrade either of these for things like trading out for other upgrades. For example, while the stock i3-3120M is fine for much of gaming, if it's something you're intent on upgrading, you'll want to do it in addition to, not instead of, the GT 740M GPU and 1920x1080 display. But by that point, you're probably better off just getting the Satellite P50. The purpose for recommending this model is to provide a cheaper option that comparatively sacrifices in something that isn't all that critical of a concern for much of gaming or for general use -- the CPU.

---------

Notes:
- All of these laptops come with "decent" displays. You want to make a point to avoid displays such as 15.6" 1366x768 and 17.3" 1600x900, which make things onscreen large and are almost always low-grade LCD panels with very poor image quality due to low contrast.
- It is generally recommended to buy Sager/Clevo models through a reputable reseller such as XoticPC. Buying through sagernotebooks.com leaves you without the decent customer service provided by one of the reputable resellers.

A gaming laptop for 800$ or more that can play games on ultra settings? if its less money better?

A good reliable laptop with nice reviews

Answer
Focus on two things: GPU, and display.

The GPU is the primary determining factor for game performance. Game performance depends considerably more on the GPU than on any other performance-related spec.

The display is key in that once you start getting into price ranges where it is reasonable to get a decent display, you want to try to get a decent display. The difference between displays is one of the things that makes the most difference, because it literally affects everything you do. For example, 15.6" 1920x1080 displays, you'll find, are great in that the resolution lets you fit a lot onscreen, and in that they tend to be decent quality LCD panels with good colors/contrast. This is whereas 1366x768 resolution in a 15.6" display makes things onscreen large, and 15.6" displays that have 1366x768 resolution tend to be low-grade LCD panels with very poor image quality due to low contrast.

Finally, something you need to keep in mind is that it shouldn't be a priority for you to focus on CPU and RAM. This is a common thing I see, but it's a rather moot requirement, and generally leads you down the wrong path. CPU and RAM are not the "keystone" specs of a computer, and are generally among the least important things to be concerned with. Really, don't worry about them. Most computers you'll find that do well in important areas (e.g. GPU and display) will already have CPUs more than powerful enough for most users, and amounts of RAM more than large enough for most users. An i5-3210M is more than you need, and 6GB of RAM is still plenty. Gaming is generally bottlenecked by the GPU before it matters whether you have an i3 or an i7, or 6GB or 8GB of RAM. Most concern for these specs stems from dishonest marketing courtesy of manufacturers, resellers, and retailers.

------

That said, for $700:

**ASUS N56DP-DH11** (**AMD Radeon 7730M**, **15.6" 1920x1080 matte display**, AMD A10-4600M) - **$699**
- http://microcenter.com/product/401594/N56DP-DH11_156_Laptop_Computer_-_Black

Or, for $800 you can make a considerable leap in game performance with:

**Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 750M** (**NVIDIA GT 750M**, **15.6" 1920x1080 matte display**, i7-3630QM) - **$809**

- Click the activate coupon button in the cart.
- Note that the GT 650M included in certain other variants (except for the models that come with 2x/SLI GT 650Ms) is a bit behind the GT 750M.
- Avoid any variants/models that come with the 1366x768 display instead of the 1920x1080 display.

The Acer Aspire V3 model mentioned in another post is not something I can recommend. The problem with the Aspire V3 is that it comes with a 15.6" 1366x768 display.

MacBook Pro yes or no?

laurenmf12

I am considering getting a MacBook Pro. I'm not an avid gamer, but would like to enjoy playing slender, scp and other games like that. I know it's hard to get a virus on (which i've gotten plenty and to tell you the truth, done with the customer service from dell/ samsung etc based in India) and well, they're sleek and attractive. I'm okay with installing microsoft for mac student/home.

I would be getting the newest MacBook Pro 2013. What I want to know, is there anything that can compare to that, or that you might think is better that I should check out? Thanks.

