Gaming Laptop Questions?

p.kelcie

So i have this computer but i keep getting the blue screen and its like a 1999 so i'm getting one for Christmas. I like to play world of warcraft so i was wondering if you need a specific laptop for gaming or does like all laptops work for gaming? And also like really good company's... like dell or something for gaming?

Answer
Laptops are generally not good for gaming, but still can be used for it. If you are set on getting a laptop, then there are generally two main things you want to consider in how much performance it will give you; the processor speed/#of cores, and the graphics card it has. In order to game, you'll likely need at minimum a processor capable of reaching 2.5 Ghz or close to that. Many intel processors made for laptops these days "overclock" themselves while gaming so that you can get better performance, usually in the 2.7 Ghz range. Now for graphics cards. Most laptops today under 700$ have something called integrated graphics. This means that the graphics card is a part of the motherboard; not great for gaming performance. Although you -can- game with some integrated cards, it will not look very pretty and you might get lag. Look for a laptop with a dedicated graphics card such as Nvidia chips or ATI chips. Depending on the card this will almost invariably give you better performance than the integrated chips. I myself recently purchased a samsung computer (I can't recall the model #) that has an intel duel core chip clocked at 2.2 Ghz and overclocks to 2.7 for gaming with an Nvidia mGT420 graphics card. It runs a bit hot whiqle gaming (I got a laptop cooling table to help with this) but has suprisingly good performance. It cost 720$ to give you an idea of what you'll likely have to spend to get something similar.

what is a cheap gaming laptop?
