evaohell

I just bought a used Sony Vaio vpcf21afx with Bluray and 3d LCD...but it didn't come with the glasses...there are 2 types, passive and active...which do I use?

Answer
Another recent addition to the 3D gaming market comes in the form of the Sony VAIO F series (model VPCF21AFX/BI) 16-inch laptop. This notebook weighs in at a little over seven pounds and features a full HD display. It makes a great multimedia laptop with the included Blu-ray drive. Unfortunately, the price is nearly $2,000, so if you're not looking to game or watch movies in 3D you might want to consider a different 2D laptop to save money.
Pros

3D Capable
Full HD Display
Blu-ray Drive

Cons

Expensive
Heavy

Review â Sony VAIO F Series 3D 16-Inch Laptop (Model VPCF21AFX/BI)

The Sony VAIO VPCF21AFX/BI is a part of the F Series line, which is typically geared for multimedia enthusiasts. But the Sony VAIO VPCF21AFX/BI is a special model considering it can display 3D content. This is a great feature for those looking to game in 3D or watch movies on the system.

The Sony VAIO F Series notebook (model VPCF21AFX/BI) features an Intel Core i7-2720QM quad-core processor with a 2.2GHz base speed and Turbo Boost functionality up to 3.3GHz. For a notebook costing around $2,000 this is a nice processor that offers fast performance.

Along with the Sandy Bridge CPU, the VAIO is equipped with 6GB of DDR3 1333MHz memory. It's worth noting that this model is a Ready-to-Ship system so what you see is what you get. The notebook does, however, support up to 8GB of memory. If you want to swap out the 2GB module for a 4GB one, it's possible.

The standout feature on the Sony VAIO VPCF21AFX/BI is the display. This 16-inch screen features a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 for a clear HD viewing experience. This is definitely a positive attribute as the laptop is equipped with a Blu-ray drive. And since it is 3D capable, the Sony VAIO F Series laptop takes multimedia to a whole new level. One nice feature is the ability to toggle between 2D and 3D modes via a simple switch. Unfortunately, you will need to wear 3D glasses to play games or watch movies in 3D, but the system comes with a pair.

In terms of graphics, the Sony VAIO VPCF21AFX/BI runs an NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M video card with 1GB GDDR3 video memory. This card performs well in a variety of games from Rift to Dragon Age II, but you'll want to consider disabling anti-aliasing to produce better frame rates. And yes, the GT 540M can be found in other systems that are cheaper, but remember, you are paying for 3D capability and the Blu-ray drive.

Storage space is also a bit underwhelming for the price. Equipped with a 640GB 7200RPM hard drive, it would be nice if Sony offered a hybrid SSD drive at least for the price, since 640GB isn't all that spacious anymore.

In conclusion, the Sony VAIO VPCF21AFX/BI is a great notebook for gamers looking to play in 3D and movie buffs seeking a multidimensional experience on a computer. If you rely on your laptop for watching content, the full HD display and standard Blu-ray drive are nice features to have. However, the notebook only supports up to 8GB of memory, which is a hindrance. The VAIO VPCF21AFX/BI is best suited for 3D enthusiasts.
