IdeaPad Y480 Laptop - 20938RU at Lenovo.com as a 14" has i7-3630QM and GT 650M 2GB and 8GB system ram for $750 plus tax. The Y580 with the GTX 660M is better but is $850 and up.

Arma 2 is only shown Ultra, but should be similar in performance to Dirt 3 or Skyrim.
GT 650M is sufficient for high settings. GT 640M and HD 7730M are borderline high settings. Anything lower would be totally unacceptable.
warZ is not clearly defined, but should play very well on all three.
Shogun 2: Total war shows recommended GeForce GTS 240 HD 6570. G3D about 850 or higher to achieve very high settings.
GT 650M is a 1242. GT 640M should be about 1000 and are acceptable.

Also note, should have at least the CPU of a good i5.

So, look for GT 650M, GT 640M, HD 7730M plus Intel Core i5M or better to achieve what you want.

Best gaming laptop for under $800?

I need a gaming laptop that's as good as i can get for up to $800, no higher. It can not be a dell, gateway, or hp. The screen has to be 15 inches or more. A webcam is preferred but not required.

Can anyone give me some suggestions?
Ps - No, i cant build one myself.
I know 800 isn't alot to work with but its not my money and i'm not the one buying it so i cant complain.

The best gaming laptops are alot more than 800 but come with great hardware,there may be ok laptops for 999 or so,but you have to understand hardware is expensive a gtx 580 gpu goes for 1000 bucks alone on ebay even good amd 69 series arent cheap.If you want to see alot of eye candy 800 wont do it..A good ssd around 300 to 500.You say no dell or gateway,the asus g51 is a great laptop you may find reman or on sale in your range.My laptop has a 2960 cpu and dual gtx 580s its far from overkill as games get more demanding.I play battlefield3 mostly max.But next year mine could be middle of the road.I would ck outlets and sales.Good luck,a true gaming laptop with at least a gtx 560m to 580gtx with core i7 good ram etc is more than 800.Cheapest good gamer Ive seen was about 1200 on sale an asus.Maybe soon prices will drop as newer tech arrives.

I have found a really nice laptop from Lenovo that has great feature for the price. It's called the Lenovo y580 and costs about $840.

I understand that you want a gaming laptop that's under $800, but under that price tag won't get you much. If you want to buy a good quality gaming laptop, I'd recommend that you should spend at least $1200. Gaming laptops are expensive because it's hard to put good graphic cards into computers. Most laptops run the graphics from the motherboard, but a separate graphic card can be rather pricey. The best brands for gaming are Alienware (Made by Dell) And Voodoo (Made by HP). with these brands, just DESKTOPS start at around $1200! For $800, you'll be able to get a good Toshiba, Dell or HP, but for sure not a gaming computer. If you want to save money and get a real gaming laptop, then build one yourself. IT takes a bit of effort and may take a bit longer, but you will still be able to save some money, and you can buy the parts separate so you'll get exactly what you want.
Overall, I'd recommend to either spend about $1200 and buy a gaming computer or about $1000 and build your own gaming computer. $800 will get you a nice laptop that can run your games, but the graphics won't be as good. So you decide, and I hope that I helped.

So I will be attending college this fall and need to get a laptop that is under $800. I want to get a PC preferably running on Windows 7 home premium. I am going to school for graphic design and computer animation so a dedicated graphic card is a must in order to run the programs ill be working in. I would also like to be able to play games on my laptop with ease.

the diference is mostly price.

With todays technology, I think a quadcore AMD/Intel CPU is far more then ample for everything that a CPU was designed to handle.

Right now its all about the GPU, the faster the GPU the better, as CPU's are already at that stage where taking them further isnt really worth it, they are already taking silicon to the breaking point.

AMD will now focus on something called APU's, something totally new where a CPU is both a CPU and a GPU, AMD also owns ATi, for 3 years now considered the best GPU manufacturer hands down.

If you are looking into only gaming and only gaming, Nvidia excels in that particular ring, but not by much and their chips both have a very long history of running extremely hot and failed like fly's, but they are gaming GPU's definitely nothing to forget about if that's your thing.

I would recommend the latest HP Envy 14, top notch everything, excellent quality and performance for its size and class.

The most important thing on a PC (esp. A laptop) is its graphics card. If you go on notebookcheck.com you can see how well different graphics cards handled certain popular games.

Once you know what graphics you need, I'd start going to online retailers and start pricing every laptop costing no more than $800 that has a graphics that powerful. I'd keep it excel or some spreadsheet because you can sort in any number of ways. When you've found all the available laptops you'll have a better idea of what you can get and where.
