Cheapest Laptop with backlit keyboard?

DA BOMB

I Hopefully want to spend less than $500 but I definitely need backlit keyboard. I would probably have a standard/base model. I am upgrading from a 10 year old Dell laptop, so I don't need those new features.

Answer
I have good news and bad news.

First the bad. Back-lit keyboards (decent ones that don't crap out after a few months) are generally only built into gaming grade laptops. This means it's wildly unlikely you'll find one under 500 dollars that is of decent quality or is even real (Think credit card scam).

But now the good news. So because of this you need to find a gaming grade laptop. Lucky for you it's well known among PC Hardware enthusiasts and PC gamers (I consider myself both) that the Alienware M11x has by far one of the best price to performance ratio and yes has a back-lit keyboard (of excellent build quality). The base model will cost you at least 800 dollars but Dell has really shaped up in the past few years (Also you should be aware Alienware customers are treated like royalty compared to the normal Dell customer) and they offer pretty decent payment plans. The totally base model is a VERY nice laptop that will cost you $800 or $24 a month.

What you should be aware of:

1. The speed of your new laptop might shock you considering your using a 10 year old Dell at this point but you will love it. I guarantee it.

2. Right now there is a 200 dollar instant rebate/discount on all M11x models but IT EXPIRES ON JANUARY 16th. I just want to make sure your aware of this because after that the base price goes back to $1000.

3. Don't worry about the color of the back lighting. It can be changed to many different colors.

4. As your friendly yahoo answers computer geek it is my duty to inform you that the $800 base model is great BUT you should note that the $950 model gives you double the hard drive capacity (you can put twice as much stuff on your computer) and the speed of the hard drive is significantly better. Not to mention the processor is newer/faster. What all of this comes down to: $950 model will be more useful for longer. Also if you decide to use the payment plan it's only a $5 increase per month.

5. Don't let the site intimidate you with all the benchmarks, performance tests, etc. With Alienware (and computers in general) you will get what you pay for.

6. This laptops small, fast, light, and has great battery life.

7. If you do buy this laptop I will be jealous :)

If you do buy one of these laptops:

Dell try's to confuse you with stuff you don't need/want. It's great for gamers but for your purpose the following options are the only ones you need when customizing your system.

1. You will be greeted with a screen that basically asks if you want your computer to be black or silver. Choose.

2. Next, disregard all the other options in the performance section. Anything you change here will tack on about another 200 dollars. Look above and go to the personalization tab. Look through each section here. You'll probably want to deselect the preinstalled games. The name plate is a nice permanent place to provide contact information. You can also change the default keyboard color but it can also be changed once you get it so don't worry about it. The OS customization isn't important just leave it as it is or select some wall papers you like. You can skip the gear store.

3. If you don't want to spend more money than skip directly to the checkout tab. Everything else will just cost you more money.

Finished!

I hope this helps. I'm sorry there really aren't a lot of good options for back-lit keyboards on laptops but this really is a great price/value. I have no doubt you'll love this.

Which gaming laptops under $1000 have backlit keyboards?

Black Keyb

I was looking for a good gaming laptop under 1k but most seem to not feature backlit keyboards. This is one feature I really really need. Does anyone know of any such gaming laptops? Only the even more expensive ones seem to have it. Thanks.
I've tried building it on Cyberpower pc, I can't get that feature under 1k. Same for Ibuypower but it is even less value than Cyberpower pc. Maybe some other gaming laptop brands??

Answer
I would go to custom builders, there are some good ones out there.

I used cyberpowerpc, but there are a lot of better ones. Make sure to read lots of reviews!

A lot of people say that they are not worth it, but it really depends on the case. I game a lot, but I also travel very frequently so having a lappy made sense. It was a great investment for ME as I could not take my beautiful (PINK! :D) gaming rig with me.

<3 good luck.
