Can anyone suggest a laptop that would be perfect for a college freshman?

My current laptop is a Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q885. Its too big.
I love this laptop and its features especially the memory, ram and the capability to play hardcore
games like skyrim or sims 3 or warcraft or mass effect 3.
I don't want to give up the power of my current computer, but lets be realistic, I cant bring an 18inch gaming laptop into class. I want a new laptop that is slimmer and 15 inches or less. Price is no option so long as it is under $1500.

My 15 inch gaming laptop gets very hot on the left side and i want to know (1) what i can do to cool it down using stuff at home and (2) what laptop cooler do you recommend i should buy for a good price.
