I am making a laptop for my friend, he wants a gaming laptop, i know i can get a pretty cheap laptop. I would be able to replace the RAM and Hard drive and motherboard and graphics card, etc, right?

Answer
On a laptop, you can relatively easily change the RAM and harddrive.
Changing the motherboard, CPU, GPU is a far more difficult and complicated story.

It can be done, but it's not worth it AT ALL as you will be limited in the parts you can choose from than when working on a desktop (compatibility issues)

My advice is just to find a laptop that already has powerful parts. Unlike desktops, it would be more expensive if you buy a cheap laptop and then try to find good parts to go with.

how do you transfer data from a internal hard drive to an external hard drive?

Hi, i have a gaming laptop, as u might have guessed, i use it mostly for gaming. i just bought an external hard drive so i can store my installed games on it (such as steam). but how do i do this? how do i transfer my installed games from my main hard drive to my external? (or any other installed programs)

thanks for answers :)

Answer
You do not need to re-download games as Bobby suggested.

First I need you to know that this is a horrible idea, if you move your steam games to external drive or any game for that matter it will probably reflect badly on the performance of your games.
That is because your external hard drive is connected to your computer through an USB which is 20x slower then the normal hard drive SATA connection.

Here are the instructions if your still interested:

1.Plug in your external hard drive USB key into the computer.
2.Open steam.
3.Open library
4.Right Click on the game that you want to move to your external drive
5.Select Backup Game Files and follow instructions. Make sure that you change the transfer directory to your hard drive
5.When you are done with all the games uninstall steam from your computer completely and then reinstall it on your external hard drive
6. Later on when you try to install games just link to the directory and steam will handle it