Answer
I would do a full complete hardware comparison between the Mac and any Other Intel i5, i7 manufactured laptops. You will find that they all use the same Intel Processors and Graphics so there is no difference in the processors,

Next do a complete hard drive comparison between the PC Laptops and the Mac, You will find that the PC Laptops use the 72,000 rpm Hard drives against the 54,000 rpm hard drive that mac use Next the Memory that Mac use is slower than that of the PC laptops. The one major thing to remember is you can walk into any store and buy anything Hardware/software off the shelf and know it's going to work with a PC/Laptop You buy a mac then your forced to buy and pay over priced prices for Macs Devices and software, Ho by the way do some research you will find that the Mac do get VIRUSES, Mac keeps them quite,

Now for something you don't know. Mac and windows are not the only computer operating systems in the world. there are others that are free, faster, Superior and far more advanced. The worlds fastest up to date November 2013 computer operating system is free to download and use it has over 43.600 Free professional application software packages and over 1,800 plus free Games that will run on your Dell computer.

Can you make folders on Acer Iconia tablet?

Like how you can group games together on Ipod Touch? I want to do that on my Acer Iconia A100 Tablet. And how they have the folder for Multimedia, and such on the Acer tablet, I want more of those basically. I tried a couple apps that didnt work. Any tips?

Answer
Acer, you know them. You love them; you have trusted them for years. Acer is a Taiwanese based Hardware Company that has been pumping out amazing computers, monitors and everything in between since 1976. With the recent market push into mobile computing it may seem that Acer did not bit as hard as some of their competitors. However, with the likes of devices such as the Acer Liquid Metal, the Acer Stream and the WP7 ready Acer Allegro itâs pretty obvious the company can make some very nice handsets. But Acer has also been producing tablets under the Iconia Tab moniker and it looks as if the company may have broken the mold, and I donât mean by adding a QWERTY to a slate.

With the tablet market slowly pushing out the likes of the desktop, more and more options have been showing up. Outside of the Amazon Fire the market for the 7 inch tablet seemingly does not have a ring leader. The 10 inch space is surely dominated by the iPad and until they offer up there rumored 7 inch tab itâs an open market to do what you will with the bottom line. The Acer Iconia Tab A110 is here, to do just thatâ¦maybe. Computex 2012 has shown off some great technological goodies from laptops to desktop and of course, tablets. The Acer Iconia Tab A110 was shown off at the conference and is set to murder any slate in the under $200 price range. The A110 is a 7 inch tablet that sports a 1024Ã600 pixel resolution at 170 pixels per inch. Inside the Iconia Tab A110 starts with a class leading NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad core processor that clocks in at 1.2 GHz. Delving a bit deeper on the specs sheet, the Iconia Tab A110 will have 8 GB of internal flash memory and 1GB of DDR3 RAM. You can also expect details like a huge 3420 mAh battery, a 2 mega pixel front facing web camera only, micro USB 2.0, HDMI output, expandable micro SD memory up to 32 GB and connectivity like, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0. The Acer Iconia Tab A110 should start appearing for consumption sometime in Q3 this year and be priced at less than $200 bucks; essentially trying to tame the Fire that is Amazon.

A quad core, Android 4.0 seven inch tablet for under two hundred dollars, any takers? The Iconia Tab A110 is a bit thick at 11.4 mm and surely could be improved in a few areas, but under $200 bucks makes this a sweet deal even with all that bezel. So let us know what you think of the new Acer Iconia Tab A110 in the comments below. And remember folks, the very best in mobile accessories is right around the corner.

laptop with long battery life?

Frumpy

Hello all I'm looking for a laptop that has a very long battery life. By long I mean minimum of 5 hours. And let me reiterate a laptop not a netbook. Also thank you in advance to everyone for there input. Have a nice day.
I plan to mainly use it for college taking notes etc.....I may listen to music on it but as for games No. I just need something that can last for a while so it can outlast my day on campus until I get back home.

Answer
You didn't mention what you planned to use the laptop for. For instance, if you plan on playing games then the battery will drain much faster than if you're just using it to write documents.

Gaming Laptop Or Gaming Desktop -- Help Me Decide.?

Shahzad

I am confused whether i buy gaming laptop or build a gaming desktop pc.

