Gaming laptop for $500?

phgHunter

What would be the best choice for $500? I know, you can't really get a laptop for $500 that will run a game very well. My little cousin is dead set on it though and I hate to see him waste his money. I almost want to give him a hundred more bucks to put towards a better laptop. So, anything much better for $600? And what would be the best choice for $500? Thanks.

Answer
Hi, i have no idea about laptop for games under $500. But if the price is $600, i know a good gaming laptop.
It is Dell Alienware M11x : * Overclockable Intel® Core Duo SU7300 1.3GHz (3MB Cache), 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 335M, 160GB SATAII 5400RPM HDD, 2GB Dual Channel DDR3 RAM
Its price is $599.

Gaming Performance of the GT 335M is fast enough for all games in 2010. Demanding games like Metro 2033, Battlefield BC2 or Crysis run only in low-medium details fluently. Less demanding games like Call of Duty MW2 or Sims 3 can be played in high detail settings

Opinions on what budget gaming laptop to get?

Alex

I have a $500-$575 gaming laptop budget. I realize that I wont be getting much out of any laptop with that low of a budget, but Ive found 2 so far that seem to be decent.

Answer
A6-4400M is passmark score 2010 - a weak CPU
HD 7520G is G3D 514
i5-3210M is passmark 3965 - almost twice as strong
The HD 4000 averages about 522

Confirmed in gaming, they are similar in graphics power with a slight edge to the Intel, but with twice the strength CPU (which is why gaming reports well as a boost), there is no question that the Z580 is better at gaming. The reason is in the graphics settings. On most modern games, you only get low settings. In low settings, the HD 4000 is running better. In a few games where you can get higher settings that are not CPU interactive like Starcraft 2, the Toshiba may perform a little better.

Second may be better cooling though.
Each of these puts the money into graphics that you need for games.
You will get gaming out of these if you check the charts. Both will be slower in general tasks than the Lenovo, but both will outperform the Toshiba in every task including gaming.

As long as not an HP or Dell, you can generally live with it. Acer uses some inferior parts that don't seem to fail as often.
Adding: The 7670M and GT 630M are not rotten. Though below the 1000 mark needed for Guild Wars 2, they will play almost every PC game, just need to adjust settings to less graphics detail, and frames per second won't be blazing but will be playable at least. The Acers are $520 and $530. Impressive for the specifications at the price and was after checking many sources for best of breed gaming at under $600.
