Why do my games STILL lag even with my laptop being brand new with great RAM and hard drive space?

Sem1990

I'm trying to run WoW at maximum graphics with 0 lag, as in 50+ FPS, however when I'm in combat situations or in populated cities it drops to around 20-30. I don't understand this considering how great the machine is, am I doing something wrong? Is there something I can do to fix it?

Don't just say to lower the graphic settings in game... It's a 5 year old game on a brand new fast laptop, it should run perfectly with 50+ FPS minimum. Here is my system information.

Vista Home Premium
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU, P7350 @ 2.00GHz 2.00 GHz
4 GB of Ram
64-bit OS

Video Card - NVIDIA GeForce GTX260M with 2815 MB of total graphics memory

Shouldn't this laptop be running games flawlessly? What am I doing wrong?
Forgot to add- I have 204 GB of free space on a 286 GB Hard Drive.

Answer
Well...

#1 More hard drive space is only half the hard drive battle, the speed of the drive is arguably more important.

#2 Your CPU is rather low end, ESPECIALLY for a gaming rig.

#3 Your GPU totally doesn't match your CPU, and to have only one of them be pretty good and not other other will bring down your total performance.

#4 Battle situations will ALWAY lower your FPS because it takes more out of your system because more is happening on the screen than just running, all systems see FPS drops in action environments.

#5 Doesn't matter how old a game is, matters how well the graphics are rendered.

#6 Your RAM is only 4GB, and probably only DDR2 800MHz/DDR3 1066MHz...most gaming rigs have 6GB of DDR3 1333MHz

20-30 FPS still isn't anything to complain about...if you really want it doing more then you will have to disable/close more background programs, take out services and programs you don't need from booting with your computer, tweak your OS, and run the game at slightly lower settings.

whats the better hard drive for a gaming laptop?

im playing on geting a laptop from alien ware and idk what kinda harddrive to get just a single hard drive or a raid 0 or raid 1...i dont know much about raid so plz help and thx

Answer
Raid 1 is for security, don't bother with that. Raid 0 increases speed but you need two identical hard drives. Gaming performance is uneffected by the hard drive, only the initial load up times and save times will be faster. Also, I don't believe you can use raid arrays on laptops. If you can, it's the type of laptop that might as well be a desktop, that gets 10 minutes of battery power.