In Laptop i have selected this.
http://www.ipmart.com.my/main/product/Lenovo,Y,Series,Notebook,Y580,5934,6843,Dawn,Grey,Lenovo,Warranty,,355819.php?prod=355819

Lenovo Ideapad Y580
Processor: Intel® Core⢠i7 Processor 3630QM (2.4GHz, 6MB Cache)
Graphics: Nvdia GTX660M 2G DDR5
Storage: 500 GB HDD
Memory: 4 GB DDR3

In Desktop:
Processor: INTEL CORE i5 3570K 3.40Ghz (6MB CACHE)
Board: INTEL DZ77SL-50K (LGA1155-SND+HDMI+GIGA LAN)
Graphics: Nvdia GTX660 2G DDR5
Storage: 500 GB HDD
Memory: 4 GB DDR3

Compare both which one will give better performance in gaming.

Gtx660m is good or Gtx 660?

Thanks.

Answer
The desktop 660 should still be a little faster than a notebook 680M. Obviously the price difference between an equal desktop/notebook is around double.
The notebook 660M will be around half as fast as a desktop 660.

I strongly advise sticking to desktops for gaming unless you are rich. The GPU is most important and they can't be upgraded in a notebook. Gets very expensive to keep buying a notebook, when a desktop can just have the GPU replaced and the cpu overclocked when the cpu can no longer keep up with new GPUs..

Desktop or Laptop for an IT Student?

Jr

Hi, i'm a second year IT student here in the Philippines, i'm confused if what computer should I buy that suits to my need as an IT. My budget is 50k php or 1162 usd. I will be using it for programming, graphic works (cs5) and gaming. Thanks

Answer
For gaming and graphics editing a desktop is always better.
If you need mobility (to carry it around) than a laptop is recommended.
Don't know the prices in Philippines, but for $1162 you can get a very good desktop or a fairly decent laptop in the US.

Either way, make sure it has dedicated graphics (a discrete graphics card - nVidia GeForce or AMD-ATI Radeon HD), not integrated graphics (Intel HD) and an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor with at least 4GB of RAM.

Answer
Oh yea. That laptop meets every games standard that is on the market right now. The price is way crazy though. You could get a system with much better hardware for cheaper if you built your own desktop. You can easily look up tutorials on how to build a desktop, than simply go to wholesale websites like geeks.com newegg.com frys.com or ebay for computer parts. Trust me. Laptops overheat like crazy, so no matter how nice it is. It will not last as long as the average desktop and may under-perform due to crap air flow. Other than that its actually quite nice.

Is the Dell Inspiron Laptop or the Asus Factory-Refurbished Laptop any good?

Answer
Neither of those give any info on a specific laptop. Asking if an Asus Factory-Refurbished laptop is good for gaming is like asking if a Ford is good for snow... kind of depends, a Ford Explorer would be alright but a Ford Focus not so much. Also, there are several different kinds of Inspirons (14z, 14R, 15, 15R, 17R).

Anyways, I wouldn't really recommend any laptop for gaming, especially if you're on a budget. Laptops overheat a lot easier than desktops, and games require a lot of work from the computer, which results in more heat. And I wouldn't really suggest "trying your luck" anyways... if it overheats, it'll shut down, so you can take your chances but you'll get annoyed pretty quickly when you only make it 5 or 10 mins into the game. Also, overheating is not good for computers & could kill the processor, which would probably be around $300 in parts & labor to replace.

Here's a list of the top 10 gaming laptops of 2012, the cheapest is $1100, but most are more around $1500-$2000: http://computers.toptenreviews.com/gaming-laptops/

Best gaming laptops/desktops priced around $1000?

Q. hi, i have gone trough 1 hp desktop and 3 hp laptops, the laptops were kinda crappy old work laptops but the desktop wasn't. all of these crashed and were toasted and i think it is because of games. i really like games and i am not giving that up so i really need to know what to look for in a computer that is good for gaming and if you have any suggestions on gaming computers around $1000 please post them.

Answer
Im not going to waste your time and my own by bashing hp, acer, and dell. We all know they are terrible quality, and put quantity over quality. I bought a Gateway Fx two years ago. The laptop still plays COD MW2 at max settings. The current models are around $1100. But you get what you pay for. It has an amazing video card for a laptop, fast processor, high ram, and best of all its tweaked to play games. It was not made to be a throw around college computer. It is by far my best buy. Acer bought Gateway buy thankfully they have stayed hands off. Remember with dell, hp, and acer: Cheap computers means cheap parts, Cheap parts mean crap computer with a short life. I would stick with Gateway,Asus, or Toshiba. Alienwares have become dolled up dells. You would be amazed of how many corners they cut now. A simple thing as a wire going bad will cost your 8 x its actual cost. So much for not basing other brands. Again I have had nothing but perfection from my Gateway Fx.

