is this a good gaming laptop?

manas

well i am planning to buy this MSI GX660 gaming laptop with following specifications that are available in india. but as i am new to gaming i don't know for sure that if this is the right choice. also, there are some confusions that are there in the configuration of the system that i wanna get sorted b4 buying it. here are the specifications: PROCESSOR: intel core i5 460M, GRAPHIC CARD: ATI Radeon HD5870 with 1GB DDR5, CHIPSET: Intel PM55, RAM: 4GB DDR3(2GB*2), HARD DISK: 500GB sata@ 5400rpm, LCD: 15.6" HD Glare(1366*768)LED. There are 3 main confusions that i am dealing with right now. FIRST, is there any difference between GDDR5 and DDR5,coz on the website they show as this model has GDDR5 graphic memory but my dealer's configuration states it as DDR5 graphic memory. SECONDLY, the hard disk is running at 5400rpm & as i want to buy this laptop for gaming , does it will effect the gaming performance on a large scale or not, as compared to 7200rpm. LASTLY, after checking out all the specifications of the system that i have provided earlier. what do you think of this laptop as a whole, especially in gaming performance. will it be able to run newest games (between 2009-2011) at high setting without any hitch?

Answer
i've had my eye on that laptop for a while. YES it is a good gaming laptop and budget friendly. If its really for gaming, i suggest you use the tag "MSI GX660" in you tube, you will find i lot of videos where users try different games on that laptop suchas CODMW2, Black Ops, Crysis. the ATI 5870 is a great video card. I dont think the hdd speed will affect your gaming. as for the ddr5 and gddr5 this might explain, http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=608938, its basically the same when used on a graphics card.

How much could it cost to upgrade my video card on my laptop?

QUEEN

I bought a laptop in September of 2011. I love Skyrim and would like to play it, but apparently the only thing that needs upgrading in order to play is the video card. According to the Elder Scrolls site, these are the minimum requirements to play:

OS: Windows 7/Vista/XP PC (32 or 64 bit)
Processor: Dual Core 2.0GHz or equivalent processor
Memory: 2GB System RAM
Hard Disk Space: 6GB free HDD Space
Video Card: Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 512 MB of RAM
Sound: DirectX compatible sound card

I have:

OS: Windows 7
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2310M CPU @ 2.10GHz
Memory: 7.0 GB free
Hard Disk Space: 356.1 GB free
Video Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family (THIS DOESN'T MEET REQUIREMENTS)
Sound: IDT High Definition Audio CODEC

The only thing that does not meet requirements is the video card. I was wondering if I should upgrade my video card, and how much it would cost. I have a decent laptop with a good amount of memory.

Recommendations? Suggestions?

Thanks.
2GB is required, and I have 7GB @ whoever mentioned it.

Answer
Sorry to tell you, but you can not upgrade the video in a laptop, unless it was made for gaming. If you want a computer for gaming, that can be updated you need to invest in a desktop pc
