I have these games loaded onto my laptop and my game has been lagging horribly and I know that's do to lack of space on my computer, sometimes the game acts as if it wants to crash! Its highly annoying, and I was wondering if there was anything I could buy or do for my laptop to make it run faster or smoother OR just buy a desktop??? Your replies are greatly appreciated!

Well, game lagging has many causes, it could be your laptop is too weak, or space issues; posting your specs is vital when asking questions like this (particularly ram, cpu and gpu).

There are very few programs that will speed up your computer; I would really only recommend ccleaner, and avg/malwarebytes to check for viruses (Norton can be a big cause for slowdowns, its a resource hog) while the rest are usually viruses.

If you really want your computer to run at its ABSOLUTE BEST, reinstall windows (google it). If the performance is still horrible, then you should buy a desktop computer. If you are willing to learn how to build a desktop, which is really easy, a $400 dollar build would be more than enough for Sims 2. If not, you can look for one that is within your budget, but keep in mind prebuilt systems will be more expensive.

What are some nice gaming laptops with other good qualities (2012)?

Q. I really want an excellent gaming laptop but I dont want a computer that only has nice graphics and runs games well. I would like something with a lot of memory that will last me a good time battery wise AND years. Something that run fast for a good portion of it's life and I'm not looking for a mac. If you are going to get technical, please explain what the things like DDR3 memory and stuff like that mean because I am not too advanced in that department. Please include prices and if possible, a link to buy it at. Thank you!

The hp hdx isn't bad i own one and its awesome!! no problems owned for 2 years now.
you shouldn't worry about the hard drive memory because i have a 320 gb model and its more than enough (and i do alot on my computer), you can buy an external hard drive if you somehow fill up the 320 gb (i have one and i use it for back up)
I play Gta 4 on it all the time and it runs great.
It has a nice 16in screen which is just the perfect size for games and movies and if you get one with blu-ray its a perfect dvd/movie player
its just a nice laptop all around and just like you need it can play games but it works for other things like homework and such.
its $545 on amazon, its used though, but seems like a good deal

What's the best labtop there is for gaming? So far I've looked at alienware, avio and hp labtops and they have some nice designs. My price range is probably a max of $1,500 for the labtop maybe a little bit more.

What I'm looking for in the labtop:
Long Battery Life 5-7hrs
Easy to type keyboard/no sticky keys
2-3years of use on the labtop
Mic/Camera on the camera for skype/oovoo
Design can be whatever won't matter too much
Decent amount of storage/RAM/processor
Weight doesnt matter
Labtop should not be prone to fingerprints and glares

One of my top priorities in my search for a new laptop is the quality of customer service. I'd appreciate specific examples rather than general statements, if possible. Thanks.

I have also read many reviews that the Genius Bar at the Apple Stores is the most knowledgeable of tech support offered in a retail store setting. However, their Tech Support is not cheap, unless you buy a 3-years Service Agreement from Apple.

If Tech Support is your top concern, you may want to look into a Mac. Apple is the biggest personal computer and have the volume to get the best suppliers. Well. Maybe not the suppliers who are best to their own employees.

If you want to stay with Windows, I'd recommend Lenovo because their Thinkpads are still better made than most. Sony as a corporation has lost a lot of business in TV, music players and game consoles and hasn't really put out anything special in computers.

I currently have a Dell and because of my terrible experiences with their customer support, i will not be purchasing my next laptop from them. One of my top priorities in my search for a new laptop is the quality of customer service. I'd appreciate specific examples rather than general statements, if possible. Thanks.

I have also read many reviews that the Genius Bar at the Apple Stores is the most knowledgeable of tech support offered in a retail store setting. However, their Tech Support is not cheap, unless you buy a 3-years Service Agreement from Apple.

If Tech Support is your top concern, you may want to look into a Mac. Apple is the biggest personal computer and have the volume to get the best suppliers. Well. Maybe not the suppliers who are best to their own employees.

If you want to stay with Windows, I'd recommend Lenovo because their Thinkpads are still better made than most. Sony as a corporation has lost a lot of business in TV, music players and game consoles and hasn't really put out anything special in computers.