Btw things to look for: at least 4 gigs of ram. Preferably NVIDIA and INTEL (not amd and not Ati) Hd with speed of 7500rpm and of course a motherboard mad to handle the stress. Following these things you cant go wrong. (unless you buy a hp or dell (in which case you will find how much a manufacturer can destroy great hardware with poor design and manufacturing.)

Whats the best gaming laptop for around £900-£1000?

Q. Requirements:
-Laptop
-Good for gaming, and best for its price
-Being able to run games like: Dayz, Minecraft, Skyrim on Medium-High settings. With good FPS

Description: Now, I need a laptop. I know desktops are better most of the time for gaming but right now I can't get one. So I'm looking for a laptop with good performance for games like Dayz.
Screen size does not really matter to me, but 15inch + would be great. But I really don't mind if its lower than that but has good specs.

-Thanks to anyone who helps

Best laptop for gaming, and college?

You

My budget is $1500. The games I'd like to play on it are battlefield 3, The Sims 3, Team Fortress 2, etc. For school I would need it for video editing, graphic design, Microsoft Office, etc. I would prefer something lightweight. What would you recommend?

Answer
To be very honest gaming laptops which are dedicated for games do not have lightweight. They have usually a weight of around 10 pounds. But on the other hand they are just awesome in playing games and performing other tasks.

So as you have mentioned many of the games and also you do have a good budget so I would recommend you to go for a pure gaming laptop. Asus has one good option which you can consider. It is technically really strong. Its features include:

Intel i7 4700HQ 2.4Ghz which is really powerful and fast to perform different tasks and play games
12 GB DDR3 which is perfect for multitasking
A huge storage with 1024 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
17.3-Inch Screen with Nvidia GTX765M 2GB GDDR5
Windows 8 and 3.5-Hour Battery Life

So overall this is one good option to consider. On the other hand it performs really well. Here is one good comment from an actual user which explains this fact:

http://www.amazon.com/review/R2QW9KNJO5X7D2/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00COQIKB4&linkCode=&nodeID=&tag=hawmekm-20

I would recommend this laptop. I do agree this is heavyweight laptop. But I think it is better to see the features which are just awesome and in the end they will be reflected in the performance as well. On the hand there are other options as well in the market. For your ease here is a list of laptops which are under $1500:

Laptop for gaming and college?

Sunny

My budget is around 1000, i could pay more but id like to keep it there if possible. I would like a laptop I can do college work on and play games like eso and maybe bf4. I would like to be able to play on high quality and resolution settings and still run smooth. I'm planing on going into mechanical engineering so I might need to be able to handle software for that too.

Answer
@spongebobLULZ: The viability of two laptops is heavily dependent on configuration. With the T530 you'd want at least the upgraded 1600x900 display (not the stock 1366x768) in general, as well as the NVIDIA NVS 5400M for GPU-intensive things such as gaming and probably mechanical engineering software. For the DV6, you'd want the upgraded 1920x1080 display (not the stock 1366x768) in general, and the upgraded GT 650M GPU in this case.... But there are other options I think are a better choice here.

------------

Take a look at these. Both come with pretty good GPUs (for gaming and probably Mechanical Engineering software) as well as decent displays.

**Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p** (4700MQ CPU, NVIDIA GT 750M GDDR5, 15.6" 1920x1080 display w/ matte finish and good contrast) - **$889 + tax**
- Sign up and sign in for the Barnes and Noble Gold discount: http://lenovo.com/barnesnoblegold/
- Take this model: http://shop.lenovo.com/barnesnoblegold/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y510p/?sb=:000001C9:0000ECB3:
- Or this model: http://shop.lenovo.com/barnesnoblegold/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y510p/?sb=:000001C9:0000ECB0: ($929, adds 24GB mSATA SSD for hard drive acceleration cache)
- Avoid the cheapest model. The cheapest model comes with a display that's 15.6" with 1366x768 resolution. 1366x768 resolution in a 15.6" display makes things onscreen rather large, the resolution itself doesn't let you fit much onscreen, and 15.6" displays that have 1366x768 resolution are almost always low-grade LCD panels with very poor image quality due to low contrast. Getting a decent display is one of the most substantial ways to make an impact on your user experience, and a 15.6" 1366x768 display is not a decent display -- it's actually pretty bad.

