They're big minecraft players and use something called steam on my laptop.. I'm a non gamer NEED HELP PLEASE!!

Answer
That's a bit of a tough call, as $500 is the entry price for a gaming PC build, but does not include OS or monitor, so you still need to spend $200 more per system at least for OS and monitor. If that's ok, Google "best $500 gaming build". Recommended links are:

You will need to know how to build a PC, or find someone who will do it for you. If you sacrifice a little you could probably get the price w/monitor and OS down to around $650. The problem with a prebuilt system from Dell or HP in the same price range will typically have integrated graphics rather than discrete, which will really hurt gaming performance.

Why does my whole computer seem to freeze up when I open Facebook?

I use dial up internet still I realize it is slow but it is beyond slow...

This is a letter I wrote to the techs at Netzero.com my ISP, their reply did not help at all. I have reset IE8, used Microsoft Fixit, and HP fixit to make sure all my drivers are up to date. I also use Windows update.

Product : NetZero Internet (dialup)>Category : Browsing the Internet>OS : Windows XP>Browser : Internet Explorer 8>Email Program : Other Email Program>Firewall : Windows Firewall>Error Message : internet explorer can not open the page---etc.

>Description : I have had a constant problem with my internet connection for the last couple years now...It is constantly in and out. Once when I first started using dial-up, I got technical support over the telephone and it instantly fixed my problem but I can't remember now what the technician had me do. I do not even think I was with netzero at the time maybe msn, but he had me change some settings in cmd. and uncheck or check client for microsoft network...or somethings like that. Anyways it worked but now no one offers help like that anymore without a credit card number anyway.>I have a 2006 HP Pavillion dv8000. I do not store hardly anything local such as dvds, music files games, or many pictures at all. Local disk C says Free Space: 17.6 GB Total space: 37.6GB. and allow indexing is checked, Compress drive to save disk space is not. System Information is: Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3. The Computer under system information is: AMD Turion (tm)64 Mobile TECHNOLOGY ML-32 1.79 Ghz, 512MB of RAM, Physical address extension.>I just had the OS replaced or redone in July of 2012 and $20.00 -1 MB extra of memory installed. My computer tech at that time told me I needed even more memory to really be able to game and stuff... My Virtual memory is set at: Initial size 12043MB Maximum 13330MB...just a setting I thought of myself and added. Space available is 21952MB local drive C. Total page file size for all drives is 2 MB. Recommended 765MB. Currently 12043MB.>I have no idea what all this means but it or something is not working. So I use IE 8.0.6001.18702 Cipher Strength 128 bit. Product ID 13898-997-00-65953-32102...Almost every webpage I try to open says install adobe flash so I did and did it again and again, finally I had to unistall all adobe flashes and reinstall it fresh. I now have adobe flash active X version 11.6.602.180 Plug-in version not installed, the lastest Java, CCcleaner, malwarebyte's. It almost seems like my browser does not recognize that I am on a horrible connection and goes ahead and starts offering updates to flash and java and detecting errors that are really due to my faulty internet connection...>My netzero status shows connected, duration 04:56:30+ Speed 45.2>Activity> >Sent: 8,448,226+bytes Received: 77,066,708+ bytes>Compression: 19%+ compression 3%>errors: 0 errors: 1,885+> >The modem is AC97Soft Data Fax Modem w/smart CP- phone number is 2222.>maximum speed is set at 56000bps ---modem compression, modem error control and hardware flow control is checked (enabled). My server type is PPP. Transports are TCP/IP. Authentification is PAP. Compression is (none). PPP multi-link framing is ON. Server IP address is: 216.10.161.226 Client IP 216.10.162.95.>I sure hope you can help me please.>So like I said this is the problem seems like it has gotten worse since I installed the newest adobe just today.

Answer
Okay, so this answer will solve your problem and it's really the only viable solution out there. But I will explain why you need it.

It is not your Internet that is causing problems, it's your computer. Recently, Facebook updated their source code and it causes a lot computers to lag and quite frequently, it uses up a lot of RAM. Their website is highly resource intensive (at least for a website, games still take more gusto). So there are two options you have, one I recommend, one I don't.

First option, is to add more RAM to your computer. This I do not recommend, as your computer is fairly old (pre-Vista), and it's almost pointless to add addition RAM to an older computer. If you do not how to do this, ask your local technical adviser.

The second option is to get a new computer entirely. Any computer or laptop you buy now will be MUCH faster than your current computer. This is because hardware has matured greatly over the past couple years and it greatly surpasses anything back in 2006. A high end computer in 2006 would barely compare to a low end laptop. This best option.

I hope I helped and if you need anything at all, feel free to contact me at sgriffa282@gmail.com