The CPU needs to be fast, 3rd Generation i7 Recommended.
Windows 7 Recommended. NOT Windows 8. If you have to get Windows 8, then get it.

The CPU is the most important thing, I want a FAST Laptop, but cheaper than anyone else sells there laptop for.

Things I will use it for.

Converting Video files to other formats. Making the video files smaller, ASAP.

Making DVDs, like converting an avi video file to ISO using Convert X to DVD. ASAP.

I don't want to sit and have to wait, I want the video file converted, I want the DVD making software to convert my video file FAST and have it ready for burning ASAP.

I want to be able to start a program, and have it loaded ASAP.

When I start Autodesk 3DS Max 2012 x64, I want it loaded ASAP.

We need a new desktop. I want something up to date and reliable which is good for checking email, paying bills, downloading videos and is inexpensive. We don't need it for video games or anything really fast like that. Where is the best place to buy a cheap computer?

First question is how cheap?
There are used PCs as both laptops and desktops on Craigslist and Goodwill stores for under $100.
They are not up to date and not necessarily reliable, but they function, and that is cheap.

The second is about your monitor-display, or are you using a TV that hopefully is higher resolution than x768. 720p TVs cause display issues in WIndows 8. Most computers today do not include the monitor, but do include a keyboard and mouse, and may or may not include USB speakers.

Third question is whether you go ethernet connected by cable, or do you need wireless. Some computers include wireless. Others need an added PCI card or USB stick.

Fourth question is form factor. There are towers called desktops in various sizes and go down to slimline and bookshelf and mini's. Often, you get better performance out of a low priced laptop, especially if including a display, and the laptops usually have HDMI outputs and can accept inexpensive mice, keyboards, improved speakers, and have portability.

With form factor goes the ease of upgrade or repair. In general, the larger and less integrated the system, the easier it is to repair or upgrade it.

Although you do not need high performance, we usually want the best value for the money, and a bit faster response times can't hurt. More ram is better. Larger HDD is better. CPU scores can be looked up:

Places to buy are many in the US.
There are weekly sales of a couple of models and clearances.
Walmart, Staples, Best Buy, Newegg.com, Tigerdirect.com, Amazon.com gets you a variety and you can google a model once you find one to see if it is offered for less somewhere else.

My sister wanted what you describe. Just match what it has already in speed.
It is an early 2012 CPU below an Intel i3 but still fast enough with graphics power you don't really need but is above Intel integrated HD 4000 but not gaming level. It is the new Windows 8 to get used to, but is a faster boot and shutdown. Does what you want and the price is considered cheap and size is small, but upgrading is minimal.
In Intel, whether Newegg or Walmart at about the same price, size and brand, gets an Intel G640 Pentium with 4GB RAM and 1TB HDD. The CPU and graphics are a little lower in performance but the HDD is bigger:

I wish to buy a laptop and want to know if it's compatible, and if that processor is better than pentium. I'm not tech savy.
I also want to know if a game requires 2.4 ghz to run does a 2.2 ghz computer with turbo boost also allow for function? and is turbo boost automatically enabled? I appreciate all and any help.

Rob, if you want to do any gaming, you must avoid the lowest end hardware.

the i3 is very low end, its basically the dai that failed every single test before it was put into a chip and branded i3.

Core i5 + ATi 7XXX series GPU

The GPU is the most important part of graphics design and gaming, the cpu only makes a 5-10% performance difference.

Once again, the GPU is 90% of the gaming and graphics design of any computer.

Im glad you didnt just buy it, but instead took the critical first step in your research to find the perfect laptop for all of your needs.

Research and research until you really understand what it is that you need, only then will you be very satisfied and know that you will have the computer you need, that will last you many many years of its productive life.

Preferably not a dell. I have had my dell for 3 years and it overheats and shuts down all the time and you can't play any games on it :(

Hmm, A Mac is tempting, but to my knowledge you can't really play to many games on Mac, unless you Boot camp through Windows, but even then, you'd have to go with the 6770m graphics card, which can be pricey to get in a Macbook Pro. Plus, games would probably play on medium settings at best. Asus is pretty good, they may cost a bit more, but they are good laptops. As are Sager laptops. If your on a budget, I'd look into HP.