**ASUS N550JV** (4700MQ CPU, NVIDIA GT 750M DDR3, 15.6" 1920x1080 display with matte finish, good contrast, and ultra-wide viewing angles, 5.9 lbs) - **$939**

Laptop Product Informaton/ Description?

Christine

I want to do school work, media, youtube, movies, webcam and maybe some kids games on the lap (kid learning game, nothing crazy) but farmville and FB (my son, lol). I want a HP laptop to accommodate all of this but I want to know what is best for all this in each category and why. Processor and why? Memory and why? Hard Drive and why? Intel or AMD and why? GB and why? Read Speed and why? Data Links and why? GHz and why? MB and why? MHz and why? Write speed and why? What is Brightview LED display? What is Window 7 Home Premium? Dual Core and why? Is a HP Pavillion dv6 or 7 good, great or no? Please help me?

Answer
OK lets begin. First off any basic laptop with a build in webcam should be fine for what you say you want to do with it. However to answer your sets of whys...

Processor - I have no preference between Intel and AMD both are good manufacturers and make
great CPU's. How ever Intel has Chips with 2 processors in them and they put 2 on a
computer giving it 4 processors (Quad Core)
Memory - this is where the computer stores everything that is being used(ie computer program
code, images, documents, etc). So the more the better I recommend at least 6GB Ram
Read and Write Speed - this refers to the CD/DVD/Blue Ray player/recorder. The faster this is the
quicker the computer can access the information on the disk and the faster it can write to
the disk. The standard included model is good enough for me. Writing a CD of music
takes my drive about 2 minutes and I donated it quicker than that.
GHz - refers to the processor speed. The higher this is the faster the computer can perform
computations. Again the faster the better.
Dual core - This means it has 2 processor chips and can do twice as many calculations at once or
what usually happens is it can do the same calculations twice as fast. Intel has Core
Duo which is 2 processors on one chip which they double up to Quad Core which is
what I recommend.
Bright view LED - is the display. This model makes the picture bright enough to see in day
light you don'thave to shade the screen. I do recommend not getting the gloss screen if
possible as it causes more glare and in day light conditions it can make it harder to read
the screen.
As far as the OS goes. Windows 7 is the latest and greatest out right now. Some people prefer linux. Also Chrome OS comes out on June 15, 2011. It is such a compact OS and everything stores online it is quicker and easier to use and no matter what computer you go on that has it your documents, games, and settings are already there.

Now HP PPavilion is a low grade computer with low grade part jammed into the smallest case it can fit in. Get a dell.

is the GeForce GTX 460 video card old for June 2012?

Pierre

If so what would you recommend upgrading to, that is quick? Im looking for a really fast video card for Diablo III and Guild Wars 2 I just want to know if mine is old and if it should be swapped since it feels like its performance has been diminishing. I got it along with my notebook/laptop in mid 2011. Thanks!
Oh and im sorry i misstyped this but its a GeForce GTX 460M.
apparantly the 485m is the fastest out right now but i cant find a seller..what else would you recommend? I wouldnt be able to install the card that you just mentioned into my laptop Harin right?

Answer
The gtx 460m is still good for gaming it's just amd took off and jump two series above nvidia and nvidia followed by coming out with the kepler series , the gtx 675m is the fastest graphic card which will be followed by the gtx 680m which will hit the market soon, the minimum nvidia graphic card is the gtx 560m , now unless your laptop is custom made the graphic card in your laptop can't be changed

:decent graphics card
a moderate gaming laptop
budget is under 1000 dollers. the cheaper the better but dont sacrafice quality and features

PS SORRY THAT I SPELLED OUT NUMBERS BUT MY KEYBOARD IS BROKEN

Answer
Usually most of the pure gaming laptops are above $1000. But your budget is under $1000 so I would a laptop from Asus which has price of $700 and it has better features which you want.

