Could a regular laptop be used as a gaming laptop?

I have and acer with an i5 core and im wondering if that could be used to play pc games like a gaming laptop could.

You can on some lower settings. I have a Toshiba with a 2nd gen i7 and an Intel HD Graphics 3000 and this is what I can play without issues:

Skyrim: Med
GTA IV: Med-High
Dead Space: Maxed out
Dead Space 2: Maxed out
Mass Effect 3: High except for shaders
Left 4 Dead 2: Maxed out
Portal: Maxed out
Half Life 2:Maxed out
Dues Ex Human Revolution: Maxed out
Boarderlands 2: Med
Flight Simulator X: Very High
Need For Speed Shift 2: Maxed out
Need For Speed Most Wanted (2012): Low
Sims 3: Maxed out
Assassin's Creed Revelations: High

What Gaming laptop would you recommend?

Well, I recently got a job, and Im beginning to save up for a gaming laptop. I was thinking an Alienware mx18, but those things are expensive as hell. I was wondering what laptop would you guys recommend, that is capable of playing a game like Guild Wars 2 on high settings, without burning a hole in your pocket.
