Will a PC/Mac game work well a Windows 8 Laptop?

Lindsay

I'm wanting to get the Sims 3 and Sims 3 University Life expansion life and I don't want to order it and it get here and it not work and have to send it back. Will they still work with a laptop or do I need a desktop for the PC/Mac games? Here are the links to the game in case you need any information on the website I'm getting it from:

http://www.amazon.com/The-Sims-3-PC/dp/B00166N6SA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1390002438&sr=8-1&keywords=sims+3

And yes, I know I'm not very educated in the technology area. I'm sorry if I sound very dumb asking this. Thank you in advance for helping me. Also, will I need a wireless mouse?
My computer is a Toshiba. I got it 2012 for Christmas and it has Windows 8.

Answer
A "PC" game means a Windows game. You will find that a PC game works well on a Windows system and a Mac game works well on a Mac system. Each game's website shows the requirements for using it. Compare that with the specs of your computer / OS version and VOILA!!!!

As far as notebook compared with tower, it varies a lot, and there is a lot of over-lap, but usually a tower has more powerful graphics. That's the main hardware spec needed for most games (but you can't ignore processor, RAM, etc.).

The Sims isn't a real tax on the system of a computer (low requirements), so typically, any computer that runs Windows 8 well can also run Sims well. This includes Apple notebooks, since Windows 8 cannot be installed on any 2008 or older Mac. You haven't yet told what computer you own, so that's about all we can say.

No chat allowed on Yahoo Answers, so you would need to submit a new question if you have some additional questions. From the Amazon page....

Can I play a year 2000 game on a laptop with Windows 8?

Cheryl

I want this laptop:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/inspiron-15-6-laptop-4gb-memory-500gb-hard-drive/2132033.p?id=1219068848078&skuId=2132033&st=categoryid$pcmcat247400050000&cp=1&lp=5

And I want to play this game on it:
http://www.amazon.com/Pharaoh-Official-Expansion-Cleopatra-PC/dp/B00004TFLJ

Now, the laptop has Windows 8. The game is from 1999-2000, it is compatible with Windows 98. Could I play this game on this laptop?

Answer
No, but it would probably run on Linux using the Wine compatibility program. Or, PlayOnLinux, or Crossover. Many Linux distros will work on that Inspiron, and they won't drive you crazy like Windows 8.