It has Intel Core i7-3610M 2.7 GHz Processor which is powerful enough for performing tasks and gaming. It has 8 GB DDR3 and 750 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive. A good balanced 15.6-Inch LED Screen with Nvidia GT 610M 2G Graphics. And it has Windows 8. Also it performs really well while playing games as one of customer describes it a heck of deal for gaming. You can see here a complete comment for your help:

So it has performance. It is affordable. And importantly it is perfect for gaming and other tasks. Also it is among the best selling laptops which shows its credibility. So for your ease in comparison and purchase here is a list of laptops which are under $1000 and are popular ones:

Also what are the likes and dislikes about the laptop. If I can get a better one for the same price or cheaper please let me know. Thank you
my desktop specs are the following and i am haveing a low frame rate while playing wow, can someone tell me what i need to up grade to fix this problem.
Specs:
Black Alienware case with 3 LED Fans
480W Power Supply with 2 fans
Pentium 4 HT 3.0GHz processor [Hyper Threading(HT) acts as two seperate CPU's]
ATI Radeon 9800 PRO 256MB Graphics Card

52X CD-RW Drive
2 Hard Drives (1 20gig and 1 80gig)

Answer
That laptop will play World of Warcraft and render it with amazing detail. You can get less expensive laptops that can play games.

Some laptops will play World of Warcraft for under $500, yet the game will look better on that Toshiba you are looking at.

Cheapest/Best laptop for world of warcraft?

Conor

Hey guys, I want a laptop and I think I'm going to get one. All I need is one that is good enough to play games like World of Warcraft and Rise of Nations. Not very demanding at all. I would like to keep it as cheap as possible as long as it meets the standards. Can anybody help me out?

Answer
If you're a little into gaming like myself, you're @ the store and looking at the display laptops, the 1st thing you should look for on computer surface itself is a logo sticker for NVidia or ATI Mobility Radeon just below the keyboard. This shows that the laptop has a DEDICATED GRAPHICS CARD. Diablo III, the game I would love most to play is said to run on 3D graphics & is rumored to need at least 1GB of graphics memory (a lower graphics memory = cheaper laptop price), so always check the system requirement specs of the game's packaging (ex. SIMS 3; see if your laptop meets all these requirements).
Next important aspect is the RAM (memory). If you're in designing & you need to ran applications like AutoCAD 2007 or softwares used for editing photos and videos, you have to make sure that the laptop has at least 2GB DDR2 memory modules in it (the more, the better; DDR3 the fastest and newest type of memory modules that came out last October).
But what makes a computer really run fast? It is it's processor! So if you really want your processor to have computing prowess & for you to be able to run different applications simultaneously, make sure it's as efficient as an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor (Centrino 2 is a Core 2 Duo that features power saving capabilities; Quad Core is for gaming fanatics). A Core 2 Duo, is like having 2 motors running your machine each independent of the other which means for a Quad Core, it's like 4 motors are running the machine (that means it will run faster & more efficient even if its frequency is lower to that of a Core 2 Duo). Intel: Core 2 Duo, Centrino 2, Quad Core & Core i-7 (Core i-5 for desktops only as of now) are all very much faster and better than an Intel: ATOM, CELERON & PENTIUM (and their more affordable AMD counterparts). Just make sure that you have at least 2GHz of speed on your processor. For my computer, I chose an Intel® Core⢠i7-720QM Processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB; newest type just came out this Nov) w/c is just the right stuff for the applications I use & games I play.
The average laptop LCD screen size is 15.4". If you want something smaller than that with these 3 features I just shed some light on, expect the price to go higher (ex. for 13.3" & 14.1" LCD screens).
The HDD (Hard Disc Drive) should have at least 320GB {Although I would have loved my computer more if it came with two HDD bays... 1st one for a 128GB SSD (Solid State Drive) and a back-up 500GB (72000rpm) 2nd HDD}.
If you've thought of a small, portable and affordable laptop, the new Sony CW13FX/B Jet Black glossy notebook went on sale @ Fry's about 3 weeks ago (for only $699.99). I checked out the price they had in other stores, and Fry's was cheaper by about $200 {go to Fry's Electronics (www.Fry's.com) then type in this # 6029078 (or 6029138 for white & 6029108 for pink) in the search box under Notebooks/Tablets before you click on GO}. Now, after the sale, the price went up by $100, so we are waiting for it to go on sale again after Thanksgiving. Let's say you are on 9th grade.. when buying a computer, you have to consider if you will still be able to use the one you bought for college? For this particular Sony model, I would assure you, you can still use it for college as long as you take good care of it & not break it (for the technology installed on this computer will not be outdated & still be good in 10 years to come, but this is just an example). There are a lot of good brand of computers out there Toshiba, Dell, HP and ACER (w/c owns Asus & Gateway; has affordable computers with the newest technology installed), you just need to look for the ones on sale (try display computers on Clearance Sale inside stores like Micro Center, Best Buy and Office Depot). Try http://www.newegg.com/ look for HP Pavilion dv6-1362nr.
Microsoft Office is an office productivity software (so you would need to buy the retail version after the 60-day Free Trial Version that comes with all brand new computers expires, to be able to use the Word, Excel and Power Point applications). Retail version is about $159, but you can get a discounted price of $99 with a configured Dell laptop (www.dell.com).
MacBooks, that is on a totally different aspect for Apple has their own OS (Operating System) unlike the common Windows OS (XP, Vista and the newest Windows 7) that most computers come with.
Some places to start looking for the best prices, my advice, go to Fry's, CostCo, MicroCenter and BestBuy's web sites for updates & comparison. There are a lot of options and different combinations you can try in customizing your own laptop, just stick to the bare essentials first (www.HP.com). The 15.6" HP laptop I customized and had configured with the Intel® Core⢠i-7 came to a total amount of $1,455.80 ($136 tax + other sur-charges already included). I chose to pay more to have the newest technology installed, so that I don't have to worry about it getting outdated within the next 15 yrs.

I need a laptop that is fast, and i can do all my college stuff on it, and on my downtime be able to play my fav online game maplestory and have it not be glitchy and slow.

i like qvc and hsn because i can make payments and they have a 30 day return policy

Answer
Neither, both are extremely over price for what they have in them. Take a look at the HP below, it is twice the laptop and the same price.

This HP can be customized to what you need. If you want better performance upgrade the APU to a A10, dedicated graphics and increase the ram to 8GB.

Brand buying advice

You get what you pay for. Systems with high end parts with low prices are to be viewed with suspicion. They have to cut corners somewhere to get the price down. What cost you less today is going to cost you more tomorrow.

Apple makes a good quality laptop. The problem comes when it requires service or minor upgrades. It is near impossible to do anything with them. They even glue the battery and hard drive down so you can not change it. They solder the ram to the logic board so you can not increase it. They lock up most of the software so your stuck with what they approve.

Lenovo has serious stand behind their product problems. They bought IBM PC division and proceeded to drive the quality of the system into the ground. Their customer service is well below par. They even makes Dell customer service look good. Lenovo will not allow people to read instruction on how to access the BIOS menu or to get info on their puters on their web site unless you connect to them thru Facebook. They do this so they can spy on their users. The last and final thing to remember about them is they are a Chinese Government own company. It is up to you if you want to trust them.

Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony should be avoided because of their heavy modification of Windows and the drivers. If you remove some of the bloat they install, you can cripple the system.

Acer, Gateway, and eMachines should be avoided period. Low end system that are driving the race to the bottom.

Dell once made a good system and fell from grace. They are now struggling to regain their place in the market. Customer service is one of many problems with this company.

Alienware are glorified Dells and are more name then product. Priced extremely high for what you get. They do perform but you can get the same for less by looking around, just not packaged to be eye candy to the gamers.

Samsung has a history of using cheap parts in critical areas. Capacitors has been one area Samsung has a known history of going cheap, causing units to fail early. For that reason I would avoid them.

ASUS and HP do not modify Windows as bad as the other manufacturers. They have excellent build quality. They might add a lot of bloat but they also makes it easy to get rid of it.

Ultrabooks are the higher end of Wintel laptops but they have some of the same concerns as Apple. They make it next to impossible to change any hardware in them. Service of them will have to be done by the manufacturers. With most of them, you can not change your own battery or hard drive. They are designed to catch your eye but they are not any more special then other laptops except for the fact that they are slim or thin. Your paying for it being thin and slim. For the money your going to spend on it you can buy a much better laptop with more power.

Hybrids are the worse of the worse. The flip or detachable touch screens are just a disaster waiting to happen.

Never buy an All In One. They are far worst then laptops of any kind to service and they have a higher failure rate.

Choose wisely.

:)
